From a Dutch site: http://www.tabletguide.nl/5393/samsung-galaxy-tab-krijgt-gingerbread-update/
Basically it says that Samsung employees in Germany have spread out the word that the Tab will get a Gingerbread update.... eventually (that is, they didn't mention when)
Let the FW leaks silently begin
That's not good news to me, I have a tablet, I want Honeycomb!
Lol. A firmware update is always good to me. Hopefully we'll get at least either.

2.4
Gingerbread is basically the same as froyo. The only real improvement is making the text selecting more intuitive. I want the api from honeycomb, for dual pane applications and the new 3d interface.
So that means either honeycomb or 2.4. For me 2.4 is probably better, since I will meanly be using the tab as a phone with a tablet profile.
So Sammy, please give us 2.4 and not just 2.3.
yes, nothing to write home about
if you want 2.3 go get the cm7 beta from the dev section
what i want is a honeycomb port
It is a good thing, because of possibly updated drivers we can use in a Honeycomb port
Don't know if I want a honeycomb port. What I want is a performance improvement and Gingerbread is such an improvement. The JIT compiler is optimized again (like it was the case with froyo) and there is a concurrent garbage collector for better memory management.
If honeycomb is even faster (for a non dual core device) yes than I want honeycomb. And as for the beta build, I rather wait for a beta of the 2.4 Frankenstein build LoL
Furthermore, if Samsung is committing itself to an upgrade, this means the tab won't become obsolete when other new 7" tablets hit the market, like for example the Flyer. It means that they have plans to stay on top of this segment, which is great. Maybe they will also improve the built in Samsung software, like for example the browser and the mail app. So no buzz, but rather the real thing for me
I'd be happy enough to see Gingerbread arrive (the CM7 beta on here is unfortunately a long way from being a stable release). Not so sure about Honeycomb. That's specifically for tablets without hardware buttons. Would seem out of place on the Tab - which let's be honest is a lot closer to a phone than a tablet, despite being awesome at that. I think Samsung will skip Honeycomb and head for the release that combines Honeycomb UI and phone functionality. Whatever happens, it'll be nice if Samsung supports the device with OS updates for at least a year.

I think it's relatively easy to map the galaxy Tabs hardware buttons to the software functionality as soon as the source goes AOSP
Then we can get rid of the software buttons too... boom! perfect!
I hope the new launcher doesn't eat up too much performance
and I fudging want GTalk with video support!
I'm not so sure but can't we port Samsung galaxay s gingerbread to tab
Yay for gingerbread/icecream/icecream sandwich! (or whatever it's called these days) This is comforting news at least, knowing that they are not ditching the smaller device in favor of the shiny new 8.9 and 10 inch models..
Good news, but I want Honeycomb!

I've read that the galaxy tab and galaxy line of phones have similar hardware... makes me think that new versions of android that are released for the phones could potentially work on our tabs.
not sure though, and im not a dev.. but i'd love some fresh official sgt firmware releases before samsung stops supporting the tab

When I was looking for a date when the Galaxy Tab 10.1v would get an update to Android 3.1 i found this link.
http://mobile.downloadatoz.com/tuto...-1-8-9-7-to-update-android-3-1-honeycomb.html
Can it be or not? Can't even find the download though.
Do you guys know when Samsung will release 3.1 officially?
This is most certainly fake. First of all the picture doesn't even have honeycomb on it. Secondly they say that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be the first device to get 3.1 while the others are waiting just to get gingerbread 2.3.4
Two things wrong with that, the xoom already has 3.1 and they are comparing a tablet which will get 3.1 eventually to other "devices" waiting for 2.3.4 which are smartphones which will never get 3.1 because 3.1 is intended for tablets and google tv.
This is one of those crap put together sites with misinformation.
He's absolutely crazy if he think the Galaxy Tab 7 is getting Android 3.1 anytime soon (if ever).

I am not sure, but I am hoping the update is out by June 8th when they release the Samsung 10.1 in US.
I can at least give you somewhat good news. Android 3.1 was released last Friday in the US on the Motorola Xoom. So it is officially out and I am assuming and hoping that it should be released shortly on the Samsung.
Come one what is the benefit of Acer keeping the beast locked down.

Hell yes.
Here is hope that Acer realizes the sooner they provide the community with what it needs to use our devices to their full potential the sooner they will move more units!
As soon as I saw Samsung released the kernal source it really got me down that I bought the Acer 2 weeks ago. Really like this tablet but with the lack of Acer opening things up I think my tablet is craigslist bound.

this is so bad of acer
Too lazy to find the link but someone got a Tech Support response that the 3.0.1 kernel source would be out in the next week or 3. Hopefully 3.1 will follow more quickly.
Edit:
<attribute lazy=off>Here's the link, should be out today/tomorrow
If it doesn't come out today, I'll chase it up again in that same support task.
yesterday I ask acer indonesia about when 3.1 update and about unlock bootloader
and the answer is "this is acer global policy"

if u ask the customer service, i doubt they even understand what u are talking about...
not customer service..i ask direct to product support manager and look like know nothing
They are doing there own loss .

I was just thinking... could it be that Acer is nothing but a marketer? They bought the device from OEM manufacturer somewhere in China, label it with 'Acer' and 'Iconia A500' and sell it.
That's why they know nothing about 'unlock bootloader'. Release kernel? Dream on!
Well, hope I'm wrong
Almost electronics products are made in china on this days, and they are releasing 3.1,so i dont believe that
Even worse, Honeycomb 3.2 is coming out within a few weeks and will be pushing to the xoom and possibly HTC flyer devices.
Looks like we are getting behind here Acer..

I was under the impression 3.2 was just for 7" tablets.

That's what I've heard too. I think the Huawei is the only official announcement for 3.2 at this point, with the flyer being rumored to be waiting on 3.2 for the update. So we're still only 1 real update behind.

No.
One of the things 3.2 brings to the table is better support for 7" tablets (presumably 1024*600 resolution), but it also brings better hardware acceleration and bug fixes applicable to all Honeycomb tablets.

Dave

Any source for that? All I've seen is the Huawei announcement.

I would like to see a relevant and trustworthy source as well. Everything I've read says that 3.2 = 3.1 fixed for 7" screens and Adobe Flash 10.3 built in. I haven't seen where any additional features or fixes were announced.
Technically I don't see why they wouldn't fix whatever bugs are discovered in 3.1, BUT I'm guessing 3.1 is the final major release with 3.2 being a minor one and maybe 3.2.x being supplemental bug fixes until Ice Cream is announced and released.
Tomshardware has it. I cant post links yet due to post count.
Go to tomshardware and you will find it.
According to this webpage the Korean Galaxy Tab got the gingerbread update on November 2, 2011
http://www.samsung.com/sec/consumer/mobile-phone/mobile-phone/wi-fi/SHW-M180WCWOO-support
I was wondering if we have anyone from Korea who can confirm that they actually were able to get the gingerbread update... and i wonder when the rest of the GT-P1010 tabs will get the gingerbread update
Sorry

Sorry to tell you this but I was able to download the supposed tar file for the update but unfortunately I learned from it that the korean model uses the same Samsung SOC as the P1000, while our P1010 uses a lower performance TI OMAP. So I'm guessing that's why they got Gingerbread update and we most likely will never get it the worst part is that without Gingerbread bootloaders development is effectively stuck since all the "cool stuff" is developed for GB based devices
Thats gay... samsung seriously screwed up big time... they are just diggin a big hole of unsatisfied customers... after experiences like this u really start hating a company like that... no tech support, no reliable info, total lack of communication, and list could probably go on...
i am glad my next android tablet was asus eee pad transformer... been using it for 4 months and the support n upgrades have been smooth, quick, and most of all very stable...
Well, let's hope I'm wrong. Under all pronostics Samsung updated its GT-I5510 but I wouldn't get my hopes up for the P1010 seeing all the new tabs they're releasing and being the only one with the OMAP processor. It's a shame that Samsung makes these really great phones, I actually really like them, but the update support, ugh... it's just inexistant. A real pitty
Oh samsung, this is because everyday they do another tab.
GALAXY TAB 2 7"
Contains photo of what seems to be touchwiz UX for ics.

This means (most likeley) that we will get ICS in march!
Yéé!
Heard this thing can do the GSM calls as well.
It reminds me of gingercomb :/

Am I the only one that thinks this is strange? They introduced the "7 Plus" with upgraded h/w (1.2GHz Exynos) and HC and now they're introducing what's basically the original 7" with nothing new but ICS? If the specs are correct the 1GHz chip is probably the now ancient Teg2. The only h/w difference appears to be 1MB of RAM instead of 512K. So what's their strategy? Introduce ICS via newly named devices? Will there be a Tab 10.1 "2" that has ICS? What would that mean to the existing Tab 10.1 "1?" If they tie ICS to launching second versions of their existing devices, even if they intend to upgrade the originals, we'll be waiting an awfully long time. To me, this isn't good news until we know how it affects getting ICS on existing products.
That makes sense, I acknowledge your concern but we could always use the system dump from the new tab ,especially if it has the same hw, although it may need some scaling

I don't understand why you'd put a three megapixel camera on a tablet when most phones have 8.

Most phones are also much thicker than the tablets are. It's a form-factor limitation. When it comes to camera, it is mostly all about the optics. It'll get there as the processors behind these cameras keep getting faster, better, smaller. But until then, you need to rely on the glass and space between them.

tell me how often you use your tab to take picture ?
Sorry, system is temporarily unavailable, please try again later. -_-
oh it's for the 7.0 tab
gee thanks
I think this is gonna be a budget price model to complete with Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet. But i don't think they can offer this at a price tag less than 300$
and now hopefully to see someone upload leak ics rom for the tab

Not so much...
Revealing what it says are the "official" prices across several countries in Europe, blogging site Samsung Hub found that the price in U.S. dollars for the Wi-Fi-only version ranged from $419 to $450, while the cost of the Wi-Fi+3G version varied from $523 to $568.
Here's an article that, like me, questions why it exists at all...
http://gizmodo.com/5884606/samsung-galaxy-tab-2-why-do-you-exist
So, basicaly, you'd get the same "hardware" than the Tab 10.1 but with a 7" screen...
looks interesting but I personally prefer tablets with a bigger screen than 7-inch
Too bad it's a 7 inch. Will samsung release a 10 inch version soon?
i cant wait for ICS on my 10.1. Honeycomb is a joke. I am running a KANG ics build but i cant wait for the real thing
I have been looking at videos of this tab, and scrolling through home screens in portrait packed full of widgets looks flawlessly smooth. I really hope we get that new touchwiz launcher.
Edit: I have the galaxy s2, and I have been running the an ICS leak of the last few weeks, Samsung has updated the touch-wiz launcher a lot for ICS, and it looks a lot like the launcher on this new tab. So if they will update the s2 to this new launcher style, hopefully they will do the same for our tab, as this new touchwiz launcher looks smooth and very nice. If it is as smooth on our tab as it is on this new 7inch, it will make all my tabby dreams come true
To the OP; I think this thread is a good idea, thank you. But just as constructive criticism , you really should have sated more about what you meant this thread to be about in your first post
