[Q] how to root hd2 2.3.4 gingerbread - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

any links or tutorial how to root my HD2 tmobile version 2.3.4

im lost.. if you have gingerbread on your phone then its already rooted. the htc hd2 comes with windows mobile 6.5 stock so you would of needed to root your phone in order to run Android's gingerbread. you might want to take a look at this thread. it might shed some light on a few things.
unless your asking how to root your phone in order to get gingerbread ?? which in that case follow the hyperlink above and then you might want to take a look at some ROMs that have gingerbread. this webpage would be a good start to find a gingerbread build you want. then follow the instructions given by mskip and make sure you follow what ever instructions listed in the ROM you choose a well, enjoy.

If you already have 2.3.4 on your phone, then as htccraze said, its already rooted...

[REQUEST] Bell Desire Z ROM version 1.34.666.5

Edit: "Rom Development" is only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here. Moved thread to "General." Please refer to "[REF] STOP! Read before posting!" ~TheRomMistress
I was wondering if anyone could post the ROM for this version? The other one in this forum isn't the exact same number, so I was just wondering if someone has the .5 version for warranty purposes.
Thanks!
I'm looking at the same version. Unrooted. Anyone got that?
Link to all shipped ROMS
My phone does ship with this rom..and it's unrooted as well.. but I just join the forum today and have no clue how to extract/backup the rom out..if you guy can give me a bit guide though( for example what post to follow) then I can get it out and send it over to you... And does any of you guys know if my phone need to be downgraded if I want to root it? (the guide say firmware version higher than 1.34 need to be downgrade, does my desire Z need to go through that if I want to root it?)

I also have the HTC Desire Z with the same software number 1.34.666.5 and want to root it. I'm not sure if I need to downgrade also before rooting as I do not know enough about putting fastboot on the phone to find out the CID. putting adb isn't so hard. is it possible to just ignore checking the CID and just going the creation of a goldcard to downgrade? If I dont have to downgrade, then it makes things a lot easier.

You dont need to downgrade. 1.34 is froyo, just follow the wiki

I thought 1.34.000 and lower was the requirement. I definitely have froyo on the phone.

According to the Wiki, 1.72 and up require downgrade.
I followed the wiki and successfully rooted my phone to have S off, have Super CID and have simlock off plus have clockwork recovery installed from rom 1.34.666.5 just like ptesmoke
At the end of the guide, it says, "You can delete the files in /data/local/tmp they are not needed anymore. " How do I go about doing this? is it done in ADB? I don't know the commands for it and I don't see this directory on the SDcard. I assume this is in the internal memory of the phone?

Yup you can delete it, I usually use root explorer to do all my stuff dealing with the phones internal mem. It is the phones storage, not your sdcard. If you don't wanna pay for root explorer I think I've heard es file manager handles root directories fine and is free
Glad you got er all rooted welcome to the club

1.34.666.5
I am having a hard time finding the 1.34.666.5 rom. I was running cm9 on my Desire Z, but due to company policy, I had to unroot the phone. I got the 1.34.666.1 rom from shipped-roms, and the phone is back to froyo, but apparently need the 1.34.666.5 rom to be able to upgrade to gingerbread. I have searched everywhere for a download, but can't find anything but the .1 rom... Is there any way to upgrade from 1. to the official gingerbread update from HTC?

[Q] Rooting Evo

I'm about to root my Evo, the first android phone I have ever attempted to root. I have no idea what I am doing, and woud appreciate some advice. I'm planning to use unrevoked. I"m hoping you can analyze the steps I hope to make and help me through it. I'll even tell you what I want in the end
Tell me if I'm doing this correctly:
1. Install Unrevoked 3
2. Install Unrevoked Infinity
3. Find a custom rom somewhere (I just want a vanilla rom)
4. Be done?
Is this correct? Where do i find a rom btw? I can't wait to get away from sense, I want stock android now!
Moved in EVO 4G General.
try cyanogen

Simple:
http://www.thedroiddemos.com/2010/08/27/how-to-root-the-htc-evo-4g-with-froyo-2-2-video-walkthrough/
Just make sure you load a different ROM up afterwards as a stock rooted ROM isn't usually stable and will usually give you random Force Closes on different apps. I recommend Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo or Cyanogenmod 6 personally. Both are faster and very stable. There's a few Vanilla ROMS under the EVO themes section.
help rooting
I am a first time rooter, and I need simple instructions as a "how-to" guide to rooting. Can anyone walk me through step by step? Just explain it like u would to an idiot. Also, what are the benefits of rooting, and is it un-doable? Thanks!

[Q] how to upgrade android 2.3 on my hd2

I am using HTC HD2 with froyo 2.2.1. m so keen to have android 2.3 gingerbread on my hd2. how can i download its file? do i need to upgrade my ROM?
Yes, try visiting the HD2 Android Development forums.
Depending on your boot method, there are two forums:
HD2 Android NAND Development
and
HD2 Android SD Development
To learn more check the links above and read both the sticky and chosen Rom threads carefully.
2.3
Give this a go its MDJ's version of gingerbread
http://www.multiupload.com/D0YIILRQ6I
If this is something easily found in XDA or elsewhere, my apologies, but I haven't been able to locate an answer. I am, obviously, pretty new to this.
I have Froyo on my HD2 and would like to upgrade to Gingerbread. My concern is with the settings, apps, and data that are already in the phone. If I flash a Gingerbread ROM, will I lose these items and have to reset and redownload, or will the current settings and apps remain? Or is there an upgrade process different from the usual flashing process?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

So in other word you want to root your phone and install a custom rom, did I get that right?
First find a thread in g1 that explains rooting process, Then go to 'G1's android development' and pick a custom rom that you would like to try, and follow the instructions give in the first post of the custom rom, good luck and happy flashing!

I would like to add, do research on the ROM before you decide which one you will flash. See which one you like the best before you install the ROM. It will be a lot easier in the long run. But of course, you can try each one to see what you like best about them. And then go with the best one (That's a long way and a lot of flashing to do).
This is from my experience (even with the research I did), I currently have a ROM that I might not keep. But it suit me for now until I do more research on what will be the best one for my use.

I dont know if I am allowed to post links to other websites but google CyanogenMod wiki for mytouch 4g and click on the full update guide and it will show you step by step how to downgrade and root the mytouch. Then you can flash any of the gingerbread roms you like. Make sure you follow the directions exactly or else you will brick your device. Also make sure the md5 sums match up for each file before you start the process.

lol i was just looking at CyanogenM im really liking the android 4 OS, id like to put that on my phone. i think what i want to do is get the 2.3.4 back(if i cant get Android 4) and have it rooted
You downgrade to 2.2.1 use gfree to obtain s-off then flash clockworkmod recovery and then flash any rom you want. the software number (2.2.1 2.3.4 2.3.5 etc.) Changes with each rom. Now if you look closely 2 posts up you will see the beta 4.0.1 thread we have and above that the sticky where it shows how to downgrade and how to root after that, PLEASE read before searching and search before posting

2. Yes, there is a stock GB rooted ROM on the dev page somewhere
3. Don't really understand your question
4. There is an ICS AOSP Beta. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383629
