Nexus S 4g vs G2x - Nexus S General

Observations:
* Dual core is overrated. Nexus is just as fast in real use. Though dual core may be better for battery life.
* Tegra2 games work with nexus s via chainfire 3d
* I much, much prefer the Nexus s build quality, AMOLED screen, curve is much nicer; though the g2x is higher resolution due to amoled's pentile display, colors are much nicer on AMOLED, especially blacks.
* G2x briefly loses signal when switching from 2G to 4G mode, meaning missed calls can occur during that time
Nexus S issues:
* Wifi randomly disconnects even with sleep mode set to "never"
* USB Storage disappears randomly requiring reboot
* Capaciaive buttons especially back button get stuck requiring pressing power button to sleep then unsleep the phone
* Camera crashed on me once and rebooted. (I'm on stock 2.3.5)
Sprint vs Tmobile:
* Sprint 3G is abysmally slow. T-mobile's 3G which they market as 4G is faster than Sprint 4G with much lower latencies
* 3 way calling, call hold, call waiting/swapping features much better on Tmobile...can do 6 calls at once
* I think overall call sound quality may be slightly better on T-mobile (not 100% sure) but definitely less staticky/noisy on Sprint. I can hear more highs on T-mobile and fewer echo problems. I've enabled EVRC-B and 4GV on NS4G by the way.
* T-mobile has txt message delivery confirmation and auto splits SMSs over 160 characters, Sprint does not

Nicely put, but dont this just mean that the Tmo NS owns the both of them?

Hey Strung I just ordered my Nexus S 4G from Amazon for 1 cent out the door delivered! I was going to use a Sprint employee's email and CID number to get the Everything Plus Refferal price of $69.99 but they dont give corporate discounts on top of that plan. I was better off going with the regular $79.99 and then get my 20% discount for an even lower price of 63.99. Can't wait to sell my G2X to pay off my Tmobile early termination fee.

Having had an Epic 4g in the past, I can say that the Epic has better/stronger wifi performance than Nexus S 4g. Also when I leave the house and my wifi range, the NS4g doesn't seem to know until I turn on the phone and notice it is showing connected to wifi and then it remembers to switch to 3g.
Generally, speaker volume is too low (web/music/games/ringtones e.t.c), OMG! The Epic sounds like those Harley motorcycles while the NS4g is like a hybrid vehicle. Wish it were louder.
One place where the NS4g shines with me is call quality. Maybe its the curved display thingy that contours the phone better to your face or something else but being on a call is crisp and nice. I just got mine recently and couldn't believe how clear and crisp the other person sounded on my end.
Despite these lil flaws, still a keeper. Can't put it down yet.

this is a wonderful comparison! I would mention that the tmo nexus probably gets slightly better battery life since it's only 3.5g (regardless, it's faster than what I get on wimax). Also, in side by side comparisons, the nexus feels wayyy smoother and more responsive than the g2x.
tegra2 or not, i want a smooth phone, so the nexus wins for me.

I have the EVO3D and NS4G andy EVO performs tasks faster such as loading plants v zombies, populating titanium backup and application manager, and rendering long text documents as far as what I've noticed. In the real world the NS4G is plenty fast and if it weren't for the horrible WiFi, data, and voice signals I would prefer it over the E3D.

Running Nexus S (non 4g) and have had none of these problems. Might want to clarify which Nexus S you are using, as some may not notice you said 2.3.5 and get that.

Have been looking, no luck. What's it called?
*Edit*
Never mind. Found it, Volume+

I have both ns4g and g2x and sprint has better signal den T-Mobile, T-Mobile only wrks good n big cities nexus s is just as smooth as g2x if not smoother T-Mobile data is faster den sprint 3g/4g and uses less battery but is it worth it at the price of no calls? And T-Mobile is sellin it's soul to at&t which means less phone selection n higher prices and sorry customer service so all in all sprint wins but I hate them for not sticking with wimax just stopped deploying it

New T-Mobile myTouch HD - A Vibrant with front-facing camera and HSPA+?

http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones...Term=hspa&WT.z_searchProduct=myTouch%99+-+New
There aren't very fine details out yet, such as what type of screen it is, how large the battery is, what type of processor (it is 1 ghz, though) etc. but it seems to be, more or less, a Vibrant with a front-facing camera and HSPA+.
The kicker, though, is this is (probably) going to be an HTC device, which runs circle around Samsung when it comes to high-end Android phones.

How is it like a Vibrant with a FFC? It looks nothing like the Vibrant, It has buttons (Not fully touch) & It's ugly
Isnt the screen smaller than a Vibrant?
Looks decent enough and has the one thing I wish Vibrant did... hard buttons. That's the only thing I wish the vibrant had.
Well...i am getting front facing camera on my vibrant soon. Don't care about HSPA+. Who is gonna download torrents on mobile phones!?

smaller screen, doesn't work on ATT 3G, no TV-out, only 8GB memory.
the only thing would be the HSPA+ b/c u can get FFC for vibrant:

HSPA+'s attraction is more less latency than higher speeds. Because, frankly speaking, once you pass the 5 Mbps mark, most website you visit won't load fast enough for you to even notice. The only exception is streaming videos in which case you are more likely to be capped by the server than your connection anyway.
What does less latency mean for end user? Real question, no pun.

Not as sexy as the Vibrant.
The single detail that makes it better than the Vibrant? It's an HTC.
The MyTouchHD is an awesome phone. The screen isn't as big as the Vibrant but the build quality is a lot better. I've had the pleasure of using it and if any phone would make me switch its that one. Just wish it didn't come with Sense.

i'd get the G2 over the mytouch HD.
not quite as 'vibrant' as the vibrant, bet it also doesnt vibrate as the vibrant
I believe the screen size is 3.8 in. Same width as the Vibrant, a couple of mm shorter. That's hardly anything to whine about. Ffc without having to completely hack my phone plus software support for video chat over 3G is definitely a plus. Native HSPA+ support. Shipped with froyo. My guess is that it will probably have a working GPS and compass. Swype preinstalled and Wifi calling too. This phone, although not as sexy looking as the Vibrant, looks very promising.
its official, and its just the MyTouch

Hspa+ is real cool in its stats. But until it is widely available it's nearly worthless for most people. I figure by the time it's something that would actually affect me day to day itll be good timing to upgrade from my vibrant. My touch looks cool, ffc is a nice touch but it's also something I know I would rarely use.

Im contemplating selling my Vibrant. Even though this new MyTouch may lack some of the sexiness of the Samsung, HTC's customer service seems more on point. I rather my money go there. Wifi calling, Froyo, FFC, GPS that works (assuming) is more reason to drop the Samsung Vibrant.

Voip is much better when your latency is 60-80ms instead of 160-200ms.
Web pages begin loading much quicker (large pages still take a while to render, but small pages seem to come up instantly).
Google Maps tiles load quicker.
Little things that make the web feel faster are mostly latency-dependent. And typically, HSPA+ has lower latency than WiMax

Frustrated and fed up with Samsung's lack of support for the Vibrant, I contemplated switching to the G2, but wasn't impressed when I checked it out at a T-Mobile store over the weekend. Now that the MyTouch HD has been announced, my Vibrant will be going up for sale.
So wait, do you guys mean that the Vibrant can't benefit from Hspa+? You actually need a specific phone?

A few more days to decide if i keep Sprint EVO or go with TMo G2

(I posted this over at the TMo forum, but figured I might get some more suggestions/help here).
I have the Sprint EVO on the everything plan and it gives me 450 minutes to any landline. All cell to cell calls are included. I pay $80/month and that includes all SMS, data and navigation.
I have a few days before my 30 days are up to decide if I stick with it or go with something else.
I have never had a CDMA phone before. My only concern is if I trash/drop the phone it my kids drop it in the toilet, then I have to purchase another CDMA unit. If I go with TMo, and I trash a phone, I can put the SIM in any of my unlocked GSM phones. I've always used ATT but now am considering the new G2 on TMo.
Would appreciate any advice/suggestions.
Do I keep the EVO and the pretty decent plan, or go to TMo before my window of return closes for two years?
My needs are not huge, but father-in-law has very kindly agreed to pay the monthly bill, so that is a big help.
I do surf the net a fair bit (Facebook, few blogs, search for directions, phone numbers etc, but not excessive.
Talk: just the normal calls to family (i'll be home at 6pm, can you pick up milk etc.) and then the odd 20+ minute call to a friend every now and again. My biggest thing with regards to calling (landlines, businesses or other cellphones) is I don't want to have to look at a clock and wonder if I can call now or wait ½ an hour until a certain time of the day or be concerned what network they are on — just want to be able to pick up the phone and call whenever I need to, as I don't have a landline.
Used to be with ATT, but want a change. ATT often cripples their phones by barring features (e.g. on wife's ATT Samsung Captivate, you can't install non-market APKs because the Unknown Sources checkbox option has been removed).
So far, my experience with the EVO and Sprint has been decent. EVO battery isn't exactly stellar.
I have thoroughly enjoyed switching to an Android phone and want to stay.
PS - In San Diego area if that will help regarding coverage
I will preface this by saying I am a former T-mo customer of 10 years. I don't have anything negative to say about T-mo, they have always taken care of me. I will say that the choice of phones recently (specifically android was sparse) because they were resting on the laurels of the G1 and then went in on the Nexus One Sales fiasco.
That aside, the plan is a good deal, and although they claim "really" unlimited data, I think it was shown that it is capped at 5GBs. But considering your internet use that isn't bad. I will say that likely your Sprint plan would be cheaper. As far as the G2 goes, I haven't done a lot of reading on it, but I think it is actually inferior to the EVO. Additionally, while you could get the Nexus One as well, I think even it is getting long in the tooth. You could also opt for the Samsung Captivate?Facinate? I get all the names messed up.
If your only gripe with the EVO is the battery, then I would recommend the Seidio 3500mAh battery. You won't regret it. You will never complain about the battery again. I think moving to Tmo for the G2 will probably be a mistake, however GSM phones are nice because as you pointed out, if you have a non-smart phone already, you can always downgrade your plan and then just stick your sim card into the G1 and use Wifi. I hope that helps.
How did you get your father in law to pay for your bill?
Better yet, why would you even consider letting him pay for your phone bill?
And as far as your post: I have an Evo. I would trade it for a G2 in a heartbeat.
Tmobile does not have the best track record for reception though - keep that in mind. While they are cheaper and offer some pretty slick phones it comes at a price. If you get great reception in your area with tmo then do it. If not, what is the point in getting a smart phone?
Spotty 3g coverage here in St. Louis for t-mobile made it an easy decision for me. Love my Evo.

Ok, that is a very condescending statement. Maybe it was a gift? Maybe His father has his whole family on one plan at a discount? He probably wouldn't even have bought this phone if he had to pay for it himself?
Ok, now that that is out of the way.
Why would you trade the EVO for the G2 in a heartbeat? I looked up the G2 and what I see is a hybrid Nexus One/G1 mashup. It looks kind of nice, but having used the G1 for two years, let me be the first to say, the only thing to fail on the G1 for me was the keyboard. Don't get me wrong, I do miss it, but it is the weak link. Four co-workers also owned the G1 and all of them had multiple keyboard failures.
5MP camera? That is going backwards. 3.7" Screen... again, going backwards. I didn't see an HDMI out (not that this currently gets much use). It is my understanding that this is supposed to sport the 800Mhz Snapdragon, although that must be wrong, thats like triple strike.
The only reason I could see getting the G2 is if you want a hard keyboarded Nexus One... and if thats the case, samsung makes the epic. As far as I see, it is inferior to the EVO in every way. Oh.... and assuredly it also has poor battery life, so add an extended battery just like I did on the G1 and the EVO and then it looses its "thin/sexy" appeal.
I am not sold. To me this is just Tmo trying to get a leg up on the EVO and failing. "4G LIKE SPEEDS"? Whats that all about? My friends use their HDSPA+ (sp.) and are getting like 2Mbps down. Not all that impressed. I can get 6.5Mbps on 4G.
Thats my opinion and I am sticking too it.

Long story, but basically someone in the family canceled our (previous) ATT contract without telling us (messy family dynamics). One day we had cell signal and then all of a sudden, nothing. I think it was his way to make things right and help, even though he wasn't at fault - phone was a gift!
I do appreciate the helpful input on how you folks are using your devices and what is good or not good.
I recently bought my sister the My Touch Slide and the rep told me we had 3g coverage where we lived but once we got home it had a big E on the data icon but full bars for service. I kept looking for a 2g/3g switch thinking it was auto 2g cause after all the phone had full almost perfect reception. But after looking I called T-mobile and found out almost the entire state I live in does not have 3g coverage. No wonder no one uses T-mobile around here. I was very pissed at the sales rep for lying or just not knowing. He kept trying to sign us up for an iPhone and I almost told him to shove it up his.... but how can they still not have 3g here? The other cell companies do. Including the ones smaller than T-Mobile. Anyways, I would be sure to check coverage. Any phone will have poor battery life if it has poor reception. Typing this got me pissed again LOL
Sent from my iPhone with the bigger Gee Bees.
Phone wise, I'd take the G2 over the EVO 4G.
I've seen people get 3-4 Mbps over T-Mo's HSPA+ network on a Nexus One which ISN'T a HSPA+ phone. I have no idea what people are getting with the G2 (which is HSPA+) but I saw a Android Central post showing 15 Mbps. Either way, T-Mo is claiming up to 21 Mbps which is a good bit faster than Clear/Sprint's WiMax max of 10 Mbps. So for now, it seems like HSPA+ on the G2 is faster.
The G2 also has a nice looking hardware keyboard, and even after using the EVO (which has a large screen and thus large on screen keyboard +Swype) and the iPhone (which has the best standard on screen keyboard IMO), I'd still rather have a hardware keyboard to type out longer emails.
Processor wise, it's a no contest, the G2 is better. I've seen videos of it running a live wall paper + the 3D app drawer with buttery frame rates -- something the EVO CAN'T DO. And of course gaming is also going to be a lot better.
Software wise it has two big things: 1) it's close to stock and I prefer stock over anything, and 2) Cyanogen is already claiming support and I believe it's actually going to be his day to day phone. So expect it to get speedy updates.
It's pretty much a upgraded Nexus One with a hardware keyboard which is.. great. The EVO has one big upside:it's 4.3" display; but otherwise it's a old phone (2009 specs) with a couple of novelty benefits (HDMI, Kick stand, FF cam).

That 800 MHz Snapdragon is a 2nd generation Snapdragon which is not only faster but also more energy efficient than the 1 GHz one on the EVO. The GPU alone is somewhere around 3 times more powerful.

HDMI is a niche feature that people barely if at all ever use. Video calling, until Skype VIDEO chat comes back (or Google video shat comes) it's also pretty useless. Smaller screen is a preference thing, but as I said, I prefer the larger screen.
The processor is absolutely faster and better -- IT IS NOT SLOWER. Clock speed doesn't always equal better, and this is one of the cases when it doesn't. The benchmarks show this. The Snapdragon on the EVO is a old CPU/GPU that dates back to the HD2 in 2009.
Flash as in Adobe Flash? It launches with 2.2 so of course it's there; and not only is it there, but it's probably better or going to be better than on the EVO. The Adreno 205 on the G2 has Flash hardware acceleration, the EVO's GPU doesn't. That means better performance and less battery drain when viewing flash video.
T-Mo's off contract plans are way better. If you can stomach paying the up front cost of a phone, it's as cheap as Sprint over the long run.
Why would should anyone get a Nexus One over the G2? G2: Nexus One + better CPU/GPU, hardware keyboard, HSPA+ ready.

It doesn't matter. There are still Sense services running in the background taking up RAM and CPU time. Plus all the Sense apps (contacts/phone/etc) are just as slow as the Sense launcher compared to it's AOSP counterparts.
Going to tmobile from Sprint is like going from a Corvette ZR1 to a v6 Camaro for me. Worst service ive ever had reception wise by FAR. Dead spots everywhere, no 3G half the time... it was just unbearable. Couldnt use my phone inside of the house... I just cant do it. Their HSPA claims are nice, but thats when you actually have 3G. Honestly, here in Atlanta I think metro has better coverage than Tmobile.
And I keep hearing how this HSPA is supposed to be so much better than Sprints 4G.. but out of all of the Nexus and G2 owners i've tested against here in Atlanta not a single ONE of them could get over 3-5 megs down constantly while I drew 10-12 regularly. As far as "faster processor".. honestly its a phone, I could care less about 12 thousandths of a second difference in opening an app.
Video chat is useless without skype? Thats your opinion and you're entitled to it but thats just silly. I use fring and now the new video chat app with plenty of my friends with the evo, epic AND the iphone 4 pretty much everyday. It's easy to say its useless when its a feature your phone doesnt have. Keyboard? Dont need it... with swype and shapewriter im just as fast as I was with physical keys on the typing... plus HTC has been KNOWN to be sketchy in the department of sliders with the whole chord seperation fiasco of the TP1 and the keyboard issues of the TP2... I had both.
There is basically nothing about the G2 that'd make me choose it over the evo but its all a matter of preference. But the fact that its on tmobile pretty much seals the deal that ill NEVER have one. Only way id leave Sprint service wise is Verizon.
Service/Coverage varies from place to place -- Sprint sucks in some places too. It's up to you to find out which one is best in your area.
As for the CPU/GPU issue: It just reminds me of some of my past experiences with other products. I remember getting a convertible Vista tablet a while back. It had pretty good specs but the GPU turned out to be crap. I never intended to game on it but even though everything else ran perfectly, anything dealing with Aero was choppy. It was annoying. I bought a pretty expensive tablet and the least I'd expected was for the OS UI animations to run smooth.
I experienced the same thing on the EVO. I don't game much, but UI stuff like live wall papers and 3D app drawers cause the EVO to crawl. It isn't TOO bad right now but what if Gingerbread finally brings GPU acceleration and a more animated UI? Can we expect the EVO/first gen Snapdragon to keep up? I'm not too confident.
I like mine since I can swap my coverage to verizon when sprint is weak in reception while traveling
But thats the thing... I know phones are regional but I had tmobile while I was in DC, New Orleans, Birmingham and LA and had reception issues in every spot. Traveling on I-10 from Mobile to New Orleans was a tragedy with my reception.
Honestly you should go with whatever carrier has the best reception in your area. Would really be bad to be locked into a contract and have to outside to make calls.
I would go back to t mobile if they pick of their service. Buts thats for me and my area. Android phones are becoming so replaceable since all the new ones are high powered and they all do the same things. You should really only concern yourself with service and price

So after owning the G2 for a few weeks...

I'm happy to say that I'm back on my Samsung Vibrant! The G2 is a great looking phone, and fast at that too. Issues that made me walk away from it....
Hinge was fine when I first got it, but after a few weeks it got really loose.
Force closed on my Apps so many times, it made me wanna toss it out the window a few times.
Rebooted itself at least once a day. This morning it did it 3 times back-to-back. Really?!?!
Can't get a perm root, and it looks like a few are starting to give up on it. I'm sure it'll be rooted, but not any time soon.
I really missed the Vibrant crew. You guys are a bunch of cool Mother F__kers!
Missed this pretty ass screen! <3
Oh, and I know this is minor, but I couldn't do this <3 because the G2 is missing this key "<"
Done.
I haven't heard of any of them rebooting themselves. That is weird.
Did you do something to the phone to make that happen?
traitor.
j/k.
welcome back to the Vibrant.
Let's make a group called "The Vibrants!"
I didn't do anything to it at all. I didn't even try to install temp root either. I didn't want to mess with the phone till their was a perm root.
If you go to the G2 forum section, you'll see that a few people had a issues with the phone rebooting on its own. Even when I called T-Mobile about the issue, I was told that they've been getting calls about the issue.

There has definitely been people having issues with the phone rebooting by itself. Sometimes even 3 times in a day like he mentioned. Seen plenty of people on my Twitter timeline complain about it. There seem to be a lot of issues with the phone.

We're pretty cool
You were lucky to return it. There are posts that some people have been put on a wait list due to so many returns coming in.

I am on my third G2 with the fourth replacement on the way and so far all have had very similar issues.1.Very very poor to no reception. 2. random rebooting, 3. Black screen freezes. 4. Dropped calls. 5. Loose hinges that keep getting looser. 6. When deploying keyboard apps start randomly. 7. Very difficult to connect to market. 8. Powers itself off on a random basis. I am so Grateful that I still have my Vibrant. So far I would rank it way above the G2. If my fourth one has the same issues and there is no OTA update to fix some of them I will send it back. IMO I believe the Vibrant is the best phone available at this time.

I agree about the Vibrant being the best phone right now.
Thanks for telling me this after I just purchased a G2...
Actually I'm not giving my Vibrant up just yet. Once my G2 gets here I'll have both. I was able to get the G2 new for $200 flat-out (no contract) So I'm gonna keep them both for a while and see what happens. Then maybe I'll sell one
Told them so........
Told them so........ but no one listens The Vibrant best phone on the market today.
Smartphones I have had:
2 blackberrys, 3 Iphones, 1 nokia, 2 Winmo Phones, the G1 and the Hd 2
Of all those phones only the HD2 came close in overall performance to the Vibrant...... but not android and what a battery hog- did like the htc sense
What I like about the Vibrant (besides almost everything) it is very forgiving when you brick, I have been able to restore from all screwups I have created within 1 hr.
Within the first 20 min of trying a G2 I knew it was going to be buggy that is why I stayed with this phone
Good luck But Vibrant still RocKs
That just proves that every phone had issues. No phone is perfect.

Anyone try the EVO 4G? I wouldn't switch, I was just wondering. I love my vibrant, but my friend is switching because of the hype of 4G and the large screen. I've never tried seen an EVO up close so I'm not sure how good it really is.

Yeah I had the Evo before I got my Vibrant. It's a good phone, but Sprint sucks and the hype of the 4G is complete bull. I got about 4mbps tops on 4G and my Vibrant gets 6.

This thread help me decide somethings. I am kicking Verizon to the curb because of billing issues. I am really looking at T-Mobile. Not sure if I want the Vibrant or HD2. I have a Droid X and now hooked on the 4.3".
Had thought about Evo but know the battery is horrible. I thought of the G2 because of HSPA+ but looks like I need to do the Vibrant or HD2.

Personally I'd rather they get rid of RFS before I worry about Froyo. Faster JIT sounds nice but when your largest bottleneck is the FS, it doesn't matter. It's like driving a Ferrari in a school zone.
I love everything about the phone except the RFS. RFS is an example of companies drinking their kool-aid and wearing their sneakers, with the same result when it comes to plastic bags and breathing.
If you flash Bionix, Master ROM, AOSPish, or Eugene's R4, your phone will run like butter. Like. It's ridiculous how fast this thing is. I can't even stand to use the Nexus One it feels so laggy after witnessing such smoothness on the vibrant.
Other than that. My G2 also went back. It's not worth the hype nor the money. They could have made it AWESOME but no, they made it suck. The Vibrant is THE best phone. It out-performs EVERY phone in both power and slickness. The screen is the best. Once we get Froyo rolling we will be king. Forever. The only comparable/better phone to the Vibrant in smoothness (on menus/swyping screens) is the iPhone 4. But that's Crapple.
As far as the Evo 4g goes, it's ugly, and 4g aka Wimax is ***** **** that can't even touch T-Mobile's 3g itself, let alone HSPA+. My vibrant pulls 6.3mb/s. Sprint's 4g can't do that. Sprint is a joke and should be sued for false advertising
As far as the Droid X goes, it's huge and bulky. I just got one for testing on WQVGA854 screens for my apps. It's a decent device but it is more sluggish than anticipated even on Froyo. My vibrant on 2.1 runs Way smoother than my Nexus, G2, and DroidX combined, and they're all froyo.
The Vibrant is also a lot more slick than the Droid X. The Droid X is huge.
Also, depending on your location of course, T-Mobile is the best and 2nd cheapest (cricket), and most honest *cough*at&t*cough* provider. They have the nicest reps and the fastest 3g.
Vibrant -> ALL.
Vibrant 2.2 ---------------------------> all
Not to mention the Vibrant can get the FFC now as well. HSPA+ is only 8-10MB/s here in Pittsburgh as compared to 6.3MB/s, so it's not THAT big of a difference.
I will be keeping my Vibrant and loving it until Samsung drops the HSPA+ Dual Core Vibrant 2, on Gingerbread of course . And an unlimited-point touch screen with a QuadrupleSuperAMOLED HD lmao and 1920/1080 resolution... ROFL. Along with T-Mo's 42mb/s HSPA+ when that rolls. Not to mention a Camera button on the same side as the volume rocker and a mini HDMI out on the other side and... blah. Yes I dream.. 10 megapixel camera... records 1080p... a WiFi module with the power of a laptop's... and some real bluetooth compatibility... and a flash on the back camera... Make it Quad Core processor at 3.0GHz too LOL. I've gone too far.
OH and can't forget the quad-speaker setup that it should also have. Two speakers on the back and two speakers on the front. (top/bottom) and a 6800 mAh battery... that lasts like. 2 weeks. And make the touch screen feel like you could almost be touching water. But not wet.
Hahahaha. And. Uh. 1TB mini-SSD internal drive With 8GB/s transfer rate. Boots up in 5 seconds. Would be instant but needs a splash screen

Yeah You are dreaming...and misrepresenting the truth. By the time you get Froyo it will be time to get a new phone. I had the Vibrant for almost 30 days (Cali) sent it back before the remorse period. I rooted it on the first day, the screen is over saturated for my taste (hurts the eyes) and the quality of the phone is plastic and flimsy. The Samsung Epic is a better choice. As for Sprint, I have hit 10+ downloads speeds in the valley and overall they have more coverage (3G) then T-Mobile. The Roms for the Vibrant were sorely insufficient for my taste as well, plus touchwiz is just ugly. Try taking a picture without any light, no video calls, no front camera, no dual led flash= less than Evo or Epic. However, it is slightly behind Nexus and Incredible as far as what it can do. The processor is geared toward gaming, but in other areas it will fall short. Run a linpack on that thing if and when you get Froyo and tell me what you get. You will never get above 20 mflops. So, in that area all the other phones I mentioned are killing the Vibrant.
I returned 2 g2's because of random reboots, so yes that is an issue
i am back to my good ole vibrant

So which phone are you going back to?

Have had it in use for more than a day. Battery life sucks, data speeds suck, screen is less than unimpressive...and when compared to my no-longer outgoing ATT Nexus One, its subpar in nearly every way that I seem to use a smartphone.
Its going back tomorrow. Who else is as turned-off this quickly by the Atrix?

This is a total troll post right? I've had the nexus one since day one, and by no means it anywhere close to this phone, and my nexus one is on gingerbread.
Troll post?
The Atrix may have larger performance numbers on paper but I'm saying that for how I use a phone the Atrix isnt great...its not even good.
My n1 screams in comparison; its hands down a better device.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I appear to be having the exact opposite experience as I'm absolutely loving mine.
Oh, and I'm coming from an iP4 and an Inspire as my last 2 phones. Inspire batter was just horrid for me, but the Atrix has taken a full day's punishment of being used heavier than normal and I still have about 40% remaining. That includes tons of gaming (crazy snowboard and Angry Birds mostly) and some music, YouTube and browsing.

How exactly does it blow it out of the park when stock Nexus S gives 1200 to 1300 in Quadrants and the Atrix gives 2800 COMPLETELY STOCK? Super Saturated Amoled Screen? No thank you.
What makes it so great for you guys?
I prioritize battery life, data speed, customization, size in hand. With those considerations the Atrix disappoints.
It may be great for some, but im still tallying the list of what I can no longer do in giving up the nexus for the atrix. So I'm headed back
I'm not looking to piss off folk, but just see if others see it the same way. New is not always better, QED.

Coming from a Captivate running 2.2.1 (Serendipity 5.11), the Atrix is a lot faster. Absolutely no lag from my experience. Just missing the fast upload speeds...
Umm what nexus s gives that stock stock I pull 1969 non 2978 on voodoo kernal and 2.3 works with the ui to speed things up a feature only in 2.3 not froyo and 2.4 will be even better witch you will need a atrix 2 to see 2.4 I bet.

Funny how your FULLY customize Nexus S needs all that to stand BESIDES the Atrix. And get your facts straights. 2.4 is Gingerbread. Which all new phones will see soon enough. Atrix I'm guessing even sooner.
I think it's just personal preference is all. I prefer the speed, display, screen size of the Atrix. It also absolutely smokes flash video. Speakers aren't tinny and have tons of clean volume which is a welcome change. Storage is also very nice, especially not having a small app storage. The fingerprint scanner is working perfectly for me and I find it easier to unlock my phone while taking it out of my pocket. Voice quality is a ton better for me as well. Gaming is way smoother than the N1 and multitouch is better.
Those are a few of the things that make is pretty great to me.

I dont own an Atrix (yet) but had a chance to experiment with the device.
Customization and size can be considered very similar to the nexus 1. Data speeds is got to do with the AT&T network, not the phone. And my guess is that the battery life also better.
The only disappointment is the screen as compared to the captivate (i own..). The amoled screen though saturated colors is still better than the Atrix. The angry birds on the Atrix had the colors very dull. (i mean very disappointing.) Also the brightness with the max setting is equi9valent to say 25% brightness on the Amoled. But maybe thats bcoz i have got used to the captivate screen.
Otherwise the phone is super fast and responds very well. Quality is far better than the captivate.
Ah for nexus s its 2.3 gingerbread and the atrix wont taste icecream like the nexus s will good luck with even tasting 2.4 and roms fat chance #smh but enjoy moto helo moto

still testing it out and i think its too soon to say i'll switch... but if xperia arc is available within 30 days i might be tempted... and my backup would be HTC Inspire 4g
so far my issues are battery life, moto blur, locked bootloader, data speed, some unsupported apps (due to resolution) and random lag
what i like is the weight, screen resolution, hdmi out, duo core speed, speed and of course more speed... I also like the "idea" of the accessories like the laptop dock, but will probably never purchase one
I'm sure the battery life will get better after a few charges, it is the first day after all and possibly with a firmware or two the data rates will improve as well.
If I do return it will be on the 30th day so I can get the full feel of the atrix express before I make a final decision
Just my two cents

My battery life is MUCH better on the Atrix than the Inspire was for me. Ringer/notification volume is loud and clear vs the Inspire as well. I can set the phone down in the car and hear nav instructions easily even with music playing in the car. Flash video plays pretty well on the Inspire, but it gets smoked by the Atrix. I also love the docks such as the car dock. It's amazing how much easier it is to use in the car with a custom dock.
Battery life is better on the Atrix. I'm coming from a Nexus One.
The touch sensor on the N1 is also garbage. Typing on the Atrix is much improved.
720p video quality is much improved, although grainier than my Captivate.
Atrix loads faster than Nexus One.
I would rate the Atrix a "fair" upgrade. Just fixed some things about the N1 that I grew tired of.
P.S. Crippled upload is a bummer considering the front facing camera.

A word of encouragment to potential buyers

Just wanted to drop a line here for anyone interested in the Atrix. I did a lot of reading and if I based my decision on wether or not to buy the Atrix off of what I have read I wouldn't have. However...
I came from the iPhone 4 and had used it from launch. Im a huge phone addict and have had pretty much everything, Evo, Pre, Hero, Storm, Bold, Inspire, Curve and many others.
I went from my iPhone 4 to the Inspire and although I enjoyed the Inspire I had a few issues with it like size, battery life, screen resolution and some funny issues with lag while scrolling through the browser. It would constantly reset while zooming and ovvrall lacked the fluidity of my iPhone.
So I decided to gamble despite what I have read and buy the Atrix. Although I haven't had much time with the phone their are many advantages.
* Scrolling in the browser is the best I have seen. So fluid, with no reloading of pages. No grey checkers.
*The screen is incredible. I love the small fonts and clarity. Second only to the iPhone.
*Battery isn't even broken in but seems much improved over the Inspire and some of the other phones I have had.
*SMS interface and response is much preffered.
* I can actually see that notification light on this phone unlike the Inspire which was under the speaker grill.
Possible annoyances.
Moto Blur. I am at work now and got the phone just before as hvent set up a single widget thus far.
Oh I also LOVE the size of this phone. A perfect round feel with an awesome 4" display.
My point is don't be afraid to try this phone. It has been spectacular so far as my foeat Motorola phone.
Its a fantastic phone and this is coming from another cell phone junky and I am also coming from the" All Mighty Iphone 4" and I could not be happier.

I'll third this. The phone is pretty good. I also came from an i4. I know there's alot of iPhone hate out there, but the phone "works", as does the Atrix. It's not perfect, but then "perfect" is just an opinion. Now if we could just get some HSUPA love...
I also came from an iPhone 4 and I'm not missing it one bit

I just returned my Atrix and went back to the iPhone 4, nobody could hear me on the Atrix when I made a phone call, besides that I was pretty happy with it but nothing is as rock solid as the iPhone.
i pretty much agree with everything OP says
dammn moto blur
I actually like motoblur because of its stability. I haven't had anything go wrong tland the only time I've had trouble talking to someone was when I called their iphone, a little ironic. I came from a sanding epic, att rocks compared to sprint and the call quality is amazing. I agree with everything the op said except blur. Also I think a great review that descibes what I think the phone is the review engadget gave.

I'll take blur over Touchwiz all day long. I absolutely love my Atrix.
The launcher part of motto blur can always be swapped by something else.. Like launcher pro or adw ..
Only thing I'll miss from touch wiz is the notification settings drop down :x..getting this phone on monday
Sent from my Captivate using XDA App
I'm really hoping that Moto unlocked the bootloader; I have the phone and life the screen and speed though.
Great phone but data network stinks (like Cust Svc)!
I've been playing around with my Atrix and can agree with the OP, BUT the data speeds are absolutely HORRIBLE for me here north of Philadelphia (about 10 mi).
I did both a Speedtest.net and a Speakeasy.net test on the phone and saw about a 1Mbps download and a 0.1Mbps upload and the phone status was showing that I was connected to HSDPA. Walked into a Verizon store and did the same tests on their netbook connected up to their 4G USB stick and saw 25Mbps down and 5Mbps up!
22x download speed and 50x upload? Do I want to be locked into a 3G1/2 speed device for the next two years? Should I punt, return the Atrix and wait for a Droid Bionic or a HTC Thunderbolt with a true LTE radio?
AT&T customer service has been HORRIBLE about grandfathering me into an unlimited dataplan...if Verizon launches their 4G phones with unlimited 4G data I think I'm gone along with the other three phones on my family plan!
For now, back to my old Raphael (Fuze) and no phones on contract!!!
I have both iphone 4 and atrix and since I got the atrix the iphone 4 has just been sitting on my dresser. I am just really enjoying the android os overall.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I'm also coming from iP4.
Display on iphone has lot more colors (you can see it in the maps)
Internet is faster on iPhone sadly, so much for 4G... and upload speed is capped on atrix, so you only get 300k..
Tango, skype doesn't work on atrix.... not yet at least.
Other then that it's good.
I just posted my iPhone 4 for sale on craigslist. I'm very happy with the atrix. The web browsing is awesome vs the iPhone. The speed and resolution make every single app that much better. I can actually see more than a few lines of text above the keyboard when writing emails or texts. Plus I love the voice commands, widgets and swype!
