New high-res 7" tab coming - Galaxy Tab General

http://www.bgr.com/2011/08/01/new-samsung-galaxy-tab-with-high-res-super-amoled-screen-may-land-in-september/
As soon as September!

Good official news. Can't wait for this

Didn't make too much sense to me - 1024x768 screen? The tab is 1024x600 now, and I can't see samsung going 4:3, all the devices are currently 16:9.

Yeah, really weird. Seems like 1280x800 would have made so much more sense. Same resolution all the other Honeycomb tabs run, and 720p HD playback.

Agreed with this. It would also make sense if they upgraded the the display to amoled instead of the pixels. Even a processor upgrade would be good.

I was thinking the same thing and I looked a bit more into it, and it seems that 1024x768 can be 16:9, a qoute from wiki
"An array of 1024×768 on a 16:9 display has rectangular pixels."
So, it seems that they are sticking with 16:9. Great news for me

mmm... the tab 10.1 is blocked now by Apple in Australia... any danger of these tabs being blocked by Apple here in the US?

Great news. I presume this new 7" tab will have the same thinness and sexy styling as the new Samsung tabs. Now I am stuck between the new 7" and 8.9" tabs.

[OFFTOPIC] Exynos 3D demo @1080p / 60fps

Its hardly breaking a sweat
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsungs_exynos_4210_gaming_side_shown_off_at_the_gdc_2011-news-2388.php
Just can say : WOWEEEEHHHH !
A generic looking Starfox demo? I am still skeptical about the grafix race on smartphones. It's getting caught in the same mire as the PC. Tech demos that don't mean anything beyond fps counters and nerd bragging rights. The games that people actually play, like Magicka and Minecraft, can work on ancient hardware, not to mention WoW. As long as it helps multimedia use, UI acceleration, and power consumption, it is still justified. But beyond that when the focus is purely 3D gaming and the battery life goes to hell and the phone turns into a hand toaster, hopefully they will reel it in and stay pragmatic.

They've upped the graphical features since Cataclysm. Water physics/splashes are now in the game, for example.

Baking custom roms

Hi all
We are looking at using the a500 as an ebook repository for students
Can anyone point me to information on cooking custom roms for it?
Basicly I want to strip out all the software except the needed ebook software
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
Just an opinion, but the A500 is a rather capable and expensive device to be limiting it to just running an eBook app. There are quite a few dedicated eBook devices at 1/4th the price (or less) of an A500 that are relatively limited to being a single purpose eReader right out of the box.
An excellent example is an original Nook or Nook Simple. You can still root it, and easily remove any extra features, the battery life is almost exponentially longer, and it's much lighter weight.

we are also looking at the nookcolor, and a few others, but its only 7" and the need is for technicalmanuals(ie mechcanical enginering, network design and graphic art) calls for a 10' or better
also we are also looking at using the a500 for staff usage and havingonly one device simplifys the support issues

Baking a custom ROM can be quite difficult if you're a novice.
PM me your specs and I'll see what I can cook up.
Coby Kyros 1024 (10") also fits the requirement.

The problem with the kindle is its not color, this wouldn't be a problem if the books where designed for gray displays

Very valid points/requirements. Sounds like you're looking at the right device for all the right reasons.
Sorry, not much help in mass-cooking a ROM -- I'm more an individual machine tweaking type of guy. But do keep us at least generally updated on your endeavor. It would be great to know that the A500 (or any Android tablet) was successfully implemented in such a project.

Droid 3

The Motoblur on this looks awesome! why cant we get this version? i hope we get this version sometime.
I think its about the same if not the same as the 2.3.4 blur
Sent via the power of a unicorn's horn.
Looks like the version in our leaked 2.3.4 with a different lock screen.
this looks more fluid and such, from the version on the bionic, and droid x2, and photon. just looks better alltogether. different camera ui as well. different app drawer

Like others said all I see that is different is the lockscreen. I haven't used the new UI yet so I don't see the fluency difference.
Looks more responsive to me. However, ours is technically not out yet... not sure which is worse.

Maybe someone could port the camera app from that. Would be nice to have the panorama and some of the other features on it.
This is a bit offtopic and clutters the forum. On that note, thread closed.

Had mine for the grand total of 4 days...so far i can't fault it. I upgraded from my zte blade, and this is just awesome!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Well comparing it to the evo3d it basically has better specs plus hw acceleration which is a very nice feature. The screen is awesome imo, tho some people don't seem to like the oversaturated colours. Personally i love it but you have to check it yourself before you decide.
Anyway i wouldn't upgrade right now if i were you, you still have a very good phone, just wait for something newer and better, like the quadcores expected to come out in 2012
My first Android and like this so much. Even after using it for three months I still couldn't make it work the way I'd like, but still its not bad. Frankly, I'd be more happy if this device had iOS instead of Android.

If this phone had IOS instead of Android id sell it, IOS is nowhere near as good as Android, everything works out of the box but your strictly limited in what you can do,i hate restriction.
Best phone right now without a doubt, having owned it since May it's been excellent! Pervious Android device was the DHD, it's faster, smoother and slicker!

Fastest android phone out there, but build quality could be better.
tbh the only phone that could probably knock the sgs2 off it's perch is the motorola atrix.. bigger battery and tegra 2, but then i've never used one so i have no idea about user experience.
Hello My very post here. Best phone I ever owned. it would have been perfect if it was a tegra Device can't see why they did that for a flagship Device !!!!
You will miss sense. Htc phones have better dialer, more useful widgets, like for example favorite contacts and rss reader, better sms delivery report, lockscreen and ringtone volume management. On other side Sgs2 has better multimedia support (mkv) better screen and weight, brilliant call quality and its very smooth in menus.

I am more impressed about the fact that this thing flies with a 1Ghz dual core.
Bring on ICS on the 7.7, we need that level of performance. Apparences can be twicked.
