It could be. But we don't know for 100%. We don't even know what kind of virus is that..
Be more specific or try the full wipe if you want to.

Factory Reset is not clean your virus. Virus may contained on system folder and hide. Factory Reset mean you clean your setting data and application data.
So if some antivirus software can't clean your virus or not sure you got any virus, please flash original firmware using flashtool and format your SD card. Other way you can update to custom ROM (Recommendation : FroyoBread v023b final or GingerDX v004).
Method 1: Flash original firmware
Download flashtool.
Download original firmware, XXX015 baseband and copy it to firmwares folder in flashtool.
Make sure you have android USB driver on your PC.
Backup your contacts.
Turnoff your phone without connect it to pc.
Run flashtool and click on flash => choose original firmware => OK, and wait till the instruction popup.
Connect your phone to PC then press and hold "back" button on your phone.
Release "back" button when you popup closed.
When it is finished, unplug your phone, turn it on and choose your language.
Go to setting => application => tick on "Unknown sources"
Go to setting => application => Development => tick on "USB debugging"
Turnoff your phone again.
Go to flashtool and click on flash again.
Choose XXX015 baseband.
Follow instruction like you flash the original firmware.
Unplug and turn on your phone.
Optional: You all so can root, Ask root permission and install xRecovery to your phone by flashtool.
Connect to PC, go to flashtool and click on "root" then wait the phone restart.
Click on Ask root permission and press allow on your phone.
Click on xRecovery.
Method 2: Update to custom ROM.
Install xRecovery
Download custom ROM
Run xRecovery by restart and press "back" button repeatedly on your phone while you seeing Sony Ericsson logo.
When xRecovery come up, use volume up/down button to choose the options, back button to back and home button to select.
Select on "Factory reset (full wipe)".
Select on "Wipe cache partition".
Select on "Install custom zip".
Select on "Choose custom zip from sdcard".
Select your custom ROM and yes.
Press back button and restart your phone.
If you not sure about this, please wait me to create a video and download link.

I've been installing and uninstalling tons of APKs from various sources left and right and never got a virus lol
Also, great post tysovanmony.

chinese apps of agile lock for 300 points

Wwwwwhat? You're best bet, like they said is use flash tool or flash a custom rom, I'd go with the custom rom to be fair.

AFAIK, if that virus come from your PC (Windows) no need to scared about it
because it won't work on android
but if it comes from your PC that running linux, reflash via SEUS may seem a good alternative instead of flashing custom ROM

[GUIDE] How to root and update your Galaxy S to Jelly Bean

This guide shows you how to root and install a ROM.
I am NOT responsible for bricked devices or dead sd cards etc.
Hi,
Today i'm going to show you how to root and update your Galaxy S.
In this guide we flash custom kernel and rom.
But first, remember the drivers http://www.filefactory.com/file/3nhyqmo40111/n/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.zip
Now the rooting part.
1.Download Semaphore kernel http://semaphore.gr/downloads Choose the first one. (Semaphore_2.7.4.tar)
2. It may look like a zip file but it is not. So do not extract the tar file.
3. Open Odin (if you don't have it download it from http://ul.to/o2xcp01n )
4. Switch off the phone and wait for vibration. When it vibrates it is completely off
5. Make sure you have drivers.
6. Put your phone to download download mode. To do that press vol down + home + power.
7. Now your phone should be in download mode. Plug it to computer (make sure odin is still open)
8. Click PDA tab and choose Semaphore_2.7.4.tar.
9. Click start
10. Wait
11. Wait more and then there should read Success! in odin
12. Now you can disconnect the phone.
13. Finish!
Now we are ready to install a custom ROM!
First you need to download a ROM. I recommend Cyanogenmod because it is popular, it has many features and it is stable. Here's the link http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/49867/cm-10.2.0-galaxysmtd.zip
1. Download the ROM.
2. Put it to your phone's internal sd-card
3. Download gapps http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
4. Put it to your phone's sd-card
5. Reboot to recovery (vol up + home + power)
6. Wipe data/factory reset
7. Wipe cache
8. Advanced > wipe dalvik cache
9. Install zip from sd-card
10. Choose zip from sd-card
11. Select cm-10.2.0-galaxysmtd.zip
12. Confirm
13. Wait
14. Wait more
15. Wait even more
16. Go back
17. Don't reboot
18. Install zip from sd-card
19. Choose zip from sd-card
20. Choose gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
21. Confirm
22. Wait
23. Reboot
Now it's ready! You made it! You rooted and updated your phone. Be proud!
This is not correct guide.
Why?

Hi,
Today i'm going to show you how to root and update your Galaxy S.
In this guide we flash custom kernel and rom.
First you need to be sure that you have 2.3.6 XXJW4.
You can check it by going to settings > about phone > and there's baseband version.
If you have JW4 you can skip to rooting part.
If you don't have JW4, you need to flash it.
Installing JW4
1. You need the drivers. For 32 bit(x86) Windows http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml and for 64 bit(x64) Windows
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
2.Download the firmware http://www.hotfile.com/dl/150483619/708026d/I9000XXJW4_I9000OXAJW4_XEU.zip.html
3. Then you need extract the downloaded file I9000XXJW4_I9000OXAJW4_XEU.zip (from step 2) to any folder, you will get these 2 files:
JW4_JW4_JW4.tar
SS_DL.dll (ignore this file)
4. Download Odin which we will be using to flash XXJW4 on the phone. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?06v1nznuk3ng7gw
5. Disconnect your phone if it’s connected to PC. Then switch it off. Wait 5-6 seconds for vibration to confirm complete switch off.
6. Boot into recovery. To do this, press and hold the Volume_UP + Home + Power till the screen turns on, then let them go. You will boot into recovery soon enough.
7. Then, use the volume keys to navigate and the home/power key to select options, select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm. After the data wipe is complete, remove and re-insert the battery, but don’t power it back on.
8. Put the Galaxy S in Download Mode. To do that press and hold these keys together: Volume down + Home + Power until a screen saying Download Mode comes up.
9. Open Odin (downloaded in step 4) — Odin3 v1.7.exe.
10. Connect your phone to PC now. You should get the message “Added!!” under Odin’s message box in the bottom left. If you don’t get this message, then probably there is a problem with drivers. Make sure you’ve proper drivers installed.
11. Now, in Odin, click the PDA Tab, and select the file JW4_JW4_JW4.tar
12. Important! Do not touch any other button or make any other changes in Odin except selecting the required file as given in step 11.
13. Now, hit the START button to begin the flashing process. When it finishes, your phone will automatically reboot, upon which you can unplug the cable. Plus, you’ll get a PASS (with green background) message in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin.
IMPORTANT Note: If ODIN gets stuck at some stage and doesn’t seem to be doing anything, do this — disconnect the phone from the PC, close ODIN, remove battery, re-insert it, turn phone on in Download mode again, and do the procedure again from Step 9. Same if you get a FAIL message in Odin.
14. Finish!
Now the rooting part.
1.Download CF-Root http://download.chainfire.eu/155/CF-Root/SGS/CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.zip
2. Unzip the file and you get a tar file. It may look like a zip file but it is not. So do not extract the tar file.
3. Open Odin (if you don't have it download it from section 4 in installing part)
4. Switch off the phone and wait for vibration. When it vibrates it is completely off
5. Make sure you have drivers (JW4 installing section 1)
6. Put your phone to download download mode. To do that press vol down + home + power.
7. Now your phone should be in download mode. Plug it to computer (make sure odin is still open)
8. Click PDA tab and choose CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.tar.
9. Click start
10. Wait
11. Wait more and then there should read Success! in odin
12. Now you can disconnect the phone.
13. Finish!
Now we are ready to install a custom ROM!
First you need to download a ROM. I recommend Cyanogenmod because it is popular, it has many features and it is stable. Here is link http://get.cm/get/3qH
1. Download the ROM.
2. Put it to your phone's internal sd-card
3. Download gapps http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
4. Put it to your phone's sd-card
5. Reboot to recovery (vol up + home + power)
6. Wipe data/factory reset
7. Wipe cache
8. Advanced > wipe dalvik cache
9. Install zip from sd-card
10. Choose zip from sd-card
11. Select cm-9.0.0-galaxysmtd.zip
12. Confirm
13. Wait
14. Wait more
15. Wait even more
16. Go back
17. Don't reboot
18. Install zip from sd-card
19. Choose zip from sd-card
20. Choose gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
21. Confirm
22. Wait
23. Reboot
Now it's ready! You made it! You rooted and updated your phone. Be proud!

here are the reason:
1. While installing jw4 in step 6 you have ask to boot in recovery and recovery only available when you have flashed a kernel which supports it.
2. If i already have recovery them why i should flash jw4 again and then again root it and flash the ics.
3. You have asked to put rom in internal sdcard and gapps in sdacrd... they should both be in same card else a new user might get confuse.
4. You haven't mention if user ends in bootloop what should he do?
I think this guide is just fine , go make your one if there's a problem^. Good job OP.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
I meant to write internal sd card for gapps and my sgs had stock recovery without root.
Have you ever heard about android stock recovery 3e?
And i forgot to write what to do if bootloop And fortunately nobody asked what to do if bootloop and if someone asks, i'll reply and explain what to do.

bakcup /efs
I didn't acutally read the whole thing so I don't know wether it's corret or not, but I think you should definitly advise the user to backup the /efs folder to prevent issues with IMEI/baseband.
(searched your guide for /efs and didn't find it anywhere)

boot loop
Hi,
I followed the entire guide and after getting and "Encryption Unsuccessful" -> Reset to Factory, I got a boot loop.
Any ideas on how I could fix this?
Thanks for the guide
Nash
--
UPDATE: Fixed the boot loop but still don't know why it happened. Can you shed a light? Still on 2.3
Thanks!
Nash
Were you flashing the Rom or gapps before getting the encryption error? It's possible that the zip files are corrupted or they have some errors. Try to redownload the files.
Thanks for your reply, but i want to know if that works with my phones stock rom
CF-Root is is available for almost every Samsung SGS stock rom(maybe for every stock rom) so you just need to tell me your baseband and i'll give instructions to do that for your ROM.
What if I still have Froyo installed? Where can I find instructions to upgrade to Gingerbread?
See the ''installing JW4'' section

I have this exact problem...I have followed the instructions to the T, Now my phone is just "bootlooping". Please can you tell me what to do?
Thanks in advance
Factory reset and try flashing again.
Uhh why don't you just suggest an odin flash of Darky's rom, then a CWM flash of CM9 then CM10. That would be a lot quicker and easier to read and explain.
it's a good guide, thanks

[Q] Is my phone stuck forever?

Hello Xda Devs. I'm really new to android phones (I just switched from windows phone lately to try on low end android phone first). Since I heard that rooting are pretty awesome, I tried to root my phone by following these steps that I found over the net.
"This stage will be done on your phone so, switch your PC off.
1) Open Settings, go to Applications then Development and check USB Debugging.
2) Now reboot your phone and press VOL Up + Home + Power together during the booting.
3) The Recovery Mode will be opened. If you do not see the recovery mode then try the method no. 2 again.
4) In recovery mode use the Vol Up and Down buttons to navigate and the Home button to select.
5) Now select “Install Zip from SD card.”
6) Then select “Choose Zip from SD card” and find out and select the Zip previously downloaded.
7) The download process will start and will take more than 10 minutes.
8) After the completion of the update follow the next steps on recovery mode.
9) Then select “Wipe Data/Factory Reset”.
10) Now enable “Wipe Cache Partition”.
11) After that select “++++Go Back++++”
12) Reboot the phone and you shall get it rooted. "
I skipped Step 9 to 11. [Note: I didn't wipe out any data to prevent any data loss through the process). I followed the steps and managed to root my phone.
Then, I tried to download ICS for my SGY by following steps on another blog to change my phone to ICS. The steps given are :
"Process to Download Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 for Galaxy Y
Download Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 from here.
-Transfer this file to your Samsung Galaxy Y. It can be done by connecting device with computer via USB cable.
-If you are done with above, then next step is to boot your device to Recovery Mode. It can be done by pressing Volume Up +Volume Down + Power buttons together. Soon, an Android logo will surface on your device’s screen. This is the proof that you are in the Recovery Mode.
-Now navigate to the option that reads “install zip from SD card”. Don’t know how to navigate? Use Volume Keys!
-In the list that comes up, select the ROM file that you downloaded in the first step.
-Confirm the installation, and then wait for it to get finished.
-Go to main menu and select ‘reboot system now’.
-Your Samsung Galaxy Y will restart now. "
So far so good, then when it restart, my phone stuck on the animation mode. (Cynogenmod 9 animation).
Other than what I mention above, I did not install anything else and now I'm really confused. I'll attach a picture of the animation that I said. Please help. Thanks.
Before installing any custom rom u should always wipe data.

i did this too and need a full day to download 1.100 MB (very slow server if u don't have premium account @ sammobile)
Next Step go to recovery mode and wipe everything (maybe not needed but i do this for safety)
u need samsung usb driver and Odin Flash program
Start Odin (i use odin3 1.85) click "PDA" and choose your ROM File
be sure that ONLY "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" is checked nothing more in Options
Now boot your Phone into Download Mode (power+home+volume down) and connect it to your PC USB
Odin should show now in the left bottom message box that your Phone is connected!
Press Start and wait (5-10 minutes)
your phone should restart automatic after successfully flash
Done

[Q] How to use the Custom ROM on N9005 LP 5.0

Hi ALL,
Good day!
I'm new in an Android Phone and just Rooted my device yesterday using the KingRoot.
I just wondering how to use a custom ROM available here in XDA in my Samsung Note III.
If there's a link on where I can review or follow the procedure, could you please redirect me.
I've already looked/searched for it but unfortunately, I can't get the answers on my own.
thanks in advance!
Mark

You choose a custom rom you read and understand the rom and its instructions then flash .
Many roms have how to videos .
Basics
Download the Rom
Enter Recovery Mode
Do a Full Wipe
Install The Rom
Reboot - The first boot can take up to 10 min

thanks for your kindness.. :good:
Is there any link also in doing the flash.. (apology for spoon feeding)
I just don't know how or where to start.. lol
TIA!
First step should be install a custom recovery. For example TWRP. You can't install with stock recovery.
Google : twrp for note 3 xda
Then read, read and install it.
Here is the link, you can see video.

Find a rom i development forums here and look for instructions there.
Steps....
-1. I am not responsible for any damage caused. This is how I learned and what I taught my friends using Sammy.
0. Backup all your data to SD card or PC.
1. go to https://twrp.me/Devices/ and search your device model and download the latest .tar file (something like 4.4.tar)
2. search download and install Kies in your PC, this is for getting all Samsung drivers.
3. search download and extract "odin 3.0.9" in a folder in your pc.
4. press Volume Down + Home + Power and get into Download mode (you'll have to press Volume Up if it asks to continue)
5. Now phone will show "Downloading", Run "Odin.exe" from odin folder and Connect your phone to PC via USB cable.
6. Odin will detect your phone in blue color in first slot, select the downloaded .tar file in Odin and click start
7. do not disconnect the phone as it will restart.
8. after restarting, remove phone. then shutdown.. press Volume Up + Home + power and get into recovery. (TWRP) (click Reboot System and use as normal)
9. Download your favorite (flashable zip of) ROM, click Wipe (select all in TWRP, will erase all data)
10. After successful wipe, click install, select ROM zip from SD card and follow onscreen instructions.
11. After install, go to Wipe or Advanced Wipe and "Clear Dalvik Cache"
12. Reboot System. Enjoy
