[Q] How to use the Custom ROM on N9005 LP 5.0 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi ALL,
Good day!
I'm new in an Android Phone and just Rooted my device yesterday using the KingRoot.
I just wondering how to use a custom ROM available here in XDA in my Samsung Note III.
If there's a link on where I can review or follow the procedure, could you please redirect me.
I've already looked/searched for it but unfortunately, I can't get the answers on my own.
thanks in advance!
Mark

You choose a custom rom you read and understand the rom and its instructions then flash .
Many roms have how to videos .
Basics
Download the Rom
Enter Recovery Mode
Do a Full Wipe
Install The Rom
Reboot - The first boot can take up to 10 min

thanks for your kindness.. :good:
Is there any link also in doing the flash.. (apology for spoon feeding)
I just don't know how or where to start.. lol
TIA!

First step should be install a custom recovery. For example TWRP. You can't install with stock recovery.
Google : twrp for note 3 xda
Then read, read and install it.
Here is the link, you can see video.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494245
Find a rom i development forums here and look for instructions there.

Steps....
-1. I am not responsible for any damage caused. This is how I learned and what I taught my friends using Sammy.
0. Backup all your data to SD card or PC.
1. go to https://twrp.me/Devices/ and search your device model and download the latest .tar file (something like 4.4.tar)
2. search download and install Kies in your PC, this is for getting all Samsung drivers.
3. search download and extract "odin 3.0.9" in a folder in your pc.
4. press Volume Down + Home + Power and get into Download mode (you'll have to press Volume Up if it asks to continue)
5. Now phone will show "Downloading", Run "Odin.exe" from odin folder and Connect your phone to PC via USB cable.
6. Odin will detect your phone in blue color in first slot, select the downloaded .tar file in Odin and click start
7. do not disconnect the phone as it will restart.
8. after restarting, remove phone. then shutdown.. press Volume Up + Home + power and get into recovery. (TWRP) (click Reboot System and use as normal)
9. Download your favorite (flashable zip of) ROM, click Wipe (select all in TWRP, will erase all data)
10. After successful wipe, click install, select ROM zip from SD card and follow onscreen instructions.
11. After install, go to Wipe or Advanced Wipe and "Clear Dalvik Cache"
12. Reboot System. Enjoy

[GUIDE] How to root and update your Galaxy S to Jelly Bean

This guide shows you how to root and install a ROM.
I am NOT responsible for bricked devices or dead sd cards etc.
Hi,
Today i'm going to show you how to root and update your Galaxy S.
In this guide we flash custom kernel and rom.
But first, remember the drivers http://www.filefactory.com/file/3nhyqmo40111/n/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.zip
Now the rooting part.
1.Download Semaphore kernel http://semaphore.gr/downloads Choose the first one. (Semaphore_2.7.4.tar)
2. It may look like a zip file but it is not. So do not extract the tar file.
3. Open Odin (if you don't have it download it from http://ul.to/o2xcp01n )
4. Switch off the phone and wait for vibration. When it vibrates it is completely off
5. Make sure you have drivers.
6. Put your phone to download download mode. To do that press vol down + home + power.
7. Now your phone should be in download mode. Plug it to computer (make sure odin is still open)
8. Click PDA tab and choose Semaphore_2.7.4.tar.
9. Click start
10. Wait
11. Wait more and then there should read Success! in odin
12. Now you can disconnect the phone.
13. Finish!
Now we are ready to install a custom ROM!
First you need to download a ROM. I recommend Cyanogenmod because it is popular, it has many features and it is stable. Here's the link http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/49867/cm-10.2.0-galaxysmtd.zip
1. Download the ROM.
2. Put it to your phone's internal sd-card
3. Download gapps http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
4. Put it to your phone's sd-card
5. Reboot to recovery (vol up + home + power)
6. Wipe data/factory reset
7. Wipe cache
8. Advanced > wipe dalvik cache
9. Install zip from sd-card
10. Choose zip from sd-card
11. Select cm-10.2.0-galaxysmtd.zip
12. Confirm
13. Wait
14. Wait more
15. Wait even more
16. Go back
17. Don't reboot
18. Install zip from sd-card
19. Choose zip from sd-card
20. Choose gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
21. Confirm
22. Wait
23. Reboot
Now it's ready! You made it! You rooted and updated your phone. Be proud!
This is not correct guide.

Hi,
Today i'm going to show you how to root and update your Galaxy S.
In this guide we flash custom kernel and rom.
First you need to be sure that you have 2.3.6 XXJW4.
You can check it by going to settings > about phone > and there's baseband version.
If you have JW4 you can skip to rooting part.
If you don't have JW4, you need to flash it.
Installing JW4
1. You need the drivers. For 32 bit(x86) Windows http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml and for 64 bit(x64) Windows
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
2.Download the firmware http://www.hotfile.com/dl/150483619/708026d/I9000XXJW4_I9000OXAJW4_XEU.zip.html
3. Then you need extract the downloaded file I9000XXJW4_I9000OXAJW4_XEU.zip (from step 2) to any folder, you will get these 2 files:
JW4_JW4_JW4.tar
SS_DL.dll (ignore this file)
4. Download Odin which we will be using to flash XXJW4 on the phone. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?06v1nznuk3ng7gw
5. Disconnect your phone if it’s connected to PC. Then switch it off. Wait 5-6 seconds for vibration to confirm complete switch off.
6. Boot into recovery. To do this, press and hold the Volume_UP + Home + Power till the screen turns on, then let them go. You will boot into recovery soon enough.
7. Then, use the volume keys to navigate and the home/power key to select options, select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm. After the data wipe is complete, remove and re-insert the battery, but don’t power it back on.
8. Put the Galaxy S in Download Mode. To do that press and hold these keys together: Volume down + Home + Power until a screen saying Download Mode comes up.
9. Open Odin (downloaded in step 4) — Odin3 v1.7.exe.
10. Connect your phone to PC now. You should get the message “Added!!” under Odin’s message box in the bottom left. If you don’t get this message, then probably there is a problem with drivers. Make sure you’ve proper drivers installed.
11. Now, in Odin, click the PDA Tab, and select the file JW4_JW4_JW4.tar
12. Important! Do not touch any other button or make any other changes in Odin except selecting the required file as given in step 11.
13. Now, hit the START button to begin the flashing process. When it finishes, your phone will automatically reboot, upon which you can unplug the cable. Plus, you’ll get a PASS (with green background) message in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin.
IMPORTANT Note: If ODIN gets stuck at some stage and doesn’t seem to be doing anything, do this — disconnect the phone from the PC, close ODIN, remove battery, re-insert it, turn phone on in Download mode again, and do the procedure again from Step 9. Same if you get a FAIL message in Odin.
14. Finish!
Now the rooting part.
1.Download CF-Root http://download.chainfire.eu/155/CF-Root/SGS/CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.zip
2. Unzip the file and you get a tar file. It may look like a zip file but it is not. So do not extract the tar file.
3. Open Odin (if you don't have it download it from section 4 in installing part)
4. Switch off the phone and wait for vibration. When it vibrates it is completely off
5. Make sure you have drivers (JW4 installing section 1)
6. Put your phone to download download mode. To do that press vol down + home + power.
7. Now your phone should be in download mode. Plug it to computer (make sure odin is still open)
8. Click PDA tab and choose CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.tar.
9. Click start
10. Wait
11. Wait more and then there should read Success! in odin
12. Now you can disconnect the phone.
13. Finish!
Now we are ready to install a custom ROM!
First you need to download a ROM. I recommend Cyanogenmod because it is popular, it has many features and it is stable. Here is link http://get.cm/get/3qH
1. Download the ROM.
2. Put it to your phone's internal sd-card
3. Download gapps http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
4. Put it to your phone's sd-card
5. Reboot to recovery (vol up + home + power)
6. Wipe data/factory reset
7. Wipe cache
8. Advanced > wipe dalvik cache
9. Install zip from sd-card
10. Choose zip from sd-card
11. Select cm-9.0.0-galaxysmtd.zip
12. Confirm
13. Wait
14. Wait more
15. Wait even more
16. Go back
17. Don't reboot
18. Install zip from sd-card
19. Choose zip from sd-card
20. Choose gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
21. Confirm
22. Wait
23. Reboot
Now it's ready! You made it! You rooted and updated your phone. Be proud!

here are the reason:
1. While installing jw4 in step 6 you have ask to boot in recovery and recovery only available when you have flashed a kernel which supports it.
2. If i already have recovery them why i should flash jw4 again and then again root it and flash the ics.
3. You have asked to put rom in internal sdcard and gapps in sdacrd... they should both be in same card else a new user might get confuse.
4. You haven't mention if user ends in bootloop what should he do?
I think this guide is just fine , go make your one if there's a problem^. Good job OP.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
I meant to write internal sd card for gapps and my sgs had stock recovery without root.
Have you ever heard about android stock recovery 3e?
And i forgot to write what to do if bootloop And fortunately nobody asked what to do if bootloop and if someone asks, i'll reply and explain what to do.

bakcup /efs
I didn't acutally read the whole thing so I don't know wether it's corret or not, but I think you should definitly advise the user to backup the /efs folder to prevent issues with IMEI/baseband.
(searched your guide for /efs and didn't find it anywhere)

I can create my own guide however did not want to have one more thread on the thing which is already there a lots of time rather than I will spread the already present guides.
boot loop
Hi,
I followed the entire guide and after getting and "Encryption Unsuccessful" -> Reset to Factory, I got a boot loop.
Any ideas on how I could fix this?
Thanks for the guide
Nash
--
UPDATE: Fixed the boot loop but still don't know why it happened. Can you shed a light? Still on 2.3
Thanks!
Nash
Were you flashing the Rom or gapps before getting the encryption error? It's possible that the zip files are corrupted or they have some errors. Try to redownload the files.
Thanks for your reply, but i want to know if that works with my phones stock rom
CF-Root is is available for almost every Samsung SGS stock rom(maybe for every stock rom) so you just need to tell me your baseband and i'll give instructions to do that for your ROM.
What if I still have Froyo installed? Where can I find instructions to upgrade to Gingerbread?
See the ''installing JW4'' section

I have this exact problem...I have followed the instructions to the T, Now my phone is just "bootlooping". Please can you tell me what to do?
Thanks in advance
Factory reset and try flashing again.
Uhh why don't you just suggest an odin flash of Darky's rom, then a CWM flash of CM9 then CM10. That would be a lot quicker and easier to read and explain.
it's a good guide, thanks

[Q] Is my phone stuck forever?

Hello Xda Devs. I'm really new to android phones (I just switched from windows phone lately to try on low end android phone first). Since I heard that rooting are pretty awesome, I tried to root my phone by following these steps that I found over the net.
"This stage will be done on your phone so, switch your PC off.
1) Open Settings, go to Applications then Development and check USB Debugging.
2) Now reboot your phone and press VOL Up + Home + Power together during the booting.
3) The Recovery Mode will be opened. If you do not see the recovery mode then try the method no. 2 again.
4) In recovery mode use the Vol Up and Down buttons to navigate and the Home button to select.
5) Now select “Install Zip from SD card.”
6) Then select “Choose Zip from SD card” and find out and select the Zip previously downloaded.
7) The download process will start and will take more than 10 minutes.
8) After the completion of the update follow the next steps on recovery mode.
9) Then select “Wipe Data/Factory Reset”.
10) Now enable “Wipe Cache Partition”.
11) After that select “++++Go Back++++”
12) Reboot the phone and you shall get it rooted. "
I skipped Step 9 to 11. [Note: I didn't wipe out any data to prevent any data loss through the process). I followed the steps and managed to root my phone.
Then, I tried to download ICS for my SGY by following steps on another blog to change my phone to ICS. The steps given are :
"Process to Download Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 for Galaxy Y
Download Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 from here.
-Transfer this file to your Samsung Galaxy Y. It can be done by connecting device with computer via USB cable.
-If you are done with above, then next step is to boot your device to Recovery Mode. It can be done by pressing Volume Up +Volume Down + Power buttons together. Soon, an Android logo will surface on your device’s screen. This is the proof that you are in the Recovery Mode.
-Now navigate to the option that reads “install zip from SD card”. Don’t know how to navigate? Use Volume Keys!
-In the list that comes up, select the ROM file that you downloaded in the first step.
-Confirm the installation, and then wait for it to get finished.
-Go to main menu and select ‘reboot system now’.
-Your Samsung Galaxy Y will restart now. "
So far so good, then when it restart, my phone stuck on the animation mode. (Cynogenmod 9 animation).
Other than what I mention above, I did not install anything else and now I'm really confused. I'll attach a picture of the animation that I said. Please help. Thanks.
Before installing any custom rom u should always wipe data.

To start off with we have no official ics for our device
there is cm9 but nothing works on it other than it boots
next to install any custom rom
go into cwm
wipe data wipe cache wipe system
Mount data mount cache mount system
flash rom zip
some roms for example cm7 require a specific kernel like percy#2 and extra steps
follow any instructions on the op of rom thread

Things u can do now
1-Flash Stock rom via odin,it will make ur phone as a fresh newly bought phone (browse for odin flash guide and stock firmware for galaxy y)
2-the easiest thing-Flash CM9 kernel I.e white kernel via odin.....and then ics will surely boot on ur sgy
^ is of no use bcoz ics cm9 has got many bugs its yet to be stable
Phew! That was a long explaination........
I need cookies now....I am hungry.....

[GUIDE][COMPLETE][GT-i8190/L/N] How to flash Custom ROMs & Unbrick.

Hello guys,
i have decided to make a complete (as compete as possible) guide about flashing Custom ROMs because i didnt find any for our device.
I will try to keep this guide as clear as possible for better understanding and quick flashing!THE FOLLOWING METHODS HAVE BEEN TESTED A LOT OF TIMES, IN DIFFERENT DEVICES, AND THE RESULTS WERE SUCCESFULL!

PRE-REQUIREMENTS (INCLUDING CUSTOM RECOVERY AND ODIN METHODS):
1) Drivers. Here you can find the most recent(As updated from the site owner)driver package for your device (skip this step if you have already installed them). Download
2) A device with TWRP recovery installed. (If you want to flash your ROM via custom recovery)
If it happens that your device is not rooted, you can follow the ODIN method mentioned down below or you can follow this guide on how to flash a TWRP recovery!
3) ODIN. (If you want to flash your ROM via computer)
4) IMPORTANT: Make sure your battery is at least 90% charged!
5) OPTIONAL: Make sure your have downloaded the lattest GAPPS.zip.
6) OPTIONAL: Make sure your have downloaded the lattest SUPERSU.zip.
7) Some patience.

CUSTOM RECOVERY METHODS
NOTE: In the following methods i will be using TWRP as custom recovery.
NOTE: The following methods are completely different from each other, thus you should NOT try to mix them.
METHOD NO.1 (The clean installation) RECOMMENDEDIt is recomended but not necessary to perform a FORMAT DATA wipe before wiping the bellow partitions.
As you may have heard the clean installation, is a method that wipes all your device's DALVIK CACHE, SYSTEM, CACHE, DATA and INTERNAL STORAGE partitions.
YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MAKING THE PHONE UNSUABLE.
By wiping SYSTEM partition, you only wipe the old ROM's files. The new ROM will genarate new proper files.
By wiping DALVIK CACHE and CACHE, you just clean the old " mess" of installed apps etc.
By wiping INTERNAL STORAGE and DATA you DO delete all of your personal files, apps, phone contacts etc.
WIPE PROCEDURE
1) From the main menu of the TWRP press the Wipe button.
If you dont want to follow the step 2 go to step 4.
2) OPTIONAL BUT RECOMENDED: Then press the Format Data button.
2a) Go back.
2b) From the main menu of the TWRP press the Reboot button.
2c) Then press the Recovery button.
After that your device will reboot by it self into recovery mode, continue.
3) From the main menu of the TWRP press the Wipe button.
4) Then press the Advanced Wipe button.
5) Tick the Dalvik Cache, System, Cache, Data, Internal Storage.
BE CAREFULL, DO NOT WIPE your Micro SD Card! Otherwise you will not be able to install your ROM.
6) Swipe to Wipe.
7) DONE!
INSTALL PROCEDURE
1) From the main menu of the TWRP press the Install button.
2) Browse to your micro sd card.
3) Find the ROM.zip file you want to install.
4) Press on it.
5) Then Swipe to Confirm Flash.
OPTIONAL STEPS FOR GAPPS PACKAGE. IF YOU DONT WANT TO INSTALL IT CONTINUE TO STEP 8
6a) From the main menu of the TWRP press the Install button.
6b) Browse to your micro sd card.
6c) Find your gapps.zip package.
6d) Press on it.
6e) Then Swipe to Confirm Flash.
OPTIONAL STEPS FOR SUPERSU PACKAGE. IF YOU DONT WANT TO INSTALL IT CONTINUE TO STEP 8
7a) From the main menu of the TWRP press the Install button.
7b) Browse to your micro sd card.
7c) Find your supersu.zip package.
7d) Press on it.
7e) Then Swipe to Confirm Flash.
8) After the installation is done, press the Reboot System button that will show up on the screen.
9) DONE!
METHOD NO.2 (The "dirty" installation) NOT RECOMENDEDWith this method you DO NOT wipe your INTERNAL STORAGE nor your DATA. You only wipe the absolutely unnecessary files from the old rom so the new rom can genarate new ones.
As you may have heard the "dirty" installation, is a method that only wipes DALVIK CACHE and CACHE.
By wiping DALVIK CACHE and CACHE, you just clean the old " mess" of installed apps etc.
NOTE: THE WIPE PROCEDURE MUST BE APPLYED BEFORE AND AFTER THE INSTALLATION
WIPE PROCEDURE
1) From the main menu of the TWRP press the Wipe button.

8) From the main menu of the TWRP press the Reboot button
9) Then press the System button.
10) DONE!
ODIN METHOD
NOTE: With the following method you can't install Gapps. If you wish to install GApps you must install them with a custom recovery and by following the FLASH USING CUSTOM RECOVERY METHODS post. Same goes for the super su.

2) Connect the device to the computer.
3) Open Odin on the computer.
4) Check if your device is being recognised on the top left of the Odin window. There should be displayed something like (e.x. 0:[COM3]). (If nothing is displayed, you propably didn't install the Drivers or you installed the wrong ones)
5) Make sure that only Auto Reboot and F.Reset time are ticked.
6) Press ONLY the PDA button.
7) Browse to your downloaded file (e.x. ROM.tar.md5).
8) Select it.
9) Press Start.
10) Wait untill the device reboots and on the top left is displayed one green box saying PASS!.
11) Unplug the device from the computer.

13) Wait 5 secs and then put it back again.
14) Boot into recovery mode. (In order to do so, press Volume Up (+), Homebutton and the Power-Button at the same time untill you see the S3 Mini Logo, then release the Power-Button and keep pressing Volume Up (+) and the Homebutton)
15) Wipe data/factory reset.
16) Wipe Cache partition.
17) Press reboot system now.
18) DONE!
UNBRICK
NOTE: Please be sure that your device is bricked. To know if your device is bricked, your device should not boot into your current ROM at all and at some cases not even on (Custom) recovery. In other words you suffer from what is called bootloop.
If you are able to boot into your already flashed custom recovery use the FLASH USING CUSTOM RECOVERY METHODS and flash your custom ROM to regain access to the phone.
If you can not boot into your custom recovery but you can boot in download mode the problem is repairable. Be sure that you have the original recovery installed before you flash the Stock ROM because some roms don't include it and it may cause some issues.
If you can not even boot in download mode then your device is hard bricked and you must use an usb jig in order to make your device boot into download mode(ONLY) again. If at the end, you still can not boot into download mode then there is nothing you can do from a software-side
Download the stock rom you need form here: www.sammobile.com and unzip it on your computer.
UNBRICK PROCEDURE
1) Boot into Download mode. (In order to do so, press Volume Down (-), Homebutton and the Power-Button at the same time untill you see the Green warning screen. Then press the Volume Up).
2) Connect the device to the computer.
3) Open Odin on the computer.

15) Wipe data/factory reset.
16) Wipe Cache partition.
17) Press reboot system now.
18) DONE!
If everything went as it should you should now have stock rom with stock recovery installed.

The most known and safe (in a way) method is flashing your ROM with a Custom Recovery which i highly recommend [also you dont mess alot with the binary counter that way(if you dont know what this is , please google it)], but if you want to go with the Odin method that's ok with me.
About GApps: In actually fact you can't flash GApps with Odin. GApps were created only be to flashed with a Custom Recovery(whether this is TWRP or CWM).
My suggestions are that after you flash your desired ROM with the Odin method there are two options:
1)You flash a Custom Recovery via Odin and then you use the guide from above(FLASH USING CUSTOM RECOVERY METHODS) and only follow the steps from 6a to 6e and then only the 8th step.
About the Root Access after flashing with Odin: That depends only from ROM that you flashed. If you want root access and your ROM does not support native Root Access you must install a custom recovery and from there flash the supersu.zip file.
NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE:After you flashed your rom via Odin (and taking into consideration that you dont have a custom recovery) you should enable ROM's native root access managment tool. From there you can experiment as you like.
I hope i helped good luck and play it safe .

Really you cant define which one is the best. All of the roms that have been ported/created from our developers here, are great. It really depends on your personal liking.

Fusionkat ROM is a stock rom, so in order to flash it you have to use the odin method from the guide that i wrote on this page. Stock roms can only be flashed with Odin.
Hi btw can i flash rom for i8190 for i8190n?
I think its better if dalvik cache & cache will be cleaned again after installation and before rebooting the system in the Clean Installation

I think it makes no difference since you delete every thing and also reboot the device after you wiped.

If you dont have a rooted device and you want to install a custom rom, you can use the Odin Method. Consider that i don't recommend this type of thing. It is way better to have at least a custom recovery, then you can do whatever you want on your device. Best of luck
Thank you very much for the guide. I am new to flashing ROMs/rooting my phone and such (but I've done a whole lot of reading and I think I'm about up to speed, seems like fun stuff!) but I was just wondering if there is any way to do this using the Odin method BUT without having to download TWRP?? I have a mad nasty virus on here called pornclub (yet I don't actually watch any porn on my phone, if ever at all (gofigure! :| ...))
This virus started out just trying to download apps while I was connected to the internet and firing up popups for different supermarket stores etc, which was bare-able, but I done a factory reset on the thing and now it seems like the virus is back- and with a vengeance!!! It completely fills the whole phone with popups saying 'hot sexy girls now' etc and downloading so many different silly apps that I can't actually even use any function on the phone any more. So that means no phonecalls, texts, anything, it literally takes over the whole phone with these apps and pictures of all the 'sexy sluts' I can apparently go and meet right now. I also obviously cannot download TWRP or anything else for that matter.
So do I have any silver lining to my boob shaped cloud? Just need to know if there is any way I can just flash a new custom mod without having to download anything on the actual phone at this point, as I have just done a factory reset and now cannot access any functions on there because of popups etc.
Thank you very much kindly in advance for any help. Much appreciated!
edit: I should mention that it now also switches on the wifi and mobile data simultaneously without me even touching it. I currently have the phone sitting on download mode and charging.

Wow you seem to be in trouble but we can FIX it!
First of all i need you to have your battery charged to 100%.( if you cant charge your phone while its on, remove the battery and charge it to another phone or charge it with an external battery charger )
Power off your phone.
With the 3 button compination, go to your current(stock for you i think) recovery and do a factory reset. This will wipe all your data thus the virus.
After all this, boot into your rom.
Then you can flash a custom recovery and flash any rom you want.
You are done!
If this does not work for you, just let me know and i will post another solution.(i am not posting it right now cause it is more complicated!)
EDIT: Sorry for the delay but i didnt saw that you had already done a factory reset and it didnt work. That means that the virus is propably on the sd card. The solution is to wipe your sdcard and use the odin method. As simple as that. Please next time try to keep the things you tried and what is your problem together.

Oops, sorry about that. Thank you for the reply.
I took the sd card out a long time ago but the problem is still there somehow. When I switch on the phone, I have about seconds before I can no longer use it because of popups etc...
Also, I just checked and it seems like I joined these forums on the exact same date as you but 1 year later, we both joined on the 18th of January.

Yes, you can flash back to a stock Samsung ROM using Odin. I recommend downloading the stock ROM and keep it on your computer so you can flash back to stock when required.

Well I tried to use that rom but I had some problem with that due to which I got to reflash stock firmware. Whenever I tried to install rom using TWRP my phone rebooted and get stuck on note 3 logo.
Friends, I was unable to install Phronesis rom. The steps that I followed are given below.
1) Downloaded Phronesis v6.2 rom from OP and copied it to SD Card.
2) Booted into TWRP recovery.
3) Selected "Wipe" option in the recovery menu.
4) Selected Advanced wipe.
5) From this menu I selected system, data, cache and delvit/art cache.
6) After selecting above options I swiped to wipe.
7) After this I went back to main recovery Menu.
8) From recovery menu I selected Install.
9) From here I chose Phronesis v6.2 rom from SD card storage.
10) Installation started and a bar started to load on the bottom of screen.
And after a few seconds (10 to 30 sec) my phone restated and stuck on note 3 logo.
At the end I didn't have any option but to re-flash stock firmware using odin.
It is the horror story of my note 3.
Please tell me where I have done wrong.

1. Boot into recovery (say TWRP) Please read Q&A re TWRP .
2. Select wipe in recovery menu
3. Select Advanced Wipe
4. From the resulting window, select to wipe system, data, cache and dalvik cache (of course after backing up your rom / data)
5. Swipe to wipe the selected partitions.
That's recovery wipe completed.
Recovery install zip .
In Aroma menu when you get to option to wipe, select:
1. Select "Full Wipe" radio button
2. Select "Full wipe 1" radio button
3. Select your CSC as desired
4. Continue making other choices as you like....
Sir i am trying to follow this guide given in OP in Phronesis Rom thread. I successfully followed this guide till recovery wipe. But unfortunately it is not going into aroma installer.?
Then its a failed download of the rom .
Install zip should lead to a start of the rom install and aroma with options .
Suggest you stop posting multiple threads its to hard to follow .

Thanks. And sorry for multiple threads. I will download that rom again.
Should I put rom file in internal memory of note 3 or I should put it in SD card?
SD Card .
Tried by redownloading the rom but still I can not enter aroma installer.
What is MD5?
The lollipop that I am currently installing my note 3 is "N9005ZSUGOL1_N9005OZSGOL1_N9005ZSUGOL1_HOME.tar.md5" via odin.
Is there any other way to make my stock rom more significant without installing custom rom?
Upgrade is almost complete. I will root soon after completion.
After trying many times, I don't want to install this rom anymore. Thanks every one for help. XDA is really amazing.

Some confusion about flashing a custom ROM

Hello,
I have some difficulty understanding the tutorials on how to simply install a custom Android Oreo ROM along with GApps. I noticed there are some differences between them which confuses me.
I have a non-rooted Samsung S4 i9505 with the stock Samsung Touchwiz. I don't have any SD card and I want to install the custom ROM without a PC.. Here are my questions:
1. Tutorials say that I have to root my device before installing a custom ROM while people in threads say that it is not needed. Do I have to root the device or not?
2. Is the next step to unlock bootloader?
3. Do I then have to install TWRP? Or is it not necessary and do I simply have to put the ROM's and GApp's .zip files in the internal memory of my phone and boot into recovery mode?

1- Does your phone have a locked or unlocked bootloader?
2- You don't need root to install a custom rom.
3- You need to install a custom recovery like "TWRP" or "PhilzTouch".
4- External storage like SD Card or OTG USB is recommended but not must.
None of the Samsung s4 phones have a locked bootloader except the s4 sold by USA carriers.
I do not recommend using Philz to flash a custom ROM as Philz is based on CWM and CWM has not been updated for years.
Does the USB port work on the phone? Is it recognized by a PC when connected?

It is recognised by the PC yes. I have to make sure the bootloader is unlocked but I don't know how.
If you have a GT-i9505, the bootloader is not locked. Using software to unlock the bootloader will probably hard brick the phone. Google XDA and you will find further answers to your question.
Regardless of whether the bootloader is or is not locked, there is always a risk that flashing software to the phone can cause it to brick.

It's good that you are able to use CWM/Philz. I used it on my s2 and s3 for a while. When I moved to the s4, I switched to TWRP since many ROM developers recommend using TWRP to flash. I then moved to the s6 for a little and then the s7.

Thanks a lot for the tutorial. After that, should I put the Custom ROM and the Gapps in the internal memory (any folder?) and then put the phone into recovery mode? Or does the TWRP already bring you to the installation after the reboot (your step 10)?

Yes, put them in any folder you prefer. The phone will only reboot to the os, even if it reboots to the recovery i recommend going into recovery manually. After that clear data/data & cache & system, then install the zips and reboot.

13. Install the Custom ROM and then GApps.
Are these steps alltogether correct?
(Another question, is it not possible to flash with a Custom ROM and Gapps without using a PC at all?)
