Anyone know why WiFi won't work after unlocking the bootloader on the Nexsus S i9020A? I have restarted, restored, and locked the bootloader again and still not connecting to my wireless router at home. It was working before unlocking the bootloader. Thanks for any advice.

Did you reboot your router?

Yes and no go.

Can you connect to any other wifi networks?

Does it say error on the wifi setting page? if so, most likely you have a corrupted boot partition or at least something slightly wrong inside, happened to me.
i fixed mine by restoring "/boot" in clockwork recovery.
good luck.
My mistake I guess I was up to late last night trying to find out how get some kind of tether application that uses infrusture mode, so I was using the wrong password for my router. I didn't realize until this morning so all good and WiFi working.

So I took my n7 to work today for the first time and it automatically signed in to or secured WiFi without me putting in a password. I subsequently took it to two other locations that have password protected networks and it automatically connected. All the of these locations are places that I HAVE taken my gs3, my question is this....are these WiFi network somehow remembered by my Google account or something? If not, how did the n7 connect to them? I am certain that these networks are password protected because I have used them before on other devices. I am also certain that my n7 has never been connected to them before because I have only had it for a week. Any help would be appreciated.

I only got my n7 a couple of weeks ago and almost immediately updated to 4.2. I didn't notice any issues. Immediately after the 4.2.1 update I keep getting random connection issues. I have to turn wifi off and on to resolve it.

I had the issue.. 32gb version in the US with the sep build. I actually had it prior to to 4.2.1. I ended up going into advanced properties and changing wifi to always on. Drains battery, but fewer need to turn wifi off and back on.

Yes. I have WiFi disconnects and random reboots since the new update .

WiFi Fixer
I use WiFi Fixer downloaded from Google Play. When the connection is dropped it automatically reconnects after a second or two.
Same on my 7 WiFi stops working at random times turn WiFi off and on fixes it, only started after 4.2.1 update

Thanks for confirming everyone. I have wifi always on and still have the issue. Hopefully it gets fixed...

How do we make Google aware of these bugs?

My WiFi is always on and tethered to my evo3d at least 8 hours a day. Not a single problem under 4.2.1.

Just to clarify, i'm having this problem 100% stock. Not rooted what so ever. Roms/kernels could have this eliminated. But I wouldn't know.

No wifi internet / e-mail / notifications after 4.2.1
I am having a similar issue. Stock Nexus 7, never rooted, installed the 4.2.1 update when it was pushed. Since then I can connect to wifi connections but there is no internet access. While the icon in the upper right has small flashing arrow like data is being sent back and forth, the icon remains gray and no internet-requiring services on the tablet work. I've tried everything that I (and Google Play and Asus support) could think of with no luck.
The only thing they could come up with at the end was to restore the tablet to factory settings. Unfortunately I have application data that I need to back up that I can't access by accessing the internal storage using my laptop (I'm stock, remember?).
So I'm between a rock and a hard place here. Anyone have any suggestions? It was very frustrating when the Asus representative suggested I use the built-in backup and restore feature:
Me: "That requires internet access to work right?
Asus representative: "Oh....right..."
My Wi-Fi on both my Nexus 7's is very slow. They stay connected fine but I'm getting about 150kbps download speeds. I factory reset one of them to no prevail. Anyone have any insight on this or heard of others with this issue? All my other devices work fine on the same Wi-Fi connection and I tried turning everything else off so just the Nexi where connected to see if the speeds are faster, but they aren't. I'm stock on both devices and both are the 16gb version, one older than the other.

Known issue. I logged a bug with Google and there's actually several open bugs reporting wifi issues. So far, none of the bugs are being picked up by google officially.

I've tried this same thing, and as soon as I installed 4.2, WiFi went to sh**. Completely stock.
So turning wifi off then on seems to be the generally excepted quick fix?

Or use Static IPs. That solved it for me. I had to ask my company to provide a reservation for my MAC Address. It's like back in the 90s when Wifi started coming out using the BellLabs/Lucent chipset.
So when I lock my Nexus 7, my wifi will drop after a minute or so, and in order for it to stay on I have to keep the screen unlocked and on. Does anyone know what I could do to fix this? Thanks.

Should have clarified, I have it set to stay on.
This is a well documented issue and has just happened on 4.2.1. I have the same issue and looking for a fix

I'm stock rom, rooted, cwm recovery, 4.2.1. My wi-fi is rock solid perfect. Some issues that have caused problems are the encryption method (wpa seems best), too long or special characters in the network password, outdated firmware on the router, reset of router needed, static ip seems to help some.
Just got my s4 and I am having a issues with my wifi. When I connect I can use it for about 5 min then it stops downloading. The icon on my phone shows that it is uploading but I don't think it is. Anyone else having wifi issues? I know it's not my wife because my ipad and all my other wifi devices work just fine. I have dlink dir 655 wireless N router and I am not rooted.

Hah, "Wife issues."
But so far, I haven't had any WiFi issues. Mine has stayed connected consistently.
Yea sorry bout that didn't notice that my phone doesn't know what wifi is haha. I don't know what's going on with my phone. It just stops downloading then like 5 min later it starts then stops again.

does it keep disconnecting & reconnecting?
Yes, it locks up showing that it is stuck uploading then I have to wait a minute or 2 for it to disconnect then reconnect.

I also have the dir 655 router and have the same issues connecting. After searching this issue, it appears that this router has compatibility problems with Samsung phones. I have connected with no problems to AT&T's hotspot, my wifi at work, the wifi at my car dealer when getting service. I only have problems when I'm at home with the Dlink. I've tried WPA with TKIP, WEP, and no encryption at all and it will constantly lose connection no matter what I do.
My work uses an ASUS router with WPA2 and AES and I am connected all day so I went out and ordered one. Hoping that when it arrives on Tuesday that I will have no more problems connecting.

Sorry about the wrong thread it was late last night and wasn't paying attention, also why the title of the post was wife issues haha. Good to know it is not my phone that isn't working . I have another wireless router I am going to try out here in a bit and see if my dir655 was the culprit. Thanks for the heads up!

Just set up a netgear router I had as a spare and no problems now! Hopefully someone can find a fix for the dir 655, such a good wireless AP! Thanks again Will822!

Glad you got yours working. Hopefully I get my new router soon.
Hey all, I have the WiFi only 8gb model and just as of recently it cannot connect to WiFi AP's. It has the ability to see signal strength of AP's but the WiFi icon in the status bar remains empty an and it can't authenticate to either the home router or my phone as a hotspot.
NFC is off, device is rooted, tried wiping everything, no gaps cracks or bumps in back cover, etc...
Anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks

Try using WPA/WPA2 PSK encryption is you are not already using encryption.
What's changed? Now ROM? New router? New software installed?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Nothing, I haven't used it since July 4th. Now visiting my patents and it won't work with either AP. Unless it got damaged on the flight out but it was with me the whole time.
Also yes both are encrypted with WPA2.
