I've got a few android devices... and I like to keep them relatively the same when it comes to the apps they have on them. So, I really enjoy the gallery app found on the CM7 rom of one of my phones. Gallery 3D is free, but for some reason listed as not compatible with the A500. I did some digging and grabbed the updated apk from one of my phones, worked a champ on the tablet.
I wonder what other apps are out there like this one.
I have it listed as compatible now - Acer A500 (registered July, 2011). It could depend on what the ROM you're using. I don't remember what I've been using in June but my Iconia Acer A500 (registered June, 2011) is also incompatible with this app. But for sure June was before HC 3.1.
Good to know. I'm talking with a few friends on the inside at the market to see what's going on. Using Lightspeed currently... tried Virtuous-Xoom as well. Did not matter which kernel was being used.
I had this on my Archos 101 and I enjoyed it - though it seemed more flashy than functional.
It shows up in the marketplace on my tab - downloaded and installed no problem - works fine. But still has it's quirks.

First day with transformer. I use Slacker extensively on my DX but Market doesn't show me any love. Hoping it is temporary issue. Anybody know if it is not supported?
Not not have Honeycomb support. You could e-mail the dev to ask if they are working on a Honeycomb tablet compatible app.
Thanks. I didn't realize that some apps would not be available on Honeycomb tablets.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised given that many apps for iPhones don't run on iPad (excluding the 2X option).
You could use Pandora for now...
Hey there you sexy people. I'm looking at buying a tablet, but if I'm going to purchase a tablet it *must* support Netflix streaming; this is my most desired feature. My second most desired feature is a full-size USB port, so woohoo for the Iconia!
When the unofficial (hacked) APKs came out I know people had some luck with it working on the device. My question is, does it still work, or has Netflix killed it with a server-side update?
I'm specifically looking for answers from people who have recently tried it within the last few days (or are able to try it right now).
If anyone cares to add to the discussion aside from Netflix, feel free to tell me what made you happy or angry about the A500. I know the Android 3.1 release being pushed back over and over is a big one. I'd like to hear if you are glad with your choice in tablet.
Thank you all!

even the hacked apk's never worked. They were mislabeled as working on that thread. i've been trying just about every hour of every day to get the market version as well as every release thats been put up on the internet along w/ build.prop modifying to get this thing rocking netflix... but alas it still isn't working.
aaaanyway, thats not to say it wont work anytime soon but the only tablet it works awesome on to my knowledge is the ipad, and i'm not counting 7" tablets because i just dont care enough about them to look into them.
and to dive deeper into what you posted about the only real gripe i have for this a500 is that its heavy, you get used to it after a while but at first its crazy heavy. Partly the size has to do w/ the usb port i'm sure, making it thicker which is unfortunate but the weight... i have no idea where its coming from after playing around w/ the galaxy tab for a bit.
good times, hope you find a tablet that works for you.
From my understanding regarding the Netflix app (this is compiled from reading many threads on the subject):
Tablets based on Android 2.3.3 seems to work fine.
Tablets based on Android 2.3.4 is a hit or miss proposition, mostly miss. The ones that don't work either have no playback or playback is at a faster speed ("the chipmunk effect" as some call it).
Tablets based on Android launches, but doesn't playback at all (at least up to 3.0.1...don't know about 3.1, will have to read the threads again). Usually says the device is unsupported.

In Honeycomb 3.0 Netflix does not even show up in the market on the a500 - none of the modified versions out there seem to work. Tried a million of them.
After flashing the unofficial advance leak of 3.1 for the Iconica - Netflix does show in market, everything works except actually watching anything - bombs out with a 12001 : cannot connect to server.
I would guess support will be added soon - perhaps around the time 3.1 becomes official.
Is the 3.1 OTA release for Canadian Xooms out yet? I've seen plenty of talk that it was delayed back in may, but I have not read of anyone in Canada getting it yet. These HC updates are getting to be a royal PITA on several different tablets.
Rob
Noting official yet, Only Japan then China got it, they release it in Australia with major screw-ups then pulled it, I am starting to wonder if it will ever come out, rumors of Xoom 2, Google has released 3.2 and we don't even have 3.1. as soon as I know there is a safe way I am going to install the US version, Screw Motorola, good hardware **** support, will never buy another Motorola product,
I've been running the US version since the Xoom came out in Canada.

Sounds like a plan! I'll do a full backup of course beforehand so I can restore if I want to do OTA.
Rob
I didn't get the update as of yesterday. Finally got fed up with waiting and flashes to the US version and now running 3.2. In my opinion there's nothing to keep it in the Canadian version currently.

Besides your warranty of course, i doubt anything will go wrong but just in case. If i have to wait on motorola for ICS im rooting and flashing to US firmware right away.
Tired of waiting
Spent the past few weeks perched like a hawk in the Moto thread, hoping --nay, praying-- for the 3.1 update so that the Moto bluetooth keyboard issue with stuck keys (often the backspace key!) is fixed.
Finally said the hell with it on Friday and flashed the US "Google Experience" ROM, then got 3.1 and 3.2 in succession within about a half-hour. Keyboard works, SD works, it's a bit zippier, and I even have Google Videos and Books to boot. (Although I can't actually buy anything with them yet, just get the free books and play my own videos.)
Although the fact that I need to connect to my Windows to transfer files to the SD irks me a bit (I'm a Linux user), for the most part I'm pretty happy with the switchover.

Install an app called "USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG". I use that to mount my SD card in Ubuntu. I haven't tested it for 3.2 but it should work.
edit: looks like the 3.2 tiamat kernel may not yet support it.

So you flashed the 3.01 US WiFi rom and then you got the other updates OTA? Or did you manually flash those as well?
Rob
Just to follow up, I installed the US 3.01 stock image downloaded from the Motorolla dev site.
At first I tried to do the flashing from WinXP running in a VirtualBox VM, but that did not work. So I tried again with my Win7 laptop and that went a lot better. All the software to do this is a bit time consuming to install though... 3.1 and 3.2 updates came through OTA and my Xoom is now running 3.2.
I am disappointed there is no write ability to the sd card at this time.

BigRushDog will have a fix don't worry!
I noticed when i upgraded to honeycomb 3.1 the android market had the app tab the books tab and the movies tab and was the updated version but now when i upgraded to honeycomb 3.2 all of that is gone is there anyway to update the android market?>
Can anyone help?
I'm not sure that that's a problem that's very common. My Xoom at 3.2 still has everything that 3.1 had.
Just out of curiosity, Are you currently outside the country from where you bought your Xoom? Thing is, the Android Market exists in about 95 countries. Google Movies and Books, on the other hand are available in much fewer, so if you go to any of those countries, the tabs just don't show up.
Hope that helped, although I will need some more info to comprehensively solve your problem.
I am in Canada and it was bought at best buy in canada, another problem is i have a samsung galaxy tablet 7inch and half of the apps on the galaxy market are not showing in my motorola xoom market. It was all working fine on honeycomb 3.1 but i dont know whats wrong with it i emailed the android market support and they were no help at all.
I didn't encounter this issue with my Xoom. Although it may be different for me, as I'm running Tiamat 2.0.1 right now.
Regardless, I believe this market update may have to be downloaded elsewhere. If it doesn't update itself, maybe check online to see if you can find a place to download the update. I know that another website I check for Android news had a download link.
I'm not sure why the tabs don't appear on your Xoom, but I'm still gonna ask - Is your Xoom connected through a VPN which may be causing it to give the market details of another country.
As for the apps not showing up, I'd blame it on the VPN, if you have any, but more emphasis on the fact that your Galaxy Tab isn't honeycomb. It's more of a big phone than a tablet, so a number of phone apps would be showing up on that, which do not show up on a tablet. Viber and Tap-Tap Revenge would be a couple of examples that I could give you.
Hope that Helps.
Hey there, fellas (and ladies!)! Are you tablet owners tired of that fact that the Android Market still does not have a dedicated tablet app section yet? I got tired of that very fast, and I decided, back in January, to open a website that would become the web's largest database providing users with nothing but applications that are designed to work on Android tablets. I've fought and struggled to make everything work just like it should, and finally, I feel that it's in a position where I can open it up to the masses.
I'm here today to present to you my app, which is live on the market right now. This app is called Android Tablet Apps, and, as the title states, you'll be able to browse all of the Android tablet applications That I have added to my website.
You can download the application from the market via this link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidtabapps.tablink
Please, if you have any comments or suggestions, leave them below, and I will consider them. I am open to anything you have to say.
This app is compatible with both phones AND tablets, running android 2.2+. I didn't feel the need to restrict the app to just tablets, because a lot of us tablet owners also have phones and it would be nice to browse tablet apps sometimes, when you don't have your tablet, right?
Should probably reserve this post for any future need.
Market install issue
Thank you for creating this app. I have downloaded it from the market and the market indicates it is installed, but it does not show up on my tablet... Am using an Acer Iconia A500 with a rooted stock rom, so I am unsure of how to test this,
Thanks,
Edit:
Rebooted, went back and tried the third time and finally installed.
I really wish I could debug that problem, because I have the exact same problem on my tablet, too. (I've the a500 as well).
Very good app. Installed without a hitch on my A501.
Sent from my Acer Iconia A501 using XDA Premium App.
(Acer Iconia A501 + Samsung Galaxy S I9000T)
Very nice app man, sweet presentation! Thanks
Bill
How is this different from Tablet Market?
Your market description says "Android Tablet Apps is your number one source, as well as the FIRST source online, for Android tablet applications and games".
How is this different from the Tablet Market app that I've been using for months?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.andromo.dev86.app119
From the screenshots, yours does look nicer.

From the looks of that app and its website, there's no web interface that tablet owners can use to browse tablet apps. Our web interface is located at www.androidtabapps.com and as mentioned, I've had it up and running since January 2011.
I haven't actually seen that app before, so I couldn't tell you how its functionality differs from mine or anything.
I appreciate your compliment, as well as all other compliments in this thread.
I believe I will be implementing a search option very soon. This search will work on both the tablet and phone version of my application, and it should be released very soon. Also, I think I am going to rework some of the functionality of the app, so be on the lookout for the new update notification when I upload the next version. I'll also post here, that there's an update available, and explain the changes in my second post in the beginning of this thread.
Again, all suggestions are welcome. If you have an idea on how I can improve my app for you, PLEASE let me know, either via this thread, or via the email that's in my app details on the Market.
there's also Tablified (both app + website) to also disprove this one being the first. All that aside though, this app looks quite promising and there's alot of good content, although if I were to be picky, I noticed a few apps not specifically made for tablets. Also, I wish the Market links would open the Market app rather than the website. Just my 2 cents... Looks nice though. I'll definitely be keeping it and looking forward to future updates. Thanks for sharing!
I'd like to take just a moment to counter the claimin post #9. My website has been live since January 6, 2011, while the other site mentioned has been online since July 21, 2011. I am not sure when they released their app as I obviously haven't followed them closely enough, but I can definitly back my claim as being the first source onthe internet for Android tablet apps
I would also like to thank you for your compliments about my app, and I will definitely change the link structure to open app links in your native Market app, rather than the web Market. This change will take place this weekend. Thanks for your suggestion!!
Bloodflame, can you name those apps that we accidentally added that aren't for tablets? Ill review them and remove them. Thanks
