Stream TV has posted a new firmware.
http://elocitynow.com/support_downloads.shtml
Thanks for info...
Downloaded and loading now. I will report my experience with the new firmware in a while.
For anyone who has not upgraded, please let me know what the build number was on the old firmware. Nothing cosmetic, seems a little slower than the Dexter mod I was running, may have to revert back to that until something substantial occurs with the firmware. There is a new kernel if the previous one in Dexter's mod was based on the December 24th release.
I'm curious about the date of the release not changing although the description of what has changed is at the top of the page.
I just checked, it still says Dec. 24, 2010. I'm not seeing the 1/15/2011 update listed on their firmware page.
The same here ...is the file the new one or the one from December?...what is suppose to be a new build number?
It hard to say because the filename is update.zip. It would be useful if they changed the naming convention to something friendlier. Let us rename the file to update.zip. Anyway that would be a recommendation. Name the file by the release date.
It is the new firmware on the website.
Date is incorrect.
I installed but ido not see any difference...
The update is a new update. Below is the build number of the December update and the current one.
December - PBJ8000.2.0121
January 14/15 I guess depending on where you are - PBJ8000.2.0124
No visual changes, all under the hood. Ad-hoc works without modification I did notice that. I'll keep it installed since I have added the marked to it.
Still does not report external storage correctly.
Still looking for Cifs and some 3g usb dongle support. That would round it out for me.

And you expected something different?
Unfortunately they can't include the Market or the google app as Google won't allow them. There is nothing they can do until Google changes the rules or releases a version of Android approved for tablets. This is the case with just about all the Android tablets currently on the Market.
I'm waiting for a ROM that includes the Market and Google Apps to be cooked up by the Devs here before I to the update.

Yeah if you don't understand that stream tv won't be releasing a firmware with market at least on froyo, I don't think you get it. Wait for Dexter of another dev to cook up a rom or learn how to get market on there yourself. before you start calling the updates a POS.
That said has anyone noticed any real changes? So far the only difference for me is that swype FCs on me now.

Maybe because of the WIFI fixes...but I am seeing much improved battery life... Before I would get about 4-5 hours... now last two days..about 6-7 hours..maybe a fluke.. but I will see over the next few days..

Is Google deny Market at any tablets with OS Android 2.2 only?
I heard Viewsonic Viewpad 7 has Google Market
Why eLocity has not?

Froyo was not designed for tablets. The only tablet, 7 inches or bigger, that comes with official market support is the galaxy tab. Well that I'm aware of being available anyway. Google is currently only approving market for phones on 2.2 and the only reason the galaxy tab got approval is a convoluted definition as a phone. or more likely in my mind some backroom dealings between samsung and google. Either way Stream TV has never promised market on the A7 and most of us jumped in knowing that. If you lost market el al by upgrading to the latest firmware that means you were previously running a mod... my guess being one of dexters since I'm not aware of any others.
It seems you were not aware that the mod you were running was not an official firmware from Stream TV and is not supported by them.

That's to be expected. You should be able to add them back pretty easy. How did you put them on there in the first place - via ElocityMod or Manually?

Can you tell me how to put the Market on my A7? I just got one and installed teh updated firmware. Looks like if I install Dexter's mod it will be going backwards on my firmware.

No, Dexter's V1.1 is based on the latest (1/15/11) firmware. If you install that you get the latest firmware plus the Market and Gapps.
Under the market is there supposed to be a
Featured Apps for Tablets, or Tablets apps section?
for whatever reason I do NOT see one, I am using an imported wifi model (from USA) here in Canada, is that why? any hack I can do
thanks
I guess what im asking for, is, is there some kind of MARKET ENABLER for the Xoom
I have an imported Xoom as well, I'm in UAE. But I was able to install that app you refer to, it's called Tegra Zone.
I was however unable to install many other free apps that should work, even Angry Birds and a few others. It says something like "It's not allowed on my operator" or something, though it's Wifi Xoom.
I'm wondering if Market Enabler, or Market Access would work on a rooted Wifi Xoom? It should break this kind of location barriers.
i can install everything, tegrazone shows tegra apps only
but theree supposed to be (so i hear) a section in the ANDROID MARKET called 'Features apps for tablet'
which i dont see
ur prob is odd..if ur wifi only u shud have no problems, try a new google account, maybe ur existing one is tied to a phone that is using an operator in UAE
I also don't see Featured apps for tablet in Market. I have a wifi only Xoom bought from US, i'm in EU.
If I search for honeycomb apps in Market, it finds them and I can install them just fine.
Maybe the Market just doesn't show Featured apps for tablet in other countries yet? As far as I know, there are no honeycomb tablets on sale in EU yet, so maybe they will update the Market when Xoom launces in EU?
Anyway we will see when european Xoom is released, if it will show the Featured apps for tablet. And if it does, then we probably can use the european rom at least on wifi only Xoom.

Sorry misunderstood you. I can only see the sliding banner and featured free apps (6 of them), some of which I can't even install!
PS. I was just able to install Angry Birds using a VPN connection in UK. Before, it used to say Item not found when it tries to install.
So try a VPN connection in the US, it should show Featured apps(?)
so can someone who owns a xoom IN THE USA
actually post here and be like 'yes there is actually a features tablet apps' section in the android market
Yes there is actually a featured tablet apps section in the Google Market - at least for U.S. customers...
Yep im in us snd there is a feautered tablet apps section. But it has only 57 apps listed. Searching for honeycomb is a much better result.
have you tried via the browser market?
I can verify that when I was in the states I had the featured apps for tablets section. As soon as I flew out it disappeared. Very short sighted and stupid. If nothing else there should also be an option to filter tablet apps in the online market.
The screwy incompetence of big businesses with multiple minds working together is a constant source of wonder to me.

We need a feed that updates everytime a new tablet app appears in the market
its sad cause the wifi xoom is actually out in canada now..
unless they can see this too
but im just screwed cause I got a usa xoom working in canada
anyone who bought the xoom from canada can let me know if they see it?
I also can't get Google books etc.. usually market enabler by Rac would work but we have no GSM
Perhaps an modified vending.apk?
I bought my xoom wifi in Canada. I installed tegrazone and I can see the featured apps no problem. I don't see google books or google translate...
i purchased a wifi version and I am in Canada and though there is a featured apps section on the market, its not tablet only apps. It kind of useless.
Yea got mine in Canada Wifi only, and I see no tablet section. Just regular old market.
let's start posting names of the best tablet apps in here...
Monster madness
Btw all I see in the tegra zone is like 4 paid games, one free one and a bunch of coming soon... not a single app. No options either...

its only tegra devices nothing tablet specific
We are talking about "Featured apps for tablets" in Android Market. It seems it doesn't matter where you bought the Xoom, it shows the "Featured apps for tablets" only for people in US.

Got the 3.1 update this morning and I've noticed that i dont have the movie rentals tab in the market or the new videos app. I checked to make sure the system actually upgraded and it definitely did. Widget resizing, browser tweaks, even the changes to the marketplace are now in effect, but no movie rental section.
Anyone else? What gives?
Support is supposed to be available in the near future as per the Motorola User forums: https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/50036

WIFI XOOM Now HAS Movies
i just notice today that my wifi only xoom now has the movies tab. i was able to run throught a few of them. but didn't attempt to click on any. i know the 3G xoom has been enjoying this for a few weeks now. but we the wifi only xoom has just now started to get this, atleast that how it seem to me. i was on the market last night and didn't see it, but i sure did today, not even earlier in the day. i notice it this afternoon. so i think it was just roll out today afternoon. eitherway i hope others with wifi only xoom are getting this update in the market. btw i am wifi xoom, stock everything.
Yes, I noticed this morning that I had the movies app, as well. I rented a movie but haven't tried to watch it yet. We will see what happens. It's about time!!!!
Hello XDA,
This is a combination of an angry rant as well as a question (hence why I decided to put it in General and not Q&A). Why the hell is the application so spread out and lacking for tablets when it can run them?!
For example when I do a search on the Android Market for "Worms" (EA Games game) I have three choices only one of which works for my Infuse 4G but none work on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 that blows the Infuse out of the water (spec wise).
This is also true for Gameloft games. There is no option to download it for my tablet directly from them, but a simple google search gives me sites where I can download the Game Data and the APK and get these (and the market apps) to run perfectly on my Galaxy Tab.
This is a huge problem that I can can get the games, and having them working on my tab via sideloading and blatant pirating, but am unable to get them via the marketplace. Personally this is a fault of Android. I love how open it is, and how it allows for its users to do almost anything they want, but it is also a massive problem. I should be able to go the market and find ANY game or application that will work on my Tablet without having to pirate them due to the lack of support.
Maybe it's just me, but do you guys feel that this shouldn't be needed and is a problem of Android?
As I stated before, I do. I'm a techie so going to a website and getting this is no problem for me, but I gave the Tab as a gift to my mother, she would not be able to understand what to do and would be limited by the marketplace and upset when she can't find the application she wants.
Meh, it might just be me.
1. The apps were not designed for tablets so why should they work? Tablets and phones are two completely different devices.
2. Honeycomb 3.2 has added compatibility for most phone apps.
To add insult to injury, it's also very annoying when the market says that the application is "incompatible" with my phone/tablet yet I can sideload and it works perfeclty. A part of me is starting to feel that the Market Place should be the ONLY place you can get applications, but one can offer their own market, kind of like how Amazon and Tegra Zone do it.

1.) Except as stated, I can sideload the application and it works PERFECTLY fine with no problem.
2.) Yes because that will solve the marketplace issue?
Also, I thought they were no longer manufacturing Xoom, Galaxy Tabs, etc... or so you so nicely said in the now deleted "quad core" thread.
Yeah, it's strange. It's on the developer, in the end, to mark the app as 3.x compatible, but I'm surprised so many opt out when they could be reaching a larger audience effortlessly. (Netflix, Facebook, many games...)

Yes production has stopped. The LTE units are just 3G units that have already been produced a LONG time ago, all they did was apply the LTE upgrade to it which was not ready in time for the 3G units launch and why they offer a free upgrade to 3G users.

Your stupidity makes my head hurt. I did research and no there has not been any stopped production, it was only rumor. Please note:
http://www.phonedog.com/2011/03/22/xoom-production-ending-soon/
http://www.talkandroid.com/34179-will-motorola-stop-production-of-the-xoom-not-likely/
and
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-20046128-17.html , where it states: However, Motorola Mobility told CNET today that DigiTimes' claims are "not accurate" and that the company plans to continue producing the Xoom beyond June.
These all state it as a rumor that was debunked. Please provide evidence that Motorola has CONCRETELY stopped production, since everyone was up in arms about the new model for Verizon which turned out to just be the Xoom with 4G for a September launch.
But anyways, back to the topic on hand. Do you have anything useful to add or you going to continue to speak out of your ass and offer nothing to the topic of app spreading and poor consolidation of apps that say they don't work but truly do, or are you done since Netflix is a great example of one and completely debunked your initial approach?

Look at it from the developers point of view. The app isn't tablet ready. However, if they make available for tablets in the app store then the implication is that it is tablet ready. If the implication is that it's tablet ready then their customers who load it on a tablet will expect support when they load it on a tablet.
Even worse, look at the comments on apps that aren't tablet ready. They nag, whine and rip the author because it doesn't look or work right on a tablet.
If I were a developer and my app wasn't tablet ready I'd do everything possible to keep it off the app store for tablets.
If a customer side loads it then that's fine, they must support themselves.
Here's another reson it might not be available on the Google app store. There are multiple, competing app stores. Thank goodness for choice. Maybe an author has decided to give one of the other stores an exclusive for a period of time.
See? Many reasons why it's not there.
TabGuy,
I'm going to play Devil's Advocate.
Go download the Cartoon Netwoork Application. On the phone it is AMAZING, it allows for full episodes and clips and games, so it is a nice time passer when I want to relive my younger days or let my nephew play with it. You cn download it for the Galaxy Tab, but it is neigh unusable for the Tab due to only being in the small rectangle.
So this is contrary to your point and on for mine. This is an application that does not work for the Tab, for the most part, but is available via the marketplace, while applications that are typically are not optimized for the tab or stated as working do in fact for it and are NOT available on the marketplace.
While this may be the except and not the rule it is annoying and unacceptable that Google/Developers do this and questions the future of the Android Operatin System with regards to the experience as the end user...especially against other Tablet OSes that have a centralized place to get applications that do work for the device.
Rydsmith,
I hear ya. Many developers don't have customer service skills and simply don't care how their app looks on a tablet and how many bad comments they'll get. Others try to protect their brand and want their customers have the best possible experience.
Hey there, fellas (and ladies!)! Are you tablet owners tired of that fact that the Android Market still does not have a dedicated tablet app section yet? I got tired of that very fast, and I decided, back in January, to open a website that would become the web's largest database providing users with nothing but applications that are designed to work on Android tablets. I've fought and struggled to make everything work just like it should, and finally, I feel that it's in a position where I can open it up to the masses.
I'm here today to present to you my app, which is live on the market right now. This app is called Android Tablet Apps, and, as the title states, you'll be able to browse all of the Android tablet applications That I have added to my website.
You can download the application from the market via this link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidtabapps.tablink
Please, if you have any comments or suggestions, leave them below, and I will consider them. I am open to anything you have to say.
This app is compatible with both phones AND tablets, running android 2.2+. I didn't feel the need to restrict the app to just tablets, because a lot of us tablet owners also have phones and it would be nice to browse tablet apps sometimes, when you don't have your tablet, right?
Should probably reserve this post for any future need.
Market install issue
Thank you for creating this app. I have downloaded it from the market and the market indicates it is installed, but it does not show up on my tablet... Am using an Acer Iconia A500 with a rooted stock rom, so I am unsure of how to test this,
Thanks,
Edit:
Rebooted, went back and tried the third time and finally installed.
I really wish I could debug that problem, because I have the exact same problem on my tablet, too. (I've the a500 as well).
Very good app. Installed without a hitch on my A501.

How is this different from Tablet Market?
Your market description says "Android Tablet Apps is your number one source, as well as the FIRST source online, for Android tablet applications and games".
How is this different from the Tablet Market app that I've been using for months?

From the screenshots, yours does look nicer.

From the looks of that app and its website, there's no web interface that tablet owners can use to browse tablet apps. Our web interface is located at www.androidtabapps.com and as mentioned, I've had it up and running since January 2011.
I haven't actually seen that app before, so I couldn't tell you how its functionality differs from mine or anything.
I appreciate your compliment, as well as all other compliments in this thread.
I believe I will be implementing a search option very soon. This search will work on both the tablet and phone version of my application, and it should be released very soon. Also, I think I am going to rework some of the functionality of the app, so be on the lookout for the new update notification when I upload the next version. I'll also post here, that there's an update available, and explain the changes in my second post in the beginning of this thread.
Again, all suggestions are welcome. If you have an idea on how I can improve my app for you, PLEASE let me know, either via this thread, or via the email that's in my app details on the Market.
there's also Tablified (both app + website) to also disprove this one being the first. All that aside though, this app looks quite promising and there's alot of good content, although if I were to be picky, I noticed a few apps not specifically made for tablets. Also, I wish the Market links would open the Market app rather than the website. Just my 2 cents... Looks nice though. I'll definitely be keeping it and looking forward to future updates. Thanks for sharing!
I'd like to take just a moment to counter the claimin post #9. My website has been live since January 6, 2011, while the other site mentioned has been online since July 21, 2011. I am not sure when they released their app as I obviously haven't followed them closely enough, but I can definitly back my claim as being the first source onthe internet for Android tablet apps
I would also like to thank you for your compliments about my app, and I will definitely change the link structure to open app links in your native Market app, rather than the web Market. This change will take place this weekend. Thanks for your suggestion!!
Bloodflame, can you name those apps that we accidentally added that aren't for tablets? Ill review them and remove them. Thanks
