Nexus S 4G missing incoming calls! - Nexus S General

I have a NS4G, and I seem to be missing a lot of incoming calls. The phone doesn't ring/vibrate at all, and shows no indication of a call or a missed call. The only way I know somebody tried to call is I end up with voicemails, or people tell me that they tried calling and didn't get through.
This seems to happen even when I have a decent signal and when I can make outgoing calls just fine and even send/receive text messages. I don't think it's simply a coverage issue, because the phone is never really searching for a signal.
This has happened for certain on CM7 and Deck. I'm not sure about the stock ROM. In fact, I'm thinking of reverting back to stock just to test. If it does happen on stock, then I'm wondering if it's just something physically bad with the phone.
I have also updated my profile and PRL.
Has anybody else experienced anything similar? I don't seem to drop calls or have sporadic signal strength or anything like that.

Yes, i've noticed the same thing. Do you have a google voice integrated account? I'm wondering if that might be the common factor.
I've had to go and make sure that the GV app logs missed calls in case this happens.

Good point, I haven't noticed this since I updated the radio and to 2.3.5 stock, so it might have been fixed. I'll keep an eye out if it continues.

I am on the new radio. In fact, I seem to have the problem on both radios.
I am on Google Voice, by the way, and I have my cell number forward to my GV number for missed calls.
The odd thing is I don't seem to always get a missed-call notification; only one for voicemail. Then, in logging on to my GV account in the browser, it doesn't show a missed call. However, when it is working properly, and I dial my cell from a different phone, if I ignore it then I DO get a missed-call notification.
One other possible factor is I'm using an Airave at home, which is where I've noticed the problem most of the time. I'm not positive if I have experienced it outside of the home. I'll have to pay better attention.

I bet it is google voice... I really hate how it takes over my sms too.. I use it for voicemail and that's it.

I'm thinking it probably is GV too, but I wouldn't want to give up my SMS'ing from chrome extension.
You can turn it off so it doesn't take over SMS if you want and just lets you use the stock app all the time.

I don't have GV using SMS right now. Perhaps I'll disable the forwarding temporarily to see if that solves it.

If your on the new radio and using an airave you may miss calls if not connected to wifi. Im having that problem on the new radio. Ill have full bars but if i call my phone it goes straight to voicemail with no notification at all.

It happens when I'm on wifi too, unfortunately.
I was about to just disable GV, but then realized the NS4G doesn't get the regular Sprint Visual Voicemail app! Now what do I do??

You can use google voice for only voicemail. I have that setup and it works great. it even transcribes the voicemails to text

Unfortunately, I'm missing some calls using that setup. :-(

tmobile nexus s with gv deactivated
I have a T-Mobile nexus s on 2.3.4 stock, I'm missing a lot of calls and so is my wife, I've deactivated TV but it didn't change anything

Wondering if anybody else out there is encountering this! Trying to figure out whether or not it's a hardware issue.

I have ns4g and a use GV and when somebody calls my number, GV rings my nexus and my other phone with verizon, so I can say that the problem is not GV, most of the times only rings my other phone and the nexus nothing, the problem is the phone with a very weak radios, wifi/3g, and the poor service of sprint and is getting worst and worst.

Im having same problem on T-Mobile Nexus S but only when I'm on 3G .

I've had this happen to me on the Stock rom, and Deck, and I don't use GV at all for anything. Happens when the phone is sleeping usually, if it's lit up, the call won't get missed. I've really not spent the time to research it as I don't use the phone much anyway.

I also noticed problems with incoming and outgoing texts being either delayed or not sent at all. I rigged up a little test.
I scheduled a text message to be sent to my phone every minute with the current time in the message. Then I would just keep an eye/ear out on my phone while it sat on my desk. For the majority of the time, I would get the alert every minute, but sometimes there would be nothing for five or more minutes. After this outage, it seemed like all of the incoming messages would be delivered at once.
During that outage, though, it seemed like that was when the phone calls had trouble getting through. I guess it makes sense that there would be a connection between the two.

I had the same problem. I even had people tell me that they got a recording saying the call couldn't be completed. I was even testing the other day and no calls I made to the phone were connection, going straight to voice mail.
I decided to disable google voice and my issues went away, as well as all the delayed SMS and failed sending SMS problems I was having.

Warning: If using Sprints integrated Google Voice, DONT try to install Sprints VVM!

I decided to try out the Google Voice integration with Sprint. I used the option to use my Sprint number as the primary and only number. So my sprint number and GV number were the same.
Everything was working good for a few days, when i realized that i really hated the way the Google Voice app handled voicemail. So, i found an apk and titanium backup for Sprints VVM that someone on these forums posted. I installed it, it configured itself, but it wouldnt work (which i was expecting as GV was now handling all my voicemail. i just wanted to try it out). I uninstalled it and thought nothing of it.
About an hour later my primary number stopped working. I couldnt place or receive any calls, and i couldnt txt.
Took about an hour for Sprints tech support to get everything fixed. Super lame.
So, if using your sprint number as your google voice number: DONT MESS WITH SPRINTS VVM! It will messsssssss you up! lol
I had this happen to me BEFORE I started messing with VVM. It's a GV issue altogether and not something VVM does, don't let them tell you any different because it's just not true. I've since completely deintegrated my Sprint number from GV and logged out of the app for good and the problem went away immediately.
I didn't do this, but sprint needs to learn abouts the nexus and gv. My phone completely stopped taking inclmjbg calls yesterday until I unintegrated and just used it as a forwarding phone

I was having serious issues yesterday as well; could not receive calls or texts ("We could not complete your call, please try again.") and received the same thing on outgoing calls. after unintegrating GV would not call my phone to verify the number so I could not reintegrate it, and I still couldn't call anyone. This was happening up until about 3 hours ago, now my calls will go through with my Sprint number but it seems like my texts are still not working...

I deintegrated as well. I really like the idea of GV, and thought alot of the features where super neat. But obviously there is still stuff to work out.
after a day of not being able to make or recieve calls, i've deintegrated it as well. i'm sure i must've did something in the settings for that to happen, but integrated gvoice it just too confusing atm. besides, i like getting texts via stock app, and if that means i have to get dual notifications, then forget it.
but sprint/gvoice integration is still new, so im open to future development.
So it sounds like the problem was more widespread than my. Individual phone. I got errors when calling out and errors if someone tried to call my sprint number, now as a forwarding phone j get dual notifications as well. Anybody know if it is cleared up by now? Voice was why I switched to sprint in part

same thing happened to me last night. all of a sudden couldnt make or receive calls. spent a hour and a half with sprint, couldnt get it working. But when I went to the website to remove google voice integration it said it wasnt. I called Sprint back and sure enough the rep said that it was still there so she removed it and immediately i was able to make and receive calls. so the problem is with the google voice integration.
Anybody get service back without unintegrating

Phone randomly won't make calls

Lately my phone is randomly not receiving calls and it won't let me make calls either. What will happen is I'll make a call and I'll hear a beep giving me directions on how to make a collect call.
Anyone know what could be going on?
I'm running Bonsai 4.1.3, but I've been using this flash for a couple months.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1231613
See my last post. Thought maybe just in case you're using that feature, one remote possibility.
Thanks for the tip Droid Apprentice, but there's nothing listed for blocked calls on my account. How likely is it that it's related to a ROM?
Do you have an Airave? If so reset it. Sprint screwed them up a week or so back. You may have a tower down in your area.

Problem receiving texts

So, a little bit ago my phone stopped receiving texts. It sends them out just fine, makes calls, the whole deal, just won't receive them. Every few hours I'll get every text that I've been missing, but that's really not all that conveinent.
Is this currently a Sprint issue, or is something wrong with my phone? I was on Syndicate 1.2 with Genocide 2.0, but I'm on stock and it's stil doing it.

I would call Sprint to see if it is a reported issue in your area. May be a tower down. Is it different senders in different areas? In case it is an issue on the sender's side.

text messages working fine for me
Going into and back out of airplane mode may help with this. The phone radio can sometimes get in a snit where it has trouble receiving texts, calls and VMs. It hasn't happened to me often but resetting the radio with this technique helped.

Sometimes I don't get calls.

Sometimes I don't get calls. Every now and then when my wife tries to call me her call doesn't show up on my phone. I have her on a custom ringtone and was wondering if this might be the problem? Right now I am on AOKP milestone 6, but I am pretty sure this is has happened on stock gingerbread as well. Any ideas?
My wife is on fascinate running rooted stock gingerbread if that makes any difference.

When you said you don't get calls, means in your wife side she's connected? or busy?
back then i have a similar problem, if my phone idle for sometimes, when someone want to call me they can't. busy tone on my side.but i still can surf the internet. if somehow i make a call or miscall or do an sms (my point is you make an outgoing connection), after that i can received incoming calls for some times and text to. let say that you have to trick the signal, OR the signal stuck in 3g mode (my assumption).
or maybe you can ask the provider . i believe its not the rom problem
what is your radio version? if you never updated past ED05 it that may be where the problem lies.
EH03...this hasn't really happened in a while and I am thinking it might have been something to do with Google Voice. I disconnected G-voice and am trying carrier vm instead to see if that solves it.

sprint s8 immediately drops calls when answered

I can't even get past 2 seconds when trying to answer a call. I can make calls with no problem.
I did a factory reset once and that fixed it however i don't want to keep going through that to fix it.
I tried from a land line, when i answer, it ends the call on the phone after 1 second. The land line stays connected with no sound or feedback.
I'm having voice call issues with my sprint s8 as well. It ends the call almost immediately. Can't make or receive any voice calls. Text and data is working fine though.

I can make make calls but not receive them...I called samsung, and they just said to send in the phone...
I dropped sprint a few years ago due to poor coverage, slow lte and dropped calls. I live right between DC and Baltimore and should be in a very very good coverage area but sprint just plain sucks but I didnt have the issue you describe. My calls would drop during almost every call but could go for a few minutes or more before they dropped. I am wondering if maybe your phone isnt provisioned correctly or something. I would be calling sprint and having them work with you on the issue. Good luck I hope you get the problem sorted out!

Yeah sprint isn't always the best for everyone but I've had them for over 15 yrs now with great coverage in my area. I've been holding onto my unlimited legacy plan.
I agree, I think the provisioning might be an issue. I'm planning a call to them this afternoon. I think it started after an update yesterday but not positive.

I don't think it's the coverage, it's like automatically hanging up after i hit answer. If i make a call, it won't hang up during a call. It's really frustrating that phone doesn't work as a phone is intended to work as.
Yes, this is happening to me. It will stay connected about 2 seconds every time. Then drop. I can make calls fine.
I was just starting to investigate. I went to Sprint store and they said check Google Voice integration. I had to leave because I only had a short time, but I am going to check that first.

After factory reset it worked, and that was after google voice was installed. I tried uninstalling google voice and it still does the same thing. Never had any trouble with voice before...so annoying.
Man.... Don't tell me. I just got everything freaking set. And without root.... No Titanium Back-up! ??
okay, i just factory reset it twice, now it won't answer a call at all. I can only make a call.

I think i found the issue. There is a new version of google voice. I was on google voice legacy. I unlinked my phone number with sprint with the legacy page. I linked the new google voice, it seems to be working now.
Fix: Sprint drop calls after two seconds.

jkluczyk, Thanks for posting your fix. It worked for me on my Sprint network phone. Here is how I did it -
- Open Google Voice on your desktop.
- Select Settings - Phone number - Under "Linked numbers" - Unlink your phone number or delete it.
- At top of the page it should say "Try new Google Voice". Select this and go to the new page.
- On the new Google Voice. Repeat steps above and reLink your number again. Should be fixed. Worked for me.
This is the only method that worked for me
Symptom: (All incoming calls hang up right at or just before the 2 second mark). The problem appears to be the association (or lack of) between Sprint and Google Voice.
1st I tried just un-associating/deleting my sprint number with google voice completely and removing my google voice account. This sort of worked, I could answer my phone normally but there was still one big problem. Now I had no voicemail and it would go to busy signal when trying to access it. Also, the phone would ring forever on the callers end if I didn't answer and never go to voicemail. Still no good.
Here's how I fixed it. This method worked for me.
Go to your google voice account - go to legacy mode if you are already in the new version (You must go to the legacy screen to completely remove your account) - go to settings - go to the "phones" tab - deactivate/delete your sprint association and email with your google voice account (In other words, remove everything as if you're starting all over.) You can't do this from the new version, only the legacy version! - give your phone time to update (sometimes up to 15 minutes) - Now setup your Google voice account again but ONLY USE THE LIGHT VERSION and setup voicemail only. This worked for me as my voice mail works fine through google with text and email transcripts and I can actually answer my phone. I did this several times trying the full version vs the light version and every time the full version caused the same issue hanging up with incoming calls, but the light version worked fine.
