Chicago HSPA+ Speeds with AT&T - Networking

I was wondering what kind of speeds you guys are getting with AT&T's "4G" here in suburban Chicago. I get 3.10 UP and 0.57 Down at best. I have a Inspire.

Its pretty bad if you UP speed beat your DOWN speeds by that much!

4G in north manhattan

Yesterday i turned on my 4G radio for the first time in a week and CHA-CHING: 4G! It hasn't worked in the past.
Now I have to see what it does to my battery life.
I can confirm north of the river at Yankee Stadium.
4G at the stadium.
The 3G was not as exciting:
Yankee Stadium - Bronx, NY
3G : 69 kbps / 177 kbps
4G : 3.2 Mbps / 1.0 Mbps

Hi all,
yeah for the past week 3G has been messed up for me i thought it was my phone but i can see that maybe sprint is testing 4G and messing around with the 3G network. i'm getting 859ms ping when doing a speed test which is really slow while i used to get 25~95ms before and like avg 1000Kbps down and 700kbps up. i hope sprint takes care of this ASAP,
I've been getting it I'm lower Manhattan for awhile and up the west side to about 40th st give or take. About 3.5mbps. In Brooklyn I got over 7 mbps.

[Q] tmobile hspa+ on x10?

Anyone on T-mobile USA with the x10 getting hspa+ speeds?
im in chicago and im getting about 1mbps
O_O last time I checked xperia x10 doesn't have support for hspa+ but I could be wrong. And I haven't actually checked yet but I seem to be having the same speed, I'll check later and post the results
I get between 4-6 depending where I am

from the SE official site, the spec. said it is UMTS/HSPA phone which is upto 7.2 Mbps (correct me if i am wrong) HSPA+ is upto 14.4 Mbps which is double....
I dont think our X10 is HSPA+ phone.
I get about 4Mbps down near millennium park with t-mobile's new rollout. Average speed is about 1.5Mbps down throughout the city.

Even if the phone does not support HSPA+, having the network upgraded greatly improves the UTMS/HSPA speeds.

This is correct. HSPA+ is just HSDPA and HSUPA, but with a faster theoretical cap.

in san francisco i get between 7-14 and late night i've gotten up to 21.

Old Phones and HSPA+

Considering HSPA+ is still only a 3g network, should phones that had 3g capability be able to take advantage of HSPA+? I mean when T-Mobile upgraded their old 3g to HSDPA/HSUPA, every phone got the boost.
And why do phones that are cable of utilizing HSPA+ need a sim card that supports HSPA+

I work Tmo Retail. All 3g Tmo phones can utilize the HSPA+ network. The difference with the newer MT4G and G2 is that they can handle higher speeds depending on your area.
For instance, the Samsung Vibrant can handle up to 7.2 mbps while the G2 can do 14.4. In Los Angeles, I get around 4-5 megs on HSPA+ so both phones would be about the same speeds. However, I've heard in other areas in the country, some people have reached 8-12 mbps with HSPA+. In that case, the higher speed capabilities would make a difference.
Hope that answers your question!

So you're saying that once the average speeds for HSPA+ are say 8mbps that my phone will be capped at 7.2 mbps, but if the average speeds are currently under 7.2 that I would be completely capable of having the same speeds as a phone equipped for HSPA+?

EVO 4G Sprint coverage

Anyone live or work around downtown Columbus, Ohio?
My friends and coworkers get horrible sprint coverage in downtown on 3g and 4g.
I know sprints building penetration is bad but 3g is faster than 4g. Verizon let and at&t 3g destroys our coverage and speeds on many different sprint phones.
Anyone else experience this in Columbus, Ohio in the downtown area. It's supposed to be the best 3g/4g coverage.

[Q] Will Nexus 4 still get 42 mbps hspa+ after 1900mhz refarm?

I just wanted to ask a question about the Nexus 4 for T-Mobile users specifically.
As many are probably aware T-Mobile in the US is refarming their spectrum to provide 42mbps speeds on the 1900mhz spectrum which will allow phones like the iPhone to get hspa+ speeds.
I don't care about the iPhone. I want to know what network speeds will be like for current handsets like the nexus 4 that get 42 Mbps right now.
I ask because I am currently in Boston with a gnex and when I first switched to T-Mobile network speeds kept getting better but within the last 6 months speeds have just gotten worse. I think the 1900mhz refarm may be to blame.
I would love to get 42Mbps speeds and this would be my main reason for upgrading to a nexus 4. But does the nexus 4 only support DC-HSPA+ on T-mobile's current bands or will it supports hspa+ (42mbps) on the 1900mhz bands as well. I ask because if this is not the case there is a serious issue of future proofing for this phone and I would probably wait for the next Nexus.
So just wandering if anyone knows more about this kind of stuff than me. Thanks!
Of course it will still get HSPA+:42
The reason your speeds are getting slower has to do with network congestion and 1900mhz should allow for a greater transmission
Thanks. Just wanted to make sure.

Sorry to bring old post back up but this isn't correct. It will not be 1700mhz HSPA+ and 1900mhz HSPA+. It will be 1700 LTE, 1900 HSPA+. Currently HSPA+ is on 1700mhz. So it might be worse for the Nexus 4.
Maybe you can then enable the hidden LTE?
