I am using Faux 123 rom and I rather stick with it than go back to CM7 so I was wondering if there is a way to use the status bar widgets and port them to Faux's rom, is it simply the cmparts or is there something else I would need to do, if anyone can help me put it into Faux's rom or tell me how to do it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks
No one can help me with this?

What are status bar widgets?
I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. What status bar widgets?
And even if I knew what that was I"m 99% sure the answer would be a no. Faux keeps his AOSP as stock as can be. That means whatever CM features you're referring to will not be put on there.
Out of curiosity though, why not just use CM...?
Edit: Ohhh, nvm I know what you're talking about then. Like the WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and etc. toggle? Yeah that will never be in Faux's AOSP ROM.

Oh, those. "Status bar widgets" isn't a good term for those. Maybe "notification tray widgets" or something like that.
FYI, that feature comes standard in Sense 2.1 and 3.0 ROMs.
Thanks but nothing either of you said was helpful lol, except for maybe changing it to notification Widgets. First off I know faux wont put it in his rom I was asking if there was a way to put it in...actually I know it can be added I need to know how and yeah but that's sense, I don't want sense lol and I don't use cm because I get more stability and battery life from fauxs rom

Think that is built into the framework, so unless you know how to build roms, cm7 or sense is your only option....someone correct me if I am wrong...

You're completely right. CM parts and their extra "features" are highly integrated and built into the whole framework. A Simple flash-able zip won't give you those widgets.
I get the same battery with CM as Faux's ROM. And it's extremely stable, don't know how you see CM as not being stable.
Widgetsoid from the markets does the same ass cm7.

I tried an aosp rom the other day, Ruby. It isn't quite stable yet (random reboots throughout the day) but its an interesting change of pace from a sense-based rom. The super smooth scrolling is really nice too!
In the end I went back to SRV due to the instability, but I made a nandroid in case a more stable update is released.

Whoa that sense clock is stunningly close to the official! Could you tell me the name of that widget? I've tried fancy widget (rides too high and close to the notification bar) and Weather & Toggle Widget (background cuts off at the bottom too short). Both are similar but not faithful to the original.. the one in your screencap looks identical to the original HTC one, minus the color scheme of course.

But the easyest way I heard it to rip the .apk apart with a program like a zip extractor and edit the files from there then rezip them and digitally sign the application

This is correct. You need to unzip it with winzip. Go to the \res\drawable-hdpi and edit the .png files that you want a different color. Then you need to use winzip and zip it as a .apk file then have it digitally signed and then zipalign it.

I have a nandroid of Virtuous 2.7 on my phone. Once I went Vanilla it's hard to go back to a Sense ROM. I think I'm going to give CM6 a run, but I have heard a lot about the instablility of AOSP ROMs and that kind of scares me. SkyRaider is rock solid, and would hate to go to something that's not stable.
Redemption
I've bee pretty happy with the Redemption Rom. Why?
Depending on what you want, stock app-wise, it's easily customizable as far as adding/removing what you want. Same story with the 'value added' goodies Lou bakes into the ROM itself. He included several apps in the load that I didn't know I would want or use, until I tried them - now they seem essential to any ROM, imho.
It's easily customizable via the links he provides in the main thread, and there's elements you can easily add/remove based on where he put them in the ROM itself.
For me, this one's my daily, and if you like sense, there's a menu of tweaks/options you can do with this ROM to make it all your own.
Agreed, Redemption is a great one. SR Vanilla, and Virtuous are also great. I'm loving Redemption though, great goodies, smooth, plus love the lock screen and notification window.
I do love SR's boot animation, with the Androids popping up...

The only thing I have against RR, (minor, to be sure), is the lack of support in ROM manager. I'm lazy, sometimes, and like to check for updates through it or am at work and don't want to bother with a mobile browser. I'm currently switching between Virtuous 3.0.1 and Shadow ROM.

FWIW, I have the stock clock with Myn's twopointtwo, also.
Isn't the stock clock part of Sense? I'm pretty sure you need to add it as a widget if that's a Sense ROM.

Have you changed from the stock lock screen to an AOSP lockscreen? If so, that's your problem. Most aosp lockscreens remove the HTC clock when you install them, because the aosp lock screen breaks the alarm function of the HTC clock. Perhaps that's the problem? Did u change lockscreens?

The easiest way would be to reflash the rom. Just wipe cache and dalvik cache, then reflash the rom. You could also just reinstall Myns htc lockscreen, then reinstall the clock app as well. Probably just easier to reflash the rom though.

If you don't want to reflash, here's the lockscreen/world clock apk's, but I don't think this lockscreen is the same as Myn's. I believe it's the Vaelpak lockscreen but I could be mistaken.
Thanks nhutpham. I will try this and let you know.
Thanks. I just re-flashed the ROM and it is working fine now. One more question. When I am talking to some one on the phone, I should be able to browse the internet too right? But for some reason I cannot do that. I am on the 3G network.

There are two gingerbread launchers on the market. You might try the other one.
Just use Sprint ID. Search for the "Clean" ID and apply it. It will give you the *real* Gingerbread launcher.

No, it only gives you the gingerbread phone icon and app drawer. Id icon is still on the tab.

Does anyone have a clue how to make the reg aosp launcher work correctly. Marcusant has the only rom that uses it. His Bamboozled roms use it as well and it looks great. I've even tried pulling the apk from his rom and just installing it on other ef02 eg22 roms, it works but looks like crap.
Not trying to be a troll or anything but AFAIK the only difference between the Sprint ID launcher and the standard launcher is the Sprint ID icon that cannot be changed, the menu and desktop UI is the same.

I'm sure someone will test on other builds... All good.
Not sure. But at one point I attempted to pull the system/lib/egl folder from marcusant's anonymous i3 ROM (it had a working stock launcher) and replace it on eh06, didn't work. Ai3 was 2.3.3. But I was trying to put it in a 2.3.4 ROM. Needless to say I don't know what I'm doing. But maybe that folder from Ai3 will work do for all other ef02 roms if this zip doesn't.
Out of curiousity. Now that we have this. Does anyone a zip of the actual nexus s launcher. I'm using one I found on here but its not completely stock. When you go into landscape mode it turns into the froyo launcher.

On the MIUI discussion. Has there yet been a MIUI published that has an App Drawer built in, or has the capabilities of using one? I tried MIUI a while back but could not get past it not having an App Drawer. I know I move the apps to a folder and have the folder docked but this does not work quite the way I want it to, that and I have over 130 apps, and this takes a long time to move them to a folder. To be honest it is the only thing holding me back from using MIUI again.

For one yes you can use any launcher you want and have an app drawer and second there is an alternative app drawer in android developement forum and the market.

Market launchers certainly work fine with MIUI ROMs.... Plus, if anything, you can just make a folder for all of your apps, set it to "arrange alphabetically" and just put all of your apps in that folder.

ok, no miui app drawer. if you have 130 apps then i would suggest you sort them by use/function in folders. ie. Social/Tools/Games/etc.
other then the miui.us version all the roms you see are themed variants with additional apps/build.prop tweaks. most are setup by Nick and his team.
i usually just download stock miui, and rip the build.prop out of nicks rom edit it to suit my needs, strip out the crap apps i don't ever use zip and install.

I said HE in the sentence, alan what the hell lol
So I'm really thinking about installing cm7 as I'm tired of the sad battery life on the MT4G, however, I'm finding it somewhat difficult to weigh the other pros and cons of switching from stock. There are plenty of threads and videos on how to do this, and plenty that talk about speed, but that doesn't really help answer my questions about functionality unfortunately.
Here's the thing: There are certain things in the stock rom that I don't want to lose in the process and I can't seem to figure out what I will gain and lose by switching.
Here's what I know so far about switching:
- I will have a longer battery life.
- I will lose the genius button functionality, but I can install that separately, so no big deal. I use this for texting handsfree while driving - just connect an audio cable to my stereo.
- The bloat is gone.
Here's what I can't figure out:
- How does the homescreen function without sense? Does it look the same? Do I maintain the built in widget sets?
- Do I lose the quick settings option from the status bar?
- Will my phone still wake using the trackpad?
- Will all the major abilities and apps function normally? Specifically messaging, Google browser, long press shortcuts (ie send link to: X using Y app), alarms, camera, GPS?
Opinions, advice?
TMO MT4G unlocked/rooted with Wind Mobile, running 2.3.4 (pre security update)
I suggest to move to one of the new non-T-Mobile Sense versions. Sense 3 or 3.5.
You'll retain the functionality that you want, gain some new one, most likely gain battery life, and won't lose the good sides of Sense that you're used to (widgets etc).
In the worst case, it's just a simple trial and error process - you can try different ROMs, and if you decide that stock suited you better than everything - you'll be able to install it, and probably even tweaked and customizable version of it.
I didn't know that there was such a thing. I don't mind losing the ”prettiness” of sense, I just need the functionality to be there.
Any rom names off the top of your head that I can look for?

Here's what I can't figure out:
- How does the homescreen function without sense? I don't even get this question. Does it look the same? Different types of Android look different from one another. Sense has its look. TouchWiz has its. Vanilla Android has its. Do I maintain the built in widget sets? If you go with another Sense ROM, then yes, you will most likely have more sense most ROM here now are 3.0 or 3.5.
- Do I lose the quick settings option from the status bar? In most of the aftermarket ROMs, you will gain more quick settings. Read about the ROMs offered here.
- Will my phone still wake using the trackpad? Most of the ROMs have incorporated this into the build.
- Will all the major abilities and apps function normally? Apps? Yes. Abilities? Depends on the ROM. Some have a few bugs, others don't. Camera seems to be a big issues on this aftermarket sense ROMs, but there's usually a fix somewhere in the thread for that ROM. Opinions, advice? After market ROMs are smoother than stock ROMs and obviously have better battery life as you know. They have much more that you can customize depending on the ROM. After market ROMs are ALWAYS better than stock. So, have fun choosing. Personally, I'm on Core Droid.

I always end up having issues with sense 3.5 roms and won't recommend them to anyone. Vu 2.39 is amazing though. There is also some mysense roms out there that will look just like your stock phone, I can think of about 3 off the top of my head.

Ok, a lot of good info.
How about opinions on the least buggy rom available at the present?
Reliability is good too.

Least buggy and most reliable is cm7.1 stable. Vu 2.39 is awesome and of course my debloated stock mysense is great too. Best on battery is cm7 though.

What happened to royalginger and iced glacier?
Virtuous Unity is a great start I'd say.

i've been using virtuous unity 2.39 ever since it went to a stable build. it has good battery life (better then stock) and the performance is great if you like the sense roms. if not i would cay cm7 is also the other one that you should try
if you wanted to go throwback, you could use cm6. I always got better battery life on it than with cm7 back when i used it... try miui. theme it if the looks bother you.

Virtuous Unity looks pretty good, so I'll probably go with that once I figure out how too add the swype keyboard....
