I'm looking at upgrading from an 8gb to a 32gb sd card. Do I just format the new card and copy everything over or am I better off wiping the phone and re-flashing CWR and my ROM?

Are there any specific files that would HAVE to be copied over (other than backups) or can I just put in a freshly formatted sd card and go?
There are hidden files on the stock sdcard that won't copy over unless you set your file manager to show hidden and system files, then use admin to copy. Just "copying" won't actually do the job

Back everything from the sd to a folder on your computer. I prefer using an sd adapter to plug the card directly into the pc. Transfers will be faster that way. Format the card in the pc. It needs to be formatted as fat32. I would use a cluster size of 32k. Copy any needed files back to the card and pop it back in the phone. Done.

Hi
I have a 16gb sd card.
I only have 4gb of music on it
But it says I only have 600mgbs left
How can I see what is taking up all the space on my card
Plug you phone into your computer and mount as external storge, then use your computer to look at what files are on your sd card and what size they are. There are also file explorer apps like astro, just long press a file and look at its detail, it will tell you its size.

I checked all the folders and they definately do not add up to 16gb.
Just wondering where all my memory is at
So decided to copy the entire contents of the sd card onto a folder on my desktop
When I did this it said the entire content was 4.11gb

Copy the files to a folder on your computer, then reformat the sdcard to FAT32, then transfer the files back onto the sdcard and see if that helps.

Does your phone report the SD card as 16GB? Also, do you have lots of apps installed to the SD? I don't believe these will show up when you are just copying files from the mounted SD.
Also, are you running Sense? I don't know much about this since I run CM6, but doesn't the HTC Locations program store all of its maps on the SD card (presumably also hidden)? Not sure how much space this would take up as well...
Copy the files off of the card and format it then move the files back. Make sure there aren't any unnecessary partitions or anything either.

Where did you get your SD card from? Do you know for fact (using it on other phones, etc.) that its really a 16 GB card, and not a counterfeit?
What is the phone reading the SD card total space as? My 16GB card is reading as 14.82 GB total space.
Fake 16 Gig card.
Phone: T-Mobile G2/Vision Rooted/GFree'd
Rom: Latest Cyanogen
Recovery: CWM waiting for Amon_RA
There is a thread in the Accessories section and tells how to check if the card is fake. The thread will have 16 Gig sdcard and where to get them. Sorry but I think you got a fake.

I would imagine this is a fairly common question, but I can't seem any threads about it, and the forum search isn't working for me.
I have Liberated Froyo on my Aria.
It currently has the 2gb SD card from AT&T, and I want to swap it with a 16gb I have.
There are some apps installed on the SD card.
I was wondering if anyone knew what I have to do to switch the cards while still keeping all of my apps/settings/files intact.
Thanks.

Copy the of old sd card to your computer. Then format your new sd card and paste the contents of your old card to your new one.
I would imagine you should move move your apps back to the phone, but I'm not sure if that's necessary.
But those steps will ensure you don't lose anything.

Alright thanks.
I had seen something about having to do different partitions with different file systems if there were apps installed on the SD card.
The current card is formatted in FAT, so just use that?

I just upgraded to a 16gb card today. I formatted it first(FAT32) then just transferred the files from my old card. Rebooted, just to make sure, and works just fine.
Nice, I'm gonna try that, how did u format it to FAT32
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
double click on "my computer" and right click on the directory of the card and select "format". then a window should pop up and you can select FAT32 under file system. I kept everything as default and started the format
Ok, thanks, will give that a try.
