Hello,
So tomorrow i am buying a used galaxy S. The owner says that it has some imei issue and you have to copy a folder everytime you reboot the device to get network signals. So is this problem fixable?
Secondly, what are the other things that i should check before buying? How to confirm its pure i9000 and not galaxy s M or L?
You could do a search of "restore imei" to find some more info. To check which device you have, go to settings/about phone/model number. Good luck
S.U.R.F.A.C.E 2.something
If it has imei issues I would be very wary of it, unless you know the bloke very well and he can prove phone history, it sounds hot to me, just my pennys worth

What other things should i check?
Sent from my Galaxy ace using Tapatalk
Turn off the phone. Then switch it on. Make some calls, send / get sms. Check few other apps, wifi connectivity etc. But if it has IMEI issues, that would mean there was a bad flash. Better ask seller to come clean on that.
Yeah he says bad flash. But question is that is this problem fixable??? How to check if battery orignal?
Sent from my Galaxy ace using Tapatalk
I saw over in the post for Juwe's Rom that some users lost their IMEI after a flash and he has instructions on how to rectify it but +1 to slaphead20 about being careful. If a deal sounds too good to be true it usually is....
IMEI gets corrupted through /efs. See this thread on restoring /efs
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859914&highlight=restore+efs
If a backup is available, it can be fixed.
Also check it will go into download mode, and be aware there is a universal imei number that is used by crims to fool people, I can't remember what it ends with tho, just beware

When posting a problem you have with your phone and finding a solution, it is polite to tell how it was fixed, just so that if others have the same problem in the future, they might be able to fix it with your solution.

Hey guys , was tying to restore factory kernal in Odin and accidentally did it under "phone" instead of "PDA"
I now have NO service at all . I have been having a massive meltdown for the past 3 hours until now . I have finally gotten my phone restored and good to go , except for having no service. Is this something any of youh guys know how to fix?
Sorry, no. Your phone is a goner.

I wish I was joking. I am sorry, but unless you can convince someone to leak a modem.bin for our phone, its a lost cause.
I have no doubt that one day we can fix this but right now we don't have the required resources.

Man ...if there is anyone i trust , its you . I cant believe one button has made my phone useless... So nothing that can be found in a system dump or anything? I mean im looking at $400 for a new one . So if there is ANYONE with this thing there would be like $200 in it for them . Really .
We haven't been able to dump the radio. The modem.bin exists but no tester is leaking it, likely for fear of their job. That said you have nothing to lose right now so if we can find a CURRENT radio for the Mesmerize it would be worth trying. Both US cellular and cellular south are currently selling it. Ask around and see if you can find something. I will check some websites when I get home but don't expect results.

Also keep in mind Froyo will most likely release with a new radio. If its a full radio file then it will probably fix your phone.

Man i wouldnt even know where to begin asking for such a thing. if you point me in a direction i will go .
well... i found something ...and i got nothing to loose ,like you said . So time to start flashing...
No, not a gsm modem! Don't do it.
haha thanks man , i was in a depressed rage there for a second and decided not to flash at the last second. Out of curiosity , are there EVER any modem.bins that leak out , or is this the type of situation where if i happen to get one it would be the first time ever? I mean if i wait is this thing one day going to appear , or is it pretty much just not going to happen .... give it to me straight .. i can take it ...
Unless someone gets brave, its not gonna happen. Unfortunately our GSM brethren have more balls and hence, leaks.

jesus.... well the bounty still stands haha . If you guys find a cdma that MIGHT work let me know . Guess im going to hop on craigslist and buy another. So i suppose if you guys ever need a testing device , im available! haha
Why can't you call samsung and send it back to have it reflashed?
I don't see a reason why they can't do this for you... i could be wrong and this is just an idea.

I was trying to surprise my wife with a new ROM and I accidentally put the wrong one in and now there's no network service on her GSM Nexus S 4G! I'm trying for hours to get this to work before she wakes up tomorrow and realizes its not working for her meeting. Please if anyone can help...i'll be up all night.
I've tried everything from full wipe to restoring back to GRJ22 ROM/ Pushing the radio via fastboot keeps saying failed. Help please guys.
GSM nexus 4G?
Yes and it's by Samsung. I can't find a radio to flash anywhere. Can you help, please?
Is this on Sprint or AT&T?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium App
It is on ATT i've searched all over the forums and decided to just post just now.
please read what you are flashing. i dont know anything about the att version so i cant say for sure if the other radios work fine. but for one its not a 4g, so DONT use the 4g stuff. the only 4g version of the nexus s is on sprint.
you need a gsm radio, perhaps try flashing one from teh nexus s forums?
I will try that...are there any you could recommend...like a compilation list?
Anyways...thanks so much for the quick assist. I haven't gotten anything to work yet but i'm going to try to search around the NS section.
I haven't seen any att radios floating around anywhere.
I had similar problem ... thankfully I had backed up efs folder ... if u have try restoring it... and then reboot

If your EFS folder is deleted/invalid you're out of luck, no fix for that.
Besides that, there's no working 3G radio for a Sprint NxS 4G on AT&T, it's technically not possible.

Can send in to Samsung, they might recover it for you (although the identifaction number is non-existant), but double check w/ them first.
guys hes not looking for a sprint gsm radio on atts blah blah blah. he has the i9020a. its att's model, its just a slight mix up on the 4g part.
you may have not lost your efs folder. you may have only just flashed a cdma radio thinking that was your radio. try flashing one of these and see if it works again

First things first. Check your imei and make sure its the same as the one on the back or your phone under the battery. If it is your efs is fine.
After reading the replies to this I am a bit disappointed. Where did he say he even touched his efs and/or his imei was corrupt. All the OP said was he flashed a rom and he no longer has connection. That could be a lot of things.

That doesn't say that he wiped it at all. He's just assuming what you said was the actual problem. And said he didn't back them up. Where did he say his imei was screwed up and how did you begin to assume that was his problem? You should have asked the OP to check his imei before you told him there was no solution.

I actually have a guy in mind who can fix your phone (I think)!! I read about him in some old book, dude has a soft voice, creeps some people out with his hippy message (all that crap about peace and love!) And was a carpenter before. He's really famous, most people visit him on Sundays, he's like the clean up guy from "Michael Clayton ". I'll talk to him, if he's not busy he'll pm you.

I had someone try to break into a property that I own and they dropped their phone which happens to be a Samsung epic 4g obviously, my question is I wanted to find out who this person is by going through their phone but its password locked. Is there a way I can by pass the lock screen somehow without resetting the device?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
You could get them clockworkmod 5 through odin, root them through it, then backup their phone, then flash a ROM and then you could go through there SD card for maybe some more evidence...
Sorry I can't post any links on how to, I'm in the middle of a class right now actually lol hopefully someone will be able to though. If they don't, ill be sure to later for most help on this stuff though you can just go to QBKING77 on youtube, he'll show you how to do all things on the Epic.
I'd take the ESN and call Sprint, tell them someone lost their phone and ask them to tell you the owner/address so you can return the phone. Then call the police and give them the info. Or just get the police involved now. Playing detective can be fun and all, but its almost always best to just contact the cops and let them handle it.
However, academically:
If you want to read the contents of the SD Card, just remove it an put it in a card reader...lol.
Now if you wanted to actually get into "their stuff" e.g. e-mail, sms. You'd need to do some more work as noted above. I think you could make a backup of their data in CWM and then purchase titanium backup pro to restore app+data or data only of their info.
Yup odin cm5 then back up, advanced restore data. Bingo

Yes, after clicking the link, it imediately shows the phones IMEI. So basically it goes around you click call button with that code on your screen.
Interesting. I wonder why mine's not vulnerable.
it also depends on the browser, stock i can see it, opera i can not.
also if you have anything like lookout or a similar app installed it may keep you protected
Stock browser: yes.
Security app: only LBE Privacy Guard. But I've allowed the system apps to keep all their default permissions, so the phone app shouldn't be affected.
So it's just the media being B.S. with the SGS III and Samsung? They're only talking about that... If I weren't a frequent visitor of XDA, my phone might be f**ked up at some point....
I can see the IMEI no. Just install the app to prevent other problem. Btw, im on GB.
