So it seems my phone is worse off now with the OTA update then before.

1. Lower Quadrant scores, before i was getting around 3000, now lucky to get 2300.
2. Menu seems to be lagging/ less responsive
3. New notification bar looks like crap
4. New icons are stupid
5. GPS takes forever to lock now
6. Unlock screen it very glitchy and slow
7. Battery life blows
8. No sound when text is receieved
did you wipe cache/data ?
Sounds like you need to downgrade!
Obviously there's a problem (other than your personal complaints, deal with it). The OTA is fantastic and improves the Atrix by leaps and bounds.
Factory reset.
+1 on factory reset given how your update to 2.3.4 was very problematic. I had to do a factory reset as well after updating to 2.3.4.

We have fruit cakes available for that.
Quadrant is concistantly slower with 2.3. Who cares? It's all about how the phone actually runs, rather than what some crappy benchmark tool says.
The only thing I can complain about is that my .nomedia folders are showing up in the gallery now. But then again I'm new to the device (and android) and haven't really learned that much about it yet. Loving the fact that installing unsecured apps check mark is now there, as well as the ability to remove facebook contacts from the contact list.

how do i factory reset? Will it go back to 2.3.4, or before? Also, would it get rid of any evidence of root?
My battery life improved pretty significantly and am getting quadrant scores of 3300-3400. The update has been nothing short of great for me.

Im not running the OTA and my phone is running flawlessly.
1. Unlock your bootloader
2. Flash Kens GB
3. Flash faux kernel
4. Download launcher pro
5. Enjoy.
My phone is very responsive, especially at 1.1ghz. My quadrant is 3315
GPS is still pretty slow to lock on tho

Tutorial:
1. Power off your device.
2. At the same time, press the volume down button and the power button on the back until you see the text "Fastboot" appear in the top left in corner of the screen.
3. Use the volume down button to scroll through all the options until you reach "Android Recovery".
4. Pressing the volume up button will select the option.
5. You should now see the famous Android Triangle Exclamation screen.
6. Tap the bottom right hand corner of the screen, just above the search key and that should bring you into the main menu of the system recovery.
The volume buttons will allow you to scroll through these menu items:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
To select the option, press "OK" in the lower lefthand corner of the screen.

I tried to reset. Hold the power and down volume until it says fast boot. Then it just sits there..until I press the volume up button. Then it says starting protocol and sits there for at least 10 mind and does nothing. I ha e to take they battle out to get the phone back in service.
Or you could always just go to settings->privacy->factory data reset. That's what I did .

When it says fastboot press volume DOWN 7 times and it will say android recovery. Then press volume UP to enter it.
Inside that menu volume up and down scroll and power selects.

Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA Premium App
I have most of the same issues as the original post, but a factory reset isn't going to help the ugliest notification bar in the universe that is covered with some of the most unrecognizeable symbols I've ever seen. Not to mention the putrid color scheme and other interface issues. No, the upgrade did not change my life.

I'm not too thrilled with the TV shut off animation when I lock the phone. And I liked the old notification bar and the color scheme before. All black with white text... simple, classy and stylish. This navy blue and grayish thing is too business for me Oh well I'm sure there will be a mod for this but I'm a super n00b so it'll be a while before I figure it out.
If I factory reset, how can I backup my data first? I'm coming from the iPhone so it was always backed up in iTunes. Is there something similar for the Atrix?

Nope, just flashed jm2, and rooted, nothing else.
Dunno then, might be normal. Its even worse with the lagfix kernel.

Hmm ok, thanks for you fast reply's!
OMG! are you guys for real!
this is >insert slur here<
a fraction of a second for the screen to turn on from off is normal on any phone device.
....
Don't label me with the same brush as the op. I was trying to ascertain if he had the startup lag from the custom kernel used for the lag fix with samset. I said it was probably normal - I refrained from calling him an impatient fussy so and so. Abuse him all you like, leave me out of it.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
How is this normal on any device? as my touch diamond didn't have it, my ****ty nokia 5800 didn't have it, my htc artemis, htc tytn II, do i need to continue?
It's 0.5s-1.5s. But mostly 0.5s, that's why i said that.
If you don't have a solution, just don't post , i flashed jp3 to try it out, and the delay i've got from jm2 is gone. Hmmm, guess the delay wasn't normal after all.
Damn, i feel like i'm on a chatbox with 12-year old's.
And no, i don't mean Bynar010 to be clear.
Hello all.
This wake up lag is killing me, coz its 1.5s most of the time.
I did apply the lag fix kernel, and that was worse at times. So now i simply reflashed it (JM5 now) and removed the SD card.
Is there anything else I gotta to to remove this fix, or re-flashing removes it ok?
Thanks in advance
I am also having this problem. It can be anywhere from half to three seconds . I have just flashed to jm5 and applied the one click internal lag fix. Anyone know what I can do to fix this. Thanks in advance.
Same problem here on JM2 + 1 click lag fix. I previously use JM2 + memocan and not found this problem. Wondering why others with 1 click lag fix didn't realize this since it's very longer (mine's about 3 sec).
3 second is nothing...
just pressing the POST button to this took more than 3 sec
In that case not only this phone sux, but your internet connection isn't much better..
Please just reply if you can help us with this problem. I like the phone, but the power-on delay is just annoying. I use it instead of a watch too. Wouldn't you care if you had to look at least 3 seconds at your watch before you could see the time, EVERY time you looked?
As i said, this is just annoying, other phones i've owned didn't have a delay like this, not even the WM ones.
i don't know about you, but the last WM phone and PalmOS phone i've had took at least 1 sec to display
yes i use my phone as a watch as well, i don't carry a watch with me
Just to throw it out there, mine lags about 0.25 to 0.5 seconds on average. I'm on JM5 without root.
Do you mean lag when you press the power button to unlock your phone, or when you switch on your phone? It's of course normal during switching on the phone. But I also experience a lag when unlocking the phone (~1 second). It only happens when I haven't used the phone for 5 minutes or more. Doesn't happen if I lock it and immediately try to unlock it again. I believe it's the chipset waking up from sleep or something.
@ AllGamer:
The ones i had: HTC: S100, Artemis, Kaiser, Touch Diamond.
They all went on faster. I didn't have the problem at first (with stock firmware), guess it started after my first flash (to jm2), but the problem stays when i flash back to the stock firmware, that's the strange part..
@ ssj4Gogeta1:
I mean the delay when you press the power (or home) button when the phone is already powered on, and it happens everytime, even when i press the power button, wait 5 seconds, and press it again. Nowdays, it's at least 1.5s every time.
Lol, would be great if i meant the power-on time.
the thing is, all phones i've had, will go slower and slower the more apps i install into them
the same applies to SGS.
to keep them fast, i always only install apps that i'm really going to use.
i used to clam every single piece of software i can put my hands on into the phone before, that always lags the phone to death.... although so far the SGS is holding quite well
still testing out a lot of software, but once i'm done i'm going to stream line it with only the stuff i want in it.
Regarding the delay with the Home button, that is not the same as Power button.
See now we understand you better, it does takes a split second after you wake up the phone with the home button.
however anything longer than 1 sec is not quite right, if you have that sort of lag, try optimizing the phone.
recent firmware updates like JH1 or JH2 depending where you are, have made vast improvement on performance
in the worse case scenario you can try the one click lag fix from the Dev section of the forum
are you still on the stock firmware?
I updated my phone to Bell Gingerbread 2.3.4 last week but it seems to me Froyo was much more responsive and was simply... better!
Here are the problems I've been dealing with:
-Scrolling the front pages from left to right on the home screens are not as fluid and the screen touch response seems it has a certain delay compared to Froyo.
-In the Music app, when you are in an Artist's album and you want to go back to the previous page (by clicking the back button), it directs you straight to the first artist on your list.
-The battery runs out faster
-The phone always has trouble getting 3G data connection when it enters an area that has network after being in an area without it.
-Updating apps from the market is soooo much slower than it used to be and it always messes up because the same app is downloading 3, 4, 5 times simultaneously...
-In the Gallery app, when in Landscape mode, let's say you scroll from right to left, you have to wait till the animation stops so that you scroll back the other way... If it hasn't stopped scrolling, it will not respond by swiping the other way.
-The start-up takes FOREVER to load and it always gets stuck about a minute or two in that "Dual-core Technology" logo...
-When calling someone, if you press the power button to avoid false contact between your face and the screen, when you finish talking and you want to press "End Call", you have to push the power button once more to re-open the screen.
I understand all those points are minor problems, but they're numerous and it upsets me that a phone with this much hardware capability isn't getting the proper update. I dunno, I just want to know if you guys have been dealing these problems as well, and if you know what I can do to fix them, it would be great!
Thanks in advance!!

the most upsetting one is the battery life. I could go for 2-3 days without recharging the phone. Now I can barely do 1 day. And I'm a really light user. I dont have data plan and just use wi-fi where availiable. I think its super weird that this update made the phone worse.
The only saving grace is the addition of zoom on camera and separate notification cancel. Thats about it.
I have not been facing any of these issues. For the battery, completely drain the battery until it dies and then charge it to 100% without unplugging it. Also, if you are a light user and are not on the phone all the time, I suggest using Maximum Battery Saver as the battery mode. Right now, I am running Bell GB with both suggestions, have 40% battery remaining and have been on the phone for over 16 hours on medium usage. I actually like the update quite a bit.

It's common knowledge. A lot of cache/files get left behind after an update that are no longer needed, or old copies when it should have new ones.
It's always recommended after you do an update from either OTA or Custom Rom that you do a factory reset to clear out any old data that might cause issues.
Titanium is one of the best. Doesn't backup your SMS though, so you'll need another app for that. And only restore the apps you've downloaded and their data. Don't restore any system apps or you'll be back in the same situation or worse.

ICS in Note
After upgrading to ICS via kies,
Battery seems to drain very fast.
Camera hangs up sometimes and other camera related apps like Instagram also but maybe the pic quality is little better.
It seems to crash when some other apps runs too.
Not sure if it was there before but I can pause music and video if I show my palm on the screen.
The screen rotates faster than in GB with a pause at the beginning though.
News fonts are good.
Window animations are good but still dont' know how to stop it since it might be draining battery fast.
Can use Chrome now and it's fast.
I cannot use Mass Storage Mode. I recieve a "Ui stopped to work" error.
I am facing,
1. High android OS usage. Sometime its higher than Brightness, and most of the time its highest usage of batt after brightness. (I read somewhere, it said its calculation errors, but I think its not, cause my battery no longer last that long.)
2. Camera will sometimes fail to operate. I really dunno what is wrong with that.
3. Phone just cant go into deep slp. Its being kept awake by some apps (Which I cant narrow it) Using BetterBatteryStats, I found out its I2_HSIC. (Whats this I2_HSIC ??)
I am using a 5400mAh mugen batt. previously on GB, my usage can last me 24hrs, now it can only last 16hrs or less. I installed lesser apps, and lesser widgets. Disable account sync and google backup. Settings more or less kept the same.

As far as #2 goes, go to your battery stats and see if "media" is listed. If so, force close it and try again. Seems to work for me. I'm not sure if it is just me or not because I have been playing with settings lately, but the media scanner tends to run wild it seems (also seems to lend to battery drain).
I am just disappointed that they left out some of the nice features of ics like the updated gallery and camera. Seems kind of lazy to me and no wonder things arent working well if they are mix and matching gingerbread and ics rather than going all in and starting development from there. Cupcake FTW!
Hi, all...
There are several apps available, like AdAway, franco.Kernel updater, Flash Image GUI and Flashify (for root users) that offer, upon completion of their appointed task, to reboot the Nexus 7.
These 'app initiated reboots' shut down the tablet INSTANTLY... unlike, when you shut down the Nexus 7 normally, via the power button, it takes a good half minute or so.
I get a sense that the normal shutdown procedure is closing down apps, and doing some cleanup before turning off the tablet completely.
So my question is this... do these 'fast, instantaneous app driven shutdowns' cause harm, or have the potential to cause data corruption?
The reason I ask is as follows...
For six months, prior to the arrival of Jellybean 4.3, I had a CyanogenMod Jellybean 4.2.2 Custom ROM installed on my Nexus 7, which provided me with an Advanced Power Menu... offering Power Off, Reboot, Reboot into Recovery, Reboot into Bootloader options.
Along with the AOSP browser (which is now available without root), this feature was invaluable, given the frequency of my booting into the Bootloader or Recovery.
Now on Jellybean 4.3, I really have no interest in Custom Roms, preferring to stay stock, but this app, Quick Boot (Reboot), from PlayStore, offers similar functionality as the Advanced Power Menu I mentioned above. And it performs as described.
But (and here, finally, I come to the crux of my point)... the reboot/shutdown options in this app occurs INSTANTLY... not over a few seconds, with a spinning wheel, with the words, 'shutting down' next to it as you would expect to see shutting the tablet down normally.
I would like to use this app on a routine basis, for booting into TWRP or the Bootloader... or sometimes just plain rebooting the Nexus 7. But the rapidity of the shutdown makes me nervous... like it's not 'ending stuff' properly.
----------------------------------------
I hope that somebody understands my question, and has some insight between the differences of a fast app initiated shutdown... and the normal shutdown procedure.
Thanks in advance for reading, and whatever light you can shed on this matter.
Rgrds,
Ged.
I think you're right in that is definitely a different 'type' of reboot. Can't remember what I was doing the other day but was viewing a log (can't remember if it was on n7 or s4) but had used either 'holo reboot' app or 'quick boot' prior to this and noticed a reference to a 'dirty reboot'. So the system definitely knows the difference. Not sure if it's any more harmful than a normal reboot.

I could be mistaken, but I believe its like a force shut down similar to holding the power button on a laptop to force off instead of letting it power down. There shouldn't be any harm caused, I always use terminal emulator for rebooting rather than advanced power menu due to the fact it's faster and I don't like waiting for the whole power down procedure. And my tab has never given me any problems.

I've noticed this problem from the day I got my phone (10/10/13). I'll experience a full second or more of lag when trying to wake the phone by hitting the home button or the power button.
It's pretty bad, so much so that I sometimes think I may have missed the button and go for it again.
Is this common? I've searched online and I haven't found anything about the Note 3 but I see stuff about it happening on the previous Note.
One thing u can try that made speed things up slightly is to go into developers options and turn off or change the transition animation scale, Window animation scale and Duration animation scale. It won't brake anything and it just may help a little. The default setting for each is a 1 so I'd either change em all to a 0.5 or turn em to off. And hell, if u don't think it helps you can always change em back. Worth a shot at least.

Nice tip. In all my years of Android tweaking, I've never come across that one. I don't need fancy screen on/off animations. I prefer quicker response time. Thanks.
This phone is fast enough to where you should be able to do screen on animation with no lag. I'd try wiping cache before disabling anything

I have noticed this too... bugs the hell out of me. i tried putting animations to .5 cause i think it makes the phone look like crap when set to 0, helped a little bit but it is still there.
I noticed this last night. I was missing the swipe to unlock because it was taking so long. Seems ok now, though.
I found a slightly faster response with the three animation options set to 0.
I think its a touchwiz thing my s4 did it stock and it went away with Hyperdrive rom but it came back when I was on cynanogen mod. I feel like my I wore out my power button lol it is a little loose.

Its a Samsung thing with the processor. The Note 2 was the same way. The easiest way explained to me awhile back....once your screen goes off...and all stuff running finishes up...you essentially enter Deep Sleep. It's a battery saving feature...if you will.
Manually turn off your screen, then like..2 seconds later, turn it back on. Should be virtually instant. Now do the same thing but wait 2 minutes....lag.
It is 'kind of' annoying, but I'll deal with it for the sake of battery life.
Now that we have root, you can always try to adjust governors and kernel settings to help it, but until we're able to use other kernels, it's gonna pretty much always be there, the lag, that is.
Hope that helps explain a bit.
The only way around it on the Note 2 was to force a wake lock, basically it never enters deep sleep. You may be able to use an app to do it as well, such as: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl
MikeyXDA was an advocate of the method and explained it really well on his MeanBean ROM for the Verizon Note 2. You just take a slight hit to battery, but at least there's no wake lag.

I have absolutely no wake lag on mine at all. I was expecting it like my Note 2 but I hit the button now and it's just on instantly.
Wake lag with sd card

I'm having a problem with wake lag bad sometimes - several seconds. Mine seems to be connected to the sd card. I have a 32 gb card I used in my note 2 with no problem, it's and sdhc i think. I cleaned it down to 8g of stuff on it and put it in. It kept causing note 3 to dis mount the card each time I turned it on; had a little message at the top left. Much of the time the card would stay dismounted. When I finished a call the screen would not come back on for a long time, couldn't end the call. Took the sd card out, problem resolved. Backed up the sd card, put it in the N3 and formatted. Got better results although still doing it some. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to get a new sd card or trade in for a new note 3.
Any thoughts. I would check the sd card if you still see long lags.
Try to freeze/remove S Voice if you rooted because S Voice is mapped to double tapping the home button. This helped me out a lot on the Note 2 and I removed it already on the Note 3 without comparing lag difference already
