I've done a bit of searching for my answer, however, am not able to find the answer.
I am having a problem running a restore in AD Recovery in the Magldr (v1.13).
Let me explain the situation:
I wasn't able to get App2SDPro to carry over apps to my SD card. I was informed it was because it was that I did not have an EXT2 or EXT3 partition on my SD.
I did that and then my SD was erased, but luckily I make regular backups of my SD card.
So I put all the information back on my SD card. I then realized that my ROM was erased as well.
So I tried running the backup I made from the recovery and got the error mentioned in the title.
I then tried to reload a ROM that I have on my SD at all times and then tried to do an advanced restore of the data and system and cache while leaving the boot but nothing works..
Am I destined to start from scratch, lol? (I had 140 apps installed)(and I'll be using a different form of backup next time, lol)
i have the same problem . while i was recovering from nand backup i have this notification 'Nand Kernel Open Failed'
Just flash again the kernel of your rom or the rom without wipe
you have to flash your rom om the kernel again and hopefully the problem will be solved
CLIO94 sorry i just see your reply
I must be doing something wrong.
I started with a 1.2 Nook Color. I flashed CM7.1 and Gapps from a CWR SD card. Got CM7 to load but had no status bar, and whenever I would try to go into CM7 settings it would force close. I tried reflashing CM7 2-3 more times, no dice.
So I reloaded 1.2 Nook OS. During the configuration, I couldn't get the keyboard to stay on the screen so I couldn't totally configure it.
Got myself a copy of Phiremod 7.1 and tried flashing this. Got it installed and tried to go to the phiremod settings and ....force close. Tried reflashing phiremod multiple times and still no dice. I get into the OS but I get no status bar and I can't adjust CM or Phiremod settings.
This is what I do
As suggested by a member of the forums:
boot into recovery
go into mounts & storage then format system
go into mounts & storage then format data (this is where it says format data failed)
wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache
flash phiremod
flash gapps
reboot...
Still no dice. After 6-8 installs I'm at my wits end. Please help.
just to be safe and not kill a new nook
i have right now a new nook color running 1.2.0
i want to put CM7
it the way described here will do?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=88qRbLLEAPQ#
1.install CWM on SD card with CM7 and gapps on it
2.delete system data cache
3.install cm7 and gapps
it this the right way?
Create image with CWR
Place CM7 and gaaps file on card.
Format system, data and cache and wipe Davlik
Install CM7 first, then install gaaps, pull card and reboot.
Note, if installing the CM7 7.1 stable do not install gaaps the first time. Install CM7, pull card and reboot. Then put card back, boot into CWR again and install gaaps.
Use version 3.2.0.1 of CWR!
the SD img CWM is 3.0.2.8

Have to be v3.2.0.1 unless you already did the repartition.
Hi
I'm running CM9 on my Nook I have 4-8 nightly installed. If I wanted to do a clean install (delete everything) in recovery do I just need to select wipe date/factory reset? Or do I go to Mounts and Storage and format specific mounts? Will I need to reinstall from an SD card or will clockworkmod recovery still be on the nook?
Also in older versions of CM9 under performance you could disable boot animation I no longer have that option. Is there another way to disable the boot animation?

To turn off boot animation, go to /data/property and create a text file named persist.sys.nobootanimation and put the value 1 in it. Set the permissions to match the permissions of the other files there.
A factory reset is all you need to do. That wipes data, cache, and any installed apps on SD. System gets wiped when you install the new ROM.
If you had CWM recovery on emmc already, it will still be there.
HI,
I've been on Cm 7.1 for a long time (on eMMC), and slowly running out of space on my 1GB /data partition.
I imagined I could repartition to get more space for apps (don't need the 5GB internal storage, I use 16GB sd card for my books/films etc), and by the way also update my CM to the newest Mirage Kang build of CM 7.2.
I am not sure though, how to approach it:
scenario A:
make a nandroid backup in CWM
repartition
restore the backup in CWM (I've CWM 3.0.2.8 - can it restore a backup when data will be > 2GB?, should I update the CWM to 3.2.0.1 first?)
wipe dalvik+cache
from CWM install CM 7.2 zip over the freshly restored 7.1
scenario B:
make a Titanium backup of all user apps/data + system data
repartition
full wipe
install fresh CM 7.2
restore user + system data from Titanium Backup
Which approach is "cleaner"? Will (B) work at all (user apps surely so, but restoring the system data of CM 7.1 to 7.2, wouldn't it break anything)?
Regards,
Maciej
B, sort of. You won't need to do a full wipe. I would:
Titanium Backup
Install 7.2 ROM, insure proper operation
Titanium Backup
Adjust partition
Install Titanium Backup
Restore, last b/u
Reinstall custom boot animation, (if any)

The cleanest way is to do it like Dean Gibson said in his repartition thread. Which is A. Upgrade to CWM 3.2.0.1 first so the reformating works properly. Then after everything is back running, install 7.2.
OK, let's leave repartitioning aside for a moment. What would be more "refreshing" for the system (when upgrading to 7.2):
1) Titanium Backup (user app/data + system data), then full wipe, fresh install of CM 7.2 and restore backup
or
2) simple install of CM 7.2 over the current 7.1 (without full wipe)
?
Or are they basically equal?

2. 7.2 is just a basic update of 7.1. You can do 1, but you are causing yourself extra work. Only do one if you were having operational problems with 7.1, like force closings, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I did as recommended (Dean Gibson'ish). I had hard times, because in the process of updating CWM, rebooting etc, BCB/BootCnt files on my 0p2 partition turned into a state, where the Nook only rebooted into recovery all the time. Fortunately after digging in this forum I could sort it out.
I have now repartitioned and updated system, thanks!
Cheers,
Maciej
