One feature I absolutely must have in a phone is tethering capability. Up until Nodo I've been happy with the work around via the EM app, however with the Mango update it no longer works. When the phone is plugged into my laptop with composite mode enabled, it doesn't charge or do anything. Is there any way to restore tethering capability without reverting to NoDo? I suspect that the EM app was updated which has disabled this functionality.
Edit: Uninstalled in reinstalled EM, which was previously v0.25 and now v1.08/1.10. Composite mode still doesn't work.
Ugh, I was hoping it was just me. Discovered this myself yesterday when I most needed to tether
Can anyone else on mango confirm whether their tethering works or not?
nothing here, no tethering with the mango version 7712 and em version 1.10
and the phone did not charge in composite mode and will not recognized by windows -.-

I've never had the need to use WMWifiRouter as a 3G to USB connection, but my modem at home is dead and won't be replaced until Tuesday. 3 days is quite a ways to go without Internet! So, I used WMWifiRouter 1.51 to enable the 3G to USB connection for my desktop PC.
After I was done with the 'net, I turned off WMWifiRouter and unplugged my phone. I then realized I needed to upload a few things on my phone, so I plug it back in to use it as a storage device. Problem is, my computer immediately detects my phone as a tether rather than the storage device. I've enabled the option so my phone asks me what type of connection it wants to create, but my computer keeps forcing the tether instead.
I know it's the way my computer is seeing my Touch Pro 2, but I was hoping somebody else may have run into the same issue before and found a resolution.
Thanks in advance!
I just used WM last night as a test, and then finally sync'd up my outlook 2000 contacts and calendar today.
Are you absolutely sure that WM has stopped running? I know on my diamond, the task manager option would NOT show some running apps after it was running without a soft reboot for like 2 months.
I haven't tried a "storage connect" yet though, I don't think I've ever used that.
I am absolutely positive it has stopped running completely. I used the built-in task manager with SKTools to verify. Even after a soft reset on my phone, my computer still does it.
Like I said, I know it's just the way my computer is now detecting my phone, but I was hoping somebody here had the same problem in the past.
I find it a little funny... I used my phone as a temporary solution to not having internet at home and now it only leads to more problems
Try uninstalling the drivers that your computer installed for the TP2, it would be in the Control Panel->Device Manager . Honestly i have no clue which one they would be but by doing this your computer will have to reinstall the USB drivers for your phone and re-recognize your phone.
Tried it. My computer installed it as a modem, but uninstalling the drivers didn't help. My comptuer would still detect it every time and reinstall the modem drivers.
Hard resetting my phone fixed this. It's the worst solution, yes, but it still worked. Fortunately, it only takes about 20 minutes to get everything back in order once more.
Thanks for the help anyways.
UPDATE: Ran into the same problem again last night. Fortunately, I found a better solution.
I made the USB to PC connection automatically connect to ActiveSync and disabled "Enable faster data synchonization." Disconnected and reconnected my phone and I was able to use the Disk Drive option once more without having my PC automatically see it as a Windows Mobile Modem
Hey
I've noticed a few people with this issue however they have been using different devices/computer setups therefore I wanted to see if anyone knew how to solve my issue.
I recently got a HTC 7 Trophy and love it, however I am dying to try out this wireless sync feature but it never seems to trigger and show up in zune as connected.
My Setup:
HTC 7 Trophy sitting on charge on one side of my room, connected to my wireless
Lenovo S10e Netbook running Windows 7 Ultimate with Microsoft Security Essentials AntiVirus
Netgear DGN2000 with WPA2-PSK encryption
when i wake my phone from sleep, the wireless is still connected but it has never shown up in zune. (yes I have setup wireless sync in zune and it successfully completed without errors)
what happened for me...
it specifies when setting up wireless sync that you need to have your phone connected to charger (not usb power from computer)for 10 minutes then wireless sync will start.
it took a good 25 minutes for me and then i noticed a driver being installed into windows 7. Zune then proceeded to being wirelessly syncing..
under device manager i've found
Portable Devices / LEO70 (its my hd2 running wp7)
under properties- device description - Value=Zune Wireless
hope this enlightens something
thanks! I'll leave my phone on charge for the whole day and check device manager every 30 minutes or so, now I just have to figure out why my phone isn't connecting to my home WiFi anymore
UPDATE: Still nothing, the phone has been on the network and charging all day without any drop outs and still not showing in zune, I have restarted my laptop once during the day because of windows updates but still nothing. I will try turning off windows firewall next to see if that is the problem.
UPDATE 2: It installed the driver, once, when I awoke the laptop from sleep with zune already running. I found another 'solution' that involves enabling some services from services.msc and turning off windows firewall with no success. really wish someone had the same problem as me :/

Click to collapse
to be honest, i dont see the point... during wireless sync, it has to be powered via AC adapter - disconnect power, and wireless sync stops...(now what sort of 'wireless' is that)
I know some users have docking stations but still it comes down to ...
*sync via USB - fast sync slow charge.
*sync wireless - slow sync fast charge.
You cant roam in your wireless environment and sync...
One day I can use it with no problems, then another my laptop will not recognize the phone is connected via usb. I'm sure someone will ask why not just use the hotspot feature, but because of T-Mobile putting a cap on the data, using the tethering option when I need to use my laptop stops them from sending me the text saying I've been slowed down. I have HTC Sync installed, but when I go to open that to make sure the drivers are still ok, it just sits saying no device is connected. Maybe because I'm no longer on the stock rom? I don't know. Basically in order for me to get it working again I'd have to restore my laptop to a date when it was actually recognizing the phone via usb. With all that I've written here hopefully I can get a resolution.
T-mobile bases their data caps on your total data used. Whether your using it over USB or WiFi doesn't matter. If you regularly go over 5GB you're going to get throttled.
As for your tethering issue, I'm unsure. It sounds like there would be a driver problem if the computer can't recognize it, but if you're sure that you have the proper drivers then I'm not sure whatsup.
I installed drivers using the HTC sync before.. can something happen after that to where they would stop working?
I'm running ansar's Tango ROM currently and I never noticed this 'feature' before. I do NOT have any reception at work.. and I barely can get a 1x connection if I put my phone 46 degrees NNE of the window beside the stockroom(just saying here... no signal at all here lol). But anyway, I was connecting my HTC Trophy(Verizon) to the computer to sync some apps through ZUNE. Tested an app and noticed that I could get on the internet with my phone while connected to the computer. In otherwords, Reverse USB Tethering I guess. Like my phone was pulling internet from my computer here at work. Make sense?
Is this a standard WP7 Feature? or is this something ansar put in the Tango ROM? I was just wondering because this is an OMFG BEAST feature to have due to bad reception(and I do mean BAD) at my work area. Thanks.
Edit:
Might I add this as well.. If you disable the 'sync' screen in the WPTweaks app, you can download apps WAY faster by connecting USB then then downloading the app.
My phone has always pulled internet from my phone when connected via Zune, even on stock software
Thanks, I never noticed. I wonder how it works? is it the driver on the kernel or something?
Hey Guys
about a week ago i opened a thread through the mobile app but i can't seem to find it, and it's not in my control panel. i guess there was some problem with the app...
any way. my problem.
starting from the beginning
I had a Wanamlit rom installed, version 2.0 if i remember correctly. tethering was working fine then.
i have formatted and installed a stock 4.2.2 ILO version (i have I9500)
and afterwards, tethering just didn't work anymore.
what happens is i can turn it on (through status bar or through options), i can recognize the network through my computer or a mobile phone, connect to it, it shows me that i am connected, but it shows me on windows that "no internet access". while through the phone itself i can connect normally to the internet. i tried to use USB tethering, but got the exact same thing.
what seems to be the problem? if you have any idea, i would be very grateful.
thanks
Really? Nobody knows?
