Yeah, great news, i love Asus for that, allways respect our customers!!!

A whole new set of roms, kernels and themes to come, very nice,it just keeps coming.

Asus is the best company in the world imho

Now the question is should we go back to stock and update to 3.2 OTA and get the update tomorrow or wait for a custom 3.2 ROM to be released?

I think we should wait.

Awesome. This is gd news! Thanks for the info nicknowsky.

Hey guys quick question, if you have stock 3.1 that's rooted and have clockwork mod installed, can you still directly update through the tablet or will the cwm and root cause problems?

No. You can not update through OTA when you have CWM installed.

It causes problems..

I don´t know if I´m happy with the 3.2
Take note, though: With Android 3.2, SD card support means something slightly different than what it's meant in the past. Whereas Android smartphones treat SD cards like regular drives, with full read and write access, Android 3.2 tablets view external cards in a much less PC-like manner. In short, apps can read an SD card -- but they can't write to it.
The reason: Google has switched to a new protocol for SD card handling in the 3.2 release. The thinking seems to be that with the high amount of internal space provided on Honeycomb tablets, most users will be turning to SD cards for purposes like media storage as opposed to application and app data storage. With that mentality, writing data from a tablet to an external card becomes less important, and a simplified user experience -- one that's less dependent on a user's understanding of file system structure -- becomes a higher priority.
To be clear, you can still write to a mounted SD card via your PC, using a USB connection; you just can't do it from the tablet itself. That means in an Android file manager utility like Astro, you'll be able to browse through the SD card and access its files, but if you try to copy files to the SD card or edit any SD-card-stored files, you'll find those options to be grayed out and unavailable.

I think that really sucks

I'll wait for the CWM flashable version. This is awesome. Asus does it right. Just give us quick vanila android update with minimal crapwares. That's all we want.

I'll be waiting for the updates of custom rom's as well, probably won't be long.

Let's see how many more 3.2 threads we can get!

What is NAND?
NAND is the internal memory on your phone. This means that these ROMS can be ran off your internal phone's memory, without it having to be on the SD card.
UPDATE: It WILL be possible to revert back to WM by just flashing an WM ROM!
http://twitter.com/CotullaCode/status/24870232359
UPDATE: Video has been posted of the HD2 booting from MAGLDR into Android directly from NAND!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWsxUWwUo_E&hd=1
Some information about MAGLDR on the htc-linux wiki:
Features
* Keep heads up for release: will be announced soon
* Choose between WM 6.5 / Linux-based OS
* WM 6.5 can be installed on NAND while Android could be launched from SD, or two Linux-based OS's can be launched; one from NAND and one from SD.
* Select different kernels (you can load kernel from list)
* TTY mode for developers. (ability to dump dmesg after crash, etc.)
* Built in Tetris (This is not a joke. It really has a Tetris game available that can be played with the 4 front keypad buttons.)
* Support YAFFS2 partitions flash via USB / from SD. Up to 8 YAFFS2 partitions.
* Support EXT2 partitions flash protocol (is this correct? please update talk page if not.)

Just asked Cotulla via Twitter. Let's hope we get an response! If I get one, I will update the opening post.
I am really looking forward to it but the sd card system also has its benefits.
To backup I simply copy the android folder to my PC and if something goes wrong, I delete that folder from the sd card and copy back the folder from my PC and I am good to go.
Also I can keep at least three Roms on my sd card and boot which ever I want to.
However, I think a NAND rom is a NAND Rom and has to be better than the sd card one.
delete mesage by me!
Can you dual boot? Or does it whipe WM6.5. And can you only
re-install by hard reset?
great news. i hope it will ease the consumption of the battery as long as sdcard consumes alot of power!
besides im going to hold the ground until people try this and see the ups and downs of android running off nand.

[Q] Problem while install Froyo 2.2 on Touch HD!

Hi everyone,
I am installing Android 2.2 (FroYo) On HTC [03 Sep 2010] (V1.6) on my Touch HD and got a problem with a message "Waiting for SD card". Could anyone help me to fix it?
Thanks so much,
Kevin
I have the same problem, my card is 4 GB of original Nokia.
Have you guys even bothered to look? Let alone to use the search option?

Didn`t work for me either on a 8 gb sdhc class 6 card but applied the 'steal your girlfriends one' trick!
Works as a charm now!
After installing Froyo in my HTC HD, I found that the camera cannot work anymore.
Hey guys,
I borrowed the old sd card from a friend then install the android and it works!
LOL My original SD card of touch HD didnt work. I think only old sd card works right now. make sure you format it with the tool here http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/
and the issue about the camera is not fixed yet. we have to wait for the next update i guess.
goodluck guys
cheers!

As it's and kernel related (driver like) problem and it just doesnt address the camera at all atm - there shouldnt be any risk - so it's like there would be no camera for the system.
But dont try pin me on that later
(Dunno if it also applies for testkernels,...)
Anyway - what u could have found is the standart termes - android is experimental - all at youre own risk - but there shouldn't be one atm (think i read it somewhere some month ago)

it's possible going back android 3.0 restoring to factory settings or I'll have problems with the new boot loader?

Yup, from me personally. I called Acer yesterday giving them a lot of flak. They told me over the phone to do a factory reset to roll back to 3.01 LMAO. Bunch of tools! I really pray someone is able to root it and able to flash CWM back on so I can dump 3.2. I love the microSD mounting in it but otherwise Im having a lot of issues with it as well including wifi dropouts which statically setting my ip alleviates. If no one can, I was lucky enough to grab one of those HP TP's 32 gig for $150 which I will gladly flash with Android once CM finishes up the port which is looking really sweet and then dump my a500 onto ebay.

Wifi dropouts you can prob. fix by changing the settings of your router:
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17708525#post17708525
Other issues a factory reset (clearing your userdata) may help if something installed before the update didn't like the update.
The reply may also be of interest.
I notice that after updating from 3.1 to 3.2 via OTA, I can now see my files on my NTSF external HDD's (both 500GB & 1TB).
Not only that, I can watch all my movies of the external drives too! The ol' 3.1 cannot do that.
But the big problem is, I cannot root it anymore since most of my apps are for rooted tablets only.
Hoping for another app to break the 3.2version to be able to install and run all apps for rooted tablets.

Add Memory to my N10

Hi there,
I got the N10 and I have run out of space already, so I bought a OTG cable and a 256GB USB stick, so I can load all the music and movies I need on the drive.
So I connect everything and no luck, so I try and std. 8GB stick and same issue.
Then I start reading and find that the best solution for me is probably Stickmount, or something similar, but I need to root my device to use it.
So here is my question:
I am happy to have the stock N10 SW installed and do not really need to load custom ROMs.
I would like to receive future std. OTA updates
So how do I root my device and maintain the requisites above. I have never rooted a device and do not know much about the process, so I would really appreciate detailed info/step-by-step info... I have access to a PC, but use a mac, so is there a SW solution for mac to root?
Ps. what are the downsides of rooting, if done as I requested? and What are the typical Nuub mistakes?
Many thanks,
Nick
You can use an app called Nexus Media Importer to mount an external USB drive without root.
Use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003938.
This gives you root without unlocking and OTA should works.
Don't bother part that unlock is necessary - is not (for me and others is not - you must try by yourself).
For drivers use Universal Naked one.
Good luck!

It's very easy to both root and unlock. You also open up a whole other side of apps that aren't available to you on stock

OK, I followed the thread and rooted my gn10.. I also downloaded an app that let's me lock and unlock my boot loader without wiping the device...
If I still want to get the ota updates, what do I need to do/what mode do I need to leave it in to make sure I get them? Locked or unlocked? And will it be an issue the my device is rooted?
Also, what is the latest gn10 ROM available? I have 4.2.1. Is it worth upgrading and if so, which is the best ROM out there and how do I find it and install it?
Many thanks for all your help!

To receive the OTA updates you don't have to do anything except check when they're available! 4.2.2 is the latest, within you may want to check if it's available.
Rooting simply lets you access the root of the device, it won't stop updates or anything similar. If you update to 4.2.2 OTA you may lose root, you can easily get it back by using the same instructions as you followed to root it in the first place, or use the toolkit. Or you might not lose it, and either way it's no big deal, you can always check to see if you have it anyway.
Custom roms are more daunting but they're really not that hard, if you feel up to the task you will have to make sure you have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed, then it's just a case of wiping the device and installing it. There are loads of videos on YouTube that can help you do it, and and countless threads on here. Paranoid android is my favourite, if you install a custom rom kiss OTA updates goodbye, when a new version is released it usually comes with all the updates.
Question directed at OP: Where/which OTG cable did you get? I'm considering one so I can hook into my external media HDD.

New update today: Update 77

The new 460MB update is 77. I am wondering if the lag issues with emulators have been fixed. They are apparently allowing moving some apps to the sd card with the update. Curious if that also opens the door for sd card writes for other apps..... probably a big No.
Update: Apparently no improvement with emulators.

The emulator issue is still there, but now do not think this is a Shield issue as much as an app design / Kitkat issue. The Nexus 7 has the same problem. As far as moving apps to SD, moving Asphalt 8, MC4 and Vice City moved only 200MB out of the 5.5GB from the three apps. Moving 4% hardly seems a value add.
Seems the devs will have to make changes to their apps. It is mainly the Broglia emulators. His are the best as far as features and much better than Retroarch as far as features and the ability to place apps in their own directories. Controls are native to Shield as well.
Hope the dev fixes them, since not looking good for an OS solution.
I will stick with 4.2. I added a 128GB card (needs to be formatted in FAT32) and have one serious emulator station. Scree is too small for me for PC gaming, so will do fine.
I'm on update 77 and rooted the shield without installing custom recoveries. Just root it with the git root method and switch governor to performance and Bam! All issues resolved.
I was pissed off enough after reading all the things Shield RAM does only to find that is utterly useless.
IMHO the clean method to gain root should be the only good thing to do since it's pretty straight forward and makes you able to receive and install OTAs.

I don't have any emulator lag as far as I can see with my Shield even with the latest update (pairing still works)
Is there a way to go back to 4.2? Tired of the emulation lag and battery life is definitely worse on KitKat. I mostly play emulated games and some Android games - no PC streaming as I only have a 560 Ti
Sent using radio waves of some sort
still wondering what emulator lag people mean, so far I have no lags at all in emulators.
if you wanna go back to 4.2, download an older factory image and flash it.
You don't have to be a developer to download it, create an account at Nvidia gameworks and apply for the developer program.

Don't disable it, clear data. Then check system updates again. However, you must flash the stock recovery to actually install it, so look for ShieldRAM and use that to do so, install the update, then use ShieldRAM to flash a custom recovery and re-root. Done. Takes about 10-20 minutes but it's really easy.
