it's possible going back android 3.0 restoring to factory settings or I'll have problems with the new boot loader?
I have problems browsing with my home wifi networking (but not with wifi-3g router) and I want back an old version of S.O.
If you flashed the 3.2 FOTA, then no, you can't go back.
I'm sad
thanks for replay, it's a big problem for me now I can't browsing at home with my tablet that's a real pain in the ...
I hope soon to find a a solution
Why not from 3.2 to 2.2?
New bootloader has you locked in. Currently no rollback to any version. I suppose Acer will catch a lot of flak on this.

Yup, from me personally. I called Acer yesterday giving them a lot of flak. They told me over the phone to do a factory reset to roll back to 3.01 LMAO. Bunch of tools! I really pray someone is able to root it and able to flash CWM back on so I can dump 3.2. I love the microSD mounting in it but otherwise Im having a lot of issues with it as well including wifi dropouts which statically setting my ip alleviates. If no one can, I was lucky enough to grab one of those HP TP's 32 gig for $150 which I will gladly flash with Android once CM finishes up the port which is looking really sweet and then dump my a500 onto ebay.

Wifi dropouts you can prob. fix by changing the settings of your router:
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17708525#post17708525
Other issues a factory reset (clearing your userdata) may help if something installed before the update didn't like the update.
The reply may also be of interest.
I notice that after updating from 3.1 to 3.2 via OTA, I can now see my files on my NTSF external HDD's (both 500GB & 1TB).
Not only that, I can watch all my movies of the external drives too! The ol' 3.1 cannot do that.
But the big problem is, I cannot root it anymore since most of my apps are for rooted tablets only.
Hoping for another app to break the 3.2version to be able to install and run all apps for rooted tablets.

hopefully really soon
No Doubt!!! There are some really big fixes in that list. I'm glad Verizon is taking the time fix the issues before pushing out the OTA

there are a couple devs working on a rom for this new leak, which is actually LEAK VS. 4.
Two devs have a basic rom they are working on, and another dev is about to start an update to his rom. so just hang tight, a rooted version of this will be available shortly, like a day or 2.
Oh FINALLY some action up in this place. This is cool.
Hey eclipse, what was v3? I'm with the OP; I thought this was.
there was the 2.1 developer ROM,
then the 2.1 Leak w/o root
then the 2.1 pre-OTA
then this one.

This one is tempting to upgrade to. I think I should wait I'm still on 2.1 v1 but holding out I know once I upgrade to a higher version v1 will be rooted days later.

This v3 leak is for the leaked people, but it does not help us in any way get root.
Digging the update, but...
My market is still devoid of several apps.. I'm non-rooted (early leak adopter), so it doesn't seem jcase's fix will work for me.. just wanted to share in case A) someone else was trying to figure out whether v3 fixed this problem, and/or B) I'm an idiot and someone else knows what I need to do to see the full market..

It's not just you and you are not an idiot. The short answer is that the problem lies with google, VZW, and HTC. HTC has to give google a final build number before google can authorize full access to the market.
In short we won't get full access until we a) get root or b) VZW releases an official OTA.
has any of you leakers installed this?

It causes problems..
I don´t know if I´m happy with the 3.2
Take note, though: With Android 3.2, SD card support means something slightly different than what it's meant in the past. Whereas Android smartphones treat SD cards like regular drives, with full read and write access, Android 3.2 tablets view external cards in a much less PC-like manner. In short, apps can read an SD card -- but they can't write to it.
The reason: Google has switched to a new protocol for SD card handling in the 3.2 release. The thinking seems to be that with the high amount of internal space provided on Honeycomb tablets, most users will be turning to SD cards for purposes like media storage as opposed to application and app data storage. With that mentality, writing data from a tablet to an external card becomes less important, and a simplified user experience -- one that's less dependent on a user's understanding of file system structure -- becomes a higher priority.
To be clear, you can still write to a mounted SD card via your PC, using a USB connection; you just can't do it from the tablet itself. That means in an Android file manager utility like Astro, you'll be able to browse through the SD card and access its files, but if you try to copy files to the SD card or edit any SD-card-stored files, you'll find those options to be grayed out and unavailable.

Stock US ROM, whatever the latest Honeycomb version was. Absolutely pure stock; no rooting or unlocking or anything. Just the updates that had been previously accepted from Motorola.
Well, seems like you're one of the first on XDA to get it. Browsing other threads and I see no mentions of OtA pushes.
Still going to flash back to 3.0 and see where it takes me!

I believe that the update will only be pushed out to GED (Google Experience Device) Xooms, thus precluding UK Xooms to the update. You could try using the Motorola GED fastboot images to "restore" the GED firmware, and then waiting for the OTA. At that point, though, I'd wonder why you wouldn't simply just want to install one of the custom ROMs I mention in my XDA portal or BriefMobile posts.

Indeed. I'm starting to find the approach to OTA updates by Google a bit hap-hazard quite frankly. It's the same with my Galaxy Nexus. Some people I know who have purchased the phone recently have 4.0.2 on their GSM phone. I can't even get the OTA for it!
I've never stayed stock on any devices but as these devices get crisper I've tended to look at staying stock.
The only reason for me not to currently is the piss-poor way in which OTAs are managed. This Xoom update might just be another example.

Hello guys,
I have a Motorola Xoom and I can't wait to get ICS. When I browse the ICS topics, I see a lot of people who changed their xoom version to US, fe from Canadian to US. I don't know wich version I have, but it's not a US version, because I still don;t have the upgrade. If someone could maybe give a short description of how to change it to US, I would be so gratefull!!!

Thanks! I only hope this will work for mine, since mine is probably Dutch or European and the description is for UK or Canadion Xooms. But i don't think that should be a proble. Anyway, I'm gonna try and pray that it works!

It works fine. I did it myself a few months ago, flashing my Canadian Xoom with the US ROM, after which I was obtaining the US OTA updates. I don'T remember which procedure I used however, but I can confirm that there's a working procedure somewhere here on the forums.
I got it unlocked and every image would flash ok, apart from system.img. I really don't understand why. I followed the tutorial word for word and obviously I was doing something right or I wouldn't have been able to flash the other images.
In the end I just installed CWM and flashed Team EOS ICS from the recovery.
Worked Great and First Time on my brand new UK Wifi Xoom
Just bought a Wifi only xoom today from carphone warehouse and was a bit dubious about doing this, not wanting to brick my brand new Tablet.
I thought stuff it though, if doesn't work it can go back in the same afternoon that I bought it and I'll get a Refund (was last one in stock, due to them selling them for £249)
Anyway,
Worked a charm once I found the folder where the fast boot was hiding within the zip file.
Took a little while to do, but dead easy
The one thing I did wrong at first was not noticing that each image file had the same filename name written after FLASH and before the filename.img too
(i.e written twice on the command, must be going blind in my old age)
The longest part was going through all the updates on the xoom until finally getting ICS.
Working great now though.
Thanks guys for a great tutorial.
Dean
Are you HK or taiwan version? These problem is almost in these two version.

Were you able to convert yours? I've got a US wifi version, but my dad has a Canadian version and he wants me to convert it to a US version for him.
What happened with the system.img the screen shot seems to suggest it started? Couldn't see any error?
It takes longer to push the system.img over if I recall correctly its a much larger file ...
Edit oh, checked again and saw the fail. Odd. I can probably find and upload the system.img that I used if it would help.

Hi there,
I got the N10 and I have run out of space already, so I bought a OTG cable and a 256GB USB stick, so I can load all the music and movies I need on the drive.
So I connect everything and no luck, so I try and std. 8GB stick and same issue.
Then I start reading and find that the best solution for me is probably Stickmount, or something similar, but I need to root my device to use it.
So here is my question:
I am happy to have the stock N10 SW installed and do not really need to load custom ROMs.
I would like to receive future std. OTA updates
So how do I root my device and maintain the requisites above. I have never rooted a device and do not know much about the process, so I would really appreciate detailed info/step-by-step info... I have access to a PC, but use a mac, so is there a SW solution for mac to root?
Ps. what are the downsides of rooting, if done as I requested? and What are the typical Nuub mistakes?
Many thanks,
Nick
You can use an app called Nexus Media Importer to mount an external USB drive without root.
Use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003938.
This gives you root without unlocking and OTA should works.
Don't bother part that unlock is necessary - is not (for me and others is not - you must try by yourself).
For drivers use Universal Naked one.
Good luck!

OK, I followed the thread and rooted my gn10.. I also downloaded an app that let's me lock and unlock my boot loader without wiping the device...
If I still want to get the ota updates, what do I need to do/what mode do I need to leave it in to make sure I get them? Locked or unlocked? And will it be an issue the my device is rooted?
Also, what is the latest gn10 ROM available? I have 4.2.1. Is it worth upgrading and if so, which is the best ROM out there and how do I find it and install it?
Many thanks for all your help!

To receive the OTA updates you don't have to do anything except check when they're available! 4.2.2 is the latest, within you may want to check if it's available.
Rooting simply lets you access the root of the device, it won't stop updates or anything similar. If you update to 4.2.2 OTA you may lose root, you can easily get it back by using the same instructions as you followed to root it in the first place, or use the toolkit. Or you might not lose it, and either way it's no big deal, you can always check to see if you have it anyway.
Custom roms are more daunting but they're really not that hard, if you feel up to the task you will have to make sure you have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed, then it's just a case of wiping the device and installing it. There are loads of videos on YouTube that can help you do it, and and countless threads on here. Paranoid android is my favourite, if you install a custom rom kiss OTA updates goodbye, when a new version is released it usually comes with all the updates.
Question directed at OP: Where/which OTG cable did you get? I'm considering one so I can hook into my external media HDD.
