So i just got off the phone, with a Dell rep from India and what he told me was that DELL closed their Texas US call center. I called 8 times and every time got the same guy in India.
Can anyone confirm this?
I have been told the same thing and have tried calling over and over to see if I could get the texas call center but it was always an indian who answered.

Yet another reason to say bye, bye to DELL. I'm glad I finally have the .212 update -- and yes, it is fast! 8 months later I feel like my phone has finally been delivered --- anyway ...
Corporations will abuse us until we stand united and say enough is enough! Period.
Now, I'm off to use my phone and not have it lock up! @quantumforce1
anyone manage to update with a different SD card in that originally came? I upgraded to 32 from 8 and am trying to anticipate problems.

Actually thats why i wanted to talk to them. The rumor was that you could replace the card and they'd still honor the warranty. I wanted to check that. What the guy in india told me was
"I'm sorry sir it is not possible to upgrade the memory on the phone the chip is inside the phone"
Not only does this tell me they either don't know or they are told to tell us we can't do it. Which also says they won't honor an upgraded phone.

Dell's position from the start has been that changing your card would void the warranty. Some have been told otherwise by Dell reps but that has never been officially confirmed so its wiser to assume the warranty will be void. An upgraded card shouldnt affect the firmware update or later update to Mango. Upgraded to Nodo and the security update with a 32GB card myself no problem.

I wouldnt go more than class 4, other WP7 handsets have issues with higher classs speeds, check the Samsung Focus and HD7 forums. Most recommended card is a class 2 Sandisk 32GB, seems to work for most.
Thank you for your information.

Hey, I wanna share this for all TMOUS user. Quote this from another post
"Just wanted all to know, HTC has recently acknowledged an issue with the 16GB SD card that shipped with the US T-Mobile HD2. T-Mobile issued an internal bulletin to this effect and provided a US number (888.356.2375) to call to arrange to have the SD card replaced, from Level 2 to a Level 4 SD card. Alot of HD2's had the Level 2 card installed and this card was found to cause the phone to freeze. The Level # is indicated by a circle with a numeral in the middle of it. Usually on the upper right hand side of the SD card. When you call the number HTC provided they will want you to have the HD2 in front of you with IMEI and S/N ready. The unique thing is HTC has rescinded their policy to send the 'bad' SD card back so if they send you a replacement Level 4 card you will end up with 2 SD cards. (I'm sure that Level 2 card could be reused somewhere) This info is probably even more useful to owners that have installed Android Froyo 2.2 on their HD2 as I have. The ROM's are usually contained on the SD card itself and not flashed internally. HTC does indicate a backorder on the replacement SD cards (up to 2 weeks or so) Hope this helps some of you with the freezing condition."
Hope this will some how help the screen freeze problem. Yay for a class 4 card. I just call in and order my. Very easy and free. Cheer
Edit: oh yeah, and make sure you don't tell them that you reformatted the card. Make thing less complicated.
Update:
Just to clear out a little bit here. When I got the information, this is not an OFFICIAL recall or replacement service. It was really much just a tip from someone that has this done.
They were willing to replace the card for people because they acknowledged that the card do have problem. And they posted the information originally only for people who has problem with the card.
So if you happen to call in, please be aware that there is no such thing as replacement or recall service. You suppose to report a problem with your card. That worked for many people. They just asked for the IMEI or S/n and don't even care about if you are T-mobile customer or not.
Now, seem like there is a high volume of people calling in about the replacement service that they didn't aware. They must started to pick up on that and suspend this service or something until further announcement. If they refuse to give you one, it's because of this.
Update: I just got mine and a few people have confirm. It is a Samsung Class 2 sd card. Please keep the posting about what card you receive so everyone know. Thanks

Thanks for the info, just ordered mine as well. Told me about 1-1.5 weeks to ship out.
Thanks for the tip just ordered mine
Although the guy thinks it will still be a class 2 when it comes in the mail which doesn't make sense so hopefully he is wrong.

I also inquired into the Class specification of the SD card and my rep. did a check with the warehouse to see if she was unaware of the change to send out Class 4's and came back saying that at this time there is no order for them to be sending out Class 4's so they will be sending me a Class 2 card. But no need to send mine in. So... still Win? I get to have 2 now so I guess.
dang it works. Just ordered mine too, and the lady was really nice and helpful. Was just asking for S/N and some basic info and address to ship the card to. She did say that the new card will be a Class 4 card, and will arrive in about 2 weeks.
Thanks a lot for the info man.

Yep exactly the same here, it would be nice if it was a class 4, but makes no difference to me I'm not running the stock card anyway but I won't turn down a free SD card..

ya, only took a couple minutes. the acted kinda hesitant at first. he asked me where i was getting this information, and i read off that quote to him in the first post in the bold letters. so i pretty much told him i was reading it off of T-Mobile's website. he started to laugh and say something like "i was just curious where everyone was getting this information because i've gotten like 10 phone calls in the last 30 minutes about this, and we don't know anything about it."
i was scared that it wasn't going to work at first, but the only thing i gave him was my name, address, and IMIE #
he said it would be replaced with a class 4, didn't give me a time frame, but if it's free i'll be happy to wait.
crud i didnt think to check the type of card, I just assumed it was a class 4. Oh well, free card and it was super fast. She said it will ship in 3-5 business days. Woot!
As you may know, Bell Mobility has released the Android 2.2 (I9000UGJK4) update for the Galaxy S (Vibrant) on December 10, 2010. That update has caused a number of (additional) freezing issues and many phones crashed a few days after the update. Bell and Samsung reacted by withdrawing that update.
The good news is that a new update Android 2.2 has just been released today under the version name I9000UGJL2. An internal Bell email stated that Samsung found the bug that caused the freezing and crashing and was able to fix that with the latest update. The update will be available starting today, December 24 using Samsung Kies.
Also, if you have a Samsung Galaxy S that crashed after the first Android 2.2 update and should be sent for repair, you can call Bell Technical Solutions at 1877 328-2123 to create a repair order. You will also get a $100 credit to your account (due to the inconvinience according to Bell).
I hope this information is useful to some of you.
Happy holidays!
P.S. Too bad I cannot edit the title. The version of the new Android 2.2 update released by Samsung/Bell on December 24 is I9000UGJL2, not I9000UGJK4 as stated in the title. The I9000UGJK4 is the problematic update that was released on December 10.
Can anyone verify this? (The credit. I'm aware the JL2 firmware has been released.) I just got off the phone with them earlier, and they stated they were unable to create a repair order on the phone and to just bring it into a nearby Bell World store.
I brought my first SGS which died into a Bell World a few weeks ago and they sent it to get repaired. I got no credit or anything, and they refused to reimburse my account.
There is an intermittent problem with the repair order system but the rep. can keep a note to do it later when the repair order system is fixed.
The $100 credit is confirmed. I posted the info. here because some Rep. may not read the info. or simply not bother spending time giving you the credit if you don't ask for it.
Nice, this boost a lot of condifence to update my phone. I will wait for a few more days tho lol, I am such a chicken. Don't want to brick and send to repair again

I have also bought the phone using kijiji.ca but only payed $380 for it. I never updated it since it doesn't suffer from any major freezing issues and I don't want to take the chance with these updates. I will wait for a week to see if the recent Froyo update worked fine before applying it to my phone...
Phone warranties should also be handled directly by the manufacturers. The problem is that there is no consumer protection law that forces the manufacturers to do that in Canada and they feel little or no pressure from cellphone buyers since probably more than 95% of them buy their phones from the service providers.

It is a $100 credit applied to your account if your phone crashed and should be sent for repair. The credit will be applied if you call a Bell Technical Solutions rep. to create a repair order for your phone. This process only started today, December 24.
Called Bell TechSolutions and they applied $100 credit to my acct (since I got my Samsung Galaxy S replaced)
has anyone else convinced a rep to send out a new phone even though yours was out for repair? How did that go for you?
I ask because I got a rep to do this, but I later learned that you need to send back the broken phone. I don't have the broken phone because it's already being repaired and I really hope I don't get caught in some Bell policy loophole.
just a note
you wont get the $100 credit if you are not in a contract with Bell
I just recieved an update message on my phone while it was connected to my computer. It said it was for the Feb Update.
Yeah you can force the update by following the tutorial here : everythingwm.com/new-nodo-workaround-arrives/2011/03/29/
Thanks, I tried the link. I ended up turning on airplane mode, then turned on my WIFI. THen I connected my Phone to Zune and looked for an update. About 20 secs I turned off the wifi and it updated to Nodo.
I still see the firmware was not changed and still dont see all the memory. The EM app is still the same.
And it still freezes with WiFi on. :-(
For all Dell Venue Pro users, a small warning. Using this technique your phone will identify itself as a European (unlocked) phone. Technically Microsoft should still see it as the Dell Venue Pro, but we all know that there is a difference between the European (Indian / Global) and US version of the phone. The first one has 512MB ram, while the latter only has 256MB (approx.).
So, identifying as a European version might not give you a firmware upgrade! Again, as the UK version has not yet been shipped, I can't be sure totally, but it does seem a plausible reason for the differences in 'firmware'. (Some users reported firmware upgrades, while others don't [see above].)

In terms of changing the SD to 32GB, is it better to do so before the no-do update or after? Or does the update really not make a difference?

I doubt it makes a difference. I would definitely not try it during though
I have only gotten the pre-nodo update. Also i talked to a Dell mobility rep about a week ago, and she told me that the firmware update will correct the 512mb issue. She told me this was the root of all the issues.
Dell has confirmed (on Twitter) that NoDo is rolling out now and that a separate firmware update is coming later:
http://twitter.com/#!/LionelatDell/status/52939756748816384
http://twitter.com/#!/LionelatDell/status/52940654199836672
No I don't, but what I meant was that only 256MB is accessible (which we do know for sure). I'm still hoping (and I tent to believe so too) that there is actually 512MB in the device, but the firmware is 'wrong'.
However, the Europe / Global version of the phone has 512MB of RAM already available (different firmware?) and thus not need the same fixes as the US one. So forcing the global version of NoDo on your phone, might not always be a good idea. (I know that, for now, there is no indication that there is any fix from Dell in the NoDo and it might all work out. Still I would be cautious...)

Dell is making weird comments all the time, I would like to see that D2D post before I believe a fix is coming... First they said it would be rolled out with NoDo, now it comes later. Hopefully 'later' does not mean 'by the time the DVP2 comes out', but only time will tell.
I got an update yesterday but was the pre nodo I guess cause no dam copy paste. Oh well. I think its going in the drawer and will just use my Epic till mango arrives. I am over all this crap

You can get one fix but not both This is why the Dell Venue Pro specific update(most likely firmware) is still needed and will hopefully fix all of these issues(hopefully).
BTW, are you on Fido in Canada? If so, I did not know that Dell released a version of the DVP with Fido/Rogers frequencies.

Hi,
I live in France and I bought the tablet to England via the Internet on June 3 .When I used for the first time, it offered an updated version ,Acer_A500_1.126.03_com3_gen1 and nothing since. I think I have a Chinese version because I have done a factory restore and was in Chinese.
Is it possible to change the version to have a French version? and why I did not update OTA version 3.1?
Thank you for the answers.
Excuse my bad english.

The customer service in England is very good, the problem is you phone up and get a call centre in India !!! Once you get past the Indian call centre and talk to someone in England you do get results.
With updates not happening to tablets I am told that the UUID number must be on the database, if it is not then you need to get it added, this means phoning up Acer.
I am also told that if you have "rooted" (aka hacked) your Iconia tablet then you are no longer covered under warranty so be warned !

Wow.....that's so great.......I call up acer customer care here in india and they say they don't know anything about the update.....they say it might take a month for indian users to get 3.1....those idiots don't know that the indian users already got the update.......they know nothing about a500.........even the online chat service is rubbish......I have to go to the us site chat online....explain them everything why I contacted them instead of the us site and then ask my questions!
Sent from my XT720 using XDA App

Kernel version 2.6.36.3

Installed and updated, that's whats in the UK.
so we are really lucky in thailand because we can go to the customer care center directly, and we not get an indian call center... since we speak thai that will be crazy.
and better root a device will not broke our warranty that i know because it is the customer service acer care told me in person.
Hi All, I know this question has been asked a thousand times on all forums but I fail to get any reply out of it.
I need to buy this superb phone but I cannot find anything other than used ones on eBay or some new ones for which I dont know if there ia warranty or if that is one of those new stock with corrected features (not sure what the bug was).
Can anyone please link me to a amazon or dell site which they will ship to Belgium? I am surely confused and want this device right now

Thanks for the reply Bongo.
I called up Dell customer service for laptops who transferred the call to a representative for phones.
He frankly told me not to buy this because of various problems it is facing and currently a shortage of recognised Dell service providers who will oblige to take care of problems if any in the future.
Sad very sad
You have the choice of the best WP7 handsets in Europe, the DVP would not be my first choice at this point, though I understand the attraction. With CES just weeks away there could be even better handsets in the pipeline, so even more reason to pass on the Dell.

I honestly wouldn't bother either. It seems Dell contracted out the firmware/OS modifications to some east Asian company. Dell have said the compass will never be fixed and they will never add wifi tethering.
I can't see any other company attempting a WP7 portrait slider.
