when i look at seeing>about>status>my phone number it says unknown.
i would like to find a way to enter my own phone number since it is needed for google voice.
ive tried looking at my sim toolkit but no option will allow me to enter my phone number.
please help.

Take your sim card out, insert it into a dumb phone that has the option of setting your own phone number and then back into your SII. Android can't recognize phone number, so this is probably the only way to do it.

Stick the SIM in any iPhone, go to Settings > Phone. Then edit "My Number".
This can also be done in any BlackBerry (as I did using a friend's Curve 8520), although I don't remember which menus I went into.
you can also do it on an iphone (as i have previously)

I just found a way to get the Galaxy S2 to display "My Phone Number" without having to go through putting it in another phone etc..
All I did was go to Settings -> Call -> Additional Settings -> Caller ID.
Then I just changed the selection from "Network Default" to "Show Number" then hey presto I went to Settings -> About Phone -> Status, then looked at "My Phone number" and it was displayed correctly in there with the country code and everything.
Hope this helps you guys out..
Cheers

unfortunately it didnt work for me, maybe the feature is disabled by my carrier.
Yep, didn't work for me either... I'm on Telstra Australia with an i9100 I bought elsewhere though it supports the 850mHz band...
Helluva lot cheaper than buying it from Telstra....
Can we do this using one of the SGS2 secret codes?

Hi there ,
When i check my contact list i have a message saying sim card unavailable at the top under search. Had the phone 2 weeks problem free and this is the only issue i have. Ps also happens on my girls x10
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I had this but fixed it by taking the SIM out and editing advanced-special number- in my old phone and adding my number.
My phone number now shows instead of the "sim card unavailable".
Yup agree with above poster... shove it in a dumb phone, edit your number then pop it back in your smart phone and it will be able to 'see' the number
Great tip. That's been bugging me for a while. Thanks!
I have a htc touch dual will that do it ? Thanks for replies

hi
i need to save my number to a special/my own number??
or i need my to save my number and edit the name to something special??
How would you edit your number using a dumbphone?
It does work, but there should be an application to fix this , it is funny that a "smart phone" can not handle "stupid tasks"
Wanted to know how to do this also. Cheers
I used a blackberry on the service provider store to edit it and be able to use taptalk...

LOL...good one...
yes!!!
thats exactly how its done... I had the same problem , removed the sim, put it in an old SE phone, edited the number and now it shows up in my X10i...
FYI: Mobile number is never pre-stored in SIM card given by your mobile operator. The SIM card only contains IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) which is the ID of the SIM card it self. And the phone does not know what is its phone number as well. And that is why that you can actually ask the mobile operator to change your phone number, without requiring you to change SIM card.
So you need to manually write your own number with other phone.
PS: Mobile phone eavesdropping/tapping hardwares also cannot see your phone number, only IMSI as the phone send their IMSI to mobile network. So movie that shows that they can sniff and see your phone number in their hardware, its fake.
i sold all my old phones
I think this is kernel related, I did a search and found no answer...does anyone know where to look or how to change this so that my number shows? The reason I'm looking for this fix is that some apps required it..thanks for your help
...thanks to wolfpack612
Under WM, go to sim manager from your contacts, most roms have it cook in but if yours doesn't, just do a little search and you will find a cab.
...once under sim manager go to tools and from there you will be able to input your number..
...save changes
...reload android, go to settings and verified that your number appears under my number. If is there it lucky, but if it does not show
...delete data under your android folder and start fresh this will solve that issue.
Once aging thanks to wolfpack612

I have the same problem. I got a temporary number for a day waiting for my number to get ported over, and now under settings it shows that number. So for apps like tikl I have to use that stupid number. It might something the carrier can change I'm just too lazy to deal with them about it.

I'm using a sense build n I been looking at system files to see if I find something but still no luck..I don't think is a service provider issue, it seems to be build or kernel

i was able to change my number to the correct one. google htc sim manager. it's an app for windows mobile, and it allows you to change the phone number saved on the sim card. now my right phone number shows in phone identity.

In the Messaging app when SMS Message are threaded it displays a picture from the person the message was sent by, and another picture that is next to the SMS that are sent by Me. In the CM6.1 ROM the default Picture is a Grey Box...
Is there anyway of changing this?
I wish, this bothered me SO much at first..
Handcent allows it in the settings fairly easily well worth the small price to support good product that enhances my customization.
In CM, go to Settings -> Call Settings -> Additional Settings -> My Phone Number and put in your phone number.
Then make sure you have a contact with the picture you want to see in your contacts list associated with the same number.
And presto, picture.

Wish it would pull the picture from facebook like the original Slide ROM does, but at least the annoying gray square is gone..

Hi guys. I am also having this problem, admittidly with an HTC Saphire. I can't find any way to input "my number" anywhere. In settings "about phone" it says, number unknown and is greyed out. Anyone know how on a Saphire. Then maybe this would also fix my SMS picture problem.
Cheers, just in case.

The only downside I've found is that the setting doesn't stick through a reboot (so you have to put your phone number back in after each one). Upon checking, there's a bug tracker issue for that problem on the CM bug tracker so *shrug* hopefully it gets fixed some time soon.
Solution.
There is another longer thread somewhere on this, and the solution works, I have just done it.
Basically the sim card needs to be programmed with "my number". On my Magic, when you go to about phone, it would say number "unknown". Magic doesn't allow you to change this. Put your sim into another phone; I ended up using my girlfriends Backberry; and navigate to additional settings, or whatever, until you find Sim Card actions. Then in there edit sim card to show your phone number in international format (+44(leave out 0)**********).
Once done, pop card back into your phone, and as long as you have a contact with your number and picture logged away, then voila.
Works on any phone that allows you to edit sim card.
Hope this helps.

Madam*, I owe you a cookie.

Also doesn't need resetting after a reboot, however I had to reboot to make the pics stay after re-entering the messsaging app.
I just activated a Droid Incredible. When I get a voicemail,I get a notification on the front of the phone, telling me to dial "*86#xxxx#"
The xxxx is my voicemail passcode for when I retrieve my messages.I have it programmed into the provider's voicemail system. When I long press "1" it retrieves my mail.
I need a notification on the phone when I have a voicemail, but to have my passcode in full view is not cool. How can I change that?
Have you tried Google voice? Its better integrated with our smart phones than the carrier's option, though I understand everyone has their preferences.
That's one solution!

Does that change the display only? Because what I have in there is what I want to dial when I hold down the "1" key.
I also don't want to have to listen for prompts and key in my code everytime I check for voicemails.
I'm pretty sure there's an option once you're in your voicemail to change whether or not you have to put your code in each time you check it from your phone. just listen to all the prompts and go through the options.

That is what I do now,it works fine.
But when someone leaves a voicemail,I get a notice on the display telling me of the time of call and to "dial *86p????#"
If I have my phone put down somewhere anyone can happen by and see my passcode.I am trying prevent my passcode from being displayed.Maybe I am missing something?
I am running froyo and the stock ROM.

Ah i see i misunderstood what you were trying to accomplish. I dont know of any way to make the notification not show your password. It is going to show what ever is programed in the voicemail settings.

There is no way around this. i use the same thing so i dont have to type my password in. you would have to use Google voice to get around it.
How do you open "Phone Info" on the S4? Most android phone it is *#*#4636#*#* but in the latest galaxy phones that is disabled.
I'm pretty sure I've opened it before with something I found on the interweb, but now I can't figure it out.
Thanks.
So the actual dialer code doesn't work, but the menu can be accessed using the app TelInfo from the play store.
