Restart the phone and the computer. Try a different USB port. Just keep unplugging and plugging back in until it works. Worked for me.
Ok so far i have updated my baseband to xxx15 and i have rooted my phone installed root explorer busybox etc, i have tried installing XRecovery 1000s of times and have done everything possible i just really want 2.2 froyo on my X8 and i've tried so many times to use XRECOVERY and have gone through every tutorial but it don't seem to work.
Are there any suggestions?
Any other ways to install froyo 2.2 custom roms onto my phone?
Post here the complete procedure you made, step by step.
Maybe anything is going wrong.
Don't give up
/youtube.com/watch?v=lPV6Ue5a0Ww
thats the way I make but with a different ROM it's easy Don't forget to make a backup of your data!
Firstly I updated my baseband to xxx15 and then I rooted using superoneclick and installed busybox from market then I got root explorer and placed the 3 recovery files in system bin and set permissions and mounted in RW and rebooted and clicked back button but nothing comes and have tried Apk xrecovery which still don't work....
Aren't there any other ways apart from using recovery to install custom time because in going crazy here.. I did that YouTube tutorial but it still didn't work.
don't hold the back key, you must tap it fast, when you hold it it will not work, just tap it!
I have beem tapping it but nothing happens
I was having the same exact problem, but then i used the Flash tool, and after click "ask root perms" i clicked "optimize" and after that my phone rebbot onto Xrecovery.
Could you give me a step by step guide through of what you did please?
I´ll try.
If you already done everything else the only thing left is to download the flash tool from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986697
Then after download, open the flash tool, after open, you will see in the top some buttons, click on the one "ask root perms" first, and after click on the one that says "optimize".
When i did that the phone rebooted to Xrecovery.
If you have any doubts ask and i will try to help.

It's like this, after you install busybox from market, the file you had in SD is changed, (really don't know why), so, the solution is the busybox file you have to move to System/bin, apart from chargemon and xrecovery, YOU must check it's size, busybox must have 700~ kbs, if not, download, or unzip current xrecovery given from many places (must be v0.1) and replace the correct busybox file with the wrong one inside sdcard.
So, YOU MUST BE CERTAIN the busybox file you are moving to system/bin has around 700kb~
I think you're done, reboot and good luck
ok ive tried this process but it still isnt working..........
i am having the exact same problem
I thought i was the only one!, seriously i need helpp aint there any other way to install custom roms,??
i heard somewhere you can use x10flashtool but i wont be the first one to try as i have had soo many problems in the last week its unreal. i cant even get the gingerbread theme on. can anybody post a full tutorial. i have freshly reformated my phone so its on adroid 2.1 and its blank. where do i go from here?
For all that could´t install, after you install busybox on the phone, did you go to the phone, open busybox and install?
yh i installed Busybox after download from market......... and yh i did go to busybox on phone and install but still no luck

Have you ever tried installed Busybox by installing Titanium Backup. tap the lower middle button to let it replaced by a workable one from the Market automatically, right after placing the three files you mentioned above?
This little trick may help...
... I'm NOW running Floyo2.2 beta v0.15 happily with this method for a couple of days, with multiple reboot from the beginning, but the rebooting problem is gone.
My favourite TrackID doesn't work in this beta, but I simply replaced it with Shazam ;-)

I´m glad i could help.
I am having some serious issues with my evo. I have tried 10 different methods, googled 100 different help guides and still no fix.
I had originally rooted my phone using simple root and put the "fixed" froyo rom on there. Everything worked fine, but I was outdated and having some really slow issues so I wanted to try a new rom...Fresh.
Well I tried a few methods, but I somehow reverted my evo back to a nonroot of the original OS. Whenever i go into hboot, my recovery does not work. I push the PC36img and load it, then restart then I attempt to go to my recovery where it gives me the error picture with the yellow/red triangle. I then select recovery (after pressing UP volume and powerbutton) and try to load update from sd card. Everytime I do that I get a Failed error.
I've tried to reroot using several methods off this website, I've done everything I can to get it working but can't. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Try reflashing your recovery image.
BTW I have hboot 79.0 with S-ON, so it looks like I def became unrooted.

Not sure how it would have just unrooted itself. I would run an RUU from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060
Then, I would re-root and start clean again.

I would have waited about ten minutes then restarted the phone. If the phone is stuck at the HTC logo, then I would go ahead and re-run the RUU.
Let me know how it turns out.

ok, finally got it working. Had to restart the phone manually and try it on a different computer. It updated it to the newer version of android and hboot, thank goodness! That was the easiest and most productive thing I've been able to do so far, thanks!
Well now I try to boot into recovery and get the same error:
can't open /cache/recovery/command
Then I get :
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
When i try to load update from sdcard

Ok, so, I think you said you got the RUU working which would have completely restored the phone to unrooted and stock from factory.
Now, you need to re-root your phone using one of the methods on xda. I used the manual method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045. However, many people have had success with the one-click methods.
After you re-root (which will likely included installing a recovery), select a rom you want to try, boot to recovery, wipe and flash it. A great starter ROM is MikFroyo 4.6 or 4.5.
Try downloading the PC36IMG.zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
put that on the root of your SD card, then boot into HBOOT and it should find that PC36IMG.zip after a few seconds and ask if you want to flash it. Choose yes and let it finish. Should then be able to reboot into recovery.
ok thanks, i'll try it when I get back home

Ok, I tried this method...the filesize of pc36img.zip is only 3.5mb, but it didn't seem to work. It scanned the file then just went back to the hboot screen with my options never asking to flash.
I'm going to try to reroot using the other method now...
So I clicked the link and he forwarded to the autoroot.bat page so I used his method. It worked well (the 2nd time around) all the way until it started to push amon_ra_1.8-mod.... then after that it says rebooting into the bootloader, and it reboots into it and just says waiting for phone...
It does appear that my phone is rooted now, but my recovery is still not working. If I use ROM manager will it work since my phone is rooted or do I need to have a rooted ROM to run it off of?

Does your phone show s-off while in the bootloader? If so you should be able to run the FlashZip script and use that to flash the pc36img-sprintlovers zip. That one contains everything needed to bring your phone up to date and will leave you with a rooted rom and recovery.

FINALLY! Thanks a million! My recovery is now working and it installed the built in sprinter lovers rom, I guess the anti-virus was stopping it so I disabled it and ran the flash script. I was able to install Fresh on there, just to try it out. I do have a few questions though:
1. I noticed after going through many pages that to update to a newer ROM version you don't always have to wipe clean, you can just install (or flash) the new update? I noticed in Fresh there is a built in app that does that. Is this true for most ROMS or only certain ones?
2. I assume I am using the RA recovery. I noticed the backup/restore feature on there. What exactly does that backup and when should I use it?
3. I've noticed I've been very low with memory on my phone (not SD card), I have about 258MB free. How can I clear space and when I mount my phone what files are important to keep and can I get rid of, is it okay to get rid of my rom.zip's and radio.zip's?
Thanks again to everyone, autoroot was def the most painless root ever.

1) You'll want to always wipe your cache/dalvik (I do everytime I'm in the recovery) but the Data depends on the ROM. Usually if you are going from one sense rom to another you are ok and the same for AOSP to AOSP. Going from Sense to AOSP you'll need to wipe data though.
2) Autoroot comes with a modified version of AmonRA, they are mostly just speed tweaks. To make a complete backup of your ROM select Boot (kernel), System (ROM), Data (Apps & Settings) and .android (apps on SD card)
3) You can delete the zips from your sd card if you don't need them but that's about normal for free memory.

Yes there's a fix in there towards the bottom of the first post.
If you want to flash another recovery, turn your device on into recovery, connect it to your computer and use adb to push the file to your internal storage.
It should be something like "adb push filename.zip /data/media" then you can use the borked recovery you're on to flash the one you pushed.

His problem is with it getting stuck in recovery, which is a known issue with Koush's 5.5.0.4, simple fix with adb. No need to reflash the whole rom.

Thanks for the help everyone--Ended up using NVflash to load a rom called prime 1.6. 3:30 a.m. and I am as good as new. No ICS but at least it is stable
Good to see you got it back working...
I'm no longer providing support for this thread due to time constrains with school, thank you for your support and it been nice sharing this method with you all. I may be gone but this method has still been reported as working, but it is possible that the next updates pushed to your phone might break the rooting and this method might not work anymore. But there is no harm in trying, at most you get an error in recovery saying file is invalid.
This method works on the released ICS rom from Germany and I would expect it to work for the rest of the ICS roms due for release..
This method does not increase the binary counter or causes a yellow exclamation mark
Update :
Due to rising numbers of phone being bricked based on rumors and stuff, I strongly suggest NOT trying to use any nandroid backup or restore on this CWM and it is best we keep CWM out of our devices to do major I/O stuff. So far I have never seen anyone bricked their devices on this small rooting/unrooting process but JUST DO NOT MAKE BACKUPS OR RESTORES!
Rooting
Download the Files first and put in your EXTERNAL SD
Reboot to stock recovery. - Shutdown your device completely, press and hold Vol Up + Power button + Home, releasing the power buttons once you see the Samsung GALAXY Note N7000 screen but continue to hold the Vol Up and Power buttons still until you enter recovery
Choose apply update from external storage. - Touch the screen as if you are using the phone to choose the options.
Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
( From this point on, the volume rockers and power buttons do not work! It is now a Touch interface like how you use the phone normally )
Choose install zip from external SD
Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
Reboot
You are done and now your device is Rooted
Unroot
Download this File first and put in your EXTERNAL SD
Reboot to recovery.- Shutdown your device completely, press and hold Vol Up + Power button + Home, releasing the power buttons once you see the Samsung GALAXY Note N7000 screen but continue to hold the Vol Up and Power buttons still until you enter recovery

( From this point on, the volume rockers and power buttons do not work! It is now a Touch interface like how you use the phone normally )
Choose install zip from External SD
Choose and Install SU-Uninstaller-Signed.zip
Reboot
You are done and now your device is Unrooted
Partial Root
Alright i managed to obtain partial root myself and a fix for the Partial root is quite simple. You can install SuperSU by Chainfire and update the root. would fix the Partial root. Once you install this.. DO NOT USE the Superuser app and DO NOT uninstall the SuperUser app. Use SuperSU from now.
SuperSU - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&hl=en
MOD Edit: cwm.zip removed from the attachments, read Entropy512's post.
Thanks, but does this install CWM as well? id like to know so that I can go straight to flashing roms from it

Works perfectly. Just rooted stock ICS.
Got a brand new Note in the box here.....
Trying to get things straight. Seems like I have two options now for rooted official ICS.
1. This method. Update official ICS Via PC odin (no binary counter, ect) and then follow above instructions.
2. Root stock gb via old method (not sure what that is yet) and then use the mobile odin proceedures w/ new ICS CF kernel?
Is the end result gonna be the same?
Bonus question for noob: what is binary counter and red triangle/exclamation point?

Yeah it looks like it, but since it actually works i can't see why that would be a bad thing. But i would give the original author credits in the first post; that is if you copied it.

Yes you will end up with the same result if you take either one of the 2 ways to root
Binary counter is a Samsung measurement of how many times you flashed custom firmwares using PC Odin, and the yellow (not red ) triangle is just a logo to further show that you indeed flashed custom firmware
However, the binary counter will not increase (and therefore no yellow triangle will appear) if you:
1. Flash stock firmware with PC Odin
2. Flash using Mobile Odin app by ChainfireXDA
3. Flash using CWM recovery
I got binary counted to 1 with yellow triangle after flashing ics stock from alba.can i use this method to erase counter and triangle?

I didn't have GB root because my previous version had root, but I $%*^ screwed
up and let KIES update it to 2.3.6 and I've got too much work to screw around with back flashing wiping etc.
I went ahead and let kies update to ics, now, my question, will this method work, or will I still have to go though all the other to get it to work.
I see it works on stock ICS, but is that after kies, or after you update via pc odin?

This method works as long as you are on Stock ICS.. Can't really go wrong really.
so i did and have root and root works..
now my question is....
given that we get temp CWM..can i use the temp CWM to flash radios?
AND so if i want to flash LP6 radio via CWM will the steps be.
load Stock recovery
flash CWM.zip in stock recovery
load CWM
flash lp6 radio
will that work?

After no one answered i took the plunge...
Yes
so can confirm that the above procedure will work
PS: Am amazed how this is not in the sticky
Can anyone tell me any issues with using the CWM offered in this thread??? as in any issues with flashing other roms?? etc??
I fail to see?
The only issue is that CWM is not permanent but u can easily re-enable it by flashing it again...
again..dont understand why ppl are not paying attention to this thread as is great!

This method works as long as you are on Stock ICS.. Can't really go wrong really.

Try rooting again.. Are you sure your file manager app was given permission? Cause this thing is practically fool proof.

AND so if i want to flash LP6 radio via CWM will the steps be.
load Stock recovery
flash CWM.zip in stock recovery

hmmm.... didn't work for me. CWM looks for update.zip so i renamed it as such. installed and rebooted to CWMR, no touch menu. same old blue colored menu. install su-binary, stuck at unmounting /system = not rooted.
