I doesn't "have" to be the Desire. The Z and the HD are also portable. Its simply that the Desire is the most similar in terms of hardware.

Then indeed it's great news I always thought that the glitches, cam and rest bugs maybe will be fixed after released code of Desire but if DHD and DZ also can do this...what are we waiting for?

so is this true?

Dont you think youd hear more about it? This was posted on the 22nd, its the 27th. I think we would have a nice new rom by now.
On factual info, this is not real. On the dev site for htc (posted in first post) there is no plain desire gb kernal released yet. Only desire hd/z/f/b/q/r etc. we dont need those, we have them. Sorry, still have to wait (I know, arrrrr tell me about it)

Yes. The reason we cannot use the drivers for the Desire Z HD and S are because those devices are using the 2nd generation Snapdragon. The Desire and HD2 use the 1st generation Snapdragon.
Which brings me to this. Couldn't we try using some of the drivers from the Evo 4G? The Evo also uses the 1st generation Snapdragon.

Unless the drivers are unified and backwards compatible like ATI/AMD Catalyst drivers or NVIDIA ForceWare drivers.

Now that the GB Kernel source code for Desire is released, can it resolve the camcoder issue...?

All HTC Desire Devices Getting New Sense UI Soon
HTCSense.com is online and accepting sign-ups from people running both the Desire HD and the Desire Z phones --phones that are running the latest version of the HTC Sense UI. Unfortunately, other Android devices, even those running older versions of HTC's Sense UI can't get in. According to a post at ePrice.com.tw,
Additionally, if you are running on an HTC Desire currently, if the rumors hold true, HTC will be updating your Sense UI to the new version as early as December 2010.
I read this article from pocketnow.com

If this is true, we can have even the camera and ereader working on our hd2 Android with the latest sense UI with less memory usage. I am eager for the release.

If you read carefully then you see that it's rumored the normal Desire model also gets a Sense update.. Which means we can use the Android builds with Evo/Desire kernels and therefore also get the new Sense on those builds. While those builds do support camera.

Aosp Ics will Devs bring for DHD

Hi guys, while i love my Sense3 DHD, i was wondering when the ICS AOSP source drops will anybody here make a port of ICS for our DHD's?
(I know i proberly should sell my SGS and get a nexus-s hehehe)
If the source drops in full, then I would expect the Cyanogen team to make and release ICS, probably under the name (CyanogenMod 8). This would/ usually is ported to a large list of devices (Desire HD included).

Yes your most likely right. As they said the source would be released with the release of the first device running it. So when in the first ICS device gonna be release? I know everyone is excited about this. Hell I am. But please understand that when rushed you end up with a product that has bugs and huge issues. Not to mention that HTC is not the first or the last group that has to have time with it before it can be released. Once you toss in the carriers, well we know how that goes lol.
i am wondering whether dhd will get a official ICS from HTC.

I would expect so, given the specifications of the DHD. HTC have mentioned releasing ICS for older phones. I guess it's the mid-range phones that won't be getting ICS.
All the same, the official release will come out much later than the cooked ROMs - and I know which one I'd prefer
Correct me if I am wrong, but if HTC updates its latest models/or if their newest mobile has ICS then wont it be easy to port it to DHD?|
I know it wont be a vanilla version then, but still.

Desire Z Official ICS update?

Will the htc desire z get an ics update? The desire hd is gonna get it, so on guessing that the desire z will get one as well?
It was once on HTC update list, but disappeared...
and I don't think it will back on list... they got enough work on new devices...

If you want ICS there is a rom (i assume you are rooted) out there called Virtuous Quattro. Its a full AOSP build of ICS ported to the G2/Desire Z
Here is the developers website:

I definitely recommend it. Its kinda new, but vary stable. Especially when using the Nova Launcher.
Hope this helps

Sent them one re: DZ and Flyer.
Hopefully if we don't get an official one, someone will port the Runnymead ICS. I've tried Quattro but to be honest, I quite like sense...
The post on the front page of XDA states Desire Z is on the "expected but not officially announced"
There's also the Andromadus dev team, building what might be the start of CM9 for the Desire Z/G2.
I'm running their Alpha 11 and it's been stable and well-behaved so far.
Its capable of running it that's for sure. But I highly doubt it will be pushed to our devices. It would be nice as it would near complete the custom roms problems they are having. Since HTC doesn't want to give up things like the camera to help move it along.

Sure there is, the G2 has been end of lifed and has already received a major OS update. Not to mention the G2 isn't totally stock (if you tear the OS apart and look).
We will get our ICS, just in the form of CM9.
i don't think we wil get an official ics update from htc, and onestly, i don't want it, the last official update really suck compared to the unofficial roms in the dev section...
the question is...when we get official and fully working cm9 rom?

90% of us don't want the update for a modded rom lol! We just want it to rip out the drivers so that stuff like CM9 will actually work properly. It looks like one our cousin phones (Desire HD & S) will be getting the update so we should be okay eventually as far as proper drivers go.

Why Desire Z should get ICS

HTC didn't announce ICS update, despite its brothers getting it.
We assumed it was hardware limitations with the smaller RAM (512mb)
But now HTC have announced the new HTC One V with ICS and Sense 3.6/4.0.
And guess what? It only has 512mb aswell.
So RAM can't be the issue. Maybe CPU power?

The issue is that HTC has A LOT of phones. The Desire Z has already received a major Android update. It is not a flagship phone, nor a big seller.
Or in short....$$$$$$$$.

True, but the Desire Hd (released at the same time) is getting the update.
And that phine hasn't just had one, or two or three major updates....
It's had FOUR MAJOR OS UPDATES.
that beats Apple with their iPhone 3gs.
It's gone from 2.2 all the way to 4.0 with numerous huge sense upgrades.

I think Nospin is right; commitment to the development of Android varies among different manufacturers. Commitment to profit does not. There is limited upside to them providing an upgrade. Chances are, we'll still purchase the next HTC phone when we get the money and/or discounted price with contract from our carriers, despite them choosing not to upgrade our phones. In other words, why provide us with an additional free service, when they're going to get our money in the future anyway. In fact, providing the upgrade might *deter* us from buying their latest and greatest.

That's cause the Desire HD IS a flagship device.
But I hope so, we will get custom ICS from HTC ONE V. I think it will be brilliant
I don't think the desire z will get a OTA update either. I think they plan it this way so that we have to upgrade and won't be content on sticking it out with our old devices. Either way the desire z will get ICS from cm9 most likely. It's taken longer then I wanted but I know it's in the works.
Just use Andromadus. I know it's not official, but you can rock it now. Which counts for a lot.

what my opinion is that HTC released the sense 3 OTA to make people either root, or upgrade.. my guess is that HTC will never release any OTA anymore

If this was Samsung, then I would agree with the Desire Z getting ICS. However HTC has already given us an unlocked bootloader as well as the source code for the Desire Z. There's no need for HTC to get involved anymore. This is exactly why places like XDA are important to the rest of us who "knows" our devices are still kicking strong because then we can just do the work ourselves. And besides, even if Desire Z does get an ICS update: the majority of us will still prefer Custom ROMs anyways. This way, everybody wins. HTC maintains a healthy reputation with us and we get to save some money.
heh, by "we", I mean the talented devs that still support our devices. I'm personally useless.

I agree, I think there would be two benefits of having ICS come officially to Desire Z / G2. First would be that that ROM would be a lot easier to modify and tinker with by the dev's then what they are working with currently. The second benefit would be in the form of less people asking for eta's on cm9. I would rather use a custom version of a rom than a stock rom, but the same doesn't go for everybody. I bet a lot of the traffic on xda is people just wanting ICS on their device period.

HTC Official ICS Update List, No Desire Z

http://blog.htc.com/2012/03/ics/
I woke up in the morning with this news. I have to say that I was very disappointed. Even though I anticipated that HTC won't release an official ICS update for the Desire Z, this news still took a toll on me :-(
