Can I come back and hang out here? - EVO 4G General

I traded my Evo in on a E3D and the forums over there are a disaster.I have never seen such flaming and whining and crying about one teams decision to not release a not ready for public consumption hack.
I really loved the Evo forums, people get along so much better here.Damn.

GTFO
Kidding.
I pop in every once in a while ... doesn't necessarily seem bad, just sad and lame. I have never seen the recycling of the same images that many times. Yikes. And the misuse of 'U Mad?' pictures? Amateurs.
We welcome you back, with open arms. And legs. Gimme a good cat picture while you are settling back in.

Ha ha I know but you should have seen this forum a year me being a OG evo owner since it came out I can tell you it will changed when full root is available people will stop complaining about stupid stuff lile"do you camera button rattles" Lmao
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d

It just brings me back to the Directv hacking days,a public script would go down and you would have thousands of freetv'er newbies *****ing and moaning to the script writers about not having a fix up the second everything went down.God forbid they had to go 2 hours without their free porn.
Its just really kind of sad.I bought my phone knowing that it was locked down, having faith that the devs or htc would ultimately do something about it.
Its not like there are 3 dozen roms sitting there waiting to be flashed and the unlock is all that is needed.God forbid Myn,Virus,Mik or any one of the talented devs go post a teaser of some amazing breakthrough rom that is developed and the only thing holding them up is alpharevx sitting on the S-off,the server would melt.
Its just depressing.

Thank you XDA Evo Forums!

Just wanted to drop a quick and very sincere thank you to the devs and the community here for the EVO. I purchased an EPIC for my wife and thus have been hanging out at the XDA Epic forums every now and then. It seems like constant drama and the lack of cooperation there is hindering development. It makes me appreciate all of you and all the devs here in the EVO forums. So thank you all! You are awesome and we all have created an incredible forum!
ya Epic is a mess.
The device wasn't ready for prime time & development lacks which is a misery combo that shows through out Epic community.
Hopefully Sammy wont blow them off like they've done to the entire S galaxy lineup
Holy cow - you guys weren't kidding! Was thinking about getting an epic for my wife, so I've been lurking in the epic forums to see what the deal was. The drama there is off the charts! The users actually hate the few devs they have, and treat them like crap! They think there's some big conspiracy, and that they're entitled to unreleased work from the devs (unreleased because they’ve stated that it’s likely they’ll brick their phones) - it's mayhem! Madness I tell you!
I'll be surprised if there are any devs left working on the epic in 3 months. Looks like one of the three major ones just left.
Thank you to all of the devs here on the evo side of the house - and the users and noobs, too, because even on our worst day, during the worst of times, even counting the Time Without Root, we were never that ridiculous, and still (for the most part) conducted ourselves respectfully, like adults.
Happy Thanksgiving all.

Noobnl has said his goodbye
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847703
He was #1 in Epic development .Those that gave him heck will now regret it.

Ok, I'm just going to say it...

It took them this long to get FroYo out on ANY versions of Galaxy S hardware, we're all still on test builds... and they have Gingerbread running on the Nexus S... which is a freaking Galaxy S with a curved glass screen and NFC, a NEW piece of hardware.
So, Samsung is launch partner for Nexus S, first manufacturer with hands on Gingerbread, top in sales this year for Android, and spending millions to upgrade their phones...
Anyone wanna tell me why the f all Galaxy S phones aren't getting upgraded straight to gingerbread, before any of the other phones have a chance? Seems like they missed a boneheadedly obvious way to stage a coup on the hearts and minds of us loyal fans. Freaking Public Relations FAIL.
And I'll probably get flamed for this, and probably correctly, but just figured I'll be honest:
Last week I sold my epic and went back to Verizon, and got the Incredible. I miss the 4" screen, the ease of typing, the 4g, and the ability to easily wow people. And the Dinc's camera isn't as good.
But I don't regret it. I feel like my GS time was that of a first adopter. I paid for the wow. Since going back to DInc, I don't have as much wow time, but you know what? My GPS works as soon as I open GMaps. I don't need a hack to fix anything. My battery is only 1300mah, and doesnt last all day, but it never freaks out and drains while its asleep, or drains in two hours.
If this sounds like a rant, it's not. I loved the Epic, and the Vibrant I had first. The screen is amazing, and I waited since the HD2 for a phone bigger than 3.7 but smaller than 4.3. Samsung just needs to step up its validation, and it's support systems. The legion of Iphone fans aren't going to stick with any phone that doesn't just work.

Haha but for real, I understand what he's saying. Samsung has great hardware and $hit support/development. If it weren't for the devs on XDA, this phone would be a joke. We all just have to realize that we've already bought the phone, so they could care less about how we feel about it now.

as im more likely to agree....im kind of wondering if there is a phone that does make you feel warm and fuzzy, its probally cancer, herpes, or mono. you might just wanna stick with a good phone and leave the warm and fuzzies to the adult bookstores
Now I'll be honest. I think what you spewed is complete garbage. I'm running dk28 with no issues. I didn't have issues with eclair after the updated it to fix the "capped upload" issue. So I CHOSE to update it, I didn't have to...
I don't know how someone can possibly be so impatient that they'd run away crying like a 12 year old girl with a skinned knee for an update that hasn't even had a official release date given for it (that I've ever seen anyway). So, your impatience is not a sprint/samsung issue. It's a you issue. But I guess people like you would rather throw out a buggy update to shut whiners like you up. But then I'll guarantee that'd warrant another post from you crying about it. Maybe in the themes/apps section this time?
With that being said, since you obviously don't understand forum ediquette, I'm also left to assume you screwed something up when you flashed unsupported software to your phone by not follwing instructions, or whatever the case is. And AGAIN this is something that's you're fault, not sprint/samsung.
So yeah... The devs here made my phone a lot more of a pleasure to use. But it was a great device out of the box. The best I've owned so far by a long shot.
And if you want everything to work %100 why would you flash leaked software anyway?

Trevor, wrong section but since it's already here I must say it's definitely a justified rant. I've personally never really had an issue with those problems because I expect them to happen when I change it from stock, but I suppose I'm the minority. A friend and I had a conversation a week ago and believed because of the Nexus S that it would be in Samsungs best interest to just release the Vanilla version of each release to the carriers and let us pick and choose which bloatware we'd like, much like what we currently do with the ROMS. It would definitely feed the 3rd party developments as well as enhance what makes the Android platform wonderful.
With that said, try to post in the right section next time =)
So OP has a DInc now? He's going to be pissing and moaning when the Galaxy S series gets Gingerbread before his phone (thank you Nexus S). I hope the DInc forum goers are extremely tolerant..
+1 OP I don't get W$F samsungs deal is? can u see dell, asus or samsung for that matter releasing a new pc last Sep & or summer with vista on it and not having any win7 drivers in 10~11/2009 ? NO u can't! But thats what samsung is almost doing hear.
A friend got a LG Optimus s (free phone btw) the gps works better than epics on 2.1. O and the free optimus has 2.2

Have you ever thought that the Incredible had bugs when it first came out. Really the Epic is only 2 months old while the incredible came out at April. And also Iphone 4 came out with a serious flaw of "holding the phone wrong" and Iphone users still stick with it.

Nothing because we all know this isnt going to happen; many(including myself) have reached out to devs on several occasions and none of them seem to even take an interest. why do you think we all keep creating WP7 threads and NO devs even show their faces usually. This project is not an easy project just ask anyone. We would need a new bootloader to even get this going, who's going to write the evo a new bootloader to dual boot this and android? As i stated above, no matter how many bounty's we put up our devs just aren't interested in WP7.
I couldn't care less about WP7 being ported, but it would be cool to see just for the sake of development. However, I would probably donate for a WebOS port.

One Last Stand

This is my first thread as an OP, and ironically probably my last in the HeroC forums.. I converted over to the 3vo yesterday (and yes the rumors are true, it is amazing), so this is somewhat of a farewell thread but also one last testament to how awesome this little hero is..
i was on vacation last week with my wife's family in the mountains of Tennessee, we get a cabin there every year.. but everybody in the family has a smart phones, there are 2 brand new windows phones on AT&T and the rest are sprint, 2 evos a nexus s, and a random asortment of other phones.. but they all have looked at the hero with disdain, because most had the hero stock (which we all know sucked balls), and only 2 of them actually let me root it, but wouldnt let me optimize it at all.. but they all looked at my little hero like it was a piece of trash, because they had all moved on to "better" phones.. but on to the point, up in this mountain there was hardly a cell signal, the AT&T phones had zero signal, and the others were hit and miss.. but, my hero had signal the whole time.. not only did it have signal, but i wireless tethered to the laptops so we could get on the internet.. so while their condescending "awesome" phones sat lifeless on their night stands, my hero reigned supreme and gave life to their devices..
i know that didnt really have a lot to do with anything, but thought i would throw it out there, this phone despite being left to die by sprint and HTC, continues to conquer where other phones fail.. my hero shall sit in a glass case as it watches over its android kingdom..
and many thanks to all of the people that have helped me around here, and hopefully i have returned the favor at some point.. i will still be floating around here especially until the 3vo forums settle down a bit.. but raise a glass to our hero, heres to the greatest of the phones that was never meant to be great..
Cheers!

Well said!!!....Not only did my Hero serve me well for 16 months in the face of all those who scoffed. It's now been put into service teaching my 11 year old the ways of Android.
It's amazing how many people revere their Heros. It's just like your first love. I went through the Palm Pilot thing, and this really reminds me of that. People posted about upgrading, but talked about the respect and admiration they had for their first device.
Good luck to you in 3vo land, sounds like that community is really getting going.

Evo 3D Rant

Each day when I come here, I see a big slow down on the developing and updating of roms for the Evo4G. I know allot of the developers and members have gone on to the Evo 3D, but there is still a large number of us that aren't totally sold on the 3D yet. And like in my case it is NOT from being able to afford the 3D cause the price is not the issue. I just think allot of members are being left with a slim choice of roms anymore and the choice is getting slimmer. Thank you 3D!
"Hell I don't know anymore"
Don't really see roms disappeared anywhere, and yes many people got the 3vo but it still wasn't ROM per day before the 3vo, just give it time till devs find new and better things to put on ROMs

Not saying any roms have "disappeared" just seems the updating and developing in the 4G arena had slowed down quite a bit.

Really? If it is worth crying over why don't you start developing for your phone? These devs do this for fun and free. They don't owe you anything or have to develop on the basis that there is still a large user base. You are not entitled to anything.
Leaning the kitchen is definitely the way to go. That way you can take the best of what you like, and it in.
Much more satisfying too.

1. dude lets face it the evo 4g is now free at many places like target mobile..
2. The Evo 4g while a good phone is now end of life as it has been replaced... Its the way it goes.... We are lucky that the phone was not replaced after about 3 to 6 months. We got a year of updates.... from htc and sprint....
3. why dont you just go and get the evo 3d like i am in november for me...
4. why dont you just root and place some sort of evo 3d rom on your phone... granted it will be slow because of having to use the transflash card for everything.... since you need atleast a 2gb partition on it as ext3
You have definitely taken this wrong. And I have NEVER said the devs.owe us anything. Just making an observation. So don't try to inject things into my words that I am not stating.

IMO, I love HTC, but the hardware changes aren't worth me wasting my upgrade right now. I'll just wait for Fiscal Q1 2012 when everything will have major changes.
for example:
http://phandroid.com/2011/02/16/nvidia-quad-core-android-tablet-codenamed-kal-el-video/
that's a major hardware change from everything else. That would make me upgrade no problem....
I'm not saying from eVo to 3vO isn't an upgrade, just not enough for me
Man I can definitely see everyone does not read this correctly. It was just made as an observation and that was it. As for getting a 3D like I said the cost is nothing, as if and when I decide to get a 3D I will be purchasing more than one. My issue is Performance wise and I have tested it side by side at Sprint with my phone running virus's B1.3 rom. And even the tech I know there said outside of the 3D pics and videos, the processor just a hair bigger, and the increase in memory there really was not a significant difference in the performance. As he even stated that the rom I am using runs and makes transitions just as smooth as the 3D.
So I think I will just hold off til something with some more significant changes in software and hardware comes out before I use my upgrades or money on.
"Hell I don't know anymore"
I think the bottom line is a combination of factors.
The devs have done 2.1 and 2.2 pretty much to death.
AOSP, Sense 3.0, and GB are more intriguing to more and more people, but there is a lack of source code.
There are other higher-profile projects for devs, including rooting 2.3 and, yes, rooting and developing for the 3D.
But I agree with the other suggestions that you look into cooking your own ROMs, or maybe get into app development. That's what I'm doing, but it's also just for fun. Be creative. Just make a nandroid first.
Progress is a *****. Get over it.

I want to believe this is true but I think it's all speculation for quad cores coming to phones when dual cores are barely being introduced to some phones...Evo 3D being one of them. I agree though, I'm waiting until an ice cream sandwich phone (from someone other than Samsung) comes out..or a phone with higher specs to come out before I even consider getting a new phone.
I can see your comment is a suggestion as to your IQ gumbo. It really is surprising when people take observations you make as "crying" then post highly intellectural comments like "get over it" . ROFLMAO you make me laugh.

Once the kernel source is released we will see more development. Other than the original android phone the "G1" the EVO has seen major development over other phones and continues to do so. The EVO has had quit a run in my opinion. How many other phones get a update after a year of service? Not many. Once we see a non 3d version of the dual core I personally will be upgrading. For now I believe the shift ports are giving the EVO one more run.

I see it the same as SilverZero. It's not the Evo 3D or any other new sexy phone that's slowing ROM development. It's simply that Froyo's been done and still no source code for Gingerbread. So, things are slow. That said, I still see a lot of port successes (and failures) in Development and incremental tweaks on existing GB roms.
What would you like to see?
OP, just flash Synergy Rom and call it a day. It's the smoothed, zippiest Rom I have ever flashed. There's no denying it. With Synergy Rom on my EVO 4G, it's absolutely keeping me from getting the EVO 3D. It's that good.
I'm gonna hold off on upgrading for a little while at least three to six months to see what else is gonna become available.

+1 on Synergy, & I'm waiting for whenever the WiThin drops before I even think of making any decision to get rid of my EVO. I even still have my Epic sitting unactivated. Decisions decisions LOL

Folks don't take me wrong, the 3D is an advancement and the developers here are top notch and so are a majority of the members. I have made and will continue to make donations to this site and the devs both in support and financially. I just know there are allot of folks still going to keep their evo's for awhile more and would hate to see the loss of further rom developing for our devices. If I had the knowledge and time to get into developing I would for the community. But I don't. As running a business and being part of several organizations for handicapped children takes up most of my time besides my own family. I apologize if this thread has been tasken by some in the wrong context.
