I got a warranty replacement phone today and was wondering what were the odds they will give me crap if I send my previous rooted phone with S-ON back on, in for a warranty exchange. I had them send me another one since the phone would randomly turn off. If I'm not mistaken it did it before I rooted.
I had installed the unofficial T-Mo HTC 2.3 update and i wasn't able to get it back to 2.2.
If this is a problem, anyone know of a fix? I heard if you install the 2.3 u can't go back. I didn't see that until I did it. Or I wouldn't have done it. I don't think 2.3 caused the issues but who knows.
There is a downgrade available now, if you search in the dev section for the guide.

I have did that once b4 with my cliq and sent it back with leaked 2.1 and nothing happend.and as as long as the software is tmo branded u shoukd be ok cuz even know its leaked it is sstill tmo software

It's a crapshoot really, although since you're sending it to tmobile you have slightly better odds, but the fact is if they catch it with s-off then you'll get hit with the out of warranty fee. I hear a lot of people send them to tmobile with s-off with no problems, but there are some that got caught so question is: How lucky do you feel?
Sent from my G2 w/ meXdroidMod PreGhostChilli
Ya I never heard of anyone ever actually getting charged personally, but I'm sure it does happen.

Well I guess we shall see. S-On is on so that's a plus.
I sent my G2 in for a warranty replacement (Asurion) and it went S-ON with gingerleak. No issues.
Go for it

Ok so I called tmobile today and demanded an exchange because I can't stand the low speed on my phones mb/s download speed, so the rep told me my phone needed a software upgrade because it is running the 1.19.... Build Version, thats in settings> about phone scroll down until u find build version, so yes she todd me the latest was the 1.6 build version and that I could download it from tmo website but can't find the damn thing, can any one please help, what was she talking about, I also asked her why my phone was running last years version if it is a 2010 phone and she said some just come with it, what version is your phone running?
O ih forgot to mention she told me that could be the reason for low download speeds, but I'm confuse as hell!!!
She may have mistaken it for a G1?

My build version is 1.19 also.

Sounds like she has no idea what she is talking about.

No way, she knew it was the G2 I said G2, and when they look at your account they know the phone you have, and I got an exchange if they can't send me a G1 lol, imagine they actually do lmao, but yea I'm gonna figure out what was she talking about she sounded like she knew what she was talking about, she said that may be the problem with low download speeds on hspa+, gucould it be oh well ill figure out when my exchange comes in, damn tmo is the most confusing phone company I ever been with
My interest has been peaked. Does anyone have anything other than 1.19?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
If I get my new replacement phone with a 1.19 I'm calling tmo to let me know where was the software update on their website like the rep told me for the G2, ill let yu guys know when I get news on this, I think this may b the reason for the unstable data speeds could be we never know, and if it is true ill give yu guys the link to "update" the G2 that the tmo rep told me, like I said I'm still doubting this tho but we'll see
I've got 1.19 also. Does anyone have a G1 available to check?

Yea my cuzzin has a G1 ima ask her now thru text messaging
Sorry, this is the case of a misinformed or clueless rep

The 2 G1's I check don't have a build number. I'm pretty sure that's because they are rooted. Sorry i couldn't help out.
Guessing that 1.6 in this scenario is Donut. The build number for T-mobile in that instance was DRC83 I think.
the G1 build number for 1.6 is DMD64
I spoke, more like argued with a rep yesterday regarding my reboot issue...and since it's a known issues with the phone, they are no longer doing exchanges on the phone.
I said fine so what are you doing about it she told me wait!!!!!!! That they (htc) was addressing the issue, and that as soon it was resolved they would update, but there is no timeline on this update, the first update. According to Rachel the rep, it coukd weeks or months before we get any fixes. In the mean time we are stuck with deffective phones and rreally crappy cust serv.
I called them up to exercise my buyers remorse period...I got the phone on Oct 15, and I called yesterday the 29th...14 days from the day I received it....this nut job had the balls to tell me that BR period had ended on the 28th bcs they count the delivery day as the first.....I'm calling bs on this one

Yu guys got it twisted I'm not talking about the android version she wasn't talking about 1.6 donut, she was talking about build version
I was told the whole bs about htc is addressing the problem line for my hd2. Im still waiting for it to be addressed. Its only been 3 months...only.

Htc and tmo really making me mad now on this device!, the 1.6 donut was not the case here bcuz 1. donut wasn't last year it was two years ago 2. She told me to tell her the build version, nothing to do with android version, which is 2.2 in the case. But I think she knew what she was talking about so ima just wait for the replacement and ill let yu guys know on this
i got build 1.19 and my speeds are blazing...

Hey guys,
I've got a new HTC Desire Z, its been purchased "off line" i.e. sold without any contract.
Anyway ive noticed sometimes it doesnt come out of stand by, so i done a factory wipe and have no additional software running.
Its still doing the same, i updated via the update option on the phone, that didnt help either.
I've searched old threads, tried most things, i was wondering if theres any new information on the matter.
If all fails ill take it back to the store, but i have no faith in them fixing an intermittant problem...how annoying.
If it's new why not just exchange it?

Not enough information.
Coming out of standby, what exactly is the issue? There are at least 2 different wake issues. Screen has trouble waking, but will turn on if you try enough times or open the keyboard? Or won't wake at all, unless you pull the battery and restart?
Where did you buy it from? Are you still within their exchange period? If so, they probably aren't going to repair, but just send a replacement, which is probably a good thing. If you aren't within the seller's exchange period, they probably aren't going to help you.
Were you fully stock and unrooted before updating?
You stated you tried "most things". What does that mean? We have not idea what that means if you don't tell us. Tell us exactly what you tried to do.
What country are you in? Keep in mind, if the phone was not intended to be sold in your country, you have no HTC warranty (which is normally good for 1 year), per their terms.
I accidentally updated to the 2.3 update from sprint, which naturally killed root and battery life of my shift, and so now I'm wondering if there is a way to ruu back to 2.2 so I can root and save some juice, or am I just S.O.L. until devs figure something else out?
This has been answered in several different threads... As of right now there is no way to return to 2.2. Until another root method is found, your pretty much stuck with what you have.

Wow fml, I should have known better. Thanks for the heads up though. This is going to be a long edc.
I'm in the same boat. If there isn't a solution found within a week or so, I'm going to reactivate my Palm Pre and use it until the fix is found. I NEED to have wifi tethering and the Pre was really easy to get it working on. FML
i just got off phone from sprint for my bill but the girl said she soo busy resting phone back to stock alot of people dont like update so call them maybe a way they can roll it back
I'm certainly going to call and see if they can...

Yeah, make sure you let us know. I updated my wife's phone the other day .I want to take it back to 2.2 so I can root it if need be.
Phones speaker, yet again, went out.
Took phone to best buy, rooted with a custom rom on it. Think it was Fresh 4.2 or something I don't remember tbh.
Get phone back and it's all manufactured and has latest update.
From what I've read, no root for it yet.
What do?
Well, if we can get HTC to roll another small update out for us for the bad timezone and other small bugs... maybe they'll unlock the boot loader for us. :-D Send HTC saying your timezone is messed up. :-D

If it happens again, just buy a new speaker off eBay. They're really easy to swap out and cheap as hell. Just look on you tube for a walk-through.
not terribly worried about it. i plan on switching to the BB Bold 9930 when it comes out to Sprint in a couple months.
I got my Evo4g, because my previous job had hours upon hours of down time. So SNESoid and many other games filled that void and made my work day enjoyable. New job...can't even take my phone into the building, at all =( So all I need my phone now is just text and email. I could probably just get a dumb flip phone really. But I couldn't do that after having a smartphone for a few years now.

Is it your same phone? Check your bootloader to see if it is still s-off. You may get lucky and still be able to install a custom recovery.

ha, not sure why I didn't think of that.
i jsut assumed it was a new phone, sticker under battery now says 'remanufactured' and the screen doesnt have the scratch it had before and the camera lens is brand new looking.
welp, S-ON hboot 2.16.000
In my time lurking, I've seen multiple people say they sent back rooted phones to T-Mo and it went unnoticed. This made me wonder if they actually checked or not so I just wanted to know your opinions. I'm starting to think that you could probably get away with it if you just flashed a stock Gingerbread rom. I'm starting to find it quite amusing.
hope
I hope not, that way I will be screwed if something happens to the phone, i dont think I even have warranty to begin with.
If Tmobile are clever they most likely to do check it
I had a friend who bricked their G2 using some sort of visionary root and they were able to get a new one via warranty.
I have sent back several rooted phones to various different companies under warranty and got new replacement phones without any hassle every time... touch wood hope that continues...
unroot if you have the time.

I've send mine back a while ago because the screen became black and wouldn't come up again. Was running Virtuous Unity at that moment but still they repaired the problem and didn't touch my custom ROM.
Maybe if it is a software problem the repair company investigates further what happened to it?
