Hey all,
As I didn't like Samsung earbuds, I use my Sony MDR-J10 Ear Clip Headphones. But in calls, I can't hear the other person's voice because it's too low. And it's really annoying every time I receive a call and I'm listening to music, to unplug the headphones and after the call to replug them . Any idea how to solve this problem?
Just in case, I use Kyrillos v6 with G3MOD v1.3.2 Ultimate kernel
Thanks in advance!
Check EQ settings of headphones.. make it to default or try tweaking using tricks given in thread of EQ settings.. hope this would help.. i totally understand ur situation

Thanks. I was just testing this (btw, I can't access to audio menu. It must be blocked in jpq or something), and I tried to make a call. I realized that the the person's voice is not being 'bypassed' to the headphones (in other words, it's still being 'played' in G3's front speaker (just like it would do if there was no headphones connected. But before and after the call, all system/music sounds are played on the headphones :S).
Hope I didn't messed the text up a lot xD
Edit: When I try with Samsung earbuds, it ok. I can listen to the other person perfectly. Any idea to make it work with the Sony ones? I really hate earbuds xD

Hi all,
I've always felt that when playing music on my DHD that it's too quiet, when I've listened to music through my headphones I would say it's acceptable however when I've plugged my DHD into a HiFi or into my stereo in my car I could crank the volume to full control without it been deafening. I happen to find a fix yesterday by accident, I had my DHD plugged into my car stereo and the phone rang, I pulled the audio cable out and answered the phone, when I was done I put the cable back in and immediately I was like WTF just happened now, the music was much louder than what it was before I answered the phone, I would say it was about 30% louder.
I tested my theory by stopping the music and unplugging the cable, plugged the cable back in and started the music, while it was playing I opened the phone and simply dialled any random number and ended the call immediately, when it went back to the music it was most certainly much louder. I've tried it several times now and every time it makes it much louder than what it was before I make a call, I can now no longer turn the stereo full blast as it is simply too loud, just by turning it up to half way I would say it's the equivalent of what it was before when I had it turned up to the maximum.
I'm using Poweramp and I don't know if it's got anything to do with that, I will test it with the built in music player and see what it does. I originally downloaded Poweramp as I thought that the built in music player may be the problem.
i'll repet what you do and post some results... really want a louder volumen in headphones. I plugged my headphone in a Wildfire and it's incredible louder, no talking about an ipod! last week in a party i was ashamed when my friend put off his $50 cell phone and i plugged mine on stereo, so low volume....
wtf, that's true.. really don't understand what the phone turns on!! probably the same thing that volume boost turns on!!
Aha that actually works

Good news, it must be a software bug with the volume control.
works here too.. atleast on poweramp and soundcloud, didnt hear any difference on spotify

let's hope someone let this bug permanently turned on, with no call trick...
Haha! Tried it myself, and it works! Awesome!
I found using shazzam or sound hound while music was playing caused it to go louder. Seems to be when the mic is initialised. Noticed this two days ago

Interesting find.
I've noticed a couple of ROMS which suggest better audio volume by 20%.
For example this one. (Speaker Boost +20%)
So somehow, somewhere the bug or issue has been fixed or improved.

Not really, i'm using that rom right now, and what it makes is improve SPEAKER volume, not from headphone. I made my tests in Android Revolution rom and can confirm that headphone is as quiet as stock rom, and it is improved by the "call trick"!
Thanks for sharing! I was experimenting a bit, and it seems like the simplest way to boost the volume is to make a call while music is already playing. The call MUST connect though, or the volume will revert to normal levels. Tested with Winamp.
Maybe have one of the dev's ask to look into this.
If this is different from the already increased speaker volume output, it probably is a bug that can be fixed / feature that can be 'un-featured'
works fine
I had similar experience with my laptop. When listening a mp3 file, the sound coming out from my laptop seems like no effects, standard sound without bass and treble effect. Have to play a movie file first together and stop the.movie make the song hear with the effect.
I believe this issue coming from my sound driver. Using another OS in same laptop. The sound play normally with no issue.
For our Android, it's about the sound driver too?
well well, i just noticed that in the Android Revolution 4 (leaked gingerbread based), the sound is improved by default, no needing the call workaround, looks like HTC fixed the strange bug for the next version...
i just wanted to share!
edit: if someone could try to confirm it, i'll appreciate! =o)

I had the same problem, go to the Market and download "Volume Ace".
MarkieSA, you're an accident hero.
I noticed sometimes my DHD volume suddenly were loud . If I restart the phone, it will go low . I couldn't find out how to make it loud again until reading your post. I'm using PowerAmp too . I think it plays a role in this case.
Thank you for this great finding.
Really useful little trick for 2.2 users, especially for peeps using stock ROM's without the 20% boost via custom kernels. I had tried some of the volume boost type apps before rooting but all they do is invert the phase of one of the stereo channels. All this does is give you a very tinny mono output which is no use to say the least.
Hi there!
I have a problem with sound quality ,I mean that while I listening music I hear a sth like... "creaking". Of course I using PowerAMP application set "BASS EXTREME".
How I can solve this really annoying defect? I can`t listen music because of that.
I add that compression of my music is 320 kb/s 44 Hz in stereo so it is not its fault. I guess. And also I using brand headphones from Panasonic.
How can I get a sound effect like MEGABass from Sony Ericsson Walkman phones without creaking? PowerAMP bass is another , worse ?
I would be very grateful if You would reply as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.
PS I`m sorry from my English.
Actually X8 have very, very good sound card. Your problem is probobly related to headphones quality or mp3 loudness (check with mp3 gain for Windows)
Another thing is, your headphones are not so good for bass.
Turn down your bass a little bit.

Well don't have a sound issue with my x10. However when it comes to loudspeaker, guess it's too low. Its ok i think since i am always using an earphone.

I don't know why, but i feel, that stock SE music player plays music better, than other music players like powerAMP.
Try to use stock player with stock headphones
I think it is problem of stock ROM. I had X10 mini pro and it sounded great on my Koss Porta pro. With X8 everything sounds much worse, even in PowerAmp. But when I use custom rom (e.g. Gingerbread), sound is much better. So it is not kernel problem, it is something within X8 and W8 system sound layer.

I bought this headphones ( Panasonic RP-HJE120) because I have hear about that this earphones have really deep , point bass. So I don`t know.
When I turn bass off I still hear this "creaking". And I listen music with about 45% volume. I don`t know why ,but I think that my old w910i was better for music.
I try with mp3gain ,thanks.

X10 is probably more polished up.
Sony Ericsson made a lot of best phones ,also it is my favourite brand of mobiles and music always was really, really good especially for Walkman phones (=MegaBASS) ,but now i don`t know what i think...

I feel the same. The music is considerably better but... without any bass.

So I should change ROM? I`m kinda scared that i lose my gurantee.
Thanks everyone for answers !
If you turn down volume it's just lowers the output signal, but if you check the equalizer settings in PowerAmp, you'll find a bar next to the equalizer (marked as grey). With this bar, you can actually set the music INPUT signal's strenght (same as Winamp on PC: next to the EQ bars there is a preamp bar that if you pull stonger, no matter what loud is the sound output, the music will gets cracky), so, if you lower this, the crackling will be gone. Then you can turn up the volume as you want. Try it out!
Hi! thanks. You know,I did it before, and "creaking" gone and... bass too. . I don`t know what happen ,but speaker start creaking. I think that it burnt. I really take care of my X8 and why it be burn? I`m really disappointed of this phone and SE.
You said the speaker? No, it doesn't burned, it's just can't stand low frequencies. BTW the phone's speaker is the best I heard for now. It has got deeps, has got highs and mids. Ok, it's not a 1000W poweramp, but for a phone, it sounds really good... without any equalization.
BTW if you listening to music with a handsfree, then you have to lower the preamp, and after this, give it the bass EQ. Just don't forget, nowadays the music tracks are on maximized volume, so any additional volume to the waveform is fatal to the sound quality, and when you raise the "bass" you just give a volume boost to the low frequencies, that's why you must lower the preamp bar!
No,no,no I`m sorry I didn`t explain exacly. I went yesterday to kinda ran and while I`m at it I switch on the radio in half volume. In beginning everything was ok but next suddenly speaker made a weird noises and then it... turn off. Now it doesn`t work, I don`t hear anything except this noises. I don`t know why... its really strange. Did it burn right? I have to go give it to guarantee
Anyway if as far as sound quality in headphones is concerned, I got the lowest preamp bar ,how I can and actually creaking decreased but I still hear sth in back of waveform. I expect that is a compression of the mp3 . Mp3 is a lossy compression but what happen if I convert it to *.ogg ? It will be different - better?
Have you got DSP effect on?
Yes, I have. Now I don`t hear even any ringtone... . I forgot give you a "thanks"
No need to thank, because I couldn't help you. Maybe you're right, and the speaker died in your phone, but the last chance is that you disable every DSP effects. If it doesn't work, then try to install another ROM. Then if the sound remains silent, you have got bad luck: install original ROM with SEUS, and throw the phone in the place where you bought it. I'm sure you've got warrantee, so they will change the speaker for free.
BTW I suggest you to get LOSLESS (FLAC) music files, and conver them to m4a. M4a's compression is far better then MP3, and not to mention it is a free format, unlike MP3!
And I think you'll always will hear a ssshhh noise in the background, because of the mobile phone's electricity. It's like if you use an integrated sound card on PC: every little voltage that flows through the parts of the phone will make some noise. It's a normal thing.
Hi,
At first you told that you didn`t help me, but you help me! and wasting your time to answering to me. I`m appreciate it
I gave my x8 to SE service, and they took it and they announced that the speaker is broken. I must to waiting for week...or two. If they will return it I will try with *.m4a and *.ogg (vorbis) format. When I playing without DSP effects sound is devoid of bass, and the stock player have still more pure sound. Who knows ? maybe I`m demanding too, but it strange ,coz my old walkman phones are satisfied me ,so ... I don`t know what to think about it. Its a pity that SE won`t produce next Walkman phones, I really valued it. W8 is pseudo-walkman, oh please! who making a music phone without EQ ?
I`m sorry for off-topic ,but I read that SE finalizing their update for our handsets. But this topic currently was deleted at Facebook. X8 will get upgrade to next android version ?
Directly from SE website :
No, low or bad sound from the speaker while playing music
Sound problems may be caused by high volume.
Press the Volume key on the side of the phone up or down to adjust the volume.
Make sure that you don't block the speaker. For more information where the speaker is located, see your phone's User guide.
Make a test call to make sure that the speaker can handle a normal call.
Tip: For better sound quality when you play music, try a compatible Sony Ericsson stereo headset or external speakers.

I was having this issue, when I play music on my phone (no headset attached) it's sometimes noisy but sometimes fine.. first I thought it could be faulty speaker but the phone is brand new.. so I think this trick may help anyone suffering with this issue :
Make sure that you don't block the speaker. For more information where the speaker is located, see your phone's User guide.
anyone tested it. ? i'm using leather case to protect my phone but it's also blocking speaker and I can't hear it ringing on incoming calls. so I will try to cut a hole in the case ..
mine already have. thats why I buy it
but it covered SE's logo at the back.
woww awesome
So remove the case and try again! What's the problem????
If its happening again - try to adjust MP3 volume with MP3gain program for Windows.
Problem solved.

Normally (phone speaker & mic) I can hear people pretty well and they can hear me pretty well.
When I use earphones (that don't have a mic) the person at the other end can't hear me at all!
For a while I thought that it might have to do with how I was holding the phone while speaking - since I was using the phone's microphone to talk and my own earphones to listen I thought that that might be the reason that people couldn't hear me.
I did some test calls yesterday and that doesn't seem to be the cause.
I did notice that at the beginning of the call, I can hear sounds from my environment (cars honking, people talking etc) coming in over my headphones so I now suspect that the noise cancellation software isn't working properly when using earphones.
Has anyone experienced this issue?
Any fixes?
I tried searching both xda and googel but couldn't find anything that sounded relevant.
I've also tested this on multiple roms and with clean install of pure android, no differences.
Thanks!
Edit: I didn't read well .. Try to stick to head phones who has a microphone built in I cant think about another solution ..

I've tried just about all possible options - the problem doesn't seem to occur when using a bt headset or wired headset with mic - in those situation the noise cancellation software seems to disable itself, which isn't ideal but is much better than it feeding the noise back into my earphones.
i have been using a stereo bt set for a while because it gives me the best overall experience but I would really like to go back to my wired earphones (shure e2c's) as the difference in audio quality is huge, but having to unplug the earphones everytime I recieve a call is rly annoying.
i was hoping that there would be a fix that I had somehow missed....
thanks anyways
Just I observed that while the earphones are connected and playing and music/video, sound is coming from speaker too, and it is loud. Person next to me can hear it clearly. "Not with calls."
Any one facing this issue ?
And please provide solution.
Running stock ,latest update with no root and camera API is enabled.
Try changing ur earphone........and make sure u r putting the earphone jack inside properly...
I tried different earphones like MI, Oppo, Onemore, boat, but same result. But while calling it doesn't show that kind of behaviour only Music and video in-storage and online show the problem.
