I've noticed that screen of my Xperia Play is darker in 2 places. This is only noticable when screen is whole in one color, especially white or light gray (irregular illumination). I wonder if there is something wrong with the LCD of my phone, or those models just are not perfect. You can check your screen using some free Android app from Market, ie. LCDTest.
Did anybody noticed similar problem to his/her phone?
regards,
Boomz.
The colors on my screen are perfectly even throughout, as should be yours. Sounds like you got a defective one.

I haven't come across anyone else talking about this... lately, I've been noticing that the screen on my Epic seems to have some sort of issue displaying grays/tans/off-whites, and I can see darkish streaks on any image that has those sort of colors.
A perfect example of this is the Tweetdeck app's gray background. I have already traded in for a new Epic from Best Buy because the screen had really obvious darkening that shouldn't be there on the left side of the screen when I used that app, and I thought it was just a bum phone.
But with this new one, I've recently noticed the same sort of streaking (no big spots like before though, just thin lines).
What's really strange is that it almost looks like it is something UNDER the screen, not an issue with the SAMOLED screen, but it only happens on those colors, so maybe it is.
I'm still going through the process of deciding if this is enough to bring it back again (it obviously doesn't hurt functionality), but has anyone else experienced this?
If you're displaying a non-constant grayish background, positioning of the pixels in the PenTile matrix can produce unexpected patterns and even colors (the N1 could hbe coaxed into displaying a rainbow with just using white and black pixels strategically arranged.) On a steady background though, it shouldn't be a problem.

So this is just the nature of the device's screen matrix? Would the PenTile matrix's "unexpected pattern" be unique to each device? Cause it always looks the same when it comes through, as it was with the massive darkening on my old Epic.
I have to say I can sort of see it even on solid gray screens (via the Dead Pixel Detect app), but it definitely is one of those "I'm really looking for it" sort of situations. I'm not looking at solid gray screens with NOTHING on it all that often.
I thought I was the only one. My second phone had it bad so I traded it in for a new one. This one seems to have it as well but not as bad. I notice it most on greys like when I pull the notification trey down. It is most apparent on the lowest brightness setting and solid colors.

I too am having this issue, and like you all, it only shows up on grayish backgrounds or the like. Is there any remedy for it? It's only a minor annoyance...
Perhaps one of you who is experiencing this can take a macro close-up and post it? You should have no irregularities on plain gray backgrounds.

The only camera I have at the moment is the Epic, but I'll see what I can do tomorrow.
It looks like I may be returning this one regardless... the screen on the left side is starting to lift out of the plastic bezel.
I'm also having this issue with my screen. It's pretty annoying. Does anyone know if there a fix for this or is it a pure hardware issue?

Please help! I just bought the Bell galaxy s 2 today and realised that in low brightness settings screen has a pink tint.
Does anyone have this issue? Its more visible in grey colors. When i compare with my galaxy s, galaxy s' whites are true white and galaxy s 2's white are pinkish tint on it. When the brihhtness is at %100 its not that visible but once u set it %0 it becomes pinkish.
Is it what it suppose to be or its defective?
Note: yes i played with background effect but it didnt help. I am running KG2.
Edit: I compared with galaxy s again and if I make the brightness %100 on galaxy s 2 both screens almost identical (although SGS2 still has little warm whites) but at %0 brightness when I pull down the notification screen sgs2 has literally pink hue
Why not anyone comment on this? 100 something views and no comments?
U guys all have sgs2. pls at least share your phone's display colors so I can know if something is wrong with mine.
Yep got it to and also pink on camera also mine going back to Amazon tomorrow had two in a week with same problem Ive got one ordered from another retailer ... but I think its a inherent fault

Are you saying your whole screen looks rather pinkish ? I've seen couple of devices that were pretty much reddish when showing white, but i think that's not normal. You should replace it.

Yes whole screen has a reddish tint. Especially grey colors. Instead of grey it displays reddish. If i compare Gmail app with Sgs side by side, my screen has ridiculously pink color.
I wonder if its a software issue or hardware? Cuz I remember in sgs hardcore's kernel he made an.option to change the colors.
This is my second sgs2. First one had a dead pixel. So I didnt wanna go right away and change it. I wanted to ask yours.
More input will appreciated.
I uploaded a pic SGS and SGS2 side by side displaying Grey Graident Colors. what do you think?
If your phone looks like the one on the right, get it replaced. No rom/firmware will make it look good.

I'd take the lack or response to mean that it's not a problem experienced by many people. If your read the threads talking about the display, you'll see there's wide variations in color temperature. Cool/blue seems to be normal while there are reports of phones leaning toward warm/yellow. Pink hasn't been reported a lot so I'd exchange the phone.

My girlfriend and I have the same german sgs2 (dbt) and mine has a bit of a greenish tint whereas hers had a but if a reddish tint. You can't notice it when using the phones alone but when you put them side by side you can notice it a little bit, but really not that much. Seems to be an AMOLED thing. Maybe I'll manage to take a photo for you.

Thanks a lot for that image. I have been wondering what people were talking about when they mentioned pinkish screen...
Luckily I don't seem to have that problem. It seems like there are a few defective screens out there.
perhaps supercurio will have a voodoo colour fix with the sgs2 whenever he releases it. It fixed the tinge on the original sgs. Look it up if u are unfamiliar with it
I changed the phone today and got a new one. Its better now and significany less pink color.
Also I discovered something that the pink tint is only visible when u look at the screen 90 degrees. If u tilt the phone a little (5-10 degrees) to left-right or up-down and view like that the color turns normal (like my year old sgs).
It made me realise that this is a screen coating issue (maybe coating causes polarisation). So do u think this will go away with the time of use?
When I turn off the screen and check it under light by tilting I can see a little purple glare.
What do u think?
I think I have a problem with my phone, but not too sure if it's normal. I got my phone last Friday. Whenever the screen's on a grey or white background I get discoloured faint thick lines going down it. It is like a hologram.
Just wondering if anyone has the same and how are your display's like
Thanks
your screen is defective, or your gray page isn't actually solid gray. go into a drawing app and make a solid black or white or gray page and confirm it's actually the screen and not the apps you're using.
there's no burn in on amoled. only defective screens

As far as i know Amoled suffers in burn in. My friend's S1 and my S2 has it. Noticeable especially in low brightness. When backgrounds are gradient of black to gray, the screen looks dirty on low brightness. I saw an S3 on Samsung shop had a very visible burn in of a clock widget even on max brightness.

Due to the different aging characteristics of the individual subpixels you will get a burn-in like screen after a while, especially where content is frequently shown. Like the clock in the notification bar. After a while/few months that spot will be seen when watching a solid colored background for example. Is the case on EVERY amoled screen there is.
Thanks for the replies.
I have tested it using a lcd test app and it is noticeable on a solid grey or white background. It's patches of faded pixels.
Was wondering if anyone with a S4 has the same problem and where would I stand with getting it replaced.
I can understand that amoleds suffer from screen burnin after sometime but not when it's brand new. My old s3 is perfect and I've had that for nearly a year.
Thanks
IMHO get it replaced.
My S4 also does this. Black and white are very good, but grey isn't very good. Check te picture below. I have also added the picture I tested it with.
Should I return it?

i wouldnt put up with that. I had the same thing on my first s4, had it for an hour and said im not living with that, took it back to att and got a new one. now its perfect!
swap that out
I saw an interesting issue with 2 G2 Phones when I went to upgrade today and I wanted to see if others saw the same artifacts.
1.) When holding the screen under bright light, it looks like you can see "through" something and it appears like you can see a pattern of some sort either on the LCD itself or maybe some sort of polarizer. If this was the only thing I noticed it wouldn't have been an issue.
2.) When on a dark or black screen, you can see vertical "stripes" of dotted white lines. This was the deal breaker for me. I purchased the upgrade, they handed it to me and all I could see were these vertical stripes of white dots across the screen.
The other G2 did this as well. Were these a bad batch of G2s? Is this some sort of artifact of the IPS screen? I was coming from a Droid HD which had nothing of the sort but it isn't nearly as high resolution of a screen.
I ended up with a Note 3 because of this. It wasn't my first choice, but there was no way I could look at those stripes for 2 years!
Are any others seeing this artifact on the screen?
Thanks!
It's the digitizer. All G2's are that way I believe. Not a defect. Some phones you can just see it more than others.
OP let me get this straight, you don't like the phone because of the dot matrix you see when the phone is off and in direct sunlight?
You are right I couldn't live with looking at my phone while off for 2 years

It's when the screen is BLACK or DARK while the screen is on. I think whomever suggested the digitizer is probably right.
One of the artifacts didn't really bother me, I was more so fascinated by the pattern than anything else. To see that one the light had to be intense and direct (screen on or off) so very low likelihood of that impacting day to day use.
The artifact that really bothered me was, for lack of a better explanation, the white dots on the screen that looked like backlight bleeding through tiny vertical perforations in the LCD panel. I'm sure that's not actually what it was, but that's what it looked like to me. I'll probably end up with a G2 in addition to the Note, but I wanted to know if the ones I looked at were part of a defective batch or not.
Thanks

What is the other phone? Go to settings -> display -> color mode and set color to normal, that will normalize it a little. It's set on vibrant by default. Regardless of that setting though, the screen on this phone is a "warm" one compared to others. The phone on the left is "cold" and bluish in comparison. Warm screens are a little more yellow/red, cold are blue. If the other phone is AMOLED there's your reason, but even if it's LCD, it's just tuned a bit differently. You should know that the phone on the left isn't producing a perfect white either, just a kind of white you're used to. Personally I prefer a warm screen, I find colder screens harder on my eyes.
TLDR- it's working as intended.
Unless you screwed with some settings no that isn't normal. If my whites were that yellow I'd return it. While an LCD might never be as white or black as an amoled it shouldn't look like 20 year old yellow paper either. WIth LCDs if you lower the brightness the screen will become more colored but nothing like that. You can also go compare it to some phones at the store that have LCD's and get an idea if its out of whack.
I spoke to two different support people at motorola ...one said it was normal for this phone as the screen was optimized for gaming?? .....the other said it was not normal and I should return it.
I tried using the app 'screen adjuster' to boost the blue light and it did indeed make it look white rather than yellow so it seems to be a color temperature setting so I'm still not sure wether changing the phone would make any difference and I can't compare in stores because they don't have them yet.
p.s. the other phone is an LG G2 which is LCD
Mine seems to have a little yellow at low screen brightness but it doesn't seem as bad as in your photo. I probably would not have noticed if not for this thread. Is your screen brightness low? Mine gets more white as the brightness goes up.

If it bothers you you can go through the return process and see if another one is different. My phone looks pretty much the same next to my Galaxy Note n-7000. That's AMOLED, but AMOLED or not, screens can be bluish. For perspective, here's what white looks like for reference. Neither of the phones are producing white. One is bluish, one is yellowish. Do you notice it when you're not comparing phone screens? After a few minutes of looking at the screen, going from app to app or looking at pictures, do white things register as white?

I noticed it had a very warm color temp immediately I turned it on, and then got my other phones to compare ....it does bother me yes ...it's like having a TV with a yellowish screen ....I'm pretty sure it can be fixed with a software update and is not a hardware problem which is why I'm not sure if returning the phone would accomplish anything unless I see some other pures to compare
I just found this thread on another forum:

I also noticed that the Moto X screen runs a little warm with regard to color temperature. When browsing the web via Chrome, there’s a noticeable yellow tinge, especially when compared with the iPhone 6 Plus’ screen.

Mine is warmer color from 50% to 0%, Higher values and its very white. Didn't even notice it till I saw this post and well, it can't be unseen lol. I keep my display around 10-20% usually on the low side however at night in bed it doesn't look warm at all.
