I never used smartphone and now decided to buy one. Obviously SGS2 is better phone but it costs like 1.7x times more than SGS1. What you guys think it's worth overpaying that much for newer version of galaxy or SGS1 is still really good phone?
SGS1 Excellent phone but this is a much better phone. Buy what you need .

Right now, yeah, you could get by pretty well with a galaxy s1. The question is, how well will it work in a year and a half? The 3 real arguments for the S2 over the S1 right now are:
1) It's a shiny new toy and I want it really bad.
2) It's somewhat more future-proof. This phone won't be the best in a year and a half, but it will still be pretty good.
3) I'm a huge power-user, and I fall into the 1% of phone users who push the hardware to the limits, and so yes, I need this phone.
Honestly, for me it was a combination of 1 and 2
I have both, and are both very good phones, but out of the two the SGS2 wins hands down, just by the slickness of it, no jerkiness when scrolling or playing HD games , and the extra size in display really does make a difference too !
Both are great phones. If you are planning to keep the phone for a while then I'd recommend the SG2 as dual core is not really being maximised at the moment but should do in the future but then hey we may get quad core phones. If audio is important to you then get the SG1 with the voodoo sound its one of the best mobile devices for audio playback the SG2 has a different sound card which is inferior.
You'll be happy with either, SG1 still has a good following, also check out the forthcoming galaxy plus.

I would say main reason for me would be 2). I want a device which going to be good in the following 2-3 years. But on the other hand SGS1 will be good as well I don't care about playing games.
What really makes me want buying SGS2 vs. SGS1 is the less lag and more ram - I care most about those things. People say SGS2 is much faster and less laggy.
Today I saw it and it's really huge, maybe even too huge
You can easily flash gingerbread 2.3.4 on the s1. No lag whatsover and a faster filesystem ext4. I have a 10 year old pc of similar hardware and dont see why the s1 is not goo enough for a few years. I used to have one before I lost it

Both are great phones, but at this time the SGS2 is the better option.
Sgs2 has hspa+. And there are spots in my country where i get this. The real usefullness of this phone will happen by next year where there will be lots of accesories. I plan to keep this for 3 years.

lol offcourse sgs2 no doubt on it !!!
I feel it's going to be a difficult decision
I have both. I wouldn't have either if Samsung didn't fix my GS1 for free, but it's clear i couldn't go back to it, it's either GS2 or nothing. The speed difference is massive and that's why my wife has the 1 and i have 2.
I came from the SGS and got the SGS II now. For me the kicker was the lag and overall smoothness. SGS II has zero lag on scrolling, browsing, and on opening apps. And it doesn't matter how many apps you have open. There is a huge huge difference in lag and smoothness between the two.

I have a sgs1 and I did some comparison tests with my neighbour's sgs2
The sgs1 got only 2 advantages:
The sound is superior even without voodoo tweaks...actually the sgs1 got the best sound of all devices I tested including some standalone MP3 players
The second advantage is the price that is going down exactly because of the sgs2
For all other features the sgs2 is better
I think I will wait for the next sgs (3?) device, hoping that it will have the wolson sound chipset again or better, since this is one of the main features for me (the sound)
«»
Edit: and with sgs3 I mean Hercules ??
Thx for advices!
Now after reading about amoled screens I started to worry about possible screen burn in after some time. I buy phone for 3+ years I would be very dissapointed if the screen won't last that long..
You gotta get your information sources straight man...
It make no sense what you are talking about...
I recently got the SG2 (replacement for a broken htc desire) and the phone feels so much better. My dad has the sg1 and i'd rather have the sg2. I reckon if you bought the sg1 and a mate of yours showed you his nice new sg2 you would be jealous.
I was jealous...till I went comparing the sound quality....
Now I will wait on the Samsung hercules, hoping it is going to have the Wolfson chipset back as the sgs1 has:
http://www.androidauthority.com/sam...-hercules-coming-to-t-mobile-in-august-14441/
So the price difference where I live is exactly 2x more for SGS2 than for SGS1. Do you think it's worth paying two times more?

Hi guys
I want to buy a new smartphone and I am thinking about samsung galaxy s i9000 because it's obviously very good phone and currently the price is very reasonable. But this phone has only 512 ram and I want for example at the same time to use web browser, skype, listen music, etc. I mean is all that ok for a phone or it will start lagging a lot? Maybe it's not worth buying it cause it's already 1 year old and phones with 2x more ram and dual core cpus comming, so maybe it's worth waiting for them to get cheaper? Or it's still very good investment for a price? (SGS2 costs like 1.7x more so too much for me)
Have a look at that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1173923
I still would recommend it, especially because it's now about 300€ and there are only a few little bugs left, which i hope will be fixed with the next update (like browser-scrolling etc.). Also battery life is very good since JVO i think.
Today I was doing a side by side comparison on my 9000 / 2.3.4 with my cousins 9003 / 2.3.3
Edit SGS from 3 / 2.3.4 vs SGS2 from craphonewhorehouse / 2.3.3
the 9003 is physically bigger, and has a physically bigger screen, and it has a dual core cpu...... but......
speaking *personally* the 9003 is a little too big, in fact the 9000 is already pushing the boundaries on size for a "phone"
the bigger screen in nice, but I know someone who uses a 7" galaxy tab as a phone, for phone / mms / email the 9000 screen is as big as I want.
dual core? well if I played games I might need it, but the single core on my 9000 does everything *I* ask it to, including playing video seamlessly.
=========================================
sweet **** all in it so far, all personal preferences...
the REAL difference is the 9000 is mature, incredibly well known, with an incredible set of resources and knowledge.
the REAL difference is not being the latest and greatest any more, the 9000 is cheaper, significantly cheaper.
I was offered a straight swap today 9000 <> 9003, I turned it down.

Thanks for opinions.
Well the main thing for me I think is RAM. Is SGS not slow when having several programs running (skype, web browser, music..)?
I only recently got an i9000 and found it really doesn't matter about its age, it performs incredibly well, and has the advantage of having a massive load of excellent custom roms to use.

Besides the the missing dual core, I think i9000 is gold for it's value. Which I might add, is running current performance standard for all phones since dual core is considered high end atm.

I9003 don't have dual core cpu it's 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU, PowerVR SGX530 GPU, TI OMAP 3630 chipset
you can buy i9000 for now as it's still one of the fastest phones and next year you will be able to buy i9100 at less once galaxy s 3 comes
I'd go for a newer phone than the Galaxy S if it had a greater variety of mods/kernels. I don't think that's going to happen for a while =P
The Galaxy S II looks promising, though.
The SGS has a good balance between hardware specs and software / os requirements.
The SGS 2 doesn't have this balance. At this time, 99% of the users simply don't use that extra hardware capacity.
In my view, the decision to purchase an SGS2 vs an SGS really boils down to the screen and the camera. If you want the Full HD video recording, improved camera and better screen and you think the price premium warrants it - then go for SGS2.
But if you think the SGS is more than satisfactory in these areas, then SGS it is.
People talk about the improved hardware specs of the SGS2... but until that translates into real-life improvements "my SGS2 can do this...and your SGS can't" then we simply won't see people rushing out to buy them.
You can guy mine if you want....comes boxed with everything!
RoOSTA
Recently got one. I look at it as a mid range phone with lots of custom roms. For me, its a great phone to start off for Android due to its resources.
i've only gotten mine for about 2 months now, and it's worth it, came from a wildfire... and i must say the community here is heaps more different than the wildfire community (i enjoy it here more)... the wildfire community had some ppl that annoyed me so much and were so clueless about everything lol

Unless u got cash to burn or always wanted to have the latest gadget. If not, I would say SGS is still worth to buy.. With many custom rom.. I would say it's one of the stable android phone around.. Of cos, not the latest in terms of hardware (dual core)..

You should definitively go for the SGS.
I got mine 2 months ago, and I'm sure I'm going to still like my phone in 2 or 3 years, if it makes it through
Get the sgs, then get the sgs 2 in 18 months when its cheap (if you can handle large size) sgs is great, android apps not really able to fully exploit dual core yet

i had sensation as second phone so i would like to share my feelings.
I purchased this flagship from HTC having HTC desire S, and also HD. Desire S is owned by my wife atm and she is happy enough. so i like HTC - thats for start
First feelings - impressed- nice phone. Got it - charged to full and lets rock!
Booting and starting to check out system. after 1 hour with screen on + wifi my battery went down to 35% - i say ok its the first cycle lets wait. - after one week its the same. if u wanna watch movie in plane while flying for about 2 hours u better take spare battery - not saying there is no divx support at all.
- keeping sync on gmail and just stand by eats the battery about 10% a hour! not touching the device at all.
-i though ok, lets live with pure battery anyway. but then it started. while holding the phone in landscape - death grip is saying HELLLOOOO i am here! loosing conectivity is normal - wifi disapear - signal went down 2. amazing. i coudlnt believe it. i had never suffered from anything like that -talking about HTC.
-web browsing - no hardware acerelation at all means opening web sites with heavy flash content is taking ages. not mentioning zoom in or out during the stream. while SGS2 can keep streaming during the zooming interval without any lags or issues! i was disapointed a badly. i can see small plus with the resolution - u can feel small diference - i mean better - sharper pages. but not brigther or lighter - the display is so reflective that u can use it as mirror and using the phone under direct sunnlight is almost impossible. so one more +handy mirror
someone rings you? hm how can u hear the phone if the volume set on max is extremly low - even my dog cant hear it!!! if u wanna share some youtube video with your friends they gotta put thems ears on the back panel in order to enjoy it. another disapointment - a big one. not speaking about the quality of the speaker (poor anyway) its about the noise level - being extremly low.
i said ok i like HTC so lets find something i can like/enjoy and finally be happy about.
camera/compare to SGS2 is a bit disapointing again. double flash doesnt help. i could paint better pics then sensation can make. i mean it.macro? what is it?
so i kept going and trying - still searching with hope i will like something.
i though ok i will use it as gps navigation in car at least. lol what a fail. after 4 hours on gps battery dead! maybe i am gonna develop double car charger 2in1 in order to keep sensation alive.
no i am not HTC hater at all. but the huge disapointment that HTC made this time is deadly bad. They made nice looking compact device without brain. its like ferrari with skoda engine and seats from seat. i though it will bring something extraordinary and special - even after installing costum roms - the battery improved and speed 2 - not browsing speed and the battery went up from 8 hours moderate use to 8 hours and 10 min - not mentioning juice defender on at all the times ofc.
so i just changed the sensation on local advertising web site for another SGS2 - u set the add and then meet the possible costumer in person.
and i told the guy that i made the deal with him - lets exhchange hurry - and now i will tell u what u did. U could see his frozen face! He become my friend now and after having almost all previous HTC devices he said he wont come back untill something better will be developed - on HTC side.
SO happy days guys here. And just small tip - sensation is the only one device getting closer in terms off hardware to SGS2 - but the reall power of SGS2 is deep in THE SKY!
I hope this will help some people with doubs about battery life and performance issues.
Once again - i have nothing against HTC and i like them, but i believe they didnt set up sensation well atm. looking at stats list it should perform much better then it does. just quick example - i dont like quadrant or bench tests once its fast and smooth i dont need any bench to confirm that. but the highest i could get from sensation was 3400 on quandrant with 1600 OC!!!!! lol
so i will end this with words;
HAPPY BRIGHT DAYS WITH SAMSUNG
forgive me for my broken english

The Sensation is seeming more and more like an interim flagship. The E3D already has more RAM and from everything posted Sense 3.0 is a pig and needs all it can get. The Vigor on Verizon is going to have a full 720p display and a 1.5ghz processor. The Holiday on AT&T is going to have a 4.5" qHD display and also 1GB of RAM. By the end of the year the Sensation's going to be forgotten.

hm i gotta check it out.
I've only just recently jumped onto android after owning every iphone, the sensation was a handset I was considering but reviews put me off.
The two things that made me avoid it were the lack of amoled, and the apparent locked bootloader.
I never got round to playing with a sensation as the store had no demo models.
I am happy enough with my galaxy s so far though

If I had to guess, I'd say either a SGS2.5 or SGS3 will be out before the holidays. The Nexus 3/Prime is supposed to be out in October and the advances I mentioned above in the two HTC phones will probably prompt Samsung to release something higher end. Think about this though. They just updated and are continuing to sell a version of the SGS1 and it's been out for over a year. So the SGS2 may not be state-of-the-art by Christmas but it should still very much be current.
honestly i believe u can use SGS2 for about an year - untill another companies will reach its level. and SGS2 will last on the top untill SGS3 will be released. and the date inst confirmed yet. but SGS1 is still a good phone. if u dont have enough money or dont wanna waste it just stay where u ar and wait for bargain to upgrade.

That's one thing I find overwhelming coming from apple phones, android has so many handsets running so many different versions of the operating system.
With an apple handset you're pretty much fine for a year, though you have to put up with the restrictive nature of ios.
Ah well either way I'm going to try and keep hold of this handset for 12 months, unless something really tempts me to "upgrade"

I appreciate the OP's comments as I have been wondering how the HTC sensation fares compared to the SGS2. I also find it funny that the HTC battery seems to be a little worse than SGS2 especially given the complaints by some SGS2 users about battery life. I can watch about 5 hours of video on mine no problem.

I have the Sensation as well and the battery life on it is pretty bad. On the SGS2 with moderate to heavy use I get about 16-18 hours. WIth the Sensation it's a miracle if I get 10. There are two things about the Sensation that are better than the SGS2 and only one is of any practical significance. The first is the HTC keyboard. The auto-correct function on the HTC device is excellent and is far better than Samsung's stock keyboard. The other is weather. No one comes close to what HTC has done with their weather UI. It's nice eye candy but that's about it.

I wouldnt know what to feel if something new and better comes out before the end of the year, If they are going nvidia quadcore (Kal-El) then its highly possible they are gonna out a 720P screen as its been in production already.. I wonder if they improved anything aside from bumping the res.
The SGS1 was the fastest phone for almost a year when it got released. NOTHING from the competition could compare when it came down to pure specs last year.
The Desire HD and iPhone 4 were the closest competition, and the SGS1 always won out in benchmarks and in IRL usage.
I would say that the SGS2 will probably not be trumped until early next year. The Nexus Prime will probably have similar innards as the SGS2

iRL usage there are some few aspects the the Iphone4 is faster but other usage scenarios the S1 was faster and was even far more functional than the Iphone4.
Im pretty sure Iphone5 will be targeted to compete with the S2, Infact I even wish the Iphone5 would be better + faster in the majority of tests so that Samsung and Google can hurry up ang release the S3 and ICS.

I would have to agree 100% the SGSII is hands down the best phone on the market right now. And even more so with a few tweaks the speed and performance along with excellent battery life will make it #1 for a long time.
My friend just got it. It's really very light in terms of weight. Nice!
S2
Yes it is really nice. Thin and very light. It holds better in my opinion than even the Galaxy S (1). It was the European version, couldn't get it unlocked to use on US so saw no real service on it but the menu style and camera functions are similar but those small enhancements always intrigue me.
i love my Sammy GSII
I waited patiently for the dual core handsets to come out, then hesitated many times over which one to buy. Finally got my SGS2 this week and rooted next day! I must say, Terga 2 games blew my mind, streaming FLV movies on the go is finally a possibility, Touchwiz makes more sense than 'sense' and finally the color depth of the screen is second to none.
Amazing phone, i doubt i'll need to upgrade for the next 12 months
What a phone it is , I just love my GSII. Awesome work has been done by Samsung.
SGII is my dream) the q is, buy or not to buy? I think to buy)
I have it 2 weeks ago, it's great!
Agree beste phone ever
i've had mine since the uk launch day and i haven't felt any regret about paying premium on the unbranded unit one bit.
I would have preferred to purchased the 32GB version but i guess i can just upgrade to nexus prime when it get released

Care to explain? Based on my experience, GS2 was a huge improvement from GS1
That is if the US even gets the S 2 and if they ever release a CDMA version. With the way its looking and Apple being a bunch of spineless uninnovative ******* we may never see the phone.
There's been rumours that there will also be an SGS2 with hardware keyboard. As hardware keyboard-zealot... I can't wait for that one. Let's hope it won't stay a rumour though.
Its a good phone but i dont understand all the praises it gets^^ Its all plastic, it overheats, it has problems with some 3d games and the screen just looks aweful in my opinion.
Maybe im just used to LCD screens but it comes down to this for me: Advantage of the sgs2 display: Black is black. Disadvantage: All other colors are way off. White is more like light blue and no comment about the green in the android market for example.
Speaker sucks too. And dualcore is just for the lulz atm. Nothing out there that is really using it as far as i know. But it takes alot of juice. That and bad software results in 1-2 days of battery life from what i've heard in different forums.
I dont see any reason why this phone should be better than my DHD which has the same screen size also a pretty bad speaker and 1-2 days of battery life. But i prefer SLCD and aluminium case, and the software/custom roms are way more advanced.
I'll wait for the next generation Ice Cream Sandwich phones from htc or samsung. Also interesting to see what will come out of Motorola now that google bought it!
Note: I dont want to bash the SGS2, its a good phone. But i dont see it being way better than everything else. Just at least take one look at the phone before you buy it to check if the display is for you and be prepared for some software issues (touchwiz + 3d games).
i've tried it...
hello every one, I've got a SGS 1 with CM7.
It works great, even 7.1.0 is in RC....
I've used for about 20 minutes SGS 2 of a friends of mine and I've seen with my eyes the improvment that Samsung Samsung have done.
If before we compare SGS 1 with the iphone 4, the SGS 2 is clearly better than iP4.
no doubt about it.
8M camera, display AMOLED so much improved, dual core....
Hope 4 a CM7 stable for both SGS 1 and 2

This is all I needed to read to know that you have no idea what you're talking about. 1-2 days?? Are you kidding me?? It's an Android, not a Blackberry. The DHD was maligned in every review because of poor battery life, and that poor battery life was 6-14 hours.
I believe many of you have come from galaxy SII or any other high end devices. I've had galaxy SII for 6 months and now I have to decide whether buy a galaxy SIII or not.I know S3 is much more powerful but seems to lack to present real new features. I doubt Whether it's worthy to upgrade or not. I would like to hear your opinion, however I appreciate sincere answers not only some radical misjudges.

I have the Epic Touch on Sprint (GS2), and I preordered. However, the more reviews I saw and sample photos and the like, I couldn't see that it was worth the upgrade and a new 2-year jail sentence with Sprint. I cancelled my preorder and will stay with the Epic Touch, which I'm very pleased with.
I'll say why I upgraded from my SGS2 which I loved, bigger is better. Wanted a bigger screen but not to sacrifice pocketability, so 4.7 or 4.8 was the ideal size next compared to the GNote.
I'm a sucker for new technology so quad core performance.
I went with the HOX to have a change. Also got the sgs3 to test so will say why I think it's a a good upgrade.
Bigger HD screen. Once you go HD you'll love it.
Notification light very useful from my BlackBerry days for multiple events.
Wolfson DAC s2 sound quality wasn't the best so having a Wolfson back is a pleasant move and if supercurio brings voodoo sound it'll be even better.
Better camera.
Quad core, it's fast but the sgs2 is no slouch either. Nothing maximises quad yet.
New Touchwiz slightly better than the previous version but not a sole reason to upgrade.
Smart stay is useful in certain situations.
It's an upgrade but not a huge upgrade. I still think if your happy with the sgs2 then no need to upgrade best to wait for prices to drop then make the move and any initial issues to be sorted out. My one has the yellow tint.

Have a high end device that I will own for a few years!
It will have lots of modders, so it will stay updated through the times
Just like the First galaxy S series has
My Galaxy Nexus is like 8 months old, and looks about 5 years old the paint is mullered, the metal round camera is scuffed basically it looks ****ed.
My S2 never looked like that even after 18 months.
I have been out of contract for about four months, rocking a Thunderbolt, and I was just bored to tears with it. I've done all the ROM's and just wanted to move on.
I really considered dumping VZ, but it's hard to walk away from that damn network lol. I didn't see any other phone coming soon that interested me, including the HOX. I need sd card and removable battery, otherwise I'd be using an iphone.
Great specs need something else to play with as my nexus is phasing out.
This is not just a phone - Galaxy Nexus
I've been on an Epic 4G (Sprint's original Galaxy S) since it's launch. It's feeling quite dated even though CM9 has given it some new life. It was between the SGSIII or the HTC EVO LTE (One X). The non-removable battery on the HTC made my decision pretty easy.
I'm still more than happy with my sgs2, I won't be upgrading yet, this will do till the sgs4 - a real upgrade

Maybe you did the best thing.I really would love have the best one in the market but, there should be some really noticeable advantages to pay for it.

Yep you're right too.The screen is bigger but just about 0.5 inch. I haven't had SGS3 in my hand but I've played with my friend's HOX and have to say SGS2 screen is still one of the best.even more,I found the HOX a laggy device in contrast to SGS2.

About having the high end device i have to disagree with you.it only takes 6 months to find a new monster in the market.but I think you're right about the modders. For know my only motivation is migration of great devs like gokhanmoral to SGS3.

I loved T-mobile's Galaxy s2, so the s3 was a must have.
I have a HTC Aria, its 2 years old only has 3G on it, iPhone size screen. I'm ready to upgrade. The battery life of the S3, doubles mine, the 2GB ram quadruples mine, and the processor well lets just not compare those.
Haha had an aria as well for a year then got an inspire... I thought I was making a huge jump
"All this knowledge is giving me a major brainer!"
My first Droid (coming from iPhone 3Gs) is this Thrill 4G. I went by specs and the 3D feature. Everyone said it was a gimmick, but I liked it and it will be the only thing I will miss about it.
Anyway, it turned out to be a real dog. Nothing but issues with my music (especially playlists), missed calls that it doesn't tell me about but I get the messages, slow camera and I could go on. I have restored it, rooted it, tweaked it and I am sick of it.
Two of my friends have GS2s and they have always been so much better and faster. So much more support. So much prettier, snappier, better pictures. But I waited. I waited for the successor. Now it is coming to the U.S. and I can finally trump my buddies! MUHAHAHAH!!! Then one of them ordered the GS3 also, but I'll have mine first! Maybe. Depends on the Judge I suppose.
Anyway, that's my story. Excuse me whilst I go back to converting my 3D pics to 2D.
I've had my captivate since late 2010, and though I've had a faster Android experience with the Transformer Prime, I'm ready to experience it in a phone.
Apart from that, I've really wanted LTE for a whole. 3G is just too slow.

I've had an iPhone 3G (9 of them...) for the past 4 years. It's painstakingly slow! You guys don't even know! If i was being chased by a pack of wild tigers I'd probably get mauled before I could call 911 on this crap. Also for me, iOS is very stale and boring now. I want something new and FRESH! I love customizing everything I own and Android will allow me to do just that.
Curious to see why all fellow members haven't changed from their SGS3 to a newer phone.
In my case, I still haven't found a phone that is at least 2x superior in every aspect. The SGS3 still has a very good camera, big HD screen, 1080P video recording, lots of storage (48GB in mine), Android 4.3, etc.
I tried the Nexus 5 recently but ended returning it. The vibration and Wi-Fi signal were very weak. They were worse than on my SGS3. Also had the microphone audio problem when recording videos. Screen was great. Camera was worse than my SGS3. The overall tone and colors were darker and pictures were a downgrade. I'm still amazed at the picture quality of my SGS3. It takes great pictures, and I like having the peace of mind of having enough storage to shoot 100 minutes of 1080P video (I do record a LOT of videos using my phone).
Also battery on the Nexus 5 is not such a big improvement. It's better, but I would have preferred to upgrade to 3000 battery and maybe a 13Mpx camera.
Only thing I dislike of my SGS3 is the speed animation and fluidity. Animations are not consistent. I tried turning animations off but don't like it either. I've also tried CM11 and it's good, but still animations are not 100% consistent and quick.
So what about all of you? Why are you still using your SGS3 and haven't upgrade?
I will wait for SGS5 and LG G3.

I've paid 600€ for my s3... And the next time im gonna paid so much money for a smartphone it must be the ultimate high end smartphone.. At the moment there is no Phone i would buy.. Maybe Note 3 But better wait for s5.... And i defenitly stay on Samsung.. Best Displays for.. Hardware is top.. Only the Software could be better.. And if you drop ur smartphone often u gonna like the plastic .. Also Samsung is the Only one Who still bring update for a 2 years old device.. (Google too But dont like their devices.).. So I am Lucky with my s3.. Still Stock Sammy look and firmware... No issues with the Phone even i have an insane Chip..

Because it's still being a very good option comparing it with other phones. I will wait for S5 or a Nexus.....
I'm still locked in my contract until June, also there's nothing that exciting right now.
In June the S5 will probably be out, but I'm reluctant to buy Samsung again with the Knox BS, so I'll see what I can get.
It's a solid device
Like other posters said, the performance gap between an S3 and say a Nexus 5 isn't really enough to justify a new expensive handset. I'll reconsider later in the year when the Nexus 6 is announced.
The replaceable battery and SD card have really made a difference that I didn't expect (I only got the S3 as an insurance replacement for Nexus 4). It would be hard to give them up.
The S3 is still very popular worldwide so there is a solid dev scene - example OmniROM - which means I don't really miss out too much on a Nexus device.
i dont like the direction phones are being designed, everyone is putting HD or UHD screens on phones (read: overkill), faster hardware to match, most getting too big also, battery usually stays the same in terms of how much you can actually use your phone...
would only wish for lil more horsepower on s3 gpu and it would be a perfect phone
S3 could be the successor to the HD2, nearly 5 years old and still being developed.
As many people updating to the S4 find, it's no fun owning one on your own -developer support is everything and the S3 has such a huge user base

here in brazil phones are very expensive
Because I paid 40k (indian rupees) for it:laugh:
Anyway the device is still pretty solid overall with no major limitations and awesome dev support. I think i will consider upgrading it when Note 4 comes, I will buy the, then cheaper Note 3 :highfive:
No need, still works like a charm. I don't see anything compelling for me to upgrade, I'll be keeping this for a couple more years easily.
Because bought it half year ago lol, with contract. And I won't have money after the contract will end to buy a new phone,so I think I will stay with this one for 2 or maybe even more years.
But S3 is the world's best selling phone. It's popular, huge user base,it has one of the best development support, and S3 is already fast enough in real world performance and even new games,so I don't need a new expensive phone to just do the same I do in my S3 but have A LITTLE smoother animations.
Because I was saving money for vaction and on top of that, the S3 is still a very solid performer. So there was no real need to upgrade. The ROM developments are active, it has Android 4.3, and the screen is still awesome. I will be changing phone this year though, most likely to the S5.
Simply because my SGS3 is so fast with Nova Launcher, it has great battery life, a pretty good camera and every app I want to use works perfectly fine with it. I only upgrade when the apps I want to use do not run or run bad, or when my phone dies of course
I had the SGS1 before this, I really felt the urge of upgrading when the SGS3 came out, but now I never even thought about upgrading.
EDIT:
Also, when 4G gets mainstream (read:affordable) I will probably want to upgrade, but only if there are proper 4G phones that work on practically all 4G bands. That is a feature that might get me to buy a new phone, as you will get real internet which can be used to properly video call and game on the go.
Coming from the s3 lte to a note 3. The difference is huge but not praticle. I love the note 3 but in some ways the s3 lte was just perfect. Had great size, speed and also every app was designed on it.
Like even mc4 is optimized on the s3 but not the note 3. So we don't get the good graphics.
Anyways everyone stay with the s3 till it dies

Ive had mine for 1 and a half year and i see little incentive in changing it. Buying it for almost 65k Pak rupees and now finding the resale is less than 40% of that value, Maybe 25k for one in perfect condition, but going as low as 10k if it has a damaged screen as mine which is absolute rubbish.
Its a legendary phone that started the high end smartphone battle. Its just a pity about the electronic wastage that goes on, in 1 year a device can not only become old and outdated but turn into an antique, a term that used to be used for being decades old. Camera never ceases to amaze, half HD and full HD screens look the same if your not holding it close to your face and focusing on the pixels.
Battery? Smoothness? I can say my s3 feels just as fast if not faster than the s4 and note 3. The great dev support is pushing battery and performance capabilities to never before seen limits. Theme changes make you believe you own a new phone. In the case of the S4/note3 roms, you are convinced you have an S4/note3 as in S4 Revolution or Glamour S4/Note3.
The cool gimmicky but useless features you might ask about? Smart Pause/Smart Scroll have already been ported. The Note 3's air command is hardly hardware related, and could show up in a few months if not less. So we got all and ever more that we need from our S3.
Im proud to have an S3.
Because my work pays for my phones, i get 230 euro a year to get phone for, if i don't buy one i can save the money so the year after have 510 euro to buy a phone for. So i´m saving money right now
I don't see any reason to buy a new phone other than a old gpu in s3, but i'm sure it'll run fine for next 1 year
To be honest, custom samsung roms 4.3 made me not want to change so soon. Before that, phone was really bad. Lagfest with 4.1 with no ability to multitask. Aosp melted way to much battery for my liking. With 4.3 I got some of the multitasking power back, nearly no lag and very good battery. If it dies, i'll get a nexus 5 as it's the best bang for the buck. If not, I'll stick around. Depending on samsung with their knox tech though, the day they shove such crap down my throat is the day they lose me as a client.

This is because it worked great, until now ;P
I hope I switch soon to OPPO's new winner, or cyanogenmods new phone !
