Just include all files under /system, may be no use at all. Since someone leaks it, I post it here
or maybe you could investigate it for new features.
PS:Find the "**下载" button, press it, your download should start or Use google translation.
Edit: someone has got the .sbf, but without signature, it can only be flash to engineering device. So he leak the /system only.

we get the sbf but its unsigned...

Sooo I'm back from my holiday
And this looks very promising! It's just... it doesn;t matter how much I push that button, the download doesn't start

e...where can we upload the .7z?

Leak it, even without a signature.

Able to download it here in the UK, great news!

so...could we restore the system only via CWM recovery?

I could not follow through...
this is a packed (.7z) version of /system of new GB Rom for MM2?
What use does it have for us? Would it work if I upgraded /system?

I also got it,but it unsigned.

Leak it, some might have an engineering sample and be able to flash it.

Any brave volunteers?

I have built a Froyo ROM from source. I got the Captivate vendor files from Krylon360 over at Cyanogen, updated them, and built a ROM. I was able to get the leaked Froyo Captivate system.img and extract it so I could get the files required for our device. The ROM build cleanly and I was able to restore it to my device but since I have an Eclair kernel it will not boot. I actually read later in a forum that an Eclair kernel won't boot a Froyo system.
Anyway, I am looking for anyone who has a Captivate with the leaked Froyo build installed to try and restore my ROM. It will not brick your phone, I promise. I took a Nandroid backup before restoring and when I saw why it wasn't booting in logcat I booted into recovery and restored my last backup.
I just want to see if this guy will boot properly with a Froyo kernel and also see if I have all the device drivers working, etc.
Thanks!
Just replied to your other post Let's do this!
Sounds pretty awesome, but why didn't you just flash a Froyo kernel on your phone? Upload it and post up a link so we can see what you have.

He's not running windows and therefore can't use ODIN to swap kernels.
I was planning on flashing to Cog beta 8 today anyway.... I can give it a try.
Flashing requires Odin which requires Windows which I do not have.
I will post a dropbox link in a few minutes.
I built without kernel so if the ramdisk.img gives you grief, exclude it from the backup and also remove it from nandroid.md5.
In fact you should only need to restore system.img.
Just saw the above post...I'll be anxiously awaiting the link.
Thanks, guys. Remember, I am doing this for ALL OF US.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6995251/full_captivate.tgz
Like I said, you should only need system.img. So basically, edit nandroid.md5 and strip out the checksums for the other two files. Then copy nandroid.md5 and system.img to your recovery directory. Mine is /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.
Report back what you find.
If you have the sdk installed, please use adb logcat to get me any details. I am working with a couple of guys who work on both Cyanogen and Cognition to hash the details out. Like I said, I got all the hardware-specific files dialed in so we should be okay.
downloading now and will give it a shot..i have a test captivate so I dont mind bricking it.

Thanks. I wanted to go the AOSP route because I think what happens is.. People are modding the factory carrier images but you don't always know what's in there and can end up with crap you don't need. Plus, this is the latest 2.2.1 from AOSP.

You can swap kernels using redbend if you have 2e recovery (which he should considering that he is on Eclair). You can also flash using the open source alternative to Odin that is available here.
Any screenshots?
What are the specs of this Rom? Is it completely AOSP?

Heimdall is it's name. I can attest for it's stability. I've used it quite a few times on Archlinux when I didn't feel like booting into Windows. One note is you always need to give it a PIT file.
you want this loaded thru ODIN?
I'm getting MD5 mismatch... looking into it.

@applefanboylol,
If you have RA, or Clockwork installed, it will not work because if you attempt to boot into recovery(because you replaced the boot.img file with a different recovery system other than stock) the bootloader will take you to the alternate recovery. You will have to remove RA, or Clockwork. To answer your question the update overwrites the existing kernel with a different one.

Do not flash Netarchy nor any other kernel until Android 2.3.5 kernel version is released. I'm sure Netarchy will release 2.3.5 kernel version once the source code is released for public.
Does this update remove root/CWM recovery? It's easy enough to get back, but I'm just double checking before I do anything stupid.
not sure why but the directions state to hold power and vol up after you boot into recovery before the exclamation mark and it just refuses to give me the option to select my update.zip......... blllaahhhhh
edit:: Ok so you have to hit Power first then hold it down when you hit vol up.. That worked perfect for me.

[HOW TO][Compromised] get a Rooted GB

Attention: By this method, you use an old leak rooted /system, but the others are newest.
And walter79 said he will release a new rooted nandroid backup tomorrow.
This method has worked for my M2.
1.Follow the steps here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169038
2.But replace the fixedsbf with this new one http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8YN9JY8B
The first boot may take a longer time, please wait for at least 5 min.
[updated]3.Once you get your phone rooted, for google services, come here http://android.modaco.com/topic/335141-addoncm7-updated-more-google-apps-2011-07-29/

Yes. actually the 2.3.4 has been divided into 2parts: nandroid backup and fixed sbf.
So how can I flash the fixed sbf?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914071
When I tried that the flashing process failed.
Before flashing, press power button+camera button+vol up key to enter bootloader mode.
Ok, see if I'm thinking correctly.
First download the nandroid backup from the another post of the unsigned leak and use it with CWM.
Second flash the milestone2 using the fixed sbf you posted
Yes and yes...
thanks, gonna try it now, wish me luck

Full (not OTA) Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2

No one seems to show GEN2 any love. Its all GEN1 and CUS7. For those that want GEN2 (I live in US), well here you are. A full image for Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2. This is not edited in any way. (This means not rooted). This is probably not going to be useful to the average person. For a modified (but rooted) ROM of this, look here
This is not OTA and can be used without ClockWorkMod (CWM) or any modifications of any kind.
Unzip Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2.zip and place update.zip on the root of your SD card.
I should also mention this is Honeycomb 3.2 for those that don't keep track of the build numbers (and who can blame you?), and this DOES have a locked bootloader. But, nevertheless, and valid source for flashing and other things!

Hi. I have a question....is it rooted? I would hate to update it and lose root. Thanks. Excuse the question, Im fairly new to the Acer scene (1 week).

This is not rooted, it is also bootloader locked. I do not recommend this for you. Try another rom that is 3.2, there are plenty now!
Ty, been waiting for a GEN2 to add to my collection.
Thanks for the heads up. Im running Honeyvillain 1.2 but Im curious about the GEN2, as Im in the US as well. I dont know what the differences are, but so far its working smooth, smoother than any other ROM out there.

Yea I wouldn't worry 2 much about GEN2. If you have a choice, get GEN2. Otherwise it doesnt matter. The differences are mostly system files related to keyboards and databases and such from what I have dissected.
Like spelling color as colour and other oddities.
That and different bloatware, not all the same as the US

Vache has a downgrade image to Acer_A501_1.309.02_COM_GEN1 that will work with the new locked bootloader. Root that image then install CWM THEN install a custom rom. That will prevent the boot verification issue!

That problem can be solved by adding the line "ro.carrier=wifi-only" in the buildprop (you can do this with es file explorer or root explorer) and reboot.

I live in the us and while I have rooted my a500 I haven't installed a custom rom yet because the few stock roms are gen1. I want to stay as close to stock as possible and would love to have this 7.006.01_com_gen2 with just root and and bootloader fixed. I thought your "clean" rom might work for me but I'd prefer to have just the stock rom with few modifications. Any idea where I might find something like that?

OTA Update 7.014.1

Tonight i received a notification that there is an update available OTA for my A500.
Version announced is 7.014.01
Where's the update file supposed to be downloaded to?
I tried to apply it, but there was an error somehow. In the middle of the update process a red triangle popped up. How can I examine the update file better?
Are you rooted? My experience is that most devices will notify you of an update just by version checking, but will fail if rooted because the files the upgrade expects to have in place have changed due to rooting. So you have to either go back to stock, lose root or wait for someone to create a new rooted ROM with this update intragrated.

For sure.
Or, it's possible all of that updates have been implemented with some of custom ROMs, like the new Market version, e.g..
I pulled the patch and decrypted it. I pulled the update.zip file now I'm trying to see what I need to do to it to make it flashible through CWM.

If you have a custom rom installed you cannot flash an official update. Also if you have a custom recovery installed it will also fail as official updates can only be flashed via stock recovery. This official zip file would need to be deodexed etc then compiled by a chef to be flashed via cwm.

I think so it works like stock recovery but with more options , it is the update script that tells where everything needs to be.
But make sure you remove recovery from update and that you add su(superuser) in bin or xbin with the proper permissions for root or you will lose it.

Not sure, but they came back-to-back from what I heard from non-rooted users. Got the first one, and then immidietly got the next one when it booted back up.
To me, that says, first update had some minor bug that they found, or remembered, and then fixed, but since some had already updated to .01, they had to just re-patch that one...?
Maybe you could logcat where the first one comes from, and get the second one from the server? I dunno, I'm not a dev, I know just enough to get myself in trouble...
