Once you know the file name (posted in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181833 ) it's easy to work out the direct Google link.

So is the radio.img gotta be ripped out still?

?
How would I update from this zip file?

Haha. thats what i wanna know, i havent updated before.

@applefanboylol,
If you have RA, or Clockwork installed, it will not work because if you attempt to boot into recovery(because you replaced the boot.img file with a different recovery system other than stock) the bootloader will take you to the alternate recovery. You will have to remove RA, or Clockwork. To answer your question the update overwrites the existing kernel with a different one.

Do not flash Netarchy nor any other kernel until Android 2.3.5 kernel version is released. I'm sure Netarchy will release 2.3.5 kernel version once the source code is released for public.

Does this update remove root/CWM recovery? It's easy enough to get back, but I'm just double checking before I do anything stupid.

not sure why but the directions state to hold power and vol up after you boot into recovery before the exclamation mark and it just refuses to give me the option to select my update.zip......... blllaahhhhh
edit:: Ok so you have to hit Power first then hold it down when you hit vol up.. That worked perfect for me.

Any brave volunteers?

I have built a Froyo ROM from source. I got the Captivate vendor files from Krylon360 over at Cyanogen, updated them, and built a ROM. I was able to get the leaked Froyo Captivate system.img and extract it so I could get the files required for our device. The ROM build cleanly and I was able to restore it to my device but since I have an Eclair kernel it will not boot. I actually read later in a forum that an Eclair kernel won't boot a Froyo system.
Anyway, I am looking for anyone who has a Captivate with the leaked Froyo build installed to try and restore my ROM. It will not brick your phone, I promise. I took a Nandroid backup before restoring and when I saw why it wasn't booting in logcat I booted into recovery and restored my last backup.
I just want to see if this guy will boot properly with a Froyo kernel and also see if I have all the device drivers working, etc.
Thanks!
Just replied to your other post Let's do this!
Sounds pretty awesome, but why didn't you just flash a Froyo kernel on your phone? Upload it and post up a link so we can see what you have.

He's not running windows and therefore can't use ODIN to swap kernels.
I was planning on flashing to Cog beta 8 today anyway.... I can give it a try.
Flashing requires Odin which requires Windows which I do not have.
I will post a dropbox link in a few minutes.
I built without kernel so if the ramdisk.img gives you grief, exclude it from the backup and also remove it from nandroid.md5.
In fact you should only need to restore system.img.
Just saw the above post...I'll be anxiously awaiting the link.
Thanks, guys. Remember, I am doing this for ALL OF US.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6995251/full_captivate.tgz
Like I said, you should only need system.img. So basically, edit nandroid.md5 and strip out the checksums for the other two files. Then copy nandroid.md5 and system.img to your recovery directory. Mine is /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.
Report back what you find.
If you have the sdk installed, please use adb logcat to get me any details. I am working with a couple of guys who work on both Cyanogen and Cognition to hash the details out. Like I said, I got all the hardware-specific files dialed in so we should be okay.
downloading now and will give it a shot..i have a test captivate so I dont mind bricking it.

Thanks. I wanted to go the AOSP route because I think what happens is.. People are modding the factory carrier images but you don't always know what's in there and can end up with crap you don't need. Plus, this is the latest 2.2.1 from AOSP.

You can swap kernels using redbend if you have 2e recovery (which he should considering that he is on Eclair). You can also flash using the open source alternative to Odin that is available here.
Any screenshots?
What are the specs of this Rom? Is it completely AOSP?

Heimdall is it's name. I can attest for it's stability. I've used it quite a few times on Archlinux when I didn't feel like booting into Windows. One note is you always need to give it a PIT file.

Need Help Please

First off I'm pretty new to this. I followed the instructions flashing my stock DI18 to DK28. It works just fine no problems. I want to be able to flash back to DI18. How do I do this. Without using Odin. Is there a way just to download a DI18.zip and install it into the root of my sd card power, volume down and camera button flash it? Someone please help.
Thanks

[REQ] 2.3.3 Baseband in an update.zip

I think this would be a very useful file, because I know a lot of people are hesistant to update to 2.3.3 because of the removal of Facebook sync, but are still having issues with reception, reboots, etc. If the fixes are present in the baseband, it'd be great to be able to easily and safely update only the baseband, while staying on 2.3.2/CM7/custom ROM.
I'm not exactly sure of the feasibility on the Nexus S, but I know it was done before on the Droid when I owned that device.
According to Netarchy, the baseband update in the OTA is "patch-based", so it's not the full radio image, but rather changes to the existing one. So the full updated image would have to be created by applying these patches to the existing baseband. I'm not sure if that's possible to do off of the device, or if it needs to be extracted off a 2.3.3 device.
Anyways, I'm just putting in this request/suggestion. Please let me know what you guys think. Maybe if there's enough demand for it, a dev would undertake this
I like this idea.

It's risky, because it's not tested yet. I think it would work, but I have little experience with Android development.
The ROM is (I think) divided into several sections, like recovery, system, boot, and radio, so flashing just the radio should not mess up anything else.
I didn't end up trying that update file posted above, as I found another method to get the 2.3.3 baseband. I've written up a little guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971239
It does require fastboot, but will surely work.

[ROM]I897UCKF1 Odin-1-Click Gingerbread 2.3.3 w/ Optional Fugu Root

After using Odin 1 Click or flashing the rom from another thread you can root using the method below.
Root method:
1. Extract and open Odin3 v1.81.zip and place the zImage-root.tar file in the pda slot.
2. Connect your phone to your PC.
3. Put your phone into download mode (Same as eclair/froyo 3-button combo or adb reboot download)
4. Phone will boot and show the fugu fish.
5. Power off and put your phone into download mode.
6. Place the kernelKF1.tar file in the pda slot and hit start. Phone will reboot.
7. You are now rooted with Stock 2.3.3 Gingerbread.

It's the same risk thats envolved when using the odin 1-click to stock eclair. As long as your power doesn't go out or the mean magic mushroom people don't disconnect your phone in the middle of your phone flashing the bootloaders you'll be fine.

Full (not OTA) Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2

No one seems to show GEN2 any love. Its all GEN1 and CUS7. For those that want GEN2 (I live in US), well here you are. A full image for Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2. This is not edited in any way. (This means not rooted). This is probably not going to be useful to the average person. For a modified (but rooted) ROM of this, look here
This is not OTA and can be used without ClockWorkMod (CWM) or any modifications of any kind.

I should also mention this is Honeycomb 3.2 for those that don't keep track of the build numbers (and who can blame you?), and this DOES have a locked bootloader. But, nevertheless, and valid source for flashing and other things!

Yea I wouldn't worry 2 much about GEN2. If you have a choice, get GEN2. Otherwise it doesnt matter. The differences are mostly system files related to keyboards and databases and such from what I have dissected.

I live in the us and while I have rooted my a500 I haven't installed a custom rom yet because the few stock roms are gen1. I want to stay as close to stock as possible and would love to have this 7.006.01_com_gen2 with just root and and bootloader fixed. I thought your "clean" rom might work for me but I'd prefer to have just the stock rom with few modifications. Any idea where I might find something like that?
