Got the Youtube app to work :) - HD Mini General

I found something that may be intresting for the devs here. I already used the Search function and didn't come up with anything anyways.
Start the phone and go to youtube app.
Click a video, you see sound but no video.
Hit back button and select another video, and now u got smooth video and sound
I was using 3G network for the video if that matters! I was also using the trick with FM radio in WinMo for the hadspeakers to work.

I heard this solution somewhere else before. It was noted there that the sound of the first video would not stop by using this method. Can you confirm that in your case the sound of the first video does stop?

I know video worked before, but worked only low-def video. Do you seen high def video or you seen low def video?? Other I need to know is: if you see high def video, do you see high def video using wifi??
Please report it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168758

Problem with videos:
I used strace and full dumped youtube app execution and I found problem is in kernel "futex(0xcddc, 0x80 /* FUTEX_??? */, -54) = -1 ETIMEDOUT (Connection timed out)" hmm unknown futex? See strace log! How to track this ayone know? Also that is found in camera strace!
I added strace in mine release! How to use strace? Simple, run for example camera, find what pid of camera proces is with command ps ,and than use this command:
strace -p pid_you_want_to_trace -v -o /mnt/sdcard/strace.log

Are the other kernels same errors?

Youtube + Panel dont work

Hey Guys!
First i wanna say, great site
I got a problem with the youtube app and panel which i can download here. I installed the youtube app and the panel which came from this url.
The problem is, when i click on the youtube app it doesnt load, and when i use the youtube panel the screen turns white and nothing happens.
Have u guys got any ideas? Thnx in advance!
greets, Frank
Hi,
I don't have tried the panels, but i have tried a few different youtube apps for X1.
After installing these youtube cabs, even my WMV codecs which came shipped on my phone were currupted. The problem was, that the youtube cabs installed their own codecs and they have overwritten my original ones.
I don't know, if there existing a youtube app which is compatible to X1, but i recommend you don't use any youtube apps, until anyone gives you a link with functional app
I had to Hardreset my X1 to get the original codec of wmv on its place
i hope there is anyone who can post a functional youtube app link
best regards
EpSlasH
mmm, if u check the info on the page, i should say it is a working app.

You should've followed the link and actually read a bit in the youtube app thread instead of creating a new topic :>. Or use the search function of this forum. It works well, I know .
Sounds like you do not have an english winMobile 6 Rom?
You have to change the *.[numbercode].mui in the windows directory to your countries code to get the application working.
Codes and more infos in the youtube app thread. just take a look.
hmmm, right my windows mobile is not an english one...
As i had installed the app, there was no info like that, i think it was too early when i tried
thanks a lot, i will try it again; ofcourse reading instructions
Heh, i have the very same thing. I guess when the title says 'working youtube' i wont bother reading >5 pages just to confirm it really works.
I cant decide it is common logic or lazyness .
hehe ye thnx! It works now =) I just needed to change the filename.
Problem however, i cant see any movies through the app. After a few seconds i get the error: " Error: Cannot play this video ". But the video's work fine when i go to http://m.youtube.com.
Any comments? =)
Heh,
today I went to my favourite F1live website (I'm a real F1 fan)
And was really HAPPY to watch video right from the page with sound!
Damn

Heh, i thought i had it working too, however, same thing as you have. I can scroll, search and pictures show up and all. However, when i want to play a movie. It say's "Error: Cannot play this video".
God, this is driving me nuts.
Youtube with Opera Mobile only works on 50% of the vids', its very choppy too.
Youtube with KinomaPlay works, but its choppy when in landscape and you'll have to pay for the full version to have more then 10 search results.
Youtube with Coreplayer works, but its buggy and crashes ALOT.
Youtube with youtubeplay works, but its only low/med-quality and the interface is very simple and dull.
Man, it will never change

Samsung Galaxy s i9000 Mic sensitivity recording

This is my first samsung. And I think i'm a bit spoiled as a nokia n900 user. But the recorded sound on my samsung galaxy is just horrible in comparison to my n900.
Last night I went to a show of cypress hill here in the Netherlands. And started recording. The video quality is super. Only the noise makes it almost impossible to distinguish any of the songs etc. I mean really horrible.
After some research i found out that users with the samsung omnia had this same issue, and they found a solution wich was adjusting some settings in the hidden menu of the phone.
Is it also possible to adjust these settings in the galaxy s i9000?
Below are the settings for the omnia hd reducing
with phonepad digit *#0002*28346#
then 3) Record
then 04) CamcordARM_AMR (this is volume gain in video record)
Go to
TxMicAmp : 24
digit 18#
and then when you go back will see
TxMicAmp : 25
Then go to
Tx Channel: 18
digit 18#
and then when you go back will see
Tx Channel: 18
To save all changes go back back
6)Backup and will show "Backup OK"
Yeah I noticed the heavy clipping (sounds like static, noise, distortion) in all of the Galaxy S recordings. I haven't really seen anyone else mention it.
However the Omina HD runs Windows Mobile does it not? Totally different OS there..
this should show that menu *#197238640#
Any luck with this? I have opened the service menu, but no idea what to do after that.
i also would like a fix for this!

I got the same problem when I try to run VOIP application. The noise is so terrible. I can enter "service mode", but I don't know how to setup them either.
Same here, video recording is quite useless like this... Went to a concert last evening and video is great but sound is ultimate crap! As in one big pile of noise.
But also when recording a video in the car, with just the radio on, is stretching it... It is at least possible to distinguish different sounds but already distorted.
Such a shame! Any fix for this would be great (and couldn't find much in the servicemode settings unfortunately).
I'm using the JM2 firmware and the sound of recorded videos is poor.
I wish we found the solution, as I had found on i8910
Meh, contacted samsung helpdesk (mail) and got a standard response
'We are currently developing a firmware update, please keep an eye out for it on the samsung website'. (translated from dutch ).
My guess is the firmware update won't fix a thing since it's still present in JM2 but we'll see.

In other words: keep waiting. Saying it will be fixed in next release is the best way to keep customers happy without doing anything
But on the other side maybe with 2. 2 it will be fixed.

Yup, I know... But what can you do. They prolly also don't know much about the technical stuff.
At least there's a new firmware coming up, I think I'll give JP3 another shot and see if things have improved there.
Hey guys,
anyone tried playing with *#*#197328640#*#* => audio => handset => diamond solution => voice booster? or acoustic shock free? sounds like something related to me, gonna try.

that's a good tip
can more people confirm if this optimization works well?
if so, then we can put this as a sticky / FAQ / wiki
Disregard my post about Diamond solution, it's for headphones. I'm pretty sure some parts of the service menu => audio => handset could be tweaked to make audio recording better, just need someone who knows what means what.
There is a way to alter the recording volume during the recording however it requires adb shell and it only lasts for the duration of the remainder of the recording.

That's something at least, wanna share that?
Also I found a quick and dirty workaround if you wanna record some music before some kind of fix appears - just put your finger on the mic hole while recording ^^

Agreed. It's happened to me a couple times.
Just make sure you don't exit the video application until you have STOPPED the video.
The problem is the header isn't written until the recording process is stopped.
And thus...corrupts the video.
I've tried multiple techniques to get an especially important video recovered (phone died while recording).
One was to swap the header with a hex edit from a working video...
Another technique was to split the video into pieces with some program and again use a working video and swap the header piece...
And I remember trying something else too...idk.
Either way, nothing worked.

The temp video files must be saved somewhere does anyone know where?

Video Recording -- DO NOT PRESS "BACK" instead of "STOP"

So yesterday I was recording my friend's graduation, and I was using my Epic. I never had a problem with recording before, and I had taken several videos earlier in the day. Finally after she walks across the stage and sits back down, I'm ready to stop recording. But somebody said something to me and I got distracted and instead of pressing the Stop or Pause buttons on the screen, I pressed the Back button below the screen. Oh well, no problem, I thought. Surely it would still save the video. NOPE!
The video was not in the gallery and I could not find a temporary file anywhere with the right size and timestamp using the file manager. The temporary cached file had to be on the SD card somewhere, because there was not enough RAM or internal flash memory in the phone to store the recording. So I pulled the battery to prevent any further writes to the SD card so I could do some more forensics when I got home.
At home, I found the deleted file on the SD card using TestDisk. It was named temp_video and was in the folder /DCIM/Camera. The timestamp was right, and the file size was 48mb. Sure enough, the headers showed it was a 3gpp encoded video in an mp4 container, just like the rest of the videos recorded on the phone. But no player would play it and no video fixer program would fix it. Apparently the phone has to write a very critical header to END of the file (guess that makes it a footer) when it finishes recording. The MP4 container is extremely sensitive to any missing data and the entire video is basically unrecoverable if the footer data is not written. I did try hacking up the file with a hex editor and copying headers from a good file. I learned all about MP4 file structure but I could still never get anything useful out of it.
So I learned a couple of lessons from this little incident. In conclusion:
Don't EVER EVER EVER press Back instead of Stop when recording a video. The software will helpfully delete the video you have been recording.
Mp4 files are trash. Why do they have to be so ridiculously sensitive to missing data? (put the critical headers at the BEGINNING of the file, for %^&'s sake!!) Why can't the phone record in any other format? I might run out of battery suddenly, or an app might crash, and the same thing would happen.
I believe the app that does the actual recording on the Epic is called CoolIris. I'm not sure if this app is specific to Samsung phones, or if all Android phones use it. I will be looking for alternatives now that can record .mpg or .avi or anything else.
Thanks for the very informative post. Only recently did I have a generic recording failure issue from different conditions, but this will be a good one to remember also. Really the camera app should have some kind of failsafe dialogue box to help prevent this issue at the very least.
Thanks for the heads up I don't use the recording feature regularly, but definitely will avoid this. Sorry your couldn't recover your friend's graduation :*(

I did do some recordings in 1280x720 yesterday. The first couple of videos worked OK, but when I tried to do a longer recording it would go about 10 seconds and then a message would pop up saying "The recording failed". Maybe the write speed to the SD card is too slow and can't keep up?

It's OK, my wife was sitting beside me recording with her EVO 3D. Unfortunately it was blurry because the lens cover on her otterbox was smudged, and she was not holding it very steadily. I know I had a great video and I was mad at myself the rest of the day b/c I lost it. I guess we will end up paying the professional photographer for the "official" stuff anyway..

I'm trying to figure out if thats a rom issue or if it happens on stock as well.
I use to have the recording failed message all the damn time on stock ec05, since moving to srf 1.2 no issues recording. I'm running clean kernel at stock speed /voltage.

Weird Video on SlingPlayer

I'm getting some weirdness while using Slingplayer on my Samsung S7 Edge. I do not have this problem with my Nexus 6. It's quite distracting. I took a video since it's easier than explaining it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGUfh6tFk_g
Any feedback would be great.
/edit/ Basically, there's a green "screendoor" look whenever the video has the slingplayer overlay and when I change channels the entire video goes green while the same thing on my Nexus 6 is fine with the slingplayer overlay and just black video feed when changing channels. I'm actually pretty surprised no-one else has reported something similar since I can't be the only Samsung S7 user that also has a slingplayer.
I will also add that sometimes the green overlay also happens in slingplayer when I'm streaming and no Slingplayer menu is up...
Looks like you may have to update your video codecs for this player to work.

Any suggestions on how to do that? Furthermore, how would I get Slingplayer to use the updated codecs? I believe the video codecs Slingplayer uses are self-contained...
Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?
FYI, others have reported on the youtube video they had similar issues on their S7. One person mentioned the greenscreen started happening after a Samsung update on an ATT phone (mine is a Tmo). That sucks since I'd think it'll take alot longer for Samsung to fix their code than Sling...
Tmo's recent update did not resolve this. It included other fixes (power/volume? issue, etc).
Update: there is a way to fix this. Thanks to "JG 3" at youtube:
Enable Developer Mode, go in to Developer Options and enable the option called "Turn off hardware overlays" (Always use GPU for screen compositing).
For those more knowledgeable than me: will this impact battery life and is there a way to enable this only when launching Slingplayer?
