[Q] USB problem, phone charging but no connection between pc and pda - Galaxy 3 General

Hello,
I have an irritating issue since i flashed my Samsung GT-I5800 with Firmware I5800XXJPF.
Ever since I can no longer connect the phone to my PC. It starts charging, but it does not discover my phone.
I tried to change the USB mode from PDA > to modem and again > PDA using the *#7284# code but then some thing weird happens.
As soon as I put in in modem mode, the PC sees the phone (using ODIN), but I'm still not able to browse the phone (Micro SD) nor can I use the phone in "Kies" (the Samsung backup and management tool).
This results in not being able to flash my phone with the latest Firmware
Does anyone knows how I can enable my USB mode?
Thanks

Did u try this?
Settings -> Wireless and Network -> USB Settings -> Select 'Ask on connection'.
Try connecting the USB cable again, you should now get a notification to select which mode u want. Select Mass Storage.

Thanks man, that did the trick.
Suddenly the phone is working as ecpected in PDA mode, the flash worked, ... i'm a happy man!

[Q] Samsung Kies 1.5.3= No Tether?!

Just last night I tried to tether my phone to the computer via kies. And to my disbelief.. it simply says "This device is not supported by Tethering".
I have had this tethering to work many times before, the only change I can think of is that I recently got an OTA update for the gps fix and now everything stopped working??!
Anyone knows how to make this work again?... and please without rooting the phone if possible
Thanks,
Tim
I cant believe that anyone is NOT having the same problems as me!
Any good news?
Because we simply and safely rooted and flashed Mobile AP. Kies and Kies tethering kinda stunk. Sorry.

Unfortunately you're right. I have 1.5.1 on one computer and 1.5.3 on another - the latter won't allow me to tether. There is a thread floating around about how to setup the phone as a modem and tether for free without an app - sorry, I don't remember where, but I found it earlier this week and it worked great.

Hey thanks for the little glee of hope!
Ill start looking for that app ASAP, could you also try to find that too?
Thanks again,
Tim
Tethering without root:
Install the Samsung Drivers
Turn on Android USB Debugging mode on the phone or put USB into Kies mode. In Android Debugging mode you can use your phone while it's plugged in (but you can't access the internet from the phone when it's tethered) but you can't use your phone in Kies mode (there is the MTP app screen blocking everything.)
Create a new Dialup connection using the SAMSUNG Android USB modem. Phone number is *99#, username and password can be anything, including blank
Go to modem properties, and enter at+cgdcont=1,"IP","epc.tmobile.com" into the extra initialisation commands
Dial

You sir are a genius. Running Windows 7 Pro 32bit and this worked great for me after Kies failed to allow tethering.

Not able to connect via Kies

I am not able to connect my Galaxy S2 via Kies.
It always throwing error
"Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies(PC Studio ) mode. Current connection mode not supported by Kies".
Are you guys able to connect?
Am I doing anything wrong?
Also I am not able to find download location for Kies(mini) for MAC. Its mentioned in Samsung website but no download location.
You have to disable the USB Debug option from your phone.
Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Untick the USB debugging option.
Hope it works fine for your.
Note: If you are trying to upgrade your phones firmware i'll definitely go to the Galaxy S II Android Development section and check the [ROM + Guide]Official i9100XWKDD/KE1/KE2 download for Odin Flash and Root Guide POST.
Regards,
Sebastian Moreno
Thanks , able to connect now.
not working for me
Hi I have the same problem. Debugging is off.
I also tried to connect with sd card removed but no luck.
Do you guys have any suggestion?
I read on internet but found no other tropubleshoot.
It seems there is a problem with MTP drivers not being installed.
I rebooted phone, computer.
I use Windows XP.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance!

Try to turn debugging on, and then turn it off. That helped me.

ADB doesn't see Galaxy 3

Hey, I have a little (big) problem.
ADB doesn't see my phone anymore.

PS: ADB works perfectly on my Desire, but not on Galaxy 3.

I think issue is with the drivers.
Check this http://android-simplicity.blogspot.com/2009/08/how-to-1-how-to-install-usb-driver-on.html
with some uninstalls and reinstalls with these looks like its working, thanks
Install one more time drivers on your PC. Maybe can help
It is not a driver problem it is Samsung problem!
Solution:
1. Unplug the USB cable
2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284#
Once the last # is hit, the PhoneUtil application is launched.
Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode.
The good mode should be PDA. Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA!!!
3. Plug the USB cable.
Had the same problem, after this works great!

Phone not getting recognized by PC

Hey all,
Of late, whenever I try connecting my GALAXY 3 to the PC using USB, nothing happens. USB-Debugging is off. And it's supposed to ask me everytime I connect. But lately, nothing happens when I connect it. It does charge though however. And I do get the "Device Connected" sound. But that's about it.
Anybody faced a similar problem? Anybody know the solution to it? Will a reflash of the ROM do the trick? I currently use Kyrillos' ROM

I checked with another PC as well, it's not getting detected. I'm on Windows 7 Professional.
i had also faced a similar problem.
SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME-go to settings -> privacy and do factory reset.
also go in recovery and there also select the third option wipe data factory reset...
after this the pc detected me...
hope this works for you..
dont forget to press the thanks button if it worked...
if you are using some 3rd party laucher........switch back to twlauncer (android launcher) and try.......
check whether you have phone drivers installed or not.....
if not install kies once...

How will I get my data back then?
Try this:
Make sure that the USB cable is not connected from phone to PC.
On the mobile, dial *#7284#
An app called 'PhoneUtil' will open up.
Under USB section, make sure that 'PDA' is selected. If its already selected, then select 'modem' and then again select 'PDA'.
Once done, press 'back' to exit the app
Now Plug the USB cable again. It should work now.
Seems a common enough problem, happened to me as well. The only way I fixed it was a factory reset (tried the phone util thing and it didn't work for me). To save your data I recommend you use a backup app such as my backup root. To do this you will need to root your phone which you can do easily with z4root which you can get here: tiny.cc/z4Root. It will only soft root your phone (temporary root only lasts till you turn your phone off) so it is easily reversable and no chance of brick.

PC&Odin not able to detect phone via USB after flashing custom ROM: tried dif pc too

PC&Odin not able to detect phone via USB after flashing custom ROM: tried dif pc too
Hi all,
I've recently flashed this awesome ROM: [GearCM][i9500][4.4.4] Optimized CyanogenMod 11 for Samsung Galaxy S4 [20140912] in my device. ROM works great, very stable, fast performance, however since install, I am not able to detect my phone via USB. Not even ODIN sees the device connected.
Was doing my research before posting, so I will let you know what I've tried which was recommended in other posts and google:
1. Re-installed Samsung USB Drivers: No Go
2. Used different USB Cables (using stock one that came w/ phone right now): No Go
3. Tried different USB Ports: No Go
4. Tried a different PC: No Go
5. Yes, I am testing with my screen unlocked
Anything else I can try? Maybe a setting in my Phone?
Thanks!
Odin should always see your phone in download mode. No rom will change that.
If Odin doesn't detect your phone in download mode then it's either a:
- Driver problem
- Cable/port problem
- Faulty usb port
By the way, the device charges normally when connected to my computer USB.

Good call. Odin is not detecting the phone in download mode-- so I guess we can eliminate problem in the device configuration.
I'm going to try again in another PC and different cables. Maybe my Cable went bad, sucks because it's pretty new? Going to copy Odin to a pen drive so I can try in friends computer. On other PCs I only tried connecting in Windows-- no download mode & odin.
Ok, so I was able to get working back.
I enabled developer options by going in about and clicking the build 7 times. Proceeded to go to Debugging options and selected Android Debugging marked. Reinstalled Drivers again, then it showed PC connected as Media Device on notifications. I clicked there and changed to Camera PTP and then back to MTP.
Now I'm able to see the Device again!
No idea why I was not able to see it in Odin while on download mode, however, I can see it now even when not download mode.
Thread can be closed, thanks!
