Hey all,
Of late, whenever I try connecting my GALAXY 3 to the PC using USB, nothing happens. USB-Debugging is off. And it's supposed to ask me everytime I connect. But lately, nothing happens when I connect it. It does charge though however. And I do get the "Device Connected" sound. But that's about it.
Anybody faced a similar problem? Anybody know the solution to it? Will a reflash of the ROM do the trick? I currently use Kyrillos' ROM

I checked with another PC as well, it's not getting detected. I'm on Windows 7 Professional.
i had also faced a similar problem.
SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME-go to settings -> privacy and do factory reset.
also go in recovery and there also select the third option wipe data factory reset...
after this the pc detected me...
hope this works for you..
dont forget to press the thanks button if it worked...
if you are using some 3rd party laucher........switch back to twlauncer (android launcher) and try.......
check whether you have phone drivers installed or not.....
if not install kies once...

How will I get my data back then?
Try this:
Make sure that the USB cable is not connected from phone to PC.
On the mobile, dial *#7284#
An app called 'PhoneUtil' will open up.
Under USB section, make sure that 'PDA' is selected. If its already selected, then select 'modem' and then again select 'PDA'.
Once done, press 'back' to exit the app
Now Plug the USB cable again. It should work now.
Seems a common enough problem, happened to me as well. The only way I fixed it was a factory reset (tried the phone util thing and it didn't work for me). To save your data I recommend you use a backup app such as my backup root. To do this you will need to root your phone which you can do easily with z4root which you can get here: tiny.cc/z4Root. It will only soft root your phone (temporary root only lasts till you turn your phone off) so it is easily reversable and no chance of brick.

Go to settings-->applications-->manahe applications and press the menu button. There u set the filter to show u all apps and search mtp application (cant remember if its named like that but it has mtp in its name) and clear its cache. Then connect again. Or easyer: of u dont wanna connect to keys just go on settings->applications->developing and check usb debuging

Hello,
I'm having problems connecting my phone to the computer with a USB.
The first problem is making the phone aware that it is connected to the computer. If I have the phone already on and connect it, it will start charging, but the notification bar won't tell me it's connected. To solve this, I found out that I have to turn the phone on while it's ALREADY connected. I think this could indicate some kind of problem. Doing this I'm able to tell the phone to mount the SD card.
But my second problem is that I can't get it to mount in my computer if I choose Mass Storage. I tried on 2 computers (Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows Seven), and it didn't work in neither of them. I tried turning USB debugging on, and it made no difference.
When I unplug the phone, it will still think it's connected, the only way to fix it is by restarting the phone.
If I insert the microSD directly in the computer (with an adapter) it works fine.
Has anyone had success mounting it on Linux? Finding a Windows solution wouldn't solve my problem, as I only use Linux.
Thank you!
When you click on Mass Storage, pull down the notification bar and click in Select/Click here to copy files to/from your computer and it will mount your SD Card and you will be able to copy files to and from SD Card
Do u have samsung drivers?

I'm having your first problem too. I Think this happend after I've rooted my phone, then I tryed to unroot, but doesn't worked. Any idea of how I can fix it? If the way to solve that is flashing I'll flash a Froyo rom, I haven't did it yet cause I'm waiting for the official Froyo from Samsung, but they're taking too much time to release it!
Thanks for any idea/solution.

Well, I fixed this problem on my Galaxy 3 with a Factory Recovery. But first I've made a backup to the SD Card, with MyBackup Root (need root), after that I turned the phone off, and turned on pressing VolUp + VolDown + Home + Power, to enter the Recovery mode, and then wiped the data (restored the factory config). Now the phone shows the connection menu when I plug it to the usb.

I guess doing a factory recovery would remove root, right? Did you root again and Mass Storage kept working?

Welty, if you decide going for flashing a new rom, let us know if it works. I'm leaving for vacations tomorrow, so I won't be able to try anything in the next 2 weeks, but if you make any progress, let us know
@iomartin
I was thinking that I was going to lose the root, but when the phone rebooted with the factory settings the root was there, I just needed to install the app to restore the backup.
About the flashing, I did it today, with the JPF (Froyo), and it's working fine, I'll test the battery duration to post my impressions about it. Froyo has a better keyboard and I'm not using Swype

*EDIT* Well, the battery is good. With my use (Wi-Fi for entire day, used to see TweetDeck and some web with Opera Mobile, few phone calls and some sms), it's good, just like Eclair, or a little worst, but nothing that compromises my phone usage. Let's see if the Samsung official Froyo for SG3 will be better. Hope this helped you in your decision about this upgrade. You're from Brazil too, and I thing Samsung will release Froyo soon, like GS5 already have it and SGS had the Beta Froyo released too.
Can you try the options described in the below thread?

After I installed MAGLDR113 I connected my phone to my computer and the telephone was stuck in boot mode and was never able to see USB connection. Now my computer does not recognize my phone anymore and I can’t flash a new Radio version since I have no connectivity to my computer. I tried several things but all was useless. Can anyone help me telling me how I can have a USB connection to my computer??
Thank you.
do you have tried to start and hold volume button... than connect to usb and simply install a stock rom (for example from your provider) - this must work... if not - you have bigger problem.

Answered so many times. turn your phone off then turn it on "while holding volume down.It will then take to bootloader(rainbow screen). It suppose to have a cotulla written above the rainbow screen. Now flash it with a stock rom came from HTC site..No need to sync your phone to your PC..Just flash it..Start all over again..Now you can search before doing somehing with your phone. If that didn't help you. You have a bigger problem..
Yes I tried this also but it doesn't work.
What didn't work? Can you boot into bootloader - ie switch off, press and hold vol down button and switch phone on.
You should then boot into a multi-coloured screen and should see "serial" at the bottom of the screen. Then connect device to usb port (preferably one at back of your pc and a different one that you haven't used before if possible) - let the drivers install if applicable - does "serial" change to "usb"?
Do wat d above posters have suggested then try different usb ports or even a different windows pc...For all we know, your usb cable might be faulty....Also did u perform HARDSPL before anything else?
I've started experiencing this very same thing. HD2 wont regognize usb connection while in bootloader screen. I get the usb connection sound but never says usb at bottom of screen like it used to. I've been trying android builds via sd but wanted to try my first flash but cant even instal MAGLDR cos it just fails at bootloader cos of no connection. Has been driving me wild for 3 days now.
try plugging the phone into a different USB port it should work then...
Tried that all day and it said couldn't install drivers, then just tried the same ports now and its worked. I think it was mobile device center had 2 set-ups for my phone, i deleted the older one and all seems fine now.
This is crazy, now i'm stuck on magldr and won't find usb.
I'm leaving nand now cos i'm close to smashing my phone to pieces, magldr usb flasher will not find the connection no matter what i try, so i'm staying with ****ty windows mobile. Not happy but i've been trying for days now.

I am experiencing this exact same problem. Bootloader wont recognize the USB stays in SERIAL. Tried different ports, cord is fine. What is the problem.
Before this, my HTC HD2 would just hard reset on its own ONCE A DAY! Why was it doing this?
Now it gets stuck on the white HTC loading screen. Wont get passed it. I used to be able to hard reset by doing the volume keys down and reset but NOPE... still wont load past that white screen.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you guys tried deleting the drivers using a utility like USBDeview? Try deleting anything that relates to HTC OR HD2, replug the phone in, re-install the drivers.

Of course it won't work without drivers. The computer needs drivers to communicate with the phone. In normal mode, unplug the phone, Google the application, download it, open it, click everything that has HTC or HD2 in it and click uninstall. Plug the phone in, let the drivers install themselves again. Try again.

Ok... i rebooted into Normal mode, downloaded the utility, did a search for "HTC" found nothing, did a search for "HD" found nothing. So i am now installing windows mobile center for windows 7 which should have the appropriate drivers.
Install Windows mobile device center 6.1, problem solved.

I'm able to view through USBDeview that my HD2 is connected, however I'm unable to view/open it.. I screwed up by naming the 'temp' folder to 'copy_to_sd_root'..
The instructions confused me. I figured this was the folder that needed to be copied to the sd root... however when i rebooted the phone, I was unable to access it. Any recommendations?
SOLVED
I was overlooking the USB Flash option.
If you are still having problems, let your phone turn on(no multi-color screen), select: USB Flash, click the DAF.exe installation file, follow the prompts.
You're done.
I had this problem and I solved it disabling an option in activesync. I can't remember what was exactly the checkbox, but was in "options" and it said something like "allow usb connections" or something like this.
I just disabled it and rebooted the device holding volume down.
Good luck!
Make Sure Phone is not connected to PC
Goto cotrol panel in windows
Uninstall HTC BMP USB Driver
Uninstall HTC Driver Installer
Uninstall HTC Sync
Unisntall Windows Mobile Device Center
Restart the PC
start the phone holding power and vol dn and now connect the phone to PC. should detect and install the drivers and you should be able to see USB on phone screen.
if this does not work
Delete all the USB root HUB but keep as last option in device manager.
PS: This will cause ALL the USB devices to redetect.
Let me know if this works

Try dl'g the Sammy drivers directly from here and just click on the "See all Downloads", click "Send" and save the .exe file.
Run it as administrator, and once complete, plug in phone and that should correct the pc to phone issue.

Already tried this. On multiple computers. It's not a driver problem it has to do with something that happen after flashing to the leaked kitkat. I flashed beans kitkat and firmware through odin and since then wasnt able to connect to computer via usb. I read somewhere you could flash back to mje but not sure if i could do that without odin. I covered all the basics including enabling developer mode etc.... Kies doesn't work either and that was suppose to be bullet proof. I vaguely remember something similar happening when we got Root de la Vega some people lost usb after flashing and couldn't odin back but cant find that thread with what they did to fix it.

Do you mean through hidden menu or should there be an app on the phone? I didn't disable it i tried to enable it through hidden menu because it wasn't working but it just resets after rebooting the phone. Also there use to be a menu in storage under settings i could get to but it no longer exists. If you go into settings- storage- it should be a button in the top right corner of your screen which leads you into settings for mtp but it's not there.

I too am having this issue... it is quite frustrating. I rooted using towel root and that worked fine up until the beginning of September then USB was gone gone gone!. I was thinking of just doing a factory-restore of my phone, but I am not sure that is possible with having Towel rooted my phone. I just don't know what steps to take. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
i am going to the local verizon store today and if they can not fix this, then i see no reason for me to continue to pay for my phone. there obviously is something wrong with all these phones that people are complaining about. i have been on the phone with verizon and samsung for HOURS. i now am a pro at knowing what's wrong but no one can help me. It does not stay in MTP mode or PTP and goes back to charging. this is a phone problem that should not even exsist. plug your phone in, upload pics. has anyone gotten verizon to replace the phone????that's my goal today
It takes two to tango; how do you know the problem is not the PC?
Older versions of stock software actually put the phone in Airplane Mode when you were using USB 3.0, and had an inactivity timer or something that would turn the USB link off after a while. That didn't happen if you were operating on a USB 2.0 link.
So, if your PC has any non-USB 3.0 ports (the connector will not be blue) you could try using a USB 2.0 port.
Sometimes intermittent behavior is caused by bad cabling or a damaged connector, so a second thing to try is using a replacement cable and/or alternate ports. (Don't buy bargain basement eBay $2 cables btw - you will get what you pay for)
good luck

Hey,
1. What version of Windows are you using?
2. Did you try connecting to different devices?
3. Did you try changing the USB Cable? Are you using the one provided with the phone?
4. Did you install the correct drivers?
5. In your dialer, type in *#*#2846579#*#* then select in Background>USB HiSuite, to see if anything happens.
1. Windows 7
2. Yes, on the same thing.
3. Yes, I tried 2 others

Also, are you using a stock or custom ROM? What version?
Try let Windows install the generic drivers and then see if it helps you to fix the issue.
a) Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, then Device Manager in the search box.*
b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
c) Look for the device under USB [Universal Serial bus] host controller, right click on it and select Uninstall.
d) Reboot the computer.
e) On reboot, Windows 7 should re-install the drivers automatically.
Stock B610
Still nothing..
Same thing happened to me once, but on custom ROM
You may try my solution and report if it works
For me the solution was an option in "developer options" called "select USB configuration" I had to manually select MTP..
IDK if the this option present in the stock ROM.
There is an option, but it also does not help ..
The other roms also do not work.

Bump.
Could it be that you dropped your phone and the port got some damage? Does you phone charge properly?
Also, if you install de ADB drivers and HiSuite, does the PC recognize the phone?
It puzzles me that you tried different cables, different PCs and different ROMs and the issue still persists so perhaps you have some hardware issues or incorrect drivers.
yes, it fell to me. yes, it loads properly.
