Hi. Thinking about CPU and the big screen, I think it will be very nice to have Ubuntu in Adam. What do you think?
Also I won't want to lose Eden. So I think we need something like HTC HD2 owners have. (They can start Ubuntu from the SD card like they opening a normal application as far as I saw) What do you think? Can it be possible for our Adam tablet too?
Anything is possible just put ur mind into it

It should be similar with HTC HD2. The good thing is, their project is open source

Please let me know when a good solution is found. I am keen to have it on my Adam.
That way, I don't need to worry about the warranty issue?
I would love to see this too. Really hope that some developer here can port the ubuntu to Adam. Please please please please
Why will you install Ubuntu on Adam? Is the new Maverick Meerkat fully mature on the touchscreen?
A lot of stuff needed here. I'll make a place holder in Development section with some necessary steps and such.
If anyone wants to make this happen though we need Eden Plus to be successful as full root and unlock will be required. Help out with that process first and then we can focus on Ubuntu.
if you install natty dont forget to pin libc6 to 2.12
Ubuntu port on Adam
Check this one if it helps...

Also, I saw some activity regarding Ubuntu port to Adam on NIH and tabletroms, some while ago.
Lets hope that this comes together eventually. I'd love to try it out on Adam
Hi, I too am waiting to see the development move ahead. It seems the attention is on Honeycomb these days.
$25 for the person recognized as having ported Ubuntu successfully on the Adam, either here or on TabletROMs.
kinda tired of android
I'm kinda tired of android. I just got an HP Veer and webOS is pretty nice. Only issues I have had so far is posting to message boards like what am doing right now. I got through it but had some trouble. Sorry off topic
I have loaded ubuntu onto my adam following the steps on the dev thread. I can't post there because I new here. Well I'm not new here I just don't post much. I've been reading posts for six months now but rules must be followed! Again off topic.
Ubuntu works. I have a question. I was trying to install a USB ethernet device and ran
Code:
modprobe --list
and came up with
Code:
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.32.9/modules.dep
I looked and only found a /lib/modules/2.6.32-1208-omap4 directory. I might have screwed up a symlink and I was hoping someone could let me know where the modules.dep file should link to.
Still waiting for tillum, rayman and paronnax to resume their work on ubuntu, especially now that nVIDIA have released the first alpha of Linux4Tegra 12, based on Natty.
I read this post by Tillum on the Ubuntu Methods development thread.
It is very disheartening to note that developers have lost interest, but that was inevitable given the low volumes and disappointment associated with the tablets. On the other hand, quite a few of us users are interested in getting a real operating system on the Adam.
I am sure that any successful port would be easily transferable to other Tegra 2 devices as well, and so efforts won't be wasted.
If we can help in any way, just let us know.
I have both input and questions.
First question, directed mostly to the devs who've started this and the average transformer owner's impression of what's going on:
What do you see the future of this tablet being? do you see it as very successful with a lot of roms, or do you see it as something that slides by with not much more dev than modified stock roms?
I will update this post with information for people interested in buying the Transformer and explicitly interested in development as soon as there is new information.
Another set of points:
I've seen people ask several questions in this forum, and i've congregated these ideas and some of my own.
CyanogenMod (with enhancements from the viewsonic Gslate)
Ubuntu
Multi-booting off SD or 16g main partition
Other roms from other tablets (as cool device-manufacturer software overlays come out)
AOSP for development (honeycomb of course, google has to release source )
KERNELS KERNELS KERNELS (i can see already that this is the strongpoint in XOOM development insofar)
I will update this list as necessary.
Thanks for reading. This thread will hopefully become a congregation of information for people who WANT TO BE DEVELOPERS and are considering BUYING THIS DEVICE. I want this Tablet to be as good as a platform as my G1 has been (it's still hoppin' in there ), and what i've seen spring up on devices like the Galaxy S line (2 of those devices here), and with the xoom already.
Thanks.
I will be responsible and be updating this thread. I may imitate RoyalKnight's Rom Bible in this thread (cf. G1 or MT3GS DEV)
I also have interest in becoming a Transformer Mod, let me know if that's available (of course i want to buy the thing first) lol.
Paul at MoDaCo has one. This is good. Also no offense to BadWolve1, I didn't know there was already a Mod for this section, i'll leave the above up for timesake.

I'll leave this in Dev, as it does contain Development info.

Today I found that the 3.2 code went "public".
How about using this code to make a port to the vega? Is it useful or not?
The link is here
its apparently only certain parts of the code that are aosp, might still be useful for helping iron bugs out of vegacomb but not going to see a full aosp rom anytime soon.
thats my fairly uninformed understanding anyway
*actually just had a quick look at the link and it doesnt even look useful at all, the equivalent code was released for 3.0 and 3.1 so this will not help at all with our vega
Damn! I had the hope that this could give us some light for the vega port
Let just keep on trusting on vegacomb and all the great job done there
I was chatting with dizgustipated about the 7.7 and I noted the lack of developers working on this model.
Yes it's new and to be expected but what are peoples thoughts, do you know of a good dev that may be interested ?
What about an agreement to find a good dev such as Diz to donate to for the purposes of obtaining a device for the dev.
Just wish Samsung would look at doing this themselves like the did for the S2.
I know a good dev who may be interested. The question is if the guys here are ready to donate? I know i am,

Well i would donate for a experianced and a known dev for example D.O.C from HyperDroid Androidmeda
They make impressive high quality roms for example SGSII HyperDroid Androidmeda !!!
The thing is they make only roms for own devices cause i asked it already:

After no reply to my PM to D.O.C i do a post for my request ^^
I am using the HyperDroid Androidmeda @SGSII since 6 month and its amazing.
Can you guys please do a ROM also for the Samsung Galaxy TAB 7.7 GT-P6800 ?

Maybe when the ICS comes out for this TAB in 2nd Quartal. Then it will 100% worth for it.
If you want i do a thread where the Samsung Galaxy TAB 7.7 coumunity can vote/write their requests to you and you will see how many people want that rom from you guys

So if we get for example 20 people who donate 25$ then D.O.C would prolly buy a P6800 and build us a high quality rom !!!
I would donate 50$ for him cause i know the quality from HyperDroid Androidmeda roms!!!
So guys what do you think about that ????
The OP of this thread should make a Vote pool with some devs then we can see how many people are interested to get a custom rom and want to donate few dollars.
If the result of the vote is positive then i would or someone other contact the dev to show him the requests and the people who want donate.
It seems we should start with the question what do we want actually?
I personally want pure ICS, built from source.
it definitely worth if someone can port/develop ICS rom atm(before samsung's "this year" release)
And what about p6810 users?
Enviado desde mi GT-I9100 usando Tapatalk
I would be interested and willing to donate to get a nice rom.
But it would only be worth it to me, if it was based on ICS. We already have a couple of HC roms available, but HC is what it is and you can't get much out of it. This beautiful tablet needs ICS. I'm not a dev but from what I heard, it should be easier now that the GS2 source is out.
The other important thing is that it should support both P6810 and P6800. This should be possible even if the dev only got the P6800. nitroglycerine33 did this with his rom by request and it only took him a few hours without owning the other device.
ready to donate 20/25$ for ICS AOSP on p6810

Well all of us want different things thats clear.
1st in one thing we all should be same "belief" >>> THE ROM BASEMENT <<< and thats >>> ICS <<<
2nd the dev must be a !!!RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER!!! if people donate!!!
3rd then people can for example suggest some RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER and we can start a "VOTE POOL"
4th the result of the vote will show us how many people are interested on wich RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER to make ROM
5th the RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER should be then contacted and asked "are he interested to make a rom for SGT 7.7?" + "what are the requirements?"(maybe nothing or maybe some donates to get the device at first!)
When these things are solved then we can say "DONE!"
Well i am pending as i sad between D.O.C(ICS HyperDroid Androidmeda) or CM9 Based Rom(from a RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER)
If not i will stay on my tweaked Stock Rom till some RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER join this SGT 7.7 Forum
--------------------------------------------------------------
+++UPDATE+++
If all people agree with that instruction and want start a VOTE POOL --> then i would start a THREAD: [POOL] RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER(ICS) ++++ SUGGESTIONS + VOTE ++++
Goals of the thread would be then:
1st gather all RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER(ICS) SUGGESTIONS with reference !!! (I do first example then how it should be look )
2nd start a "VOTE POOL" where all people can vote based on the references of the RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER
3rd get a result that shows us "We can look forward and contact the RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER!!" or "We can stop this ACTION!!"
SO PLEASE INFORM ME - CAUSE I AM SERIOUS WITH THIS !!!!
IF SOMEONE OTHER GOT BETTER IDEAS - THEN OFFER IT!!!

A RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER can implement "Miniapps" to a Custom ICS ROM!
You wont miss any apps in Google Play!
If i am wrong correct me ^^
There won't be any functional, "daily driver" ICS ROMs for the 7.7 until Samsung releases (or leaks) an update. Otherwise, you're going to have an incomplete device with non-working cameras and other patchy issues, regardless of how talented the developer is.

I don't know why you are using ALL CAPS, but the CAMERAS did not work on the ICS port of the Touchpad either. There was also a bunch of professionals working on that, with a github and everything.

POLL
I don't know how to create a poll in this forum ...
Someone could start a new poll asking for donation on this purpose??
For example, the poll question could be:
"are you available to donate money to buy a GT7.7 for an expert developer in order to get an AOSP/CM9 build for this tablet ??"
and the answer options could be:
- none
- 5$
- 10$
- 15$
- 20$
- 25$
then when we reach the right amount we could add an engagement post in the android development section or in SGSII or Note thread ...

I totally agree.
Must be ICS, HC is not good.
I used Diz as an example, his work is good but everyone has their own ideas on what is best.
Samsung is too hardware focused and scattered with their direction, they will never come out with timely updates or what we really want so this is the only way we will get a device that truly does what we want.
Hi,
I just thought it could be worth mentioning that there's a device request thread on Cyanogenmod forums for our beloved Idol 3 :
http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/111850-alcatel-onetouch-idol-3-55/
May I suggest that everyone who wants a Cyanogen rom to be ported on our phones should take a minute to register there and add their voices to the request ?
There's already 24 posts in this thread
Already demanded it
Cool
Just made a post, but later found out that posting a request for CM does not guarantee anything. In the sticky it states
Now, what does this mean to you? First off, requesting anywhere in the CM forum, the CM Blog, or the Facebook/Google+/Twitter accounts for device XX to be supported is probably a waste of your time and anybody who reads said request. CyanogenMod does not work on device requests as there is no guaranteeing that a current CM maintainer is even interested in the device. Additionally, its not as simple as 'porting' code, the device trees must be coded from scratch and made to work with the AOSP sourced code and CM enhancements. This takes a large amount of time and effort, especially when the device's OEM fails to release the latest version of Android for it. Second, in hoping a worthy developer sees the post and decides to take up the project... well, that is probably just wishful thinking. Many developers do not like interacting with end users (too much finger pointing between both devs and users or anger directed at the devs for something working other than how the user expects - it happens far too often); because of that, many developers don't frequent the forum (or if they do, they only view the forums for the devices they maintain).
The best way to get a device official support is not requesting it from the CM team, but learning how to do it yourself or encouraging a maintainer of an unofficial build to submit their code for review. Many developers will work on unofficial ports on the xda-developers forum, so that would be the first place to check out. If there isn't any work currently being done, you can attempt it yourself. There is a pretty in-depth article in the wiki explaining a lot of the steps of porting a device (as the bottom of the wiki states, nothing can cover every single process of porting, but it is a really great start).

So it would need to be someone willing to take the time out to buy an Idol 3, if one has not done so already, and then port the code for our device out of their free time. And considering the userbase for this phone does not seem all that large to be noticed, I'm not sure if CM will work on our phones anytime soon.
Well thank you very much for your posts and your research.
I'm afraid you're right, but we had to ask
Let's not lose hope too soon anyway, the fact that the device request thread exist seems to be a good point. I don't know if any device had received a CM port because of this thread, but... why not ?
I've red that Alcatel and cyanogen had been in contact for a tablet. The project has been cancelled but this might suggest they could have access to resources that would ease their work (pilots ?).
Original rom on the idol is pretty much stock Android, this is a good thing too (well I'm not a developer but I guess it's easier when it's close to the original).
And, like you said, even if the user base is not that large, chances that someone from cyanogen got seduced by the idol (like we did) are still possible... (this is the moment where everybody crosses their fingers ).
Anyway thanks again !
The thread has now 31 posts (ah no, 32 webgaffeur just added his voice !)
Thanks to all the people that took some time to post there, let's not give it up : it's time to flood the forum !
i had posted the github with source for the phone but no one seems to respond not even one single admin? we can ask other devs crdroid pacrom dirty unicorns paranoid etc.
Alas, I think Brian is right : it's probably a waste of time posting on the device request thread
I checked devices with a lot more posts and views than ours and... nothing from a dev (like huyawei and Asus zenforce 5).
Asking to other rom devs will probably be useless also. Our only hope is that a competent developer buy an idol and start working on it... If this happens, I'm pretty sure he will share his work on XDA.
Well, meanwhile we already have root, twrp and xposed working, so I guess the best thing to do is to customise out phones till it suits our needs and that's all.
Let's hope also that Alcatel will continue to push updates (marshmallow ?)
Anyway thanks for your efforts Gecko.
Sorry, didn't mean to rain on anyones parade. Just wanted to let everyone know what the stickied thread on the CM forum for device requests stated. I'm not saying it won't ever happen, just that it might take some time to get a valued reputable dev who owns, or wouldn't mind purchasing the Idol 3 and working on it for us. Most dev's accept donations of devices that want development on from the users, so if we were able to locate and contact a reputable dev, asking them if we were to provide them with the device, would they mind porting or creating a ROM for it. It's worth a try. Maybe start a bounty or fundraiser etc. I myself do not know of any dev's that would be willing to work on this device as the ones I do know of have only worked on Samsung devices.
I don't know any dev at all
P.S. : thread has 34 answers now !
