I really love how fast this thing operates. Have you guys tried the panorama mode, omg, it's friggin awesome. It automatically takes 8 pictures and tells you where to align them. You just rotate the camera! The whole thing processes almost instantly!
Yeah the panorama is cool but the resolution on it sucks. I like the frames in the audio postcard
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant using XDA App
I know its kind of silly (maybe even a bit sad) but I like the frames too...
I just tried the Panorama and I could say it's Fast easy and cool i just wish it can at least focus on each one to have more details
yeah, i do with it would let me pause so I can take a sharper shot. what I do is rotate really slow. That's how you want to do anyway ya know? Slooooowly.

Saw this thread and thought "MUST TRY!" and after trying it a few times I totally agree... I would be happy giving it a second for each part if it made it higher quality...
Hopefully they will have an update for that to be an option
I had the exact opposite reaction
I thought that the camera was a little slow taking pictures and extremely slow getting ready for the next photo. That's one thing that Apple's done very impressively on iPhone 4. But the panorama mode is pretty quick. So maybe this could be a software fix. Obviously, the first thing I did was turned review off. But it still takes almost 2 seconds to return control after taking a snap.
Hey guys, new here to Android and it millions of bells and whistles....
I have a question, the camera takes agreat pictures, provided that the camera and subject are perfectly still. Any type of movement and you are left with a blur.
I was wondering if this shutter speed is a hardware issue or software? If it's software, is there any patch or build that can be added to a temp rooted phone (VISIONary)?
Or a dumb question....is it a setting that I need to tweak???? right now it's all set to HD, superfine, yara yara yara....all the user settings are on max....
Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure if shutter speed is to blame at all. Seems like all the htc cameras frigging suck. I still have my old n97 and ill tell ya, its pics look way better than any htc android phone. I have an awesome point n shoot. But every now and then I have to use my phone, I don't walk around with my cybershot everywhere I go. I don't expect dslr like quality pics. But I think htc should read a page from nokias book.
I also hope there is a tweak for this. I love the G2 but my Vibrant was reigned supreme on everything picture related. Please let there be a fix, including even the samsung galaxy S camera app.

Wow really???? I tried the vibran, and the main reason I stayed away was because the camera sucked!!!1 and no Flash what gives????
The [email protected] IMHO is far superior taking pics than the vibrant, but neither trump the camera on my BB8900 with 3.2 MP. I over a thousand pics with that phone....some that have been enlarged to 8.5 x 11 and are hanging on my walls....I can't say that I see myself hanging anything taken with the G2...and that is very unfortunate!!!

Absolutely, the Vibrant camera and software is superior, the camera takes a picture immediately. The application is amazing with touch to focus and several quality presets (panorama sport burst, etc.) It does have a lack of flash which sucks but the night mode almost makes up for it. it feels like forever to take a picture with the G2. like OP said, if the subject of the picture moves within the shutter period, a big blur is the result.

dude I had a vibrant. Its camera takes much better pics than the g2. The vibrants video capture is much smoother and better detailed too. Its still not as good as my old n900 and n97.
I'd kill for a nokia branded android phone. I hope meego flops lol.
Also, I had a curve 8900 and a bold 9700. Worse cameras ever unless u were taking pics of documents. I can honestly say that those blackberrys pics were better than a g1 but no where near as nice as the vibrants.
My N1 took very crisp photos but even with little motion the G2 looks like crap there has to be a software fix for this

well now that u mention it, my n1 did take less blurry pics than my g2; but I think the g2's pics look a hair better as long as the subject doesn't move.
The day will come when nude chicks r jumping on a trampoline and I hope for the g2's sake that those pics wont come out blurry. Otherwise it may meet a blender lol
the G2 has the best camera i have used in a long time on a phone. i have had 6 phones this year alone and the G2 has the best camera out of all of them, and it has flash and a dedicated button on the side. vibrant was one of the phones i had in the past and the lack of flash and dedicated button really bugged me after a while. odds are once we get custom ROMs and CM6 there will be improvements on the camera including touch to focus(the only thing i liked about the vibrant)

Same with every phone I've ever had... if you move it the pictures suck.
what happens if you disable the autofocus?
This could improve the pictures.
So I just picked up the Nexus S 4g a few days ago and having not used the stock camera app I wasn't too sure what to expect. Well overall the camera quality has been underwhelming and I really think it's the lack of touch-to-focus to blame.
Is there a decent replacement for the stock camera app? I really miss the quality that the Epic camera had in comparison.
Other than that I do have to say this phone is pretty sweet. I'm loving how solid it feels in comparison. Much better build quality all around.
:O yea its not as pretty but honestly its a camera built into a phone. i really miss the dedicated button.
on a side note why are all the ACS users switching!?!!? ive seen like 50 acs banners over here >.>

vignette is pretty good; or if you switch over to a cyanogen rom you can use the volume rocker as a dedicated capture button. the camera app on MIUI roms are pretty good too; they have touch to focus if i'm not mistaken.
Camera360 also has touch to focus if you check the "touch screen to take photo"-option. It works on 9023.

I too was an avid ACS user with the Epic. I am constantly switching phones and this is the next best thing at Sprint and I wanted to try it out! I do miss all of the ACS stuff for the Epic, but my wife will most likely be keeping hers, so I'll still be in that forum too. I'm testing the Nexus waters here and hanging onto my Epic until I make a final decision which phone to keep.
Also, I didn't like the dedicated camera button on the Epic unless I was just using it to open the camera. Every time I pressed it to take a picture, it forced me to move the phone and get a blurry image...
camera take great pics
its the stock camera app that is the problem
try camera 360 have touch focus makes a huge difference
I've been running into the usual problems, at least, I think. The camera is so slow - I'm coming from a Galaxy S3, and I actually use that phone around the house as a camera because of how much clearer the pictures come out (regardless of the number of megapixels...). The volume on calls is low. And today, using the speakerphone, I hear complaints of an echo immediately.
I'm honestly considering switching to an iPhone - just because the camera and battery life seem on par with this phone, or at least better than what I'm used to with the S3.
Lower the resolution if its an issue.
It takes quite speedy pics at 8mp, just like your s3.
As for battery life, no the iPhone isn't on par.
I've turned the size down on Google's camera, it's frustrating that you can't do it on the stock camera. It doesn't really change the speed for me, too. The speed of focus on the S3 was much, much faster, and that's what resulted in better pictures. Not the size of the picture, or the amount of pixels taken in. Plenty of threads in this forum say the same thing.
Then take it back.
You don't need us to convince you otherwise.
I've taken great pics with this camera. I am not one to subject myself to phones I dont like for the sake of a camera either.
Always buy a device for what it can do, not what it might do in the future. It sounds like there is a device you rather have. You should get it.
You're right. Just trying to see if anyone has had any luck with updates, or any other camera app, before I make the switch. I bought it in the holiday return period timeline, so I technically have until January 15th. I'm not super ready to leave android, but it might end up happening after 6 years.
Is what it is as the saying goes. If an iPhone will make you happier that's what you who should get.
This will provide you with no help at all. But I'm going to toss in one, lol at the iPhone battery being on par with the droid turbo. If camera is your number one thing though, I would suggest the iPhone. No one will deny it takes the best pictures. And if anybody does, there foolish. You can't crop them lol but for a point-and-click nobody does it better
have u try to clean cache ?
I just picked up the phone last night. Im used to the camera automatically focusing. Am I missing something here.

It does focus automatically, and the nice thing about it is that you can actually pick the object you want it to focus on by moving the shutter. It just takes 1-3 seconds to actually focus properly.

Before you switch give this camera app a try. I've had better results with it. Lenovo Super Camera download version 3.6.7. @Demiurge7 has a good explanation of how the resolutions work here.
I'll try it out! Honestly, I really want to like this phone, but the camera is a huge dealbreaker for me. I really love so much else about it, but I'm coming from a phone that had a fantastic camera, even if the sensor isn't technically as high quality.
Because this is the best phone right now and with lollipop it will only get better.

Is there a way to make the double-twist open a different camera app? That would be awesomesauce.
If you want a better camera and want to stay on Android (seriously, iOS will drive you nuts), then you might consider the LG G3. The G3 has a fantastic camera with super fast laser focus and OIS. My wife has a 5s and the G3 definitely takes a better pics - especially indoors. The unlockable bootloader is a nice perk too. Debloated and Xposed, it runs flawlessly. My only gripe is the rear power and volume buttons.
Why is it so hard for google to fix the camera app and the camera quality issues that plague android? I was expecting them to fix it with the 5.1 update , but no luck, if you ask apple fans why they think the iphone is superior , the only thing they have going for them is camera quality. All I'm asking is that they reduce the time it takes to take a HDR+ picture , because without HDR+ the nexus 6 camera is kinda meh, implement an auto HDR+ mode, let us actually use burst mode, timelapse, that's pretty much it.... I don't want to install 3 different camera apps to get features that should be stock ...

Totally agree, nexus 6 is finally a google phone with a good sensor and lens, and they ruin it with a camera app stuck in 2012.
Things missing:
- 60 fps video
- auto HDR
- HDR Video
- burst mode
- slow motion
- manual settings for ISO and shutter speed
- touch focus & manual focus during videos
- stutter free zoom
- stereo sound recording
I hear you I'm not very pleased with the situation either. I did download a program just for burst mode (Perfectly Clear) something that was standard on my galaxy S3 2 + years ago. The focus hunting in video mode is infuriating also.
I also agree about the iPhone. I was looking through my friend's new iPhone 6 and was playing with apps and camera like lame, lame, lame, wow this camera app is nice and slow mo!
Sent from my Nexus 6
I want a quick picture may use the camera app.
I do not have the time or care enough about taking pictures to learn what half the terms mean.
Take a picture, capture a moment .... looks good enough to me.
Really if they had Auto HDR .... whatever that is I can not see me using it.
Just go with the defaults.
If anything I never go for the highest resolution do not want to fill my internal memory or cloud storage with pictures.
Now I read many threads where people that want to take professional looking pictures just buy a third party app, think Camera 2 was recommended.
The iPhone Camera app maybe better but with Android you are free to try other apps.
The problem is the 3rd party apps suck at doing it (HDR, Burst, etc) and some excel at one thing so you end up having 4 camera apps that don't do what the iPhone camera does pretty well in one app. It is not like you can't run other camera apps on your iPhone either!
Don't be an Android fanboi/apologist please. Good grief!
I don't think its being an android fanboy or apologist to say a person has a differing opinion than yours. I use HDR on my N6 ALL THE TIME.
Quality is fine for me. I'm not looking to become some great camera phone photographer. I just want to capture a quick moment. I've used quite a few camera apps and, in the end, I find it doesn't matter to me. It all looks good to me.
Point, shoot, upload... MAYBE stream through Chromecast for family. You prefer a better camera set of functions, others, including myself, think the camera is just fine because it fits what we do with our cameras.
It not like anyone is slinging mud at you and telling you to go get an iPhone.. Don't be that guy that throws mud because someone has a differing opinion than you.
So just to be clear... your opinion is the camera app is "good enough" and we all should be fine with that? Oh well then O.K. No reason to improve it then. What's next?
Edit: YOU HAVE A NOTE 4??? Get the f*** out of here you are not using Google camera!!! If I had a Note 4 I would not be complaining either! It arguably takes better pictures than the iPhone :good:

u do realize u can download the google camera from the play store right? Also its just a phone with a camera. you want quality pics buy a real camera. Gotta love the complainers over something very small. There is nothing wrong with the camera. Get real. Jeez
Auto HDR would also help people who don't want to spend time learning to take pictures.
I think we need an easy to use and fast camera app, which also adds options for those who want to get the best out of the camera. The new Lumia Camera 5 is doing this pretty good i think.
Title of thread: Will google ever fix the camera app
People agree it sucks. It runs from acceptable to horrendous. We are labeled complainers? Why is it so much to ask that Google has a "good" camera by default then if I want manual controls or other features I use another app?
Yes, if I want to take a lot of good pictures I will break out my DSLR but functionally my Galaxy S3 was better than what came in my Nexus 6.

Its very simple to them having a acceptable os running would be far more important than any apks. You cant sit there and tell me u rather have a good camera over the os. If so thats a stupid thought. A camera app can be fixed very easily by downloading another from the playstore. So again this small issue that people are having with the google camera is what it is A SMALL ISSUE.
Not quite sure i agree with all the people saying " you can just download another app " ?? you can't
Not if you want 120fps slow motion
or 60fps.

HTC, Samsung , Sony, OnePlus ( Oneplus btw has the same damn sensor so its 100% capable ) ... All of their Android devices offer :
60-fps
Slow motion
HDR in video
better autofocus while recording video
The list is actually pretty long from whats lacking on the Nexus camera app, sorry but if you can't see that , you're straight up blind, either physically or mentally
