Honeycomb 3.2 for SGS2? - Galaxy S II General

The SDK has been released, will we see this on the SGS2 soon?
If not by Samsung by the rom gurus?

Nope. It's for tablets only, and I doubt anyone can manage to port it to our device.

You mean "could be bothered" to port it. I'm sure that someone _could_, but an OS designed for a tablet on a 4.3" screen would be a bit average.
Wait for the Cyanogen guys to port IceCream Sandwich (Android 4.0?) if/when it turns up. By that time Samsung will have dropped the SGS2 like last weeks spam sandwich and will be pushing the SGS3 instead.
Of course, that won't be until around Christmas sometime I'd be guessing.

God dammit, this is about the 3rd topic on the same thing. SDK does not equal the whole os, google have only put out the source for the gpl bits and a lot of android is apache.
And a 3.0 port wouldn't make much sense on a 4.3inch screen
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App

this is the exact reason why Google hasn't made honeycomb open sourced.
Honeycomb is only meant for tablets. Until people learn to accept that it will remain closed. We've already seen android ruined by sub-par OEMs putting android on their **** hardware.

I hope not, honeycomb looks so messy at the moment

There really is no point putting honeycomb on a phone, the optimisations are mainly just for larger screens. If there is something nice in there it normally gets ripped out and cooked into a ROM or app anyway, its just a waste of time doing a full port IMHO.

Google needs to put the ****ing source out already. If they want to prevent crappy devices with honeycomb, this is the wrong way to do it.

What's the right way to do it? Because I can't imagine the flak Google will take once the crappy manufacturers get hold of the source code and devices with 128mb of RAM and 400mhz processor are running Honeycomb at glacier speed.
Suddenly people will be saying, "but I thought it was designed for tablets? Honeycomb sucks!"

I get your point but I'm not talking about quality manufacturers like Sammy. I'm talking about all the Chinese knock offs like the apad and those pos resistive things like the Disgo and the Next tab that are available in the UK and I'm sure elsewhere.
These things can't even run Froyo properly, what chance do they have of running Honeycomb?

I don't know if HTC will officially support Ice Cream for our Evo's. I just remember the issues that the devs ran into prior to the official release of GB. I hope I'm wrong because it would be great to have. I also wonder if our hardware even meets the system requirements.

If this (http://androidandme.com/2011/08/news/13-things-we-might-see-with-the-release-of-android-4-0-in-q4/) is correct, any phone running 2.3 should be able to handle ICS.

It's interesting at least that we may start getting hints as to what lies ahead for both Android phones and tablets. I'm sure the CM folks will end up porting, so we'll likely see it on the EVO 4G at some point.
Looks like it's mostly UI changes though. Wish they'd posted a screenie of the Gmail app changes; I love the app but the look of it is plain and ugly.
I honestly doubt the Evo will get ICS, we barely got GB, and its not like that OTA was welcomed with open arms.

I've had the font for a little bit now it's pretty nice, but all the apps are odexed and there isn't a means to deodex them yet, so we have to wait and see I believe.
Yeah, I saw that you posted, I installed soon after, very easy on the eyes. I'm excited for ICS even though we just got GB source. I'm thinking maybe Google's ICS framework is what's needed for that sexy contacts or as they say, "people app", but I want that on my epic.
Yeah, I'm trying to take images from the ICS keyboard and move them to the Gingerbread keyboard. I replaced all the files....and yet, it still shows Gingerbread images. D:
But the font makes it more enjoyable.

Don't know if that is what they meant by it should be capable on 2.3 devices. More that the hardware will be able to handle ICS if it could handle Gingerbread. This would not be the first time though that a phone runs a newer version of android with a modified older kernal.

Android 4.1 Jellybean in AOSP

Google developer Jean-Baptiste Queru, also known as JBQ, has announced on Google Groups that they are now releasing the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean source code to Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
Jean-Baptiste Queru said:
We're releasing Android 4.1 in AOSP today.
The name of the tagged release is android-4.1.1_r1.
The name of the development branch is jb-dev.
We recommend that you create new clients, even if you're working in
the master branch. It'll make your clients smaller and faster to sync.
Proprietary binaries are available for Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus. Nexus
S and Xoom will follow.

No, I am serious......without NVidia playing ball we have no true ICS. You said it yourself.....not fully functional! We have pseudo ICS with features that don't work properly, and sub optimal OS. This isn't a slam against any dev. Just stating what I believe is fact. We had the kernels, etc., before any ICS porting started. We lack what the devs require for a true ICS OS.
So you can say its ICS but its crippled. That's why I say like a themed GB.

-> Implying that a BMW engine is better than Ford.
Anyway I get what you meant, but it's not fair to say that it's a themed GB, especially not fair to the devs that have worked so hard to get a working version. The only things that aren't working (at least for me) are HW Libs, Camera is a little jerky, and Browser rotation on most browsers. I think that's pretty good and can only get better once we get a finished kernel.
