screen is white? battery is boiling hot? why - Galaxy S II General

phone is 1 week old was running beautiful until battery started to get a little hot. i was like ok nothing to be alarmed about put it in my pocket. does have a silicon case on it.
20 min late take it out and my screen has turned white. so i do all different things to reset it, take battery out for 30 min let it cool down and try again still white screen...
i have never dropped the phone or anything that may have made the lcd crash/loose its pixels.
i know the phone is working like normal as i swipe and went into the camera and volume up its just the screen/lcd WHITE?
so my question is what the hell is going on.
do i change the battery?
do i replace the lcd?
i cant re-set the phone cant see anything on it.
here is a video i found on youtube have the exact same screen and problem
search this in youtube "Galaxy S2 White screen" ..
thanks for any information you can provide.
and please dont say do i have warranty or take it to samsung.

Maybe it overheated the graphics chip, thereby damaging the video output.

it only got slightly warm, it wouldnt have got that hot at all to overheat.

Have you tried connected it to your PC and flashing either a different rom or reflashing the stock rom with ODIN?
That's the first thing I'd try.

Take to service centre dont mess with roms .

hardwarre problem on wing

so i think my wing may be in the process of biting the big one. A few days ago, my wing restarted itself for no reason, i figured it was probably a system error and didnt think twice about it. Now all of a sudden my wing will constantly restart, sometimes in the middle of a call. Sometimes when it does restart the screen will either turn white or fade to white. I reinstalled the original rom to see if it was a software issue and it is still doing it. Also, it doesnt normally do it when it is just sitting there, and sometimes i cant turn it back on. Any ideas?
Make sure the battery isn't loose inside the case... and that all the prongs are making contact.
For the life of me, i cant figure it out. I know it has to have something to do with the phone not getting power. At this point, it wont even fully turn on. Short of taking it apart and checking the solder, does anyone have any ideas?

If you already reflashed the original rom, and it is still doing it, that tells you it is definitely a hardware issue. It does sound like it's losing power which could be a host of things. (loose battery, defective battery, loose solder on board, etc) I would try what duprade said, and check to make sure your battery has a good connection first. If you had a friend that had a wing as well, you could try his to make sure it's not the battery.

Brand new battery (free from tmo to replace the dynapack) Everything on the mainboard looks like it is soldered well. There is an internal watch batter though, could that have something to do with it?

I doubt it. I would guess that's the cmos battery. If that were to go, then your phone wouldn't keep time, but that wouldn't stop your phone from functioning. (I used to work in the service center at a computer store).
maybe its the processor then. sometimes, after it freezes, it artifacts before shutting off

There is the possibility of you overclocking your phone, and it heated up and could have burned or cracked some solder. It might even be overheating and that's why it reboots. At any rate, it def. sounds like hardware though. Sorry man. You could try to resolder the connections on the board just to make sure, but it sounds like you have a paperweight. Is it under warranty or do you have insurance?
only ever oc'd once, for a few minutes, and not very high (like 267 i think) It's on right now on the power cable (this wouldnt work yesterday) I honestly have no fricken clue whats going on with it.
Is it possible for the battery to completely diminish itself without being used for a day? Before it died on me last, it had a full battery, now it is showing 1% (and charging).
By the way, as I stated above, it is a brand new battery sent to me by tmo.
Dang it all! Stupid thing just shut off again... ARG!!!

Hey dcmtnbkr. I seem to have the exact same problem with my Wing. It shuts off for no reason, and it does it absolutely randomly. Sometimes it would work for 3hrs straight no matter what i use it for. And other times it shuts off every 30sec. and it takes 3 to 10 tries to turn it back on(most of the times it would not get past the windows mobile welcome screen). I was gonna flash it with the newer Rom, but i'm afraid that the damn thing might shut off during flashing . So i'm stuck. If you find the way to fix it - please let me know.
actually, i just talked to tmo, and apparantly NOW after i told them I'm cancelling when my contract is up, now they can apparantly cover it under manufacturer warranty (as opposed to the last time i called about a week ago) I would call them even if you didnt buy it from them, tell them you dont remember where you bought it, but it was some company online. These phone's arent that old and you may still be under the manufacturers warranty. Also, i would try and flash it back to the original. These phones are very hard to brick, and i would ask around to see if a powerdown in the middle of an upgrade would do it. I just got mine to reflash without a problem.
my wing rstarts itself wen i jus tap the back of it where the battery cover is but it wont restart everytime. anyone have any ides?

[Q] bricked phone ... how I can solve it !

hi there all,
a friend of mine is having a problem with his phone. I tried to explain him how to install an android base sistem, he did, but he had a lot of frezes etc.
I put him to make a task29 and after that to install all from the scratch. First was the last radio version which stoped at 96% and stayed there for a long time. He did a reset by pulling the battery off and now the phone is not starting up at all. when you put the battery in it, after a few seconds is starting to vibrate continuously without stoping and it keep it like this maybe untill the battery will be fully drained.
he cannot enter in bootloader, it is not recognised when is pluged in the usb ... practicaly you cannot do anything ... or maybe there is a way and I don't know it.
so please give us some hints. thank you !
If you have flashed a .51 radio and you have a TMoUS HD2 well then the phone is smoke. The only way to fix it is by JTAG and that's a fairly complexed way.
we are talking about europe version not tmous and the radio version was 2.15.50.14 which is correct !
If you dont even get into the boot loader this phone is really f***ed up..
But are you talking about the tri color screen?
i have hd2 since it appeared and I flashed mine for more than 100 times and also my friends come to me to tweak their hd2's, but it seems that my friend did something wrong.
when I taln about bootloader I mean the tricolor screen.
the problem is that the phone screen is black and he cannot do anything, only that anoing continuous vibration !

OK, I think the only thing you could do know is go to your provider and pray for a replacement. Dunno if the change your phone if it is bricked.
Could try saying .. the phone locked up .. I took the battery out ..
and now this is happing .. Give it a try what can they say ?

Would do exactly this. I don't think they're going to strip down the whole phone into pieces just to see why it isn't working. It's an older model so I think they will be fair and give you a new one.
Yup go back to a store or call HTC.
Romania is part of the EU now so the 2 year warranty should be granted.
Check that the battery pins haven't been bent out of place. They can bend very easily and if the pins are not properly aligned the phone can constantly reboot, which may explain the constant vibrations.

He can also just call and say that the phone won't turn on he was charging it over night. And when he woke up to use it, The phone wouldn't turn on he tried the battery in a friend's hd2. It turned his on and you tried your battery in his but didn't work... they will send you a replacement for free Thats what i did 2 months ago when i cracked my screen. And before sending it in i flashed a .51 radio on purpose so it wouldn't turn on. I know it might be a bogus thing to do but i didnt have $130 at the time.

HD2 freezing alot

No matter what build, what OS I put on it, I cant do ANYTHING with out it freezing.
AND I MEAN ANYTHING....what ever i do, what ever app I start, 2-5 mins later the phone freezes.
what sucks ever further is no matter that WP7 ROM I install, it refuses to boot past "GO, GO, GO"
I've tried task 29, different radios, still no gold

To solve some heating you need to remove the SIM card. But whats a phone with no SIM right
The only way to fix it it to either doing it your self or send it to HTC and once you get it back, sell it.
I had the same problem, once I get it back ill sell it and buy an iPhone 4G. I love the HD2, but it freezes so much.
Call the repair service.
still doesnt work, its pretty much dead now, wont even boot into winmo sometimes and cant do anything on it anymore...atleast i dont have to worry about getting rickroll'd cause it usually freezes after 5-7 seconds on most YouTube vids

im having the same problem but it started after my HD2 fell on the ground facing the screen down.. after that my phone started freezin randomly and i have noticed that it get stuck when there is a little press from the back near battery pin and near SD card if i keep the phone without any press on above position it stays as long as it get pressed again is there anyone out there knw wht is happening to my phone
I have the same problem, what usually works for me is to pull out the battery and let it rest for around 2 minutes.
Then pop it back in and let it load the ROM. After the ROM loads.. wait at least 5 minutes before you do anything.. it usually holds on, but there's always the hang somewhere after wards
It is really frustrating.. any specific hardware fault, maybe I can fix it myself.

Damn. Better get it fixed.
Any idea how much it'll cost? Is it easy to change or will I have to give it for repairs? (no official HTC service store )

You can buy the board and do it yourself if hou want to. You just need a small hex head screw driver and to be very carful taking your phone apart. I can not remember tbe exact location of it but there are links to some leaked official HTC training videos on desassembling and reassembling the HD2 here on XDA, but the videos are on pocketnow.com. The board recuires no soldering abilities as it has the camera and screen have ribbons that just plug in.
i suggest checking the battery pins also, make sure they are straight and shiny!

yea im gonna send it in, turns out the main board is overheating and that mean its pretty much dead...if the back gets really hot and it freezes on you, chances are your hd2's not far from death
RE: disassembly video
here you go. in case you feel brave enough to do it. it's pretty easy. i just bought a new htc HD2 for $105 after i drop my samsung captivate...i bought it knowing the screen was faulty and use this video to help take it apart. afterwards the screen is more responsive now

I have the same problem and that is too irritating... Pins are straight and shiny
The only way to fix it is to uniformly bake the board at 210-220*C/430*F (but no more that 230*C/450*F or the PCB will start incinerate) for 20 minutes, (thermostat controlled oven (for toasts) or better infrared heater, NOT MICROWAVE!!!), this will reflow broken connections and solve most cases of freezing. Keep your eyes on temperature, open oven after 20 minutes and let it cool down, don't move anything until in cools to room temperature. Start heating from room temperature and slowly bring it to peak temperature during first 15 minutes and keep for last 5 minutes peak temperature (about 210-220*C).

Weird screen problems

So I gave my Galaxy S4 to my friend because i couldn`t hear the caller neither the caller could hear me and he said that he could help me.
He hasn`t done sh* and gave my phone back after 2 months and now the screen is doing some werid things, just after the "galaxy s4" logo the screen shows some lines or colored dots ,remainns black, the luminosity increses fast and then it reboots, almost everytime it shows something different.
It`s interesting because the screen works perfectly during the logo,in recovery menu, downloading mode and when i`m charging it.
What should i do?
P.s:sorry for my english
Dead GPU. Recovery doesn't utilize the GPU when performing its functions, which is why it works when on a regular boot you get a green screen. Fixing the problem is going to require a new motherboard. In your situation, I would be suspicious of the "friend" swapping motherboards or the entire device.
So i took it apart,i haven`t seen much inside,i took the motherboard out and put it back together and now the phone boot up and it seems to be working but for how long,it is second time when I kinda fix my phone myself because the service couldn`t do it.
Anyways, thank you for the reply.

same problem here, do you think that heat will fix the problem?
I don`t really know what to say, the problem came back after i charged it
I really think the phone is dead,I must change the motherboard,it might be the only solution.

My phone freezes :(

Hi, i have a SGH-I337M, with the AOSP 6.0.1 rom with root, since i can remember the phone had been pretty much hot, i didn't care much back then since i use it a lot but recently my phone started to freeze, like the screen freezes and i cant do anything, not even turn it off, so i have to take off the battery let it cool for 20 minutes and start it again, then it works about 10 or 20 minutes and then again it freezes i think it might be related to the heat. Also some few times my screen has turned green and then white and others few times i can see some sort of colored strings.
I'm pretty sure its hardware related but i don't know why it happens and if it can be repaired, do think ill have to change the whole motherboard?
Thanks in advance
Graphics chip may be the problem You shouldn't let your phone overheat like that I think it's the graphics chip (because of the color artifacts) You can try to reinstall ROM (clean installation) and flash another modem&bootloader, or even flash stock ROM. If that doesn't help then your graphics chip is damaged...There is 'repair', by changing motherboard, but it can be very expensive (if you don't find another S4 with broken screen or something else with working motherboard)
I already reinstalled the rom (clean install) and yupp, it doesn't work, the warmest place in my phone is between the sim card and the sd card, so i guess ill have to change my motherboard X_X
Anyway, thank you very much!

You should get CPUTemp Xposed module and stop letting your phone get hot! I usually stop screwing around with mine when the temp gets to like 50/60-something Celsius. And like GDReaper said, don't be a Negative Nancy, be a Positive Paulie and play around with other ROMs!!
my original phone screen did things like that after a pretty heavy drop onto a tiled floor. it maybe a good idea to have a technician diagnose your problem before forking out money for parts that might not fix anything.
Thank you all for your answers, i did tried to flash some other roms without success (I still have the same problem) i am afraid to continue playing with roms since my phone sometimes freeze in the middle of the android configurations when i reboot my phone just after the new installation and i don't want it to freeze in the middle of the installation of a rom.
I think ill go to a technician to see what can be done about it, ill keep you informed what was the problem
