hardwarre problem on wing - Wing, P4350 General

so i think my wing may be in the process of biting the big one. A few days ago, my wing restarted itself for no reason, i figured it was probably a system error and didnt think twice about it. Now all of a sudden my wing will constantly restart, sometimes in the middle of a call. Sometimes when it does restart the screen will either turn white or fade to white. I reinstalled the original rom to see if it was a software issue and it is still doing it. Also, it doesnt normally do it when it is just sitting there, and sometimes i cant turn it back on. Any ideas?

Make sure the battery isn't loose inside the case... and that all the prongs are making contact.

For the life of me, i cant figure it out. I know it has to have something to do with the phone not getting power. At this point, it wont even fully turn on. Short of taking it apart and checking the solder, does anyone have any ideas?

If you already reflashed the original rom, and it is still doing it, that tells you it is definitely a hardware issue. It does sound like it's losing power which could be a host of things. (loose battery, defective battery, loose solder on board, etc) I would try what duprade said, and check to make sure your battery has a good connection first. If you had a friend that had a wing as well, you could try his to make sure it's not the battery.

Brand new battery (free from tmo to replace the dynapack) Everything on the mainboard looks like it is soldered well. There is an internal watch batter though, could that have something to do with it?

I doubt it. I would guess that's the cmos battery. If that were to go, then your phone wouldn't keep time, but that wouldn't stop your phone from functioning. (I used to work in the service center at a computer store).

maybe its the processor then. sometimes, after it freezes, it artifacts before shutting off

There is the possibility of you overclocking your phone, and it heated up and could have burned or cracked some solder. It might even be overheating and that's why it reboots. At any rate, it def. sounds like hardware though. Sorry man. You could try to resolder the connections on the board just to make sure, but it sounds like you have a paperweight. Is it under warranty or do you have insurance?

only ever oc'd once, for a few minutes, and not very high (like 267 i think) It's on right now on the power cable (this wouldnt work yesterday) I honestly have no fricken clue whats going on with it.
Is it possible for the battery to completely diminish itself without being used for a day? Before it died on me last, it had a full battery, now it is showing 1% (and charging).
By the way, as I stated above, it is a brand new battery sent to me by tmo.

Dang it all! Stupid thing just shut off again... ARG!!!

Hey dcmtnbkr. I seem to have the exact same problem with my Wing. It shuts off for no reason, and it does it absolutely randomly. Sometimes it would work for 3hrs straight no matter what i use it for. And other times it shuts off every 30sec. and it takes 3 to 10 tries to turn it back on(most of the times it would not get past the windows mobile welcome screen). I was gonna flash it with the newer Rom, but i'm afraid that the damn thing might shut off during flashing . So i'm stuck. If you find the way to fix it - please let me know.

actually, i just talked to tmo, and apparantly NOW after i told them I'm cancelling when my contract is up, now they can apparantly cover it under manufacturer warranty (as opposed to the last time i called about a week ago) I would call them even if you didnt buy it from them, tell them you dont remember where you bought it, but it was some company online. These phone's arent that old and you may still be under the manufacturers warranty. Also, i would try and flash it back to the original. These phones are very hard to brick, and i would ask around to see if a powerdown in the middle of an upgrade would do it. I just got mine to reflash without a problem.

my wing rstarts itself wen i jus tap the back of it where the battery cover is but it wont restart everytime. anyone have any ides?

Something bricked my phone.

My phone, which I've had since waiting in line on March 24th quit on me today. I'm not sure if it was the culprit but, I installed a program called Lookout mobile security last night 5/6. When I started the phone this morning put it on the table, got some java and when I got back nothing..no buttons working...ok..no problem tried a soft reset...nothing..ok now starting to get worried. pluged into power source..boot up screen. whew..low battery. then blank, a few seconds..boot up screen AGAIN!..by now I'm in full freakout...Attempted to calm down.. didn't work..thought ok..most everything is backed up..lets do a hard reset..didn't WANT to but anyway! Did the hard reset .. Still had the same problem...Had to pinch myself HARD to make sure this wasn't a nightmare. Went to the TMobile store and the associate put me in touch with technical support (they were Super) Going to give me a new phone but, have to wait until next Friday to get it...and then tweaking and rebuilding it to what I want...I should have been ready for this coming from an iphone...All it takes is one $%@# program again, not saying it was the one mentioned above but, one with a malicious code or something that destroyed over five weeks of building a phone from scratch. Sorry about the rant... I still LOVE this phone. .
so you couldn't even boot it in to the bootloader? wow! Maybe you should flash HardSPL before trying to install that program again as there is far less chance of bricking it if you have HardSPL installed. Even if the rom gets completely stuffed, you can still boot it and reflash from SD.
All I can recommend is install a ROM via Micro SD card and maybe doing a Task 29 before you reinstall a ROM

For Leo: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
Or maybe try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668347
If those don't work then I don't know what else to recommend
They want my old phone back once I get the new one so, I'm going
to let them have it just as I turned it on yesterday. Let them
find out what the problem was created by.
I was about to install that "lookout" software...but after reading this I might as well hold on.
did you leave it on the charger overnight or did you just turn on your phone in the morning.
if you didnt have it charge all night, maybe all you needed to do was leave it on the charger a little longer before starting it back on.
i noticed that some phones with a dead battery and on the charger will sometimes not stay on until it has gotten a minimum charge on the battery.

Setting up the new phone shouldn't be a big deal if you did actually backup; just stick the old microSD in the new phone and run whatever backup app you had on the card.
I put it on the power supply and it is in the constant loop of
the first screen that appears. I am going to seriously look into
HardSPL. Thanks to all the good input from everybody.
Well now even customer service is at a loss. They cannot phantom why why two separate phones have the same problem. While I had CS on the phone we went thru various senario's to try to get the phone to operate properly. I even had them give me a new SIM card and that did not work...I suggested the problem might be the battery as it could have gone bad. You guys think the phone is playing hard to get--try to find a replacement battery! No stores within a 20 mile radius had one in stock....! Needless to say they are going to ship me yet another phone. plus a new battery and hopefully it will take care of the problem. The sales associate did a hard reset on both my old and the new phone without results so that unfortnately is not a viable solution. Now I am in the game I hate the most........The waiting one! ..

^^ what the op says above. This happened to me (and my gf as well) on our HD2s. The first time (mines) this happened, i hooked it up onto my car charger and immediately tried to turn it on.. it would go onto the TMO screen, but quickly shut down and loop. After realizing I may be trying to jump the step, I unhooked it from the charger, took the battery off, put it back on, hooked it back onto the charger and let it sit for about 10-20 minutes charging. Turned it back on and viola! It wasn't a brick.. I can almost guarantee this is your problem.
But I may be wrong lol...
So, now after 2 replacement phone sent to me, I find out that
it was the battery all along. Problem is that after the second phone
arrived and I had the same problem I called customer service and
explained it to them....They said a battery would be sent next day
air...Ok...called the next day and was told that the rep never sent
in the order...Long story short....I've almost been without my phone
for two weeks now and, all I need is a frelling battery.
Problem is there are NONE around me..I've tried every tm store in
the area, All radio shacks batteries plus...you name it....
I am being sent a battery UPS ground...could take 7 more days.
Just took the battery from my fiance's phone and it works
so, right now I would pay a ransom for a battery just to have my
phone back!
I had to do a hard reset after downloading that lookout trial.
at this point I don't know what caused it..Has anyone ever heard
of an application causing the battery to go bad?...I worked really
hard to keep the battery I had in good condition.. I hope UPS
delivers soon!
This is odd I have used Lookout Mobile on my phone since I had it. Mind you not had it for long, since April but still its never bricked or did anything that hindered the phone. I maybe another program.

[Q] Froyo puts my screen to sleep. . .?

I have been encountering a strange problem with every 2.2 flash I have done. After a random amount of time the sensitivity of the touch screen fades away until it becomes completely unresponsive. Then if I lock and unlock the phone it will work again for a while. It seems if I keep doing something on the screen it wont do it, but if I let it sit for a few seconds it happens. Sometimes it starts to act up right after the flash and other times it takes 10-12 hours.
I have had the exact same problem with DL30 and EB01 clean and stock versions. I have disabled and removed voodoo before any changes, I have wiped wiped and wiped again. I even did the D101 odin package then worked forward. I have let it sit unchanged for hours after the flash not letting it update anything same result. Launcher pro Tw, same result.
I guess I am fine with my wonderfully working DL09 Superclean but without getting past this I am at the end of my road for all the development goodies, and I want flash!
Anyone have any ideas??

Going to sound completely random, but are you using an aftermarket charger? Or is this not happening on dl09?

Stock charger and not happening on DL09. It does it really bad (2.2) whenever the charger is plugged in, I have heard this is a known issue. Perhaps somehow related to my problem?

I have actually noticed this issue a couple times also, completely annoying. And certain spots on the screen that will go unresponsive, but only certain spots, and if I lock/unlock, it will start working again, REALLY annoying when trying to send a text message.. and its always different parts of the screen.

Yes, I forgot to mention it happening in certain spots, then eventually the whole screen.
It "seems" to me that the touch screen is prematurely shutting down with the back light still on. Although, sometimes this happens right after I unlock it. Grrr frustrating!

How bad have you had it? bad enough to flash back to eclair or have you been dealing with it? It drove me nuts, I went back. I sure would like to figure it out though!
I believe it has something to do with the charger either being incompatible with the phones hardware or software. I bet the issue disappears the second you disconnect the charger too doesn't it? Mine was doing the same thing. I bought another charger directly from verizon at the store and it resolved my issues. I realized it after hearing a few complaints on the forum. I had an issue like this once before on my Samsung Moment...and it fried my phone.

First I have the charger that came with the phone so I don't think that is the problem. Second I do have the problem much worse when plugged it. But it still persists with it un plugged, to the point of it being un usable.

Yeah for me it ended up being the charger. Dunno, maybe something happened to your port or it got damp and fried something...but I'm telling you, exact same issue happened to me. I couldn't use my phone when it was plugged in. Haptic would go crazy and I couldn't text. Got used to unplugging it when I wanted to send a text. Then after about a week, the issue started happening to the phone after it was unplugged. Took it in and sprint voided my warranty on that one b/c they said I'd fried the port by using an unauthorized charger.

No, re-worded my phrase. It was for me. No idea how or what happend. To this day it bewilders me. It's possible that if the amount of voltage required to run can be tampared with, then who knows what else can be? People fail to understand that phones are no different from computers. You plug a buggy power supply into a main board and it's highly likely things will get fried or damaged. Especially if you start messing with the bios and try to overclock/underclock.
Most logical way I can explain it is by using cars as an example. Different grades of gas are not equal. If you're vehicle needs to run lean and you start filling her up with unleaded, you might get away with it for awhile...but after bit, your engines gonna start knocking.

No matter what build, what OS I put on it, I cant do ANYTHING with out it freezing.
AND I MEAN ANYTHING....what ever i do, what ever app I start, 2-5 mins later the phone freezes.
what sucks ever further is no matter that WP7 ROM I install, it refuses to boot past "GO, GO, GO"
I've tried task 29, different radios, still no gold

To solve some heating you need to remove the SIM card. But whats a phone with no SIM right
The only way to fix it it to either doing it your self or send it to HTC and once you get it back, sell it.
I had the same problem, once I get it back ill sell it and buy an iPhone 4G. I love the HD2, but it freezes so much.

I have the same problem, what usually works for me is to pull out the battery and let it rest for around 2 minutes.
Then pop it back in and let it load the ROM. After the ROM loads.. wait at least 5 minutes before you do anything.. it usually holds on, but there's always the hang somewhere after wards
It is really frustrating.. any specific hardware fault, maybe I can fix it myself.

You can buy the board and do it yourself if hou want to. You just need a small hex head screw driver and to be very carful taking your phone apart. I can not remember tbe exact location of it but there are links to some leaked official HTC training videos on desassembling and reassembling the HD2 here on XDA, but the videos are on pocketnow.com. The board recuires no soldering abilities as it has the camera and screen have ribbons that just plug in.
i suggest checking the battery pins also, make sure they are straight and shiny!

here you go. in case you feel brave enough to do it. it's pretty easy. i just bought a new htc HD2 for $105 after i drop my samsung captivate...i bought it knowing the screen was faulty and use this video to help take it apart. afterwards the screen is more responsive now

I have the same problem and that is too irritating... Pins are straight and shiny
The only way to fix it is to uniformly bake the board at 210-220*C/430*F (but no more that 230*C/450*F or the PCB will start incinerate) for 20 minutes, (thermostat controlled oven (for toasts) or better infrared heater, NOT MICROWAVE!!!), this will reflow broken connections and solve most cases of freezing. Keep your eyes on temperature, open oven after 20 minutes and let it cool down, don't move anything until in cools to room temperature. Start heating from room temperature and slowly bring it to peak temperature during first 15 minutes and keep for last 5 minutes peak temperature (about 210-220*C).
More detailed illustrated instructions: http://www.instructables.com/id/Toaster-Oven-Reflow-Soldering-BGA/step0

No charge, no sync - loose MHL cable port.

Only had mine 3 weeks and its broken already. I have been using a desktop charger and have not been forcing it in at all, not once, I have always been very gentle inserting it it, anyway it no longer charges, it looks like the connectors have pushed themselves back so they are not flush anymore and thus no longer connecting to charge or sync.
Not happy about this at all, I had my desktop charger for my HD2 for 18 months with no problems at all, this suggest a very weak connector.
!!! BE CAREFUL !!!
Going to call in at Phones4you and see if they will swap it, I don't hold out much hope though.

DO a factory reset using code *2767*3855#
(please not this will wipe everything including built in memory, so do backup before you proceed. Backup possible by moving content of internal memory to SD card by copy paste in file manager)
I had a problem when my phone stopped charging after I upgraded firmware, It would also launch Connected to computer screen when it wasnt . Thought its dead.
Did factory reset using this code and its working flawlessly ever since. Seems to be some kind of bug which happens out of nowhere as 2 people I know have experienced this after upgrading to KE2.

I was going to ask exactly the same thing...
I think the OP means that the micro usb receptacle has come away from the board and has been pushed back into the body of the phone. I hope this is not going to turn out to be a common problem as it's something that seemed plague to the Nokia N900 and it took ages for Nokia to acknowledge a design/production fault.
great advice, now it wont boot at all, just goes round in circles....
F**cked.....
anyone got any ideas?
Hi, the charger isnt really the issue, i haven't had any problems inserting the phone into the charger, ie no resistance which suggests to me it was week or loose and has gradually pushed it self back over the last 2 weeks since I have had the charger. If thats the case it would have done this with any charger or cable.
Just spoke to phones4you, they are going to exchange it for me, they didnt even grumble after I told them what happened which I thought was odd, heading off now to pick it up.
Will be interesting to see if your wifi is any better on the new phone stoolzo. Maybe you could let us know. Thanks.

issue happens like this:
u go to bed while charging
u wake up and the phoneis off or very hot with battery and temperature warning
u reboot and it doesnt reboot, doesn't boot, just goes in circle battery display/reboot cause it doesnt seem to charge neither have enough power to boot.
removing battery + cable then putting both back = it boots again and charge normally

Yeah, did all the usual things, I have bricked phones before and always managed to turn them around but we have no CMR to flash anything from ROOT/SD so when it wouldn't boot after a factory reset I knew I was in trouble
The MHL port being loose was the tell tale sign of a fault as I hadn't misused it at all. When I compared it to my new phone I got today it was defo a little further back, just enough to prevent it connecting.
Good old phones4you, fault report to phone exchange in under an hour, impressive.
Just in case the charger had anything to do with this I am going to get rid, dont think it did but I don't want to risk it.

Possibly bricked forever - Stuck at Sumsung logo endless reboot

Stupid thing is that I can do everything to it aside from getting it to boot all the way to work! I tried reflashing OEM roms and I tried custom roms. They all work just fine and it just won't boot all the way. I can turn it on and off, use format option, download mode and magldr. I keep my sim out and memory card. Before this all happened I always used OEM OS. Last thing I did was check my bank account, close the browser and click the power button to turn it into sleep mode. Few weeks ago I did have an issue with it for a day. It kept turning on and off constantly boot to random points. Mostly to the AT&T screen. It would boot all the way rarely and I got it to stay on a couple times for about 10 mins to copy all my stuff from it. Is it possibly something to do with the hardware being a POS and Just crapping out for no reason because cell phones are poorly made expensive bricks?
I've seen this issue across the forum several times. Unfortunately, just one case seemed to "return" to life, without understanding the reasons behind the "lapse".
What I can suggest you can do (and feel free to disagree) is get in touch with Cottula (creator of MAGLDR) and see if you can help you. You can send him the phone, maybe he can analyze it and get something out of it.
GL, mate, and if you find a solution, I'm sure other folks here would be glad to hear it.
Ahhh ok thats what I figured. I browsed a bit, but most of what I saw is people couldn't do anything. I didn't see anyone saying they could do as much as what I can do with it. I'll try your advice and see if maybe he could help. I took apart the phone to see if maybe someone came loose, though I saw nothing. Clean as a whistle. What I think maybe happen is it burnt up finally. I notice at times it would run extremely hot, mostly when I'm talking on it for more then an hour.
Well, for your sake I hope it's not burned out (hardware issue). I hope it has some software component that's screwed and that has a chance of being investigated and maybe fixed.
Also, the getting hot while talking/browsing for periods more than 30 min it's a known issue. It's however supposed to be quite warm, but not actually really hot, if you know what I mean. It it however possible that exposing the phone to higher temperatures to cause hardware issues.
In any case, I wish you good luck. Who knows?
I gave AT&T a call to see what they could do. The software warranty is 6 months past and she wasn't able to override anything that much passed over. Though I was able to get my 2 years wavered and get a early upgrade. So I got myself a Xperia Ion. I'm happy I don't have to put up with a flip phone for another 4 months. lol
I tried working on my focus a bit more playing with zune and other programs I found. Though I don't see it coming back to life trying all the different ROMs. I would think to make it work again is to re-flash the actual phone bios itself. Just like a computer starting it still uses DOS then loads the OS. I don't know how a phone works to much, but I'd assume same process. Something to do with the root-root of the phone telling it to be stupid and not boot properly.
Another note, where is the best place to sell this to get some money out of it? Screen and other pieces of its hardware are 100%. Should I try ebaying it?
I had a similar issue, last thing i did was removing the SD card before re-flashing the MGLDR and custom ROM
