(Q) root from 2.3 possible? - G2 and Desire Z General

So i just got notice that the 2.3 update is finally ready for download for my phone. I am currently on 1.8. I believe..
I read somewhere that there is no hope of rooting so far if you update to 2.3..
Is that true?
Via HTC Desire Z

You could always install RMK's or Hawst's leak. They're pre-rooted already.
I have Hawst's flashable leak and its brilliant!

I could..
So thats a no to getting the upgrade then i guess..
I would like to try out MIUI, but thats not happening if i upgrade right?
Atleast not yet
Via HTC Desire Z

at least as of now

HTC wildfire update after root

Hi All,
I have done some reading but I'm still unsure about this.
I have a HTC wildfire with 2.1 update1 firmware, still Vodafone branded. I rooted it some time ago but in all honestly have not seen any benefit bar being able to install a wireless hotspot app that I couldn't get to work.
I would like to update to the 2.2 version but I'm aware I cannot use a OTA update. What's the best way to go about installing 2.2 or is there a better cook out there that improves speed?
Thanks for any advice offered and sorry its such a silly question
check out Warriorvibhu's SUnAaBh v1.1
it is a very stable Froyo 2.2.1 build with Sense UI
Is there any way to unroot (change back to HTC default bootloader) and upgrade the offical update HTC 2.2?

not good idea. more than half of mine applications which required root now not working on my wildfire. That's why i'm waiting Hboot to be cracked by unrevoked. If i knew that i better use PuzzleRom custom 2.2.1 with root.

Will htc at least release 2.3 gingerbread for wildfire?

I am just curious will htc release 2.3 android for wildfire??? Anyone know???
Best regards

Unlikely. But, this has officially neither been confirmed nor denied. Someone sent a mail to HTC, and, got a standard automated reply "We will notify you if we are providing 2.3 for Wildfire... bla bla bla"
Anyhow, as I said previously, in my personal opinion, it is unlikely. More so now, because the Wildfire S is out.
Good point there... I mean it is kind of strange that we have custom roms for wildfire based on gingerbread that work quite fine, and then we dont have original rom with gingerbread... and then stupidest move of all is to lock bootloader and all that malarky that makes froyo unrootable...
Am I right or wrong???

It's to force people to ditch their Wildfire and get their new line of phones. Simple and cold business logic.
why the hell do u need official gingerbread on ur wildfire. the official froyo for wildfire updated the bootloader and implemented greater security on the bootloader, so that no one knows whether it will be rooted or not. 4months of work without any result.
i dont want official gingerbread on my device. and i dont want any further security on my bootloader. need someone to root my wildfire.
the answer to ur question is wildfire is not getting any official gingerbread. the 3 network in UK has already confirmed that.
the reason is simple. wildfire s is releasing this may, which decreases the htc support to the original wildfire.

Hero wasn't a budget device but the Wildfire is.
HTC Tattoo for an example is still on 1.6.
Also HTC UK said on facebook, "Because of the capabilities of the wildfire we think its best for now to keep the wildfire on 2.2"
Which makes no sense, Gingerbread is even faster.

Err.... I did update to 2.2 official without changing my HBOOT. How? I waited for the modified version without the HBOOT image
I`ll gladly do the same for 2.3 official.

great news dude. it means that even u can still root ur froyo wildfire now. ur patience benefitted u. to be patient is what i learn frm u.
and where is that modified version of official froyo update. can u give me a download link of it.
i think the modified version definately has an updated radio, updated recovery image, and other updated things leaving the HBOOT unupdated. do u face any problems with this issue.
i think the modified update is OTA UPDATE zip file. and in that ota zip file, we will see firmware.zip .
the firmware .zip contains boot.img and HBOOT file
i think u replaced the boot.img and HBOOT with an older version eclair RUU. am i correct
creators of the modified version, pls let me know how u did that.
edit:
oh, sorry i got it.
so, u first had a rooted phone and then u made update with ROOTED OFFICIAL UPDATE.ZIP

Gingerbread Sense would be slow on our device. HTC won't do such a stupid thing. They will force people the upgrade the phones.

No one has, because Gingerbread Sense does not boot on the Wildfire. Atleast yet.
Gingerbread is pretty light, It has the exact requirements of Froyo.
It will not run slow, there are custom roms that prove that.
HTC is just forcing you to buy a new phone.
I think I'll go Samsung next time.
From my expirence with samsung - DONT!! My tab has had no updates, is laggy (as all other galaxy s devices are) I would reccomend a higher end htc

I wouldn't. They are all shipping with locked bootloaders now - ala SE. So, if you wish to have stuff like Root and Custom ROM's, not good at all.

+1 on samsung. I myself am thinking of getting a Galaxy Ace. Rooted my friend's ace yesterday - it was so easy! Just psneuter (superoneclick) is enough - and you have full system r/w access. Trying to get CWM running on it now
Actually, a lot of the new SE phones are supposed to ship with unlockable bootloaders. As far as I know, anyway. Neo, Arc and Play, at least. These seem to be fairly high-end.
Just wondering whether they will back out soon like they did with PS3's OtherOS option.

That's why my tab Is stock. With the wildfire it was as simple as unrevoked and then hit install rom in clockworkmod whilst the Samsung devices you need to mess with odin and there are no rrus to go back to stock

[Q] question on 4g update(s)

Hey folks I have a question on the MT4g OTA update.
Have any of you gotten yours yet, or has it will it be released soon?
Any Devs working on a cooked stock update with sense 3.0 rom?
I'm trying to prepare for this update and want to stay with the stock rom for the MT4G OTA release with sense 3.0 and a nice kernal to go with it.
Please share your news with me on this, i'm kinda starting to feel the wear on flashing so many roms. I use currently RG 2.0, anything really new with the new 2.1?
Let me know thanks.

Have the been to the Dev section? Kinda hard to miss the Sense 3.0 ROM.
The upcoming OTA will not be Sense 3.0, but instead a "mySense" variant of Sense 2.1.
To be honest there has been no confirmation of gingerbread for the mt4g. the only indication we have is the leaked rom. So yes, it exists, and yes it will be released eventually, but it could be months from now. look at the Droid X - they've been running a leaked GB rom for months now.

Although no date has been announced, T-Mobile employees have had the OTA on their MT4G's for a month now. That's usually a pretty sure sign that an update is coming soon.

You want the official Gingerbread update that just came out for the Desire Z? You don't want the official OTA, you will lose root, and maybe not be able to get it back. You want a pre-rooted version. I think this is what you want:

Request: How to Update to Generic 2.3 from Custom ROM

I am guessing this might be coming from someone once it's released, but it's been a while since I played with my phone and I'm not that tech savy on the latest on these as things are constantly moving/changing.
I'm running a 2.2 Custom ROM and would like to upgrade to the stock generic 2.3 GB once it's released and I have no clue as to the best way to do this. So once it's out, if we can get a decent step by step how to, that would be great.
Thank you.
i would say use the flashtool thread in the dev section, flash a world generic rom and the corresponding baseband. don't root it or anything like that.
sign in, then connect to pc companion and see if the update hits.
Flash stock 2.1 firmware
update your x10 thru SE software
ensure your phone is rooted and xrecovery installed then wait for pre-rooted gb update to come out on here. It will be almost certainly simply bea case of flashing kernal and baseband using flashtool and custom update using xrecovery.
i certainly would not recommend flashing your phone back to stock 2.1 roms at this point in time - if you update to stock gingerbread then rooting may become more tricky and you may well have to go back to 2.1 rooted before you can get a rooted gingerbread - we simply dont know what security fixes will be included in the gingerbread update - so we dont know how easy it will be to root it once you have updated to stock 2.3
step 1. wait for the rom to launch
step 2. go to the gingerbread thread and read!!
step 3. read before posting the same question that's been asked thousands of times already!!
Do you guys know 2.3 update is out?

I'm going for this route as well, wait for a flashtools rootable 2.3. But i don't think it will take much long, the x10 gingerbread rom is based on the one SE worked for the Arc and that was rooted pretty quickly, no?
For those still with stock 2.1 i can understand all the excitement, but for me, i've been using a custom rom with basically the same UI and features for a while, I can wait a little longer.
They were only able to root arc/play/neo 2.3.2 they are still working on a way to root 2.3.3 so far no luck.

If you are referring to using an easy one-click method to root, then yes you are correct.
But there are other ways to achieve root on 2.3.3 which involves flashing.

Yeah, I was reading the post 2 above this one swearing & shaking my fists, because I'm running j's 2.3.3 rooted rom right now....2.3.3 can be rooted, it's just gonna be a little while before it's a one-click. That's always how it goes
Now that arc, neo, play & x10 are all gonna be 2.3.3, maybe it'll get the ball rolling a little faster on one-click solutions. We do have the largest Xperia dev community in the X10 section, afterall
We can simply "repair" the phone with SEUS. SEUS will download the last version for your device and install it automatically.

maybe, but only with an unrooted, unbranded generic 2.1 rom SE says to use PCC, which means it will most likely be available for SEUS, too (IIRC, they use the exact same database for the rom updates)
Good info so far. I might sell my phone (or lend it to a friend) and it would obviously sell best with an OEM 2.3 unlocked ROM which is assumingly bug-free for the most part.
So SEUS looks at what is currently on the phone and repairs it to that?

SEUS does the same thing PCC does, but it actually works every time like it should
It reflashes your firmware....and it's saved my ass many, many times If it weren't for SEUS I'd have a bricked phone at least a dozen times over lulz
