[Q] Just a little help from my friends - HD2 General

Just got an HD2,coming from my Hermes.
It's like going from a 19" monitor to a 32" monitor
Not new to flashing as I've been doing it for years on my Hermes, radios and roms.
New to the HD2 obviously so I need to get some things clear before I proceed.
Flashed HSPL 2.08 already.
I believe I need this version so that I can run android and win7?
Flashed my 1st rom,an energy one.
All is well except I'm not really keen on win 6.5 anymore.
Although most of my cabs work which is great
I want to try win7 and android.
Android
3 versions?
nand=runs from the phone?
magldr=?
SD=runs from the SD card?
Win7
Not quite sure as I've not read that far yet
Is flashing win7 same as flashing a win6.5 or do I need to do something extra?
Dual boot is working with HD2 or not?
Gen.Y DualBOOT v1.0.6.0 says no in the initial post.....
"Just to clear up the most asked question in this thread, this app will NOT work with the HTC HD2, because there is no android distro available yet for that platform (SnapDragon)"
....but that was over a year ago.
Anything else I need to know?

Your right on it all, magldr you install from the tri colour screen, its where Android is installed from on the nand, then you will need clock work mod, this is basically Android recovery, you can create back ups of your roms and also install Android roms directly from SD,
Win 6.5 is the past
I've not really done much with win7 Android is the way forward,
Gingerbread is the latest version of Android.
Look for clk versions in the Android nand thread
Clk = clockwork
Probably get started with
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769026
I've been on Android for a while now, the last time I dual booted I ran Win 6.5 from nand then I loaded android from SD
I'm using miui its a total re write and everything is themeable but is get used to Android first
Anything else

Thanks for all them
Not too sure how to 'flash' to an android?
or to load the cLK?
they come as disk image files (.img)

They come as .zip files.
Find the clk thread and learn how to install it, then you simply put the. Zip file on your SD and load clk then install Android from the zip

Ok
I'm going to use the Hd2 toolkit, this also cLK's my device.
Why does it need to partition my device and what's a good size?
I seem to have ran into some bother with fastboot command when doing cLK for dummies.
I'm getting.......
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

It partitions some of your SD to ext4 to make more internal memory for apps
I was about to write you a walk-through but I've stole this instead follow it step by step

placed the fastboot.exe and AdbWinApi.dll in the folder and it just sits there saying 'waiting for device'.

When you boot your hd2 into magldr then you scroll to "usb flasher" whilst usb is connected to pc? What happens, does windows recognise the device? Does it install drivers?

tried putting the rom onto the sd card with usb mass storage which went ok.
fails to flash when using boot AD Sd
load zimage

it's a zip file?

Ok found another post that explains things a bit better, let's see what happens.......

The daf thing is old, now almost 99% of the ROMs use ClockworkMod. When you're on MAGLDR screen, using the volume rockers, go to USB flasher and select it by pressing the call button. Run the Android Toolkit and choose MAGLDR repartion, and select 150mb partition size from the left panel then click "Repartition" . After it finishs, go to magldr and choose "Android Recovery" or something similar, it will get you in an orange texted screen (CWM) . put the file you downloaded on your sd card and choose flash zip file, then choose it and let it do its thing .

Can I install MAGLDR through SD card?

Similar to running Leoimg.nbh through boot screen...is it possible or does it require a pc?
Hi,
I have the same question since I broke my USB on the phone. (This is not covered by the warrenty)
I also like to know if it is posible if I can update HSPL.
Radio is posible and Rom by clockworks too.
Basicly I also like to know how the ROM organisation is and what is where in the rom and how the boot order is in the device.
Thanks.
anyone?

No - you need a USB connection to a PC.
USB Port Damaged
Hi,
I would really like to install magldr but my USB port is damaged. Does anybody know if anybody is developing a version of magldr that can be installed from the SD card. I already have hspl 2.08.
Thanks in Advance!

I have not heard of anyone working on a way to to do this and franckly I don't beleive it will ever be possible. The reason I say this is bootloader only recognizes the file name loeimg.nbh when it searches for a ROM on the SD card. This type of file the .nbh is a file extension spacific for HTC devices runnin Windows Mobile and Andriod. the .nbh is a HTC Hermes ROM image wich is a ROM update utility. So you see it is spacificaly for used with ROMs and MAGLDR is a different type of bootloader not a ROM. There for the regular bootloader will not allow it to be flashed cause it does not meet predifined specifications for bootloader to flash it even if you added the .nbh extension to it. You would have to modifiy the original bootloader to achive this and I don't think you can modifiy it in this manner. You can not even come up with a seperate bootloader for it as any other bootloader has to run in sequence after the original bootloader just like MAGLDR does. So I very highly doubt that flashing MAGLDR will ever be possible, sorry friends.
I am also looking for a solution
My USB post is damaged by a high voltage from my car charger..
Ok guys I may have been completely wrong with my last post. I just yesterday flashed MAGLDR to my HD2 for the first time just to gain some hands on experience with it. I noticed yesteday that when you flash MAGLDR it uses a ROM update utility to flash it to the HD2. I also noticed that when you extract the files for MAGLDR this is this is what you get.
DAF
DAF
EnterBootloader
ErrorBattery.fig
ErrorUSB.fig
magldr.nbh
modelID.fig
rapitool
ROMUpdateUtility.cfg
ROMUpdateUtility
RUUGetInfo
RUUResource.dll
Notice the magldr.nbh file? This is the file the ROM update utility flashes when you flash MAGLDR. It also removes the current ROM on your HD2 when you flash MAGLDR. So knowing what I know about flashing a ROM or Radio from SD card, and now knowing this information on MAGLDR. I think it might be possible to flash MAGLDR via SD card. I mean it seems to me all you would have to do is rename the magldr.nbh file to leoimg.nbh. Then copy it to the root of your SD card and flash it like a ROM or radio from SD card. I have not personally tried it yet cause I have not had time to back up my wife's SD card and reformat it yet. I have to use hers because she has a 2GB card and I have the 16GB. But if anyone else would like to test my theory feel free, but I hold no responsability if you decide to try this and it goes bad.
Ok, I did find out you can install magldr by updating through SD like T-Macgnolia mentioned, CWM you can just put in the root of the SD and then works correct. The next problem I have is the partitioning CWM uses. Everywhere I looked I only see that the partitioning is done by USB flashing, Is there a posabilety to partitioning different?

Hi
OrsoNerOne
thanks for the tip!
So is cwm magldr a special version of magldr?
I tried renaming version 1.3 and renaming to leoimg.nbh but it gets stuck on grey screen displaying -loading......
Should partition my sd first? Do I use any partitioning software, if so?
Thanks t-magnolia for the possibility of doing this!

No CWM is a recovery program much like native.Android devices have. It allows you to flash a Android ROM with the. zip file on your SD card just like a native Android device it also allows you to flash updates via your SD card and make a Nand Droid back up of your Android before flashingva update or new ROM and then use that back up to restore your settings apps and all once you have flashed the update or ROM. You can also use it to do a system recovery (this is like a hard reset for Win No) of your Android ROM if the need arises.
MAGLDR is a custom bootloader that allows you to flash Android or WP7 to a HTC HD2. Just as the bootloader for Win Mo starts up and allows Win Mo to boot, note you do not see the bootloader like you do MAGLDR but trust me bootloader runs first on boot up of Win No. MAGLDR also allows you to do a system recovery but CWM does it more like a native Android device would. MAGLDR is a very powerful and functional bootloader that can do way more than the Win Mo bootloader, but it just can not boot Win Mo yet lol kinda funny isn't it. Anyway read the CWM and MAGLDR threads they will teach you alot. Check my sig for links to both.
One more thing MAGLDR and CWM allows you to have access to your SD card as a mass storage device. MAGLDR has a Mass Storage option and CWM has a mount SD option. Oh and by the way you do not want to partition your SD card. You want it freshly formatted with fat 32 if at all possible, of course make a back up of hour intuit SD card before formatting it.
Thanks for the thanks but I did not make flashing MAGLDR and CWM via SD card. This was done by the rest devs that created these programs. I just happen to notice that it is posinle because the used .nbh files for both of them. Now this was either out of necesiety or out of some good pre planning of the devs. But the .nbh file is a file specific to HTC devices so you all desire Wichita one it was lol.

Hello t-magnolia,
So my .situation is that I have hsol 2.08 and my usb port won't work at all. I don't have magldr installed and am still booting android via winmo.
So if I want to install a nand based rom, what should the steps be please?
I have tried renaming magldr.nbh to leoimg.nbh and put it in the root of my sd. However, it goes.into a grey screen and displays 'loading.........' In blue text and just hangs.

Your problem is either you need to reformat your SD card with Fat 32 or you are using to large GB SD card. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but even if you get MAGLDR on your HD2 you still will npot be able to Flash a NAND Android ROM with out a working USB. Yes you can flash a NAND Android ROM via SD card using Clock Work Mod Recovery(CWM) but you still have to have a functioning USB port to flash CWM to your HD2. Sorry my friend but you will have to get your change your mainboard to get a working USB port befor you can go NAND Android with your HD2.
Haven't read the whole thread but once you've flashed MAGLDR it would be useless as you need a USB connection to flash CWM or a ROM.

you can do it with a tool:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
1)first get the recommended radio:2.15.50.14
2)download and install the nand tool kit
3)be sure you have hspl 2.08
4) go to bootloader screen(tri-color screen)
5)connect phone to pc ,see 'usb' at bottom
6)in toolkit click task29
7)go to bootloader again
8)in toolkit at bottom click browse and find your radio(2.15.50.14) click install ruu
9)go bootloader again
10)click install mgldr
11)in toolkit at left choose 150 and write 5 instead of 45
12)in mgldr menu go to usb flasher. be sure you see usb flasher....usb. if not change usb port etc.
13)in toolkit click repartition. be sure at left top mgldr repartition is chosen.
14) this operation will wipe your sd !!!when it finishes,in mgldr go ad recovery-advanced-partition sd card-1024-0 (so you'll have 1 gb sd-ext partition)
15) in mgldr-ad recovery-mounts and storage-mount usb storage-when pc sees phone send your downloaded rom.zip to sd
16)in mgldr: ad recovery-install zip from sd-choose zip from sd-find your rom.zip and choose it with call button.
17)after installation is complete reboot

When I first did a ROM change I was having a heart attack as didn't want to brick the phone.
Thanks for the instructions but if I am honest, I don't I could go through with that. Do you know of where I can download ROMs that come with RUU files? Like the Custom ROMs from HTC site?
If you flashed a ROM before, you are familiar with mgldr. If you flash mgldr there are only a few steps to flash a cwm ROM. Dont be so afraid. The possibility of breaking of phone is very low.
For ruu roms you should look at older ROM threads.

Yes that's what I meant. Is it easier?
Of course it is easier. It needs no extra operation such as hspl task 29 etc. But sense roms are slower with sd method. I recommend americandroid or miui roms. Go to sd thread, download americandroid unrar it. Find Android folder in it. Put Android folder to sd card. In winmo with file explorer go to the folder. First click ctrl, then click haret. Flashing may take up to 30 minutes.

if you have an eu-hd2 the phone's internal storage isn't enough, so sd-ext partition is a kind of trick to increase internal storage. this is a partition that is seen by android but not by windows.
you can google youtube for videos about flashing mgldr 1.13. but at my first time i mostly used written sources in xda (i think i referred links of mskip's tutorials)

if you have an eu-hd2 the phone's internal storage isn't enough, so sd-ext partition is a kind of trick to increase internal storage. this is a partition that is seen by android but not by windows.
you can google youtube for videos about flashing mgldr 1.13. but at my first time i mostly used written sources in xda (i think i referred links of mskip's tutorials)

Rom Issues Please Help

Hi,
I am trying to install this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326217
I recently bought a new sd card from 1 gb to 16 gb as I like Sense roms.
My procedure is as follows:
step1) task 29:
turn off phone
turn on holding volume down-so you'll go to bootloader screen
be sure you see 'usb' in screen (not 'serial')
in nand toolkit click task29 and choose proper options in each screen.
step2) flashing radio:
in phone go to bootloader screen again
in nand toolkit at bottom click browse an find your radio.nbh in pc then click install RUU(when it comes to 96% it will wait for a while its normal)
step3) flashing mgldr:
in phone go to bootloader screen
in toolkit click install mgldr(at bottom)
4) now in mgldr go to usb flasher.be sure you see usb flasher.....usb in screen
in nand toolkit choose mgldr repartition (at left top)
choose 400mb partition size(at left)
write 4 instead of 45 as cache size
click repartition at right bottom.so you'll have repartitioned your nand.
5) mgldr menu go to ad recovery-advanced-partition sd card-1024-0
(so you'll have an sd-ext partition of 1gb which is necessary for this and many other roms)
then in mgldr menu (you can go to this menu by rebooting or pulling out battery) go ad recovery-mounts and storage-mount usb storage-when pc sees phone, send rom to phone
6) mgldr menu-ad recovery-install zip from sd-choose zip from sd-find your rom and choose with call button-after installation is complete reboot phone-after approximately 20 minutes the phone will be ready.

After doing all that, I get a message saying " kernal missing" or something along those lines.
Is the above procedure correct ?
Why dont you try all of your steps mentioned except 2 & 5?? A new radio does not need to be flashed every time. Also the systemshouldcreate its own partion upon boot.

Wait step 5 is wrong. Mass storage within magldr is glitched. You need to use a card writer to put your rom onto your sd card. Sorry i didn'tcatch that at first. Also you still should not have to flash a new radio everytime.

Its something about transferring data, I'm not certain exactly what. I would assume the file isn't transferred right over magldr interface and somehow parts of the rom become not right for lack of better terms. I read once to not transfer files using magldr because 1.13 is glitched. I'm not 100% sure what it is. Just try a card reader and see if that helps. Unless your dual booting I prefer clk .

What exactly does it do turning on? Kernal missing .. does it boot loop, freeze or restart?

Step 5.5 ... in cwm - mounts and storage (or something) - mount SD card - copy over your rom.
This will show your SD on the PC, and unlike the magldr USB storage the cwm one works. No card reader necessary.

I normally just mount and copy it over and that copies it over.
But the problem is after flashing, when magldr starts I get a message in the lines of "Kernel missing" and it stops.
Does my steps differ to anything you would suggest?

Just follow your steps minus the radio flashing as you only have to do this once (which I'm sure you have already done since you have been using custom roms). Then instead of using MAGLDR to transfer the rom, boot into CWR first and then using mounts and storage, transfer it there. It sounds like MAGLDR is corrupting the file transfer (as it usually does).
Just start over with task29 then skip the radio flashing and adjust your steps to transferring the rom over through CWR.

If you mounted sd card in CWM do not press back button!
Sd is still mounted...so press call button or restart your phone, boot into CWM and try again to flash your rom.

corrupted download? interrupted transfer? always try copying across / downloading it again before you do anything else.

its a nand build so not sure it would cope with simply unpacking onto the sd card, i 'think' (i dont know, no clue about teh technicals) you have to alter something in teh init, but thats why i expect it isnt loading.

let me know if you still want to install nand android...i can guide you..and possibly fight with you till u install it successfully
I have written a guide that makes it super easy to install. If you still have problems just post in my thread or pm me

It looks like a bad download.
But at first, check if your HSPL has version 2.08, and flash it, if it is other version.
Then check Radio version (2.15.50.14) and flash it, if it is other verion.
Do task29 and install afterwards magldr and recovery with right size for your rom.
Partiion you SD-Card like it should and wipe all you find (partition will delete all your data on sd-card).
Copy downloadet zip to sd card and install it.
These are only basic steps. More details you find here:

[Q] bricked phone? cLK screen only with messages?

Hi,
I am not very experienced with android installation and after trying few times now the phone is maybe bricked?
I only have cLK black screen with some lines of text (such as MsDOS prompt).
How can I fix it?
I would like to install either Windows 7 or Android 4.04.
Which one is better/faster?
But first I need to fix the phone if possible?

The screen you see with the text is just clk it self. Because you do not have a ROM for clk to boot you are seeing this screen. Click on the HD2 guid in my link and it will walk you through how to instll Clockwork Mod Recovery so you can flash a ROM. Or ypou can use the HD2 NAND Toolkit to flash Clockwork Mod Recovery. Or you can also just download the latest version of clk that is also linked in my guide also as it already has Clockwork Mod Recovery included with it.
Thanks for help and info.
I guess this is the link you are referring to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021837
?
There are so many options, I have no idea where to start? What is the most simple solution? And how do I put Android on it?
Also, I am not sure if my battery is about 30% full, is it possible to charge it before I proceed. The red light does not come on.
Thanks
Hi
If you want to change your ROM with one another like Android NAND ROM or Windows 6.5 ROM, then use this steps.
For NAND Android ROM; You must flollow this sequence;
first check your device if it is 2.08.HSPL, and format your sdcard ext3 or ext4 and 1gb primary (which one you must use is pointed out by your Android chief). Copy new Android ROM into your sdcard's FAT32 (it must be primary again) section. insert it into your HTC device.
1. do task29
2. install radio rom 2.15.50.14
3. install magldr 1.13
4. do recovery 5.0.2.6
5. do clear cache and dalvik cache.
6. Choose your android ROM .zip file on sdcard, load and enjoy...
For Windows 6.5 Follow this sequence;
Choose a proper win 6.5 ROM for you and, check your device if it is 2.08.HSPL, Format your sdcard like FAT 32 primary partition. insert it into your HTC device.
1. do Task29
2. Install Radio ROM 2.15.50.14
3. Run LeoCustomRUU.exe like "Run as Administrator" which Windows 6.5 rom you chose to use.
HD2Toolkit ; it contains Task29, Magldr, Recovery, Clk and HSPL tools.
www.mediafire.com/?2qz0xa7xfxney47
Radio ROM 2.15.50.14;
www.mediafire.com/?1th8o158r2t6dba
Or more simple one
-Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from an original win 6.5 ROM and copy it to your SD card.
- Rename to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset your device while pressing the volume down button.
regards...
Sorry guys, it sounds to complicated to me.
How do I format those partitions?
Any software?
do I do it from PC?
my phone is not working at present
I would like to install latest android though.

What to I do in order to install latest android?
Step by step if possible?

Which Android ROM do you have in hand? Did you look for any android ROM, or which one do you want?
Some steps depends on your ROM which you have chosen.
I am still using an old Android ROM. You must choose a ROM firstly.
First off all the SD card partitioning is not needed to get Android running on your HD2. No offense to powerofthink but they are making this way more complicated than it has to be. The only real thing you need to be sure of is that your SD card is formatted with Fat 32, But most SD cards come formatted this way.
Now download clk 1.5 by Rick_1995, from his clk thread. This version already has Clockwork Mod Recovery included in it so you will have CWM when you flash this file. You flash it just like you flashed the other versionn of clk you flashed before.
Next download the ROM of your choice. Then boot into CWM by holding down the home button while you boot your HD2 up. When you see CWM appear on the screen use the volume buttons to scroll down to "Mounts and storage" and press the send button. Next connect your device to your computer via USB cable and then scroll down to "-mount USB storage" and press the send button. This will allow you to transfer your ROM's .zip file to your SD card by allowing your computer to mount your SD card as a removable. Go to the Windows Start Menu and click on computer and you should see your SD card listed as a removable drive, click on it then copy and past your ROM .zip file to your SD card. Once you have your ROM transferred to your SD card go back to your device and go back to the main menu of CWM by pressing the back button on your device. This will on mount your SD card from your computer. Next scroll down to "-install zip from sdcard" in the main menu of CWM and press the send buttonn. Then scroll down to "-choose zip from sdcard" and press the send button. Now scroll down until you see the .zip file for your ROM and select it by pressing the send button. Select yes in the next menu and let the ROM install. After the ROM is done installing use the back button to go back to the main menu of CWM and select reboot now. Then just let yopur device boot all the way up to the lock screen of the ROM and unlock it and go through the setup.
It is no need to partion when you use clk because clk does all the partitioning for you, unlike MAGLDR which you have to manually re partition manually when you change ROMs.
well I would like to install latest 4.04 ice cream sandwich, but modded for speed if possible?
my card is formatted in fat32 8gig.
Any links for that sort of ROM including procedure for beginners?
I am even more confused now
cheers
I can not do anything.
When I try to either use MAGLDR or cLK, phone responds more and less, but when it comes to progress bar it stays at 0% all the time regardless what procedure I want to do.
e.g.
Starting To Perform MAGLDR Installation
Setting Up Environment for MAGLDR
Starting Installation in 3
Starting Installation in 2
Starting Installation in 1
Checking phone for information!
Starting MAGLDR Installation, Check progress on Phone screen.
Is it a problem that I have cLK installed from before, in cLK progress is also at 0%.
I tried to use official Windows ROM 6.5 from HTC page but does not work too.
Did I brick the phone?
