I hope that this is in the right place, but I've run into a strange problem with my Desire Z.
I have rooted and achieved S-Off by following the process at Cyanogen's Wiki.
I had Cyanogen 7.0.3 working just fine for a few months. Last night, I was trying to install some apps (Zenonia 2 and 3 to be precise), and the system hung during the install. So, I set it down for a few mins, then pulled the battery after I figured it wasn't coming back.
In trying boot after the hang, the system stuck on the Cyanogen mod load screen, left for 5+ mins and still no progress.
Rebooting again stuck it on the HTC screen.
I can still get into Hboot and ClockworkMod, but when trying to flash the CM7 boot.img through fastboot I receive the following error
Code:
writing 'boot' ... FAILED (remote:not allowed)
which is the same result when trying to flash the stock rom boot
CWM 3.0.2.4 generates errors as well.
Code:
E:\Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:\Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:\Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:\Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:\Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
When I try and flash CM7 back through "install zip from sdcard", I get the following
Code:
Finding update package...
Opening updae package...
Installing update...
E:Error in /sdcard/update-cm-7.0.3-vision-signed.zip (Status 1)
Installation aborted.
Now I'm pretty (ie 99%) sure that this is the same CM that I installed before without a hitch.
I am pretty new to android, and any help you might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated!
Sounds like you don't have eng hboot installed. that's why you can't flash anything from the bootloader. I am pretty sure you have already done that .but have you done a full wipe from recovery?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I have wiped both the data and cache in CWM. And the bootloader that shows up is the engboot (three boarding droids, hboot command, etc)
Connect your phone to your pc, put your phone on fastboot and try this command: fastboot erase system -w
That should solve the problem .I am assuming you have the fastboot binary in your adb folder as well.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
You can also try to flash another rom just to make sure the cm7 zip that you have is not the problem

I had this exact problem, I'm afraid to say it seems your emmc chip went bad... This happened to my previous G2 and left it a brick. What you need to do is hop on the IRC channel #g2root on a IRC client (on irc.freenode.com) and talk to a guy named Guhl. He can help you determine if your eemc chip is truly broken or fixable!
Thanks Kevin. I'll try that when I get a chance.

Well that's what I though ,you havnt got eng hboot installed what's is why you can't use fastboot commands . I don't think it is anything hardware related though. Youmight be Able to fix it by flashing a pc10img

Its weird cause I never used to see anything about it. Now all of a sudden over the past few months it seems to be happening to someone every other day. Either way its not your fault. Bad luck. I read a real good explanation of why/what happens but not sure where its at now

hi, i've searched the threads and tried everything but nothing has helped. found a very similar thread but their solution didnt' work for me...
tried a new rom (froyo), wiped, flashed, rebooted then it had sdcard mount problems thought it was the rom so i wiped and then tried to flash with no luck it says

is the phone bricked?
Really need some help here i'm stuck
Try this from command line, boot into fastboot and type:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
no good,
...INFO [ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY
HELP!!!!!!!
Oops, didn't see that you were using 32B
try this(You need recovery image first):
Code:
fastboot -c board_sapphire.disable_sdcard=0 boot [b]<recovery image name>[/b]
From here, you should be able to flash another ROM.
to be clear... if my recovery image was renamed to recovery.img i simply type this into fastboot?
fastboot -c board_sapphire.disable_sdcard=0 boot recovery.img
NEVERMIND, ok the recovery image has been flashed but it still doesn't let me access the SD CARD to install a rom...
i'm still not understanding what to do after i put in your command. still no access to sdcard
ok so should i just throw my phone against the wall or something...
anyhting i want to flash from fastboot gives me FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
except the recovery image i was able to flash with the code provided above. anyone know how i can flash a radio or rom from fastboot without getting that message? remember the phone is 32B and it cna't recognize my SD CARD (my problem in the first place)
I have the same problem, but just do this:
Go into recovery -> Backup/Restore ->
choose Nandroid backup but don't press home to start the backup; press back instead.
Do this last step 2 to 3 times and flashing from sd should work.
ok well ... i managed to unroot my phone by installing the sappimg.nbh
but now i can't get into recovery...
and my phone does not recognize my SD CARD in any shape or form. the SD card seems to be fine though when i put it in my PC
so at this point... phone is working with stock ROM but SD CARD can not be found.
HELP!!!
I'm going to close this because it is posted in the wrong section.
@Dannyfal, I'll open this back up when you can send me a private message with where you think that this should have been posted.
I know that you're all going to think that this is cruel and even counter-productive but I have to move over a dozen posts each night because some members just don't know what qualifies as "Development." To qualify for "Development" is must be regarding production or modification of Android software.
If you think that this is unreasonable then refer to this post here:

I have a T-Mobile UK DHD that I'd fully rooted, Eng-Off, Radio S-Off & SuperCID
I was running a LeeDroid ROM but yesterday it began frequently locking up so I tried to do a wipe and reinstall the ROM but at the end of the ROM installation after "Writing boot.img" it said:
assert failed: write_raw_image ("/tmp/boot.img","boot")
E:Error in /sdcard/LeeDrOiD_HD_V2.0.0.zip

I also kept getting the messages E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log & E:Can't open CACHE:recovery/log
I then tried to install the stock 1.32 RUU but that stuck at the Updating User Data stage at 40%.
I'm now stuck with the bootloader options and simply have a white screen with the below and warning triangles bottom left & right.

you cant just flash rom via ADB. you need recovery. Do you have clockwork mod recovery?
The message you get about being unable to write boot suggests you are no longer S-off, whilst bootloader suggests you have s-off, l would start from scratch and s-off again and then try reinstalling the rom

Do you mean Eng or Radio off? Can I do that with no bootloader options or recovery?
How would you suggest installing the ROM and which one?
Thanks for any advice.
I've just tried jkolo's easy S-Off tool but I get an error message pop-up "Module or hboot fail. Aborting."
So what happenes when you choose the recovery option?
Oh and btw don't worry too much about the void warranty, I've read of a few people who've had to send phones back to HTC without being able to revert to stock first and they've been successful - obviously this is a last resort.

I haven't tried that yet but fear the 1st line may wipe my only way of communicating if the 2nd part doesn't work
well you say you haven't got the recovery option anyway, so you could leave that line out I only put it because that's what I'd do.
HOWEVER: I'm no expert.
Question after Re-reading your post: Are you worried you'll delete fastboot? I'm sure that's not what I'm suggesting. But as it's your £500 device wait for someone else to confirm.

I'd jump to thinking you're not ENG S-Off anymore (got to say probably the failed 1.32 flash that did it. And you can't use that tool so look for an alternative description of how to get there.
If you can't use ADB I don't know how to get there.
If somehow ADB does start working then the CyanogenMod wiki might be useful.

If you lost s-off while flashing the 1.32 rom then I also suspect you lost root.

I've got backups of:
hboot_original.bin & part7backup-1294609557.bin
Are they of any help?
I can't see any way to gain Eng-Off without root so I'm at a loss.
The frustrating thing is I don't know what happened in the 1st place that froze my phone and kicked all this off. I'm guessing I have a hardware fault of some sort
Would T-Mobile exchange or repair under warranty, despite the mods I'd made?

I'm starting to regret trying that as a solution now
I remembered something similar being posted on these forums a few months ago, so I had a search and found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9139950
I'm not an expert on these things, so I don't know if this would work for you. I would suggest waiting for someone with a bit more experience than me to join the discussion, as I don't know how similar your circumstances are to the ones in that thread. Do you get any error messages on your PC when you run the RUU? I take it that it finds your phone, whereas in the thread above the RUU wasn't seeing the phone.
However I thought reading that might give you some hope. Worth reading the thread all the way through.
I think what disabled most of your options was flashing a stock ruu. It overwrites hboot and the recovery.
Edit: since the ruus fail installing, maybe someting is off with your device, NAND error or someting.
this sort of thing doesnt happen if you are flashing custom roms though right? its making me nervous now!

The errors started when I was on a Custom ROM but my suspicion is that it's a hardware fault to blame. If I can't fix this then whilst the custom ROM probably didn't cause the damage, the general unlocking etc may have voided my warranty.
I have a rooted aria. I rooted it using unrevoked.
I was using CM6.1.1 before it started to behave erratically. Then I flashed it again, and this time I wanted to try liberty, so I put the zip on my SD card and did the data wipe dalvik wipe and everything, but I always land up with an error saying perm recursive something, and that cant chown some dir in bin.
Now after that I have tried to go to CM6.1.1 back, but it wont install, I dont get any error, but the installation finishes within a couple of seconds and it doesnt goes past HTC logo.
Next I tried unrooting it, using the RUU and the instructions given on the forum, but it recognizes my devices as liberty and when I update it, it gives me a signature error 132.
The only thing that installs on my phone right now is CM6.0.2 and nothing else. Please help me with this. I am really irked with the phone. Anything which ll make it stable and not reboot every 30 mins, will be good.
Thanks
Can you get into fastboot?

Hmm it should work, try attn1 IRC.
I know as long as you have it in fastboot you should be able to send and install it.... you could try renaming the rom to LIBEIMG.ZIP and put it on your sdcard then put the phone in fastboot and see if it works that way.

Hi friends, I come to you android gurus if you can help me and guide about this cellphone that is giving me a lot of problems.
1. - when I enter in the recovery menu (home + end) the SD and Bluetooth stop working until insert and flash the mtd0.img file again
2. - I put a custom rom CyanogenMod 6.1.0-DS-signed, and the screen gets a green tint and i dont know how fixit i tried with a kernel patch but the screen turns black when the phone is starting and stays black after the logo MyTouch3g and phone never starts.
3. - Which is the most recommended customized rom, rooted faster and more stable for this phone, as some basic applications like angry birds, skate boy, etc, it runs way tooooo slow and sometimes dont respond and freeze, i want to install this custom rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641521 but is necesary do every one step in the instruction for the install?

Hello!,
I got my nexus 4 on Tuesday this week. The first thing I did was to load francos kernel. Today I decided to go back to stock and downloaded fresh images from google. I added the image thru Fastboot and now the process after the files are loaded to the phone, goes REALLY slow.
The Google image stays there for 3 minutes then it goes to the Nexus logo. I erased everything like 5 times and same thing. Right now, its been about 10 minutes and it is still in the Nexus logo.
If it's the first boot it will go slow it should speed up after that.
