Before Apple has all production and sales stopped? The injunction may pass to prevent sales on 4 Samsung devices. The Tab 10.1, Nexus S 4G, DROID Charge, and Infuse. It's sad, but this judge does seem to favor Apple a lot in this case.

I am highly considering ordering a 32GB Black WiFi only one from my Sprint store just because I want one so badly. I really wanted a 3G/4G one from Sprint, but I guess that isn't going to happen.
The Verizon LTE 10.1 won't even be released in time, but if it is...I may consider buying it just for the purposes of having mobile network capabilities.
I've already got mine. They can't take it away no matter what happens.
I have the 32GB Black one. My wife got it for me for Father's Day. I know it's WIFI only but when the Galaxy S II comes out, I'm going to add the wifi hotspot so I can pair these 2 badasses together. Whosdaman - please keep us updated with all the latest on the SGS2 as usual
I really doubt that will happen...

+1. It's just a bunch of legal crap. They'll settle sooner or later.
Ugh. Hopefully this tweet from AnonymousIRC is a foreshadowing of larger attacks on Apple if they continue to try low, dirty tactics like that.
Seriously, attempting to block a competitors' ability to sell products when you're the market leader anyway? That's just pathetic, someone please tell Apple that just because Microsoft may have bullied them doesn't give them the right to do it to others.

None of these devices look anything like Apples. I've also never heard anyone say "it looks like an iPhone"
WoW, Android must have a huge impact on ipad sales - haha.
In Germany Galaxy S2 has a massive sales rate, was even sold out for some time
Touchwizz looks like apple. I wouln't mind if they remove it.
The 10.1 doesn't really belong on that list, while the others have TouchWiz on them, the 10.1 does not and does not otherwise copy any Apple product.
Not really a fan of Apple's scare tactics, they're annoying.
Its not that they copied them...had no one been following this case? Samsung is using patented products in those devices without apples authorization

Ahh, Oracle. The worst thing to happen to Sun Microsystems since... well, ever. Luckily Oracle stepped on a lot of toes and every piece of software they got from Sun that was worth anything got forked, so I don't have to ever see their ugly logo on any software I use.
I hope Google wins, not for Android's sake, but in the vain hope that Dalvik will overtake Java everywhere and kill the last major product Oracle got from Sun. They destroyed everything good about Sun, they don't deserve to profit from their products.
Wow, I'm just raging all over this thread aren't I?
Some reality for you: Apple will never get an injunction. Absent an actual verdict of infringement -- which will take years to achieve in our legal system -- Apple would need to prove irreparable harm in order to obtain a preliminary injunction pending trial. Considering the pace of Ipad sales, I think this will be all but impossible. Moreover, Apple would likely be required to post a bond to protect Samsung in case Samsung eventually prevailed at trial, with that bond being equivalent to all the lost profit that Samsung would lose if Tab sales were halted. Apple doesn't have that kind of cash to invest in games like this.
These suits are really about patent cross-licensing. Apple will eventually extort a bundle of license rights from Samsung in exchange for granting Samsung a bundle of Apple's license rights. This is like patent infringement insurance for Apple, because it'll stave off some future theoretical infringement claims not only from Samsung but from other patent holders. In other words, you bring one lawsuit today to help stave off 20 lawsuits in the future. Its good business practice, and every major technology company in the world does it to some degree.
Samsung should respond with a bad batch of screens

I imagine that US courts will be happy to let Apple go after foreign companies who obviously used time machines to travel forward and steal Apple's 'innovative' design for a rounded rectangle to make similar devices years before the first iPhone. Just think how many years of retrospective-royalties they can claim for
Whilst they are at it, they can shut down European and Asian flatscreen TV manufacturers who have long been building sets with rounded corners .. should prove useful when Apple introduce their rumoured TV.
It's no surprise that Apple were able to file a very dodgy bunch of patents with the US Patent Office and that a US Court will hold them up when deployed against foreign competition. What will be interesting is when other US companies end up tangled in Apple litigation, principally Google/Motorola.
You cant stop the Android train when it start's to move, 70% of the smartphone marked and still rising :good:
Don't think the iPhone 5 can save apple
Even though it was a loss for Samsung i think in the end they will bounce back and still be a stiff competitor to Apple. Samsung is bringing back the stylus format, even though many people hate it, what will Apple do to combat this? Probably nothing. We have all complained about Samsung many times due to hardware or software issues but we still go back to them because they come out with excellent devices. Imagine what Samsung will come up with next after this ruling.
Here is another article on the subject
http://news.yahoo.com/analysis-sweeping-apple-win-samsung-set-bounce-back-053300691--sector.html
Here is another thing I don't understand why is Samsung still supplying parts to Apple? Okay aside from the million/billion dollar business deal for parts, enough is is enough, you want to make a dent in Apple's sales take away their parts and force them look somewhere else. By doing this they will have to make possible design and software changes from the parts (correct me if I am wrong on this).
Well another point I want to make is that Iphones, Ipads will become part of a niche market just like their computers are.

I found the following list of the verdict here:
– On the question of patents on the bounce-back technology featured in Galaxy line of smartphones immediately following the launch of the iPhone, Samsung is liable.
– On the question of pinch-and-zoom technologies, mostly based on one-and-two fingered control, the jury finds Samsung is guilty. Not all of the phones and tablets have been tagged as liable but many of them. (The damage figures could be huge.)
– On the question of tap and zoom technologies, Samsung is guilty. There are fewer devices dinged.
– Jury finds Samsung should have known that its divisions were enabling infringement actions.
– Jury finds Samsung DID NOT infringe iPad patents. That’s one on the column for Samsung.
– On the question of UI, mostly based on the iconography of the front screen of the iPhone, the jury finds Samsung guilty.
– This might be the biggest one so far: On the question of willfulness on most of the infringement of patents, the jury finds Samsung guilty as well.
– The jury ultimately upholds most of Apple’s patents. Samsung is barred by “patent exhaustion” from using patents 516 and 941. In the original instruction form Apple denied “infringed claims asserted by Samsung” and argued claims asserted by Samsung were invalid. The jury agreed.
– The jury decides against awarding Samsung any damages. Zero.
– The jury finds Samsung did not break Apple’s anti-trust exception.
– After reviewing the verdict, Judge Koh noted discrepancies that wrongly gave Apple more money than it deserved. The first is a judgement on the Galaxy Tab. There was no infringement for the Tab patent but the jury had given more than $200,000 in damages. A second problem involved a trade dress judgement, which involves more than 2M dollars. Considering the judgement leveled more than a Billion dollars upon Samsung, a 2M dollar saving is strictly irrelevant.

Is there an accurate detailed list somewhere about the points the jury decided on? Apparently many of the points only affect certain devices, which is quite strange - if the jury ruled Samsung infringed e.g. on the pinch-zoom patent then basically every single Android device (and most other smartphones) would be infringing, no?
One of the more interesting points for us 7.7 users seems to be mostly ignored by most of the reporting, the forth point:
Jury finds Samsung DID NOT infringe iPad patents.

I've seen this on several mentioned on several websites yet none goes into any detail on what exactly it means. If the jury ruled Samsung's tablets including the 7.7 do not infringe this could be seen as a partial win for Samsung.

I believe this is regarding the 3G patents, but apple claims that once they bought the chips from intel who paid the fees to samsung that apple is no longer required to pay samsung for those 3G patents.
But even if the court decides in accordance with the jury's conclusion will not tear away the reason for Samsung's competent.
Relatively small claims
Firstly, the compensation amount is set to 1.05 billion dollars. The amount is less than half of the original claim to Apple.
Samsung is unlikely to suffer any distress due compensation amount. Approximately 70% of revenue is based on the smart phone sales, where the number of phones that were sold between April and June was more than double the number of sold smartphones from Apple. Proceeds from this sale amounted to 4.5 billion dollars.
New design creates loopholes
"The impact on Samsung will be quite limited. The models affected are primarily older products, while the new products, changes in design to avoid potential litigation, "says patent attorney SU Intellectual Property, DJ Jung.

Actually the impact on all Android devices will be quite severe. If they force them to remove features such as double tap (ridiculous since Windows tablet computers did this before there even was an iphone) and pinch to zoom, the Android interface will be quite awful. Can you imagine zooming into websites or pictures using some crappy slide bar or arrows or something? Blech!
It's a pity über-litigation, immeasurable greed and pure "douchbaguiness" weren't around in the 1930's.
Just imagine the market cap of Baird UK in our days if someone there had just put a proverbial turtle-neck black sweater on and been consequentially infused with the brilliant idea of preventing every other prospective TV manufacturer to use their "patented" "Box-with-screen-and-some-dials" propriatary format

...and another thing...The lack of equity in the dispensing of justice is something that always ticks me off.
If I was the judge in this case the first thing I would have asked Apple's in the very first hearing session would have been: "All right, where are the other individual claims against all manufacturers that used the same touch pad concept?"
If they failed to produce proof of the other filled claims, I would immediatly rule the claim against Samsung to not be about the alleged infrigment but about trying to block a competitor and, as such, would consider Apple a "bad faith litigator".
Going after selected targets for commercial convinience is something no system focused on actual justice should allow.

Apple wants more, now hey waned to Ban almost all the latest samsung released , including tabs and the sIII.. what a pity
Do not fear. This is just the beginning. This is just a small battle that Apple has won but the war is not over and the end result will be that all these companies will just cross license their "patents" so that they can focus on their core business of providing good hardware and software that can compete on merit. Anything else will just result in the demise of the company that takes its eye off the ball. Apple will have to decide if they are a tech firm or a law firm.

Don't worry guys, Samsung won't pay a penny.
Everyone knows every feature or design on the iphone has been seen at least once on a different device.
They will appeal, and as stated - A U.S judge & and jury isn't gonna side against Apple.
Apple is god in America, most of their sales are there, here in the UK Apple isn't even the 2nd biggest phone supplier, never mind the first.
Rounded corners
Grid icons
Icon docks
Centre button
Full touchscreen
They have all been done before apple, and the fact they can patent such rubbish shows how biased that country is.
Not to mention the blatant infringements that Apple have, notification bar, dedicated background downloaded, WiFi sync, even their icloud, imap, siri, imessage etc are all copied features from other devices.
Why do I still get the feeling that all suppliers who actually do the creating & innovating are all gonna boycott apple....
Too many manufacturers, too many consumers are for Samsung, Google & Android & I really do believe that the Googarolla case against Apple is 'just the start'
The case means nothing really, was always gonna get an appeal - but it will bring all consumers, manufacturers etc closer together against Apple - no doubt about that. (everyone knew this result before it started, U.S legal system wouldn't do anything differently, the fact apple got away with everything even on clear infringements & copying just shows this)

This is big problem for Samsung in US, most likely no tw and design changes if Samsung want to sell phones in us from now on.
An appeal is unlikely to succeed, the chance for that to happen is very low.
at least it's not the full 2.45 billion they were looking for.
..on another note- This has nothing to do with the Galaxy S3
I like the idea of Jury trials in principle but this case just how out of touch and self serving the US legal system really is.
Because what the Hell are12 random people expected to know about patent law? and how do you expect 12 people with no legal training to be anything but biased towards Apple when blind dumb patriotism is hammered into Americans as a kid with flags hanging out every window and now those people are expected to judge fairly against this Asian country where most Americans know so little about what's going on outside their own country they'll probably think Samsung is run by Kim Jong-Un.

well put.
Let’s pretend that you’re a blogger. You’re given the chance to review new, hot hardware from a major company. All that’s required is that you participate in some tasks, but these tasks would fit into your coverage so you agree. In return you get to be one of the first to go hands-on with devices and give your opinion on them. Sounds like a good deal? Well that’s what a couple of Indian participants in Samsung’s Mob!ler program thought too, until Samsung threatened to leave them stranded in Berlin, Germany.
First let’s start with the facts. Programs such as Mob!lers (or Mobilers, for my sanity) are in place by many companies. In fact, I’ve even participated in one, for a company called STI, where I’ve done reviews of Kia and Mazda cars. But there’s one factor that differentiates programs such as STI from Mobilers – Only one of them expects you to become a shill for the company.
The story that follows is one of those that’s going to be hard to believe. We’ve done our very best to verify the facts, and we’ve heard the same tale from multiple sources and the end result has been the same in each case. That said, let’s go back in time a few weeks....

It wasn't "just wear a t-shirt", it was them being given the choice of being there as a reporter or a promoter. As bloggers, they stated they would be there in the capacity of reporters. Upon arrival, they were told they would be required to be in a Samsung uniform and work in a booth as a promoter. You have ZERO credibility as a journalist if you're known to have been actively promoting a product. Did you read this?

Until I hear otherwise, I'll take Samsung at their word that this was a huge misunderstanding on the part of the local Sammy reps at the event. Big companies don't pull nonsense like that on journalists. That tends to bite you in the arse when every news site picks up the story.

Knowing how Samsung operate these events, no guarantees would have (or should have) been given before they left India as to if they would have been reporters or promoters, Samsung split these roles 50/50 for all Mobilers in attendance and don't decide before everyone arrives who is doing what.
Obviously I cannot comment on what was actually said in this instance or if either party is telling the truth, I can only tell you from what I have experienced myself.
(to any journalists looking at this! THE GUARDIAN! - do not use what I am saying without permission and certainly not if its incomplete or out of context - I do not know the facts of this case and I am merely commenting on my Experience as a Mob!ler which does not match in anyway what has gone on here)
Well, it is all hearsay at this point. Samsung did apparently acknowledge a misunderstanding. With them being in the media spotlight, I'm sure they're gonna do all they can to make this go away.
Who do they think they are? Im too good to wear a samsung T-Shirt? What did they expect to be treated like royalty? LOL

It's tough these days to really qualify people... "bloggers" for instance. That could be someone who is published regularly at CNET or someone who has a Wordpress blog with 3 subscribers. So, I guess I have to lump them all together and give them the benefit of the doubt.
If you're promoting a product, your credibility is zilch. There's a particular photography review site that was purchased by a large company that sells cameras and lenses. From that point forward, all their reviews are glowing. Because they're selling the products, too. They have zero credibility. I go there for the spec lists and disregard everything else.
So, these 2 dudes wanted to maintain journalistic credibility and I respect that. Say you were this "Jeff". A small-time blogger in India, and you pumped out some really high quality work that caught the eye of some major player like CNET, Verge, etc. They consider adding your stuff to their site. Oops- look, there's pictures of Jeff in a Samsung uniform working a show booth. Dude's a corporate shill. We can't take his work as unbiased. Next!
Like I said, this is all hearsay. And I'm just speculating and presuming the 2 articles were accurate. But IF they're true, maintaining credibility is vital in journalism.
While I agree with Mr. Crane's viewpoint (above), I must say that it is Samsung India that is at fault.
Also, I'd wear the t-shirt and do a bit of promotion work if Samsung is giving it all away for free. If I were a journalist, it would raise my online presence (by being at a special event and covering it myself). Then, after I have my hands on with the product (sometime after the launch), I'd give my full and honest opinion about it.
For example, I absolutely ADORE the S3. It's the best smartphone ever made. Period. BUT I do wish they'd given us more RAM. Is 1.2-1.5 gb of RAM too much to ask? I really don't want crApple beating us on this. Nothing is a match for the Note 2 but it's a tad too big for my taste.
This is a repost because i feel strongly about this petition and i, as well as many believe apple are being frivalous and ruining Android

no need to get too much excited about it...
Five good reasons why everyone should relax a bit more:
#1 Those judges in the US made their decisions due to that stupid leaked communication of Samsung (almost admitting they would steal Apple ideas) not because of any true patent infringements - that won't work outside of Hollywood
#2 Apple will never be able to get that smelly patent stuff set in Europe or Asia (probably partial for true proofs of touching true patents - nothing more) believe it or not: the market in Europe and Asia is a lot bigger than in the US...
#3 Apple needs Samsung, they buy lots of hardware (retina displays for example) - so they'll need to make a good offer for licensing.
#4 the iPhone 5 has a built in LTE chip, many Android-friendly companies (LG, Motorola, HTC, Samsung) hold strong patents on LTE (not that regional californian silicon valley BS patents). Experts already mentioned that Apple won't have a chance to win on that one.
#5 Apple could buy Bing from Microsoft - but most likely they won't (could ruin them) - they definitely need to be found on the net to market and sell their products. Just think a moment about it (if you remember who invented Android)...

Totally agree with that, whatever happens apple will be the loser. The reason they have resorted to dirty tactics is because they know they can't compete anymore being in a closed source environment. The patents they hold will only stand in America and they won't stand for very much longer as the competition are just waking up to this threat and starting to realise that between them all the patents they hold are much stronger across the world and can be very damaging to apple, wait till the biggest gun Google get dragged into it then you'll see apple squirm. They are walking a very thin tightrope, its business as usual at Samsung as they know they can make new innovations which will get them back in the game in America and even if they just removed the offending articles there phones are still better simply because they run on android.
