Hello Everybody, I am new to this forum, but not XDA. I am soon to be buying a Eee Pad Transformer, but there is one major setback. I love my brother's xoom. It's amazing, fast, smooth, and all functions work. The one thing I've seen is how the Transformer doesn't look like the Xoom (so I'm led to believe it's dotted with ASUS's own software, while still running Honeycomb). Is there an easy fix for this? I've looked at the custom roms and can't find one that looks to be almost exactly like the Xoom. But I am a N3wb when it comes to Tablets, so I would really like some details on what to expect, from several people on performance, and preferably pro's and con's.
Thanks IA

All Honeycomb tablets at this time (with the exception of Galaxy Tab 10.1) are running stock Honeycomb. Some tablets may add apps of their own but it is not really bloatware.
If you're talking about the buttons on the bottom left there is a easy fix for that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1120014&highlight=Xoom

Umm.. you could flash a kernel and ROM afterwards?
Development is very limited as Honeycomb is closed-source.
Out of the box experience is amazing on Honeycomb though.

Possibly getting one this week or next weekend!

Just FYI, I had a Xoom before I got my Transformer. I am _much_ happier with my Transformer, both in terms of the screen (a huge improvement) and how Asus is supporting the device. Of course, the keyboard dock is a huge plus that nobody else can match...
Not knocking the Xoom, but rather to say that you won't likely regret your decision between them.

If you mean HoneyComb then you're going to be waiting until there's something official to work from unless you want a virtually useless SDK build. As yet it's not out there.

May I suggest changing the thread title to [Bounty] Honeycomb Port? The title "Bounty" is more consistent with other bounty threads I've seen here on XDA.
Once official is released (not SDK), I have $40 for a working CDMA port.
All I gotta say is, how in the world does the nook get a honeycomb port and we're left in the dust.....wtf! Thats an ebook reader

Obvisouly a very open and easy platform to mod. Hopefully After the 2nd we will have something to work w/.

That's not true. You can get make a working rom from SDK builds, but it'll (probably) be laggy and a lot of things won't work as it should. The wonders they've done on the Nook is amazing IMHO. Hats off to them.

Oh I've seen it. Whilst impressive, it's still a glorified tech demo. It's certainly not very useful as a full system.

Pretty sure that's basically what I said. "virtually useless" = "lot of things won't work as it should". The usual suspects of GPS and Camera will be high on that list.
If people are happy with a system with very few native apps which is slow & unstable (ala the Nook "port"), then sure, go for it. Otherwise you're still going to be waiting for AOSP to drop, (which may be later today, but I'm not holding my breath), or for an official firmware to rip apart. Then someone needs to hack the hardware-specific drivers into life on the tab, might be a piece of cake if the 2.x source is friendly with the 3.0 libraries, someone more coding-minded would need to assess that one.
I'm all for someone hacking something together to have a play with to see what it looks like, I just hope people aren't expecting a release-quality port based off an SDK "demo".

I'd give and keep giving as long as development continues, I would love a fully functional honeycomb port. To be honest I'm dying to get something as smooth and fast as cyanogen on my tab cause I hate the fact that my nexus one performs better than my tab, faster, and has more features than my tablet =\ especially since the tablet has more powerful hardware. I can't wait for honeycomb and I'd freakin subscribe if there was a donation subscription.

The above rumors that Honeycomb was going to require a dual-core processor have been denied! Lots of tablet owners wrote all over the internet (and in our comments) that they are worried that the next Android OS won’t be available on Galaxy Tab. A few hours ago, Dan Morrill from Android Team denied the rumors through a tweet saying : “there’s no hard minimum for Honeycomb”.
So good news guys, don’t worry, enjoy your tee , coffee, sleep and wait for Honeycomb to be released so we can enjoy it!
http-://xxx.thegalaxytab.com/2011/01/04/samsung-galaxy-tab-might-not-receive-android-honeycomb-update/
Old, old, news! This wasn't reported a few hours ago - it was a few weeks ago! See here.
FYI, this doesn't confirm that the Tab *will* get Honeycomb from Samsung - only that it is almost certainly capable of running on Honeycomb.
Regards,
Dave
Old. Also, tea not tee.
I think the fact that a new Galaxy Tab 2 is coming soon pretty much puts a nail in the coffin for a official honeycomb update. Who uses official ROMS anyways though. XDA will have one.
It's always good to have an official update. It's always a good mine of useful driver updates, mini bugfixes etc.
It also prolongs the life of the device: it'll be sold for a longer time, so it'll sell more, which means more devices and more interest in the wild, better and wider array of accessories etc.

Hello every one
Finally my tablet will be arrive tomorrow morning and i am so happy and excited to be an iconia user by joining this community
But How to make this tablet even better by upgrading it .
P.S. (i am not an expert in android stuff yet )
I can't see a lot that needs to be done to it.
Maybe a screen protector if you want, a bluetooth keyboard, a case or bag to protect it.
And a 8 or 16G class 6 MicroSD card.
If yours is anything like mine, a way yo make the screen sharp and not blurry. Some glue for the glass. Mine has been coming off since I got it, I'm returning this one, it is awful, can't be live my glass if loosening and the screen is blurry.
The only true way to improve this tablet:
Root and bootloader unlocked, then it can be overclocked and totally personalized/improved by the devs here at xda, (xoom and transformer already overclocked and running at a smooth 1.5gh) shhh my £200 advent vega tab beats the iconia hands down on quadrant and smartbench 2011 speed tests!!!

My suggestion. Play with your tablet for a day or two and see what it is like. If you find things that you would like to change on your tablet that need root then you can add the root hack to accomplish them.
Take time to read the threads here and learn how to do things before trying them and before asking questions that have already been asked. There is a wealth of information here that can easily be found by reading.
Good luck with your new toy and enjoy it.

Here is my last reply to you. The OP is new to this tablet. He is asking what he can do to this to make it work nicely for him/her. Can he unlock the bootloader? No. Can he replace the Kernel? No. Just because you want this stuff, and by the way quadrant benchmarks are crap, doesn't mean the op does. Provide some good info that can actually be accomplished. There are a bunch of other threads that you can spam and whine about not being able to do what you want.

You may take issue with its outdated OS, but thankfully a couple of hackers have replaced the Vega's antiquated Android 2.2 with a heaping helping of Honeycomb. Hi Fluffbutt,
As my signature below, I currently have this honeycomb on the vega. And wifi internet is sweeeeet btw.
But please note this is not about the vega, I just use it as reference that it is faster in smartbench 2011
I cannot wait to see what the Iconia will be able to do, and how much faster and smoother the user experience will be when it gets opened up as it should be unlocked and kernel source supplied (android not apple anyone?) and the superb devs here get to work on it.
enjoy
Just my two pennies.Try using it for a few days or so without putting much on it.from the complaints in the forums about a few of the issues I do really wonder if there are some really rouge not quite ready for honeycomb apps out there.so with that said testing apps is a must
Never install more then one at a time
Run each forbanday or so tobsee how its effecting your tab
Then if you have a big issue you will know the app causing it most likely
Enjoy your new tablet.its not as much fun and useful as a new pair of heels and matching skirt. But my tab Rocks

Ya I do want one now! I have trying to hold out for the Transformer 2, but I have almost went and grabbed something else on a couple occasions now. ;-) Normally I am fairly patient though, so I can wait if I think I'm getting a better product. I have looked at the xoom a couple times. Something rubs me wrong with it though. Maybe the whole Motorola and locked boot loader fiasco. I am not sure this applies to the xoom however and maybe just their phones. I keep getting the feeling of some hidden hoopla I'm going to run across.

It's been hard for me not to just grab a samsung tab and be done with it! I have enjoyed my epic and the hardware has been outstanding! I guess there are two things keeping me from doing that
.
1) The tegra 3 quad core in the prime. (hardware)
2) Just wanting something a lil different from my phone I guess.
The main things that are important to me is hardware, and developer support. The Epic would just not be the same without either of those! So, I want that in a tablet as well.
I also will need to get a windows 8 tablet due to my job so I wanted to keep the price down on the android tablet. However that Transformer Primes hardware and promises of ICS soon is making that tough! ;-)
Well, from doing some more digging with google it looks like their tablet is still 6 months away.
However, I am in the market for a tablet before then. Looks like google won't be getting my money this time around!
Hopefully they will release details on specs at CES in January as I am curious what's in it.
