Temp root for flyer, no root for EVO?!??? - EVO 4G General

Ive never heard of the flyer but it sure doesn't sound better than the EVO lol come on teamwin (the good people behind the temp root) the EVO needs your help

It's the tablet that's on par with the evo 3d in specs, and was released shortly before. Probably has some of the same programming as the evo 3d and the sensation.
Regardless, there are plenty of devs working on finding root for the evo, but it's not something tangible and it takes a lot of time and hard work. Sit back and be patient, and root will be found.

[Q] EVO not permanent root

What?!? I have read in several places that the EVO doesn't support "permanent" root.
First of all, technically what does that mean?
Second, what does it mean for a "lover of ROOTed EVOs" like my self??
Just a little confused and worried now...lol
Sent from the MATRIX... while plugged into my EVO... using the XDA app... from a galaxy far-far away.......
Could you link some of the places that you heard this? The original unrevoked 1 was a on phone app that was not permanent. I think it might mean you can unroot if you choose to. Not sure though. There is defietally permanent root.
Well if it's not permanent it is sure lasting me a long time. Like 6 months now. How much longer do you think I have before my root runs out? Please answer this is very important.

I'm new to the whole rooting thing and I wasnt sure what it meant... I will try to find the places I read that... I know one was in the market for a one click root app... And when I saw that I googled it but couldn't find anything conclusive....ghats why I thought I would ask the experts here

hehe sorry. We absolutely have permanent root. Like The Dude said, the original unrevoked was not permanent but every method since has been permanent. I'm sure whatever you read was old and/or possibly misinterpreted. Rest assured, your root is permanent and will not run out any time soon
Cool... I didn't think it meant it would run out, but it tricked me into thinking that something could happen...

I think he's talking about z4root which isn't permanent with the Evo due to requiring Nand unlock.

What's best way r00t for new Evo

Well I've read through the wiki and I'm still lost... what's the best way to root a new Evo for 004 hardware? I've been told Unrevoked is good but I've also read threads that it doesn't work with 004. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I heard they updated unrevoked to root 004.
Search the dev section. You will find the root guide.

it is not the easiest way.. but it will teach you want you are doing at each step and why.
uses unrevoked and amon_ra
these are solid.. and will be great for future mods.
Unrevoke is the easy way off rooting, but make sure to have hboot drivers install( windows only) before rooting
sent from my evil evo!!
No worries
I use Unrevoked all the time and it works flawlessly on Hardware 2 through 4 phones. Just make sure you download the latest version at:
http://unrevoked.com/#evo
Other methods as mentioned above work too but can be somewhat complicated. In the end, they all use Unrevoked to achieve S-OFF.
Add one more vote for Unrevoked.

the all in one root method. search the dev section for it. very easy & simple.
Ha... I'm familiar with Adb, have Android SDK setup on ubuntu and windows, but the sheer amount of info here for the Evo, its overwhelming, a lot of defunct procedures and conflicting info, I just didn't want to start down the wrong path. I'm seriously considering getting the Thunderbolt, I'm in the 30 day trial with Sprint and although I like the Evo with all the development here, the Thunderbolt is looking
awfully appealing... Cheers to everyone for your assistance...

[Q] Shift temp root -and no evo 4g

EVO Shift Temp Root for 2.3.3 Newst OTA [8/04/2011]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185243
SO IS OUR EVO 4G NEXT??? TEMP ROOT
I still try to stay calm dont get me wrong, and I am in hopes that someday they will find a way to root the evo 4g 2.3.3 OTA... but are they living us for last??
You really can't draw any connections between one device getting root and another device, even if they're similar. Yes, often a single fix will work across multiple devices. But it all comes down to where the exploit is. If the fix is in common bootloader code or something within general Android code, yes, it can often be reused. If the exploit for the Shift is in Sense 2.1, for example, it's meaningless to the Evo 4G. It's just the way it is...can't exploit what's not there.
I don't actually know anything about what exploit they've found on the Shift and what it might mean for us. I'm just saying that the "Device X has been rooted, why not Device Y" threads aren't that useful. I'm sure that if an exploit was re-usable, the folks working on the Evo would know about it.

we really need the source for that fr3vo binary... teamwin please??
The fr3vo exploit uses a certain address in the kernel to exploit, the Evo 4G does not have any of the exploitable addresses and the Shift just happened too. Therefore, fr3vo is not as easily applied to the OG Evo, and hence why our dear friend Agrabren is working on porting the exploit another way. Patience my friends.
I'm trying to but the suspense is killing me ..lol

I'm just waiting for the device to arrive. I don't have cost associated with it except time. So I'd ask donations to wait for me till we have perm-root. Yup. That's pretty much in a nutshell how these things work around here. No sense in getting particularly agitated about it, if nothing else this may be a good chance to take a breather from the site for a bit while things settle down. At the very least just stick to the development forum to keep tabs on the latest roms and kernels.
