Wifi issues after 3.1...possibly 2nd remedy - Acer Iconia A500

I posted this at another site. Hope it helps.
With GB 3.1, alot of people are experiencing Wifi connection issues when moving to a new location. While there is a double reset option some suggest, I haven't had any issues when I follow this simple procedure. Yes, one day it may stop working, but for now, ever since 3.1 I've never had an issue.
First let me say my device has never been rooted, nor is it now.
I'm on the OTA 3.1. It's a Costco 32gig model. ($429 just got my refund )
What have I done? Well, if I know I'm NOT leaving a location with Wifi connection, I will let the unit go to sleep, and never lose wifi on wakening.
If I know I'm taking it to a NEW location, I POWER OFF the tablet, and when arrive at new location turn it back on.
That's it. No resets, no carrying it around in sleep mode.
Putting in Airplane mode instead of turning off might work too, haven't tried it yet!
Good project for someone else.
REMEMBER I'M NOT ROOTED!
Hope you have as much luck with this as I have. Sharing it will probably jinx me.

Leaked 2.2 Data Connectivity Issues

I like many followed the instructions on the Leaked 2.2 to install Froyo.
I performing the rooted instructions requiring me to upgrade to Baseband version and verify that it's 2.05.00.06.11. This went fine and I successfully installed 2.2.
I noticed that I was having real connectivity issues. My bars would drop and connection would seem to cease. I often went from 3g to 1x connectivity and my apps could not connect without a reboot.
I reverted back to 2.1 but it kept the same baseband version 2.05.00.06.11.
I am still having the same connectivity issues.
So far I have seen people suggest dialing *288 to update the towers but that didnt work.
Other say toggling airplane mode fixed it for them. This is not a consistent fix for me.
Please add information here so we can try and find a fix.
I updated mine to the leaked 2.2 yesterday and I did lose my 3G for a few hours. I started to troubleshoot afterwards and toggling airplane mode would restore my 3g connectivity. I haven't noticed anything else that is troublesome so far, however, I am also missing some apps in the market.

There is a fix for the market problem -
I am trying to keep this thread about the connectivity issues. I suspect the firmware update did something bad. I am not running any roms or updates.
I'll have to try toggling airplane mode, I haven't tried that.
Yeah, I'm having issues too, also video recording has stopped working.

Not real sure if this is the same problem or not, but i'll post it here and we'll see. My phone seemed to have ZERO issues yesterday after the move to 2.2. Everything was working great (related to connections)
This morning, my alarm (on the phone) went off at 6:15am and I swiped it and got up, went and took a shower. While I was coming out I heard "Droid..." and was like, well that sux, a random reboot. A couple minutes later I came over to it and it was on the lock screen and the screen was dim like it was about to turn back off. I touched it to swipe and it was locked up and rebooted a second or so later.
Each time it came up, I had an X next to my signal meter and no WIFI or Data indicators. The process "system" kept dying and eventually causing the phone to reboot. I tried going into airplane mode / coming back out, but nothing.
As a last resort (so I could go to work) was to shut it down gracefully (reboots wouldn't let me get to hboot). And go and do a nandroid of the current setup and restore to yesterday right after I switched to 2.2.
After the nandroid finished I went ahead and rebooted it w/o a restore. This time the phone booted normally, no FC's and it's been running since then w/o any connection/reboot issues.
Obviously I'll be paying attention to this. It is actually nice having the "Droid..." so I know when it reboots

I havent had issue with the system process dying and rebooting. Just the incredibly annoying fluctuations in the bars and connectivity.
I would go to use my gTalk or gMail and it would say no internet connection. Or if you open the browser. Same thing.

No data
I updated the radio as well as the leaked 2.2 ROM. I now can't get any data. It will say there is a 3G connection but the market, Gmail, browser won't work. I was previously able to get data I haven't changed anything since.
I thought my data issue was using the Hybrid Altell/VZW prl, but after a *228 option 2 I am still having an issue. It seems to be when I shutdown the phone, turn it back on, the mobile data connection will not turn on. Toggling airplane mode will fix it, or sometimes a reboot fixes it.
Also having 3g/1x/no data issues post update to 2.2
Upgraded 8PM last night, all good until about 10am this morning, realized none of my apps were sync'd, then tried to use Opera/Market/Etc. all saying connectivity issues. The airplane mode on/off seems to fix it, wondering if its a select few and we should reflash or people are experiencing this across the board...

I had nearly the exact same thing happen to me. Flashed last night and then noticed the problem early today. A reboot of my phone fixed things; I'll continue to watch things closely.
Just got this for the first time as well.
I was just doing some configuration and needed to reboot - after doing so I did not have 3G and mobile network was ON in the settings.
Toggled to airplane mode and restarded - switched back after startup and 3G is back... but still this is troubling (I don't want there to be ANY problems haha)
All my Issues fixed with link @ bottom, thanks adrynalyne!

I am trying SkyRaiders rom to see if theres any improvements. I am on WiFi and its been working good so far. I will know more tomorrow.
Are you just getting the slow downs/disconnects on cell or also on WiFi? I had some weird WiFi issues last night so I thought it was both. Are you all getting it on all data connections or just the mobile network?
Make sure System Select in Mobile Network settings is on Home Only. I did this and I've had zero data connectivity issues with the leak. Had them when it was on Automatic.
Try it out.
I will join in and say I am also loosing 3G...it would be fine for a little then disappear for a while...toggling wifi and airplane mode helps, but I want it fixed and not have to rely on those.
Seems that Sky Raiders Rom has fixed the issues for me.

Which version? I am using 2.00 and I am having 3G connectivity issues. When I set my mobile networks from automatic to home, I only connect at 1X instead of 3G.
Is this fixed in Sky Raider 2.01?
UPDATE: I should have stated my original problem which was my 3G data connection was shutting down at random and the only way to get it back was to go in and out of airplane mode. I also JUST NOW updated to Sky Raider 2.01 and see that I don't have and data connection at present. A reboot did not work either. I'll keep trying things...
UPDATE2: Got it working...for some reason it was turned off in settings. Appears to be working fine now. I haven't seen any disconnects yet. Fingers crossed...
UPDATE3: It started doing it again under Sky Raider version 2.01. Don't know whether it's the new v2 radio or something with Froyo...

It is beginning to look like maybe this is a radio (2.05.00.06.11) problem an not a OS issue. But what I don't understand is why more people have not complained. I do live in a fringe signal area for 3G, perhaps that has something to do with triggering this problem. But I too have found that toggling airplane mode isn't a consistent fix.
If this is indeed a radio issue, then we may have to just live with it until a new radio version is released. Perhaps it would help if more people came forward and shared their experiences about this alleged problem. If it is only a few of us, then what might we have in common???

See here, 99% sure has to do with WiFi. I've been turning off WiFi before I leave the WiFi area I'm connected to and I've yet to loose data connectivity.
If this is all there is, I have a fully working 2.2 on my DInc now...don't really see a reason to upgrade to the official!

My problems with DVP? help me fix

Im looking for fixes for my issues with the DVP.
First off I have 2 apps that wont download or update. I have an ilomilo update will not update unless using the wifi or connecting to the PC. The sims 3 is the same way. Trying to use wifi doesnt work and tends to lock up and needs a battery pull. Connecting to the PC doesnt do anything and havent figured out to sync apps doing so without buying from the marketplace from the PC.
Lately I have been witness some lag and hesitation for some reason, not sure if its going between 3g and Edge. But today i noticed it bad and was wondering if there is any fix for this. To further explain my situation i may be texting a message and it takes about 5 seconds for the first letter to come up then its fine. Not sure if anyone else has witnessed this issue. I cycled the phone off then on and hoped this fixed it. Havent really witnessed it after that.
Is their any fix for my issues I really need my apps to download and clear off because i paid for the Sims 3 and havent even played it yet.
i'd contact Dell and request a replacement, your phone shouldn't lock up when WIFI is enabled, it could be a hardware issue.
im on the phone with Dell now, I told him to send me a replacement.
But he also said Dell is working on an update to fix the WIFI issue whih is suppose to be released this Month.
Lets see if they actually replace my device or deny me, the guy said he had to talk to his manager
Well I figured out one of my problems but its still a problem they have to fix. I found out I cant let the phone sleep while trying to update apps or download big apps over WIFI. Weird, but thats the only way i could download stuff that was in quen

That seems to be a common issue. If I let my phone go into standby while installing an app it will often not come out of sleep.
exactly what i was running into. They need to fix that, i dont want to keep my screen active while while the app downloads

[Q] Should I exchange my TF? (wifi issue)

On the 4 networks I have so far connected to, I've noticed the TF will lose internet after being idle for a time. I'm not sure how long it needs to lose the connectivity.
It shows as still connected but the icon is grey instead of blue and I can't access anything on the internet.
In order to fix it, I have to disconnect and reconnect (or go to airplane mode and back), then it works perfectly again.
I have "never" checked in the options on wifi connection.
Is this a hardware issue? Should I exchange it? My window for exchange to BB ends Friday.
Here's hoping for an easy fix that I don't know about
have u reset it to factory? Not sure it would fix it. But worth a try. Before u return it.
* I have seen the wireless go gray. But it comes back to blue bars
Thanks,
I tried that and it didn't work
I returned it to BB for a full refund. Going to go with the Galaxy 10.1.

I'm a bit late with this but, settings, wireless and networks, wifi disconnection policy and then stick it on "Never" which as it say's,will eat your battery quicker but might have solved the issue for you. now all I need to figure out is why I can't connect mine to my HD2's hotspot
I didn't try adjusting Wi-Fi policy and stay with default "Never", and my battery lasts well 2 days with my moderate use (I don't know what a normal battery life on this thing should be), though I haven't tried any movies yet.
i had the same wifi issue but the last OTA update fixed it. it reconnects everytime from idle now
I'm having the same problem, the $100 difference is too big to make me switch. And 3.1 had wifi driver updates, which may be the reason why it has been the problem for me since 3.1.
Software issue
This is well recognized problem.

I still haven't seen a solution. Hopefully a software update will solve this.

[Q] Can't ping device the instant the screen is off, grey bars of 3g

The existing issue around is mostly about the phone in deep sleep not receiving any notifications.
My problem is, I can ping the device as long as the screen is on, the second it is turned off and I hear the lock sound, I can't ping my N4 at all (host unreachable). My question is, is this the issue already existing? and is there no way to fix this at all without rooting?
Note: I can ping my Galaxy tab 2 anytime even in deep sleep.. N4 just disconnects ....also wifi is set to always on
I can't receive any Viber calls on Wifi if screen is off, FB notifications are always late, Gmail notifications come when the phone is in deep sleep and always late. Can someone clarify this issue please.
I tried Advanced Wifi Lock, worked for the first ~15 mins even though I couldn't ping the device...
Also, sometimes when I turn on the screen I see the cell and wifi bars grey then turn blue afterwards..
Thanks!

if you'd rather not root, then you'll have to wait for the 4.3 update to get pushed out and hope that google has addressed this glaring issue with the update.
Apparently that is what i will do... hopefully that will be soon
speculation is that 4.3 could be released tomorrow.
both "google edition" phones (the htc one and samsung galaxy s4) are to go on sale on the play store tomorrow, so some folks believe we may see the 4.3 release tomorrow as well.
that being said, i wouldn't hold your breath. we'll get it when we get it.
haha! I'm not sleeping tonight!!! XD
my apologies, but i had a brain fart when i made my last post. the google edition phones aren't set to go on sale until june 26th. i don't know why i was thinking the 20th. maybe you should get some sleep after all.

Samsung Tab A (SM-T285) Wifi constantly disconnecting-reconnecting

Hello Guys, I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask something like this, so apologies if I'm asking in the wrong place, but I've searched a lot the past days and haven't found a solution yet :/
Less than a week ago, I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab A6 (SM-T285) 7" LTE, and pretty much since day one, the tablet keeps disconnecting and reconnecting on every wi-fi I tried so far (3-4 different networks). I lose my connection for a couple seconds, causing any app running to lag a bit, then the notification that I have been connected to (the same) wi-fi comes up, and it starts working again. I googled a bit and tried using WPS button, Keep Wifi on during sleep, always allow scanning, even turned flight mode on, but the problem remains. Also, googling usually returned solutions that were aimed towards the router, although I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the tablet, since it's not just on one router. I'm at a loss on how to fix this and the only thing I can compe up with atm is to try a factory reset, which is weird, since the problem was with the tablet literally from the beggining. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance

I haven't really encountered that problem on my device. If you still have problems with the device after factory reset I suggest you try to get a replacement and see if it fixes it. You can also test if the problem goes away if your device is the only one connected to the router or setup a static IP. You can also post a logcat during the interruption so that we can get a better a handle on what is happening.

Try to re-flash your firmware and then install root. There is an application that grasps the Wi-Fi, so it doesn't disconnect and reconnect everytime.

Also, if you don't want to root and just stay in stock firmware, then go to this link (it is from a Samsung Moderator and yes, it is official): http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...7407616!1470947554734&from_osc=&homeid=342384
Solution brief statement:
- disable Connectivity Monitor and Wireless Uplink
- set the AP is set on fixed channels
- run the lastest stable upgrade of both AP and Controller

Never mind got it working by using a different browser.
Thanks for posting it, but Samsung's 'solution' [emoji55] is to simply disconnect and reconnect the wifi which I have already tried.
It's related to the device not the network as I don't have any issue with any of my other devices on the same network.
Maybe if they'd release some source code that actually worked I might be able to do something about it instead of them refusing my request.

Mine too. I have the T280, Best Buy has the T350 for $20 more. Has dual band wifi. Might try exchange it, but I rooted it already. Can I go back to stock without them knowing?
I was dealing with this issue although it was never more than an annoyance because it never actually interrupted my wifi connection, it just showed the little toast message that said it reconnected
I somehow magically got the device to stop doing this and I don't know exactly what fixed it, but I think the step that did it was flashing the stock firmware to the device. After that, it never seemed to have the annoying bug again.
The other things that could have done it relate to installing root and using Link2SD to disable some bloatware and moving all user apps to the SD card, but my guess is the fix came from flashing the stock ROM
I have the same problem with SM-T280 (T280XXU0AQA4), tried many wireless network and I have always disconnections. There is a solution for this problem?

Also for me since day 1
I have the exact same issue with my A6 10.1.
Posted about it a while back, I tried a factory reset, i tried clearing the cache. I took it to the service centre who did a complete software rebuild. I reset my router to factory and gave the tablet a static ip address. In the end I got a replacement, the replacement has the exact same issue. A friend bought the tablet the same day I did and has the exact same issue, they also got a replacement, their replacement also has the issue. So that's 4 out of 4.
Samsung couldn't care less, I've called customer service who suggested taking it to the service centre or getting a replacement, both things I've done. I've emailed and received nothing but generic cut and paste replies telling me to factory reset and clear the cache partition. I'm over my 30 days and can't return it. So I have a lovely paper weight and I'm back to using my iPad 3 because it may be slow as anything but at least it stays connected to wifi.

It may not be Samsung's problem but the place where you bought your tablet from. You might have to reflash it to stock (the ODIN way or the Samsung Smart Switch way). Some stores refurbish items and just take the same item repackage after thinking that it is okay to use because they just hook up the tablet to the computer without it actually connecting to the wifi.
If you want to do the ODIN way, you should try going to www.updato.com and find your software and device number and install it. There will be a guide there.
If you want to do the Samsung Smart Switch way, just go download it for the PC and it should tell you how to do it. (YOU NEED YOUR DEVICE NUMBER AND SERIAL NUMBER!)
Or if it still doesn't connect online, it might be because the host file is messed up. It is located in ./system/etc./host
I'm not sure but you should be able to find it through ES File Explorer.

Thanks but I took it to the local service centre who reflashed the firmware and it made no difference. Support told me it's a known software issue but they don't know when or even if a fix will be released.
It connects to the wifi fine, it just drops connection constantly, it shows as connected and I'm sat less then three feet from my router but try streaming or opening play store and it says no connection retry. Then you have to wait until it decides to work again, sometimes that's seconds, sometimes a few minutes. Sometimes you have to manually disconnect and reconnect wifi or turn the device off then back on. Rince and repeat.
I'll download smart switch and give it a go but I don't see it helping to be honest.

Try rooting your device and then check your hosts file and fix it. Sometimes, after when I installed Freedom (In-App purchase hack) it updates the Host file to disable it to connecting to the Internet. It should only say 127.0.0.1 Host, not something like app referrer: 108.xxx.xxx

Thanks but I honest'y can't be bothered with it anymore. As I said myself and a friend got the same tablet, we've both had the same issues, we both got replacements, both the replacements have the exact same issue and I assume it's massively unlikely all 4 tablets have host file issues. I've wasted hours of my life on this (resetting my router to factory for some reason caused my wifi printer to flail which took 4 days to fix). I've not rooted it and haven't installed anything that should mess with the host file.
I may change my mind and give it a go one day when I'm bored. I assume rooting doesn't invalidate the warranty/trip the knox etc?
I ran smart switch last night, backed up, reinstalled the sofrware then restored from backup. Only the backup didn't restore all the app settings, so it removed all the progress on the games I had been playing.

Root does trip your warranty and it is a pain in the but when you are trying to install applications like Oasis's Island app because it knows if you had a "modified" OS. So, you have to be careful on what kind of application you still want to use.
If you can get another replacement or exchange, reset your device and then hand in to the store for a SM-T350 or some other device.
I know that SM-T350's are good for games and other content like watching videos.
Hope I helped and I wish you the best of luck.
The T280/T285 doesn't have knox, so nothing to trip.
Can confirm reflashing stock did not fix it on my t280. Starting to think the only fix is to get a different tablet...
