Hi everyone
I am planning to build Sony ericsson community in google+, so we can share news, ideas, opinions, and suggestions that with large numbers we can deliver to SE and they might provide it to us (as you know SE starts to listen to their customers a while ago). This is similar to blog but can be easily access on the go along with so many features offered by google+ like making votes, sharing ... etc. And everyone can contribute (everyone can post whatever topic he/she think that it is interesting regarding Sony ericsson or any other phone).
if anyone is interested, please leave your Google+ account and I will invite you to special circle called Sony Ericsson community.
my google profile is in here
https://profiles.google.com/113070422033274639984
please note; this is not an invite to join googls+. it is invite to build sony ericsson community to share news, ideas, opinions and suggestions
I will invite everyone
Good luck with that one mate. Maybe if you took out the fanboy bit you might get a few responses. Call it google + SE network or something else, just ditch the fanboy bit.
well, it will be called Sony ericsson community
I am not sure if fanboy make any offense to anyone

Hi there,
Many people seem to think that a circle is like a group in Facebook. Unfortunately, it isn't. If you add someone to your circle it doesn't mean that they have added you to theirs. For example, if you add 20 people to your 'SE Fanboy' circle, you will be able to view posts from those 20 people in your circle, but unless all those 20 people add the other 19 people to their own circle, it doesn't do much. Your circle is only visible to you; and I think other people can see the first 21 people in your circle
Regardless, add me! gplus.to/rahul
yes you are right, but I am sure that they will figure a way for this. you know that it is just launched and they are listening to people's opinion to improve their service. I already contacted their one of there employee and she said that they have received several inquiries regarding this and they are looking into it.
in the meantime, I will just keep building SE community and will reshare all the news I get from everyone and we still can see each others comments and communicate with each other (through me for now)
BTW, anyone want an invite please do send your email as well
Yeah nice idea but a bit fanboy. What's the point of a circle when SE is updating their blog site? They listen to the comments on their blog.

I think our petitions/forums made them update the x10.
thats right, our petition and forums, not their blog
if we have an issue that have no topic on their blog, what can we do? we can make our own thread and talk about it and everyone say his/her opinion, then they will lestien to us.
in addition to that, we can discuss other phones and features that are not in SE phones yet for example SGS II
in nut shell, its our own blog and we can write and discuss whatever we want, not just reply to topics
https://plus.google.com/113439242679072612298
we are now over 150 members and keep growing
(ofcourse cannot be compared with over 2000 for xda, but keep in mind that xda has too many manufacturers and has long great history, go xda and we have started couple of days ago, we will reach 1000 members very shortly
however, I have received many PMs asking me to put my google account so they can add me, I will put mine in the main post so if anyone is interested add me and I will add you asap
see you there
I have to be 18 to join Google+ unfortunately...
Please confirm why the Profile not longer available ??
my account is temporarely suspended for violating the community standers, which I have no idea what does it mean.
and will be reactivated very soon, pm me your account and I will invite you asap

Hello Guys,
My name is John, I recently became the social media analyst at Samsung mobile. I wanted to start opening the lines of communication between XDA and Samsung. First I wanted to say I have noticed your work on our devices on the XDA forums. I think you guys do an outstanding job, I myself am a developer for mobile devices. So let’s get down to business, we’re going to be in Austin from March 10-15 for the SXSW(south by southwest http://sxsw.com/convention). I was wondering if any of you guys are going so that we could meet up and share a couple of ideas I have. I am looking forward to meeting some of you GREAT developers!
Thanks in advance,
John

Welcome! I'm curious to know what a "social media analyst" does.
Hi John. I'm surprised this thread isn't a little more lively.

Hey SamsungJohn, could you please tell Samsung to make a device like the Xperia Play?

Sounds like he gets paid to stalk people on Facebook! I want a job like that! Oh wait, I kind of get to do that already except my employer doesn't know about it. In all seriousness there needs to be more communication between manufacturers and developers and even users. So many times it seems like someone who is sitting in an office disconnected from the world is the one making decisions. I hope this does become a positive thing and not just some PR BS that one of those people sitting in that isolated offices came up with to try and quiet down the natives because the have became restless and the shouts are starting to be heard inside the palace walls. Time will tell.
Welcome!

lol I'm tempted, but I don't want to get flamed haha.
Anyway, welcome John! It's good to know that we can get somewhat of a direct communication toward Samsung because this community does have a lot to offer (and a lot of complaining).
Hope we can help.

I might get flamed for this, but I think this post would actually be better off in the Development forum. I don't think a lot of the developers spend time reading general because of all the drama and arguing that tends to go on here. Maybe a mod can make a judgment call and move it over there.
Hey where is the froyo source john? I had to ask.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Well, if you are really the social media analyst, let me sum up what social media should have told you already.
-We want greater communication from Samsung/Sprint with regards to updates. We don't need solid dates, but we would like to know that you are working on it and a general idea where/what is going on.
-We would like for you to upgrade our phones to Froyo and then to Gingerbread.
-We would like for you to enable this:http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/10/immersions-motiv-development-platform-integrates-haptics-into-a/
since our phones are capable of it but do not currently have the software needed.
That pretty much sums up everything. We know you aren't going to dropping Touch Wiz. We know you aren't going to be porting Honeycomb to our devices. We just want greater communication and for Samsung to start treating this phone as if they actually thought it was important to them.
Hi John, Lets get down to buisness...... We need the source code for the modem, without that there is no buisness here. Thankyou

Why should it be?
People for the most part, at least those that post on the various forums out there, don't really care anymore for Samsung than they do for Sprint at the moment for the lack of care on putting out updates to the Epic 4g. Sure an official Froyo update would be nice, but most Epic 4g owners have given up hope and aren't holding their breath for any update. Thank you Samsung, and Sprint!

So you understand that the biggest thing we need is access to the kernel source code?
Good, now go tell your boss, and his/her boss.
Tell them that they need to do whatever is necessary to get this released.
They are generating a whole lot of angry customers because of their total lack of support.
We've had some decent advancements despite not having source code.
The title of this thread explains it.

My suggestion for you to get more attention to this partnership with XDA is to look in the Development section for the Epic and Private Message those who make the ROMs.

Hi Guys,
I am working with briandevlin(http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3144157) and shedrule over at the X10 forums, to try and get more people from XDA into Google +. If you need an invite, please PM me or briandevlin and we will invite you asap
(In your pm, please include your Name and Gmail address, otherwise the invite will not go through)
Thanks!
Edit: Just to be clear, there is no official invite method for now, I am trying it through a loophole. Some of the people I invited got it, and when they clicked the link it told them it had exceeded capacity, but it did not work for most people.
Nevertheless, I can still try if you want me to, just dont be disappointed if it doesn't work.
I'm sure they will open it up soon enough.
For those of you who are already in, I'm @ gplus.to/rahul . Add me!
Further Update:
It looks like it is opening up to more people now. Head over to the Google Plus webpage and if you're lucky you will be able to sign up (not sure if this requires invite yet)
Update 2: Looks like it is open to the public for now. (Not for long)

Hey Google+ folks!
As I bet you've noticed, we are facing pretty incredible demand for Google+ invites.
As Engineering Director of Google+, I wanted to take a moment to explain why we're growing the system slowly. First, we want to make sure our infrastructure scales so the service remains fast and reliable. Second, we want to ensure that bugs are fixed while there are still a relatively few people in the field trial.
Things are going well with the systems right now so we feel comfortable enough to open up invites for a brief period. Our goal is to double the user base in the field trial. (Sorry, we're not giving details about how many folks are in the field trial yet).
So, in a few minutes, we'll open up invites again.
We continue to throttle invites, so please don't mass invite folks as it won't work. If you invite a handful of your most important friends and family you're much more likely to get these folks into our system.
Thanks again for providing so much wonderful feedback!"
What's the sense. There is Facebook and Twitter.
Ok looks like more people are slowly getting invites. For those who've pm-ed me, be patient, I've invited all of you, it will come in time
Edit: Refer to first post

The Android App is really great
Sorry but there are far too many threads on this subject.
Hello XDA members,
So you all know that our phone that is the Samsung Galaxy 3 came with Android 2.1 aka Eclair and Samsung promised to give an upgrade to 2.2 aka Froyo. The Samsung has fulfilled its promise of Froyo upgrade and now I think the Samsung will never look back to our Galaxy 3. Our phone has already been of an old generation of Galaxy 3 but still it features almost equally attractive features when compared to other low end Galaxy Series phones like Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Pop, infact its better certainly. But now there is no scope of getting an Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread upgrade on our Galaxy whereas similar phones like Fit are expected to receive it soon. Here on XDA also Marcellusbe tried to port CM7 with 2.3.4, he released Alpha 5 Fix 1 and since then he stopped the Development for CM6 port which he thinks would help in CM7. Looking at current conditions we cant even hope of Unofficial CM7 i.e. 2.3.4 by the end of a year or so.There is very slim chance of even getting it because it is difficult for Marcellusbe to work alone. These kinds of project involves a big team.
The Group GINGERBRDFORG3 is formed with the aim to gather support of other Galaxy 3 users to convince Samsung to give an official upgrade to Galaxy 3. Samsung cannot neglect the demands of thousands of its customer. Just think there are lots of Galaxy 3 members, If we all together will request Samsung I am pretty sure that Samsung will release a upgrade. If it can run on Fit it would easily run on Galaxy 3. Our phone has a huge market. If Samsung releases an upgrade to 2.3 and increases the life cycle of Galaxy 3 there will be no harm only a Win-Win situation for both Samsung and us.
Just think on it twice. I know if all of you will support we will soon be able to convince Samsung. To do so just be a part of GINGERBRDFORG3, sign the petitions, tweet on official twitter handle and recommend friends. Its free, simple and can be done in seconds. If all of you give just 15 minutes to this group we can work out wonders.

First request to Samsung has been posted via Twitter and Facebook. Stay connected to know more.
If this is going to work thenI want to support it but I'm almost 100% sure that this wont.
if you gather enough people this will work, but you will need around 40,000-50,000 people
htc decided to develop GB for the desire as well by demand of the community, but they were a hell lot of people...
what you need is some sort of a petition site where people can sign the claim of gingerbread for the galaxy 3 and then you need enough people to sign it.
Yes dude thats from where I draw inspiration - The Case Of HTC Desire. We can do everything, we have everything.. We can form faceook pages, we can form twitter accounts we can use petition sites which are available but What we lack is Supporters. Even after such a long request no one has come up to support. Though the thread has 45 views only including you only 2 people replied without much enthusiasm? Can anyone help to gather people here im 99.99% sure that we can do this..
The same thing happened with sony ericsson xperia x10 where due to huge demand sony decided to give gingerbread .thumbs up I am supporting this.
If you support this Kindly use the links to Sign the Petitons and also follow the official twitter account and post messages so that samsung can see that we really want 2.3.. Also suggest your friends and family.. Please. Its a request.

First I read "do not overclock"..... what has it to do with gingerbread?
just signed the partition
But i have my doubts:

Signed both........
maybe you should post the links in the official CM7 forum, samsung forum and on every forum you find on the topic to get some more people.
there's a facebook page for gingerbread for the G3 but it only has some hundred followers.
maybe you get some blogs or news sites to post it in a news as well...
you have to do evereything to promote them, otherwise you won't have chance to get enough people.
and you should only use one petition, to concentrate the amount of people.
if you have two petitions, some people will only sign one of them, which will degrade the total number you get.
Go!! 2.3 Go!!
I have signed the 1st petition Lets make a Riot..

I have removed petition 1ST. Those who signed only the 1st petition are requested to visit the link to petition and sign it again. Those who signed the 2nd petition no need to revisit because the current petition is what you had in 2nd petition previously. Sony Ericsson forces us to close XperiaBlog.net
by XB on October 19, 2011
in News
It is with great sadness that we have to bring you the news that this will be the last post on this website. Sony Ericsson has filed a formal complaint about the use of the trademarked ‘Xperia’ name in our domain name and have requested that the domain names, including that of XperiaX10.net, be transferred to them.
Sony Ericsson is alleging that we have used the domain names in “bad faith”. We are stunned and disappointed that Sony Ericsson, a company that we have spent much of our free personal time in promoting, especially the Xperia brand, has decided to take this formal action against us. After all we are just like you, passionate Sony Ericsson users, who have strived to bring the community breaking news and an independent viewpoint.
We do not have the resources to fight Sony Ericsson on this and therefore this is the last you will hear from us. Sony Ericsson has made great strides in its Xperia portfolio, especially in listening to the community. This makes it all the more confusing as to why Sony Ericsson would want to shut us down. We genuinely believe that 2012 could be a bumper year for the company, we just wish we could have been there along for the ride.
All the best.
Tej

Technically SE is correct, Xperia is their trade mark that they have registered no one is supposed to use it. But it's really bad that they are asking to shutdown after having such a success with the blog. If they had a problem with the blog they should told them when they started it.
Yeah i agree from a legal point of view it is very understandable, what SE could have done is taken control of the domains and the blog but kept the starter of the blog and others as moderators, that way they get their xperia name not being misused by unauthorised people but still have the blog going, plus consumers would still be happy as we would still have our beloved blog

Shame to SE for being hard on their fan base. But, legally can they do this? What if XperiaBlog is claimed as one word?

XperiaBlog has also written some critical posts about updates for the X10 etc. I don't think SE appreciated that.
Another bad turn when the site posted the comparison between Arc S and iPhone 4S when it should've just let the Chinese community handle it...

SE is always sensitive to what sites put down about their product. When you put out something that may reflect negatively, which it did against the Arc S in the camera comparison, it's not a surprised result. Since the site is also using Xperia in its name and actually damaging it's reputation (may be not alot, but it still does). Think about a scenario where I want to know more about the product. I found the site, oh hey, it has Xperia in it. Seems like a good site to find out good reviews. You step in, and you find criticism on it. Would you have a good impression on the product? I've worked on many club sites under SE, and many were closed down for the same reason.
Sites like Mobile-Review was also abandoned for the same reason, alot of premature conclusions and no filtering to what is posted. Not that I want press to censor their opinions, but some opinions/assertions were far from true.

Changing the name of the site would be easy but SE wants the domain name. Setting up another website with the same content would be time consuming and a major pain in the arse.
It's a shame considering all the effort they've put in maintaining it and updating it with the latest info.
And it's not like they were cyber-squatters or anything.
I don't think that stories like
http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/09/0...2-with-1-5ghz-dual-core-4-3-inch-720p-screen/
or
http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/10/1...icsson-walkman-w23i-with-dual-core-processor/
were perceived with pleasure over at SE's HQs... Still a shame though.

You step in, and you find criticism on it. Would you have a good impression on the product? I've worked on many club sites under SE, and many were closed down for the same reason.

Actually this is what happened to me when I first started looking for xperia info some time ago, I thought it was an official site so I was surprised to read some of the posts.
For that reason I can understand why SE have taken this action. On the other hand, theres no reason why xperiablog cannot start up under a fresh name, if they have so many followers already it wont be so hard to spread the word.
They could, but from my knowledge, there are 2 reasons they're demanding the close. First is to prevent any damage to their brand from the site, and the other is to demand the xperiablog domain. I'm sure xperiablog.com will be popping up soon from them, which they have the authority to do since the word "xperia" is their's to begin with. So to prevent any confusions for people who hit SHIFT+ENTER instead of CTRL+ENTER wouldn't be redirected to the wrong site.
I have posted a new thread at Sony Mobile Support requesting they support 2011 devices with KitKat, as apparently they announced they will update 2012 devices to kitkat.
Or, if Sony will not support the 2011 devices as they are beyond 18 months old, they should release the sources and let the dev community go to town.
Here is the thread at Sony Mobile Support, I would like all users to just take two minutes and voice your feedback in encouraging Sony to either update our PLAY or better yet, release all sources so that devs may do updates such as KitKat 4.4 to our PLAY.
Sony Mobile Support Thread:
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperi...Xperia-devices-Xperia-PLAY/m-p/430889#U430889
Thank you and please show your support through the link above, I have informed Sony of this thread but if you all can please kindly post your comments on the thread above. If Sony doesnt see the comments of encouragement then they wont see it as worth it, in either way.
Edit - I am leaning towards Sony releasing sources as this will cost them nothing or a lot less then paying staff to make the 4.4 software upgrade and beta test it. Sources would be a lot more feasible, plus it would allow everyone to benefit with full access to our PLAY.
EDIT 2 - From Big_Smile, he made a very good suggestion to better our chances:
"Also, it would be a good idea to post your messages on Sundar Pichai's Google plus as he is the head of Google Android.
In order to use Android with Google services, manufactures have to follow certain rules that Google makes.
We should ask Sundar Pichai to compel manufacturers to release source files for older devices.
You can see my post asking him to do this here:
https://plus.google.com/+SundarPichai/posts/74nXKEeeMRx
(I've used my name Madhu Sharma).
If you agree, please +1 my comment but also post your own comment as well.
Unlike contacting Sony, this probably does have a good chance of becoming a reality if lots of people participate. Google do tend to listen and if it happened, they would make more money as more people would have access to their services.
Again, it only takes a few minutes to participate and this really could make a difference for everyone."
Thank you Big_Smile.
I forgot to add a Poll for this thread, any chance to still add it? I dont see it as an option.. after I made the first post.
Edit - Got the POLL Running
One more thing:
If everyone can select to vote to have this thread detailed on XDA Portal to gain attention that would great. See attached photo if you are unsure how to vote this thread on XDA Portal.
I have contributed to the thread. I don't think it will do anything, but I think everyone should try.
It only takes a second (and you can login in with Gmail and Facebook, so you don't even need to set up an account).
You never know, if Sony gets a lot of requests, they will take action.
Also, post your message here as well:
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/contact-form/Other/en_GB/
Again, it probably won't do anything but it is worth a try and will only take a minute. Companies like Sony are always trying to find ways to show that they listen (as it earns them good publicity).

i doubt they will support it they wont support my xperia t which is 1.5ghz snapdragon s4 and 1gb of ram. this was their last 2012 flagship so they won't update any 2012 devices probably only 2013

At Big_Smile, that is an excellent idea and would stand a better chance then contacting Sony head on. I will add your suggestion to post 1 soon as I have a chance

Per Big_Smile's link to Sundar Pichai, I have added the following to his, please see attached.

Edit - Added this thread to my Google+ post reply to Big_Smile.
I think another good idea would to be raise this issue on "This Week in Google" (TWiG).
TWiG is a podcast about Google & Android, that is often viewed by people who work at Google.
I have made a post on the TWiG Google Plus Community:
https://plus.google.com/115434784269286841659/posts/4GQVrDtLhTV
If you agree with what I have written, please +1 it and add your own comments and ideas.
I think if the post got around 50 - 100 +1s, there's a good chance someone from the show might notice it and so might consider discuss it on the next episode.
Again, it's a long shot, but it would only take a few minutes to contribute and it could stand a good chance of making 4.4 available for not just the Xperia Play, but many other older phones. As I've discussed in my Plus post, this could help a lot of people (and not just Play users).
Unlike other companies, Google does listen, so if we raise this issue in lots of places, there's a good chance that they might act on it.
good ! waiting for ur news

I want ask all people, that want to post SUBJ request without stupid words to update firmwares for phones. Just ask to open ALL sources, so community can do all work.
I'm all for the sources but telling them to update a very outdated phone is a little much.

Do you think we should start a petition on change.org @OP?

Why ya keep asking for upgrade? IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Understand this already. Only thing, that *may* hapeen - opening sources of GB drivrs. Thats enough for communities of all old phones, so all people must focus on it, not on asking for upgrade, that, as said, WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

This is sony we are talking about who are the second worst manufacturer to give updates (lg is worst) they probably won't update their 2012 devices so what makes you think they will update the play.

There's nothing wrong with trying. YOU'LL NEVER KNOW THE ANSWER UNLESS YOU TRY. So all of you negas, go somewhere else. You're of no use here.
Just like sony wouldn't give ics to the play yet everyone asked for it

We are not negative, we are only realistic, it is absurd to think that a company will release an update (LOL) or the source code (double LOL) for a device of 2 years ago, it is against their interest.
BTW don't worry, probably I will go away, if I earn sufficient money to change both my laptop and the phone I will go away from the xplay this Christmas, if not sorry but this nega will remain for another year

Even if they are unlikely to listen, it only takes 2 minutes max to ask them, so it's worth a try. Anyone can spare 2 minutes.
Also, I think the best strategy is to ask Google to force manufacturers to release source code, as they have a financial incentive to do so (as it will further their interests of making Android less fragmented, easier to develop for and making the latest Google Play apps available to all).
