Battery - Atrix 4G General

We all have the battery jumping issue, let's see if we can get a team to fix it. I know there is another battery thread, but it is a quiet thread.

Vibrant and Stock 2.2 Build

Hey. First time poster, and new to android development. I have had the G1 and use the cyanogen mod, but with the new vibrant on order I am starting to look at what it can do. How hard and if it can be done, how, would one put a stock 2.2 build ( like whats on the N1 ) on the vibrant?
Dude there really isnt much to read as far as the vibrant goes, so if you would have read you would see the answer is no....lazy.
Ill admit it. Glanced at the first few posts and didn't think it was going to answer my question. But after reading through them, found several boards with the information. Thanks though
Just to let you know this weekend my whole entire purpose in life is going to be getting CM6 to run on the Vibrant

Looking forward to CM6. The touchwiz stuff doesn't really sell for me, nice but not needed. Really looking to see how CM6 with 2.2 Dalvik JIT runs on this phone. I am seeing fast and power in the future.
I've actually asked Cyanogen if he might work on CM for the Vibrant (seeing as I'm probably getting one and need CM!). He stated that the Vibrant and DroidX were at the top of the list of devices. Well, seeing the issues with the DroidX's bootloader and "e-fuse", the Vibrant is possible. He'll definitely be getting a donation from me once I have the Vibrant.
I'd post the tweets, but don't really have time.

Not trying to get anyone's hopes up, but.....chances are looking very good.
looks like thats still the vibrant build (look at the icons on the notification bar) with ADW running, so I'm not too hopeful yet!
Ah, very true. Didn't think of that.
First of all, yes, you will EVENTUALLY be able to put 2.2 on your Vibrant.
Second, this thread belongs in the general section.

i'm no fan of touchwiz either. for the mean time i'm using a home theme app called "launcher pro" which looks and operates just like froyo 2.2 minus the flash capabilities of course. runs very fast and smooth for what it is. i'll be running this until froyo actually comes out.

WANTED - A decent HD2 build

What happened to all the great builds? All the great ones are now outdated, but aren't being replaced with a better one. The closest thing I have to what I want is Darkstone 2.1, but the battery life sucks balls.
I want this:
Nexus One-based Froyo
NO SENSE... God I hate that keyboard.
Decent battery life. Seriously, DS 2.1's is pitiful.
Black status bar.
NO CYANOGEN
Sorry, I'm in a ranty mood, I realize that it's not easy to make a build or anything, and all the devs deserve credit for their work even if I think some of it is pure crap.
Anyway, where the hell is Dan at? His v1 Froyo was the best...
try Mattc's, that is the closest to waht you are looking for.
He is supposed to be releasing v1.7 in a few hours.

Completely agree... if he was at least donating and being in a pissy mud - I guess... but this way, try out every build like everyone else...
BTW - you will not get better battery life before Android goes onto Device Memory - why, it's because of SD CARD...

This isn't true - it might be part of the issue, but there are also problems with the drivers that are responsible for charging the battery in Android and I think that is really the main problem

Cyanogen is Vanilla, with tons of customizations (including the notifaction bar color) that you can apply yourself in the settings. Shu8i build is just themed.
Try one of the unthemed cyanogen versions like bangsters. even Shu81 has an unthemed version.

In addition, how many more threads are going to be opened in which the same has to be told? I mean, the OP is not even a newcomer in the XDA Community. for whatever situation he might be going through, that is not the way to ask for something. Have you even consider doing something for Android to work better? If your answer is NO, then sit, relax and shut up (no offense.) This is a community, not your house. I pointed this out in another thread. It seems some people believe that making roms for the community are the devs full time job, when in fact its a hobby and most do it with there spare time.
Look, it's just because it's surprising that the builds are declining in battery life, 7 hours on airplane mode and I lost 40%?? Seriously?

Offended me? It would hypocritical if I posted a rant about hard-working developers and in turn was sensitive myself. Anyway it's quite true what you've said, it's just the battery life is getting unbearably pitiful.
Sir Cyanogen isnt the theme that shu8i is using.
The theme is shiftedx's theme.
Cyanogen is a build based on asop with some addon's. Most of the addons are things that has caused the community grow.
~~> http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
As far as battery life. You do realize that the Hd2 was never ment to have android.
lets go back in time before dcordes decided to take on this project. I'd be a sad panda if he decided to stop trying.
Sir I think the best bet for you would be to create your own build.
Or if jesusfreke Would come back on the scene.
heres an idea. get a portable battery charger duracell makes them. They come in many different connection types. no matter what you do these days will batter life be fair. it's been written and proven. google it. theres an article out there battery life never gets the upgrade like other hardware and software upgrades do.

Yeah, but what you also have to remember is that developers are not mostly working on battery standards. instead, they are working to have every single function on the HD2 (including the hidden ones) working normally and then to perfect them. I think that is a nice plan

Almost all those builds are just original nexus one or htc desire rips. It is the kernel that makes those builds great mainly.
I think shubcraft and mattc are the most frequently updated builds and they are better than those old builds.
If you absolutely want vanilla, try shubcraft REALSTOCK from http://www.vbnfiles.com/xda/shu8i/
Since it does not contain sense, cyanogen is vanilla with improvements.
Cyanogen can change status bar color.
You can make those old builds you mention better with new kernel and modules from http://oe.netripper.com/files/htcleo_autobuild/?C=M;O=D (Since that is basically what you will get if newer versions of them are released)
I have %1 per hour standby battery drain with shubcraft (cyanogen) I can turn on/off anything from the power control widget. My Android does not use more battery then winmo when screen is on or off. Don't forget to kill apps with advanced task killer. Keep wifi bt gps data and preferably 3g off when you don't use. Don't use 100% backlight. You'll match my battery consumption. (Don't forget to disable autorotate from settings display to stop touch freezes)
There are almost 10 ten keyboards to choose from. You can install any keyboard you want. I recommend HTC_IME_MOD by jonas high resolution because it has volume keys as right left arrow function.

i know his roms all ways had GREAT battery life
What is the latest bakedsnak rom?
Is it version 1.8 thats listed on his site? Or is there something newer in the forum that I cannot access?
1.8 is the current version but he typically gives access to the beta/test version of the upcoming releases to donators a few days early. That whole thing has caused many arguments (which I have occasionally been sucked into) here so he doesn't maintain a thread here anymore.
For my part, I do use his ROMs and find them to be excellent. I just run the latest public release but I'm sure if I ever got impatient or antsy I would toss him $5 to support his work and site and get a sneak preview of the new versions a few days ahead of the rest.

If anybody's wondering, I have Baked 1.8 running on my evo right now. Battery life is unreal. Charged it right before i went to sleep and then left it unplugged overnight for about 8 hours and it was still at 100% when I woke up. Using the kernal that comes with the rom and no setcpu and am getting 54 fps in fps2d with 1.98 dev and about mid 1400s in quadrant. Coming from Evio's latest and I think I'm gonna stay with Baked for a while as the battery and benchmarks are easily better with Baked imo.
You can get Baked Snacks off of ROM Manager. Just download and enjoy.

Defy got CM7 Port

If the Defy can do it, why can't we? It has a locked bootloader too. I bet I sound pretty stupid because there is something I'm missing, but oh well...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654
A quick glance says that they're using update.zip files to clobber /system, so they're not touching the bootloader. So this should be doable, although I believe that our CWM could use some more work.

I wonder if he'd be willing to give some devs pointers. Or even attempt this himself

We'd have to port that before anything else...
He says something about Korean developers... Ah ha! That's what has been missing from this equation all along!
Yeh, you are probably right. And as next step would be understanding the current cm7 defy port and maybe try do to the same thing using cm7 harmony as a base.
I could try doing it, I'm a quite experienced java developer (6+ years) and wouldn't have problems learning it BUT, as I already sold my old Nexus One, Atrix is my current phone and I don't wanna risk it... =/

CM7 for ATRIX 4G before SGS2

I've been a fan of CM since the G1. It made it run like the n1 when it first came out lol pretty much. I have only tried beta CM7 when it first came out on the mytouch 4g so i probably have missed out alot, thats when i went to WP7 lol.
seeing as how samsung sent them an sgs2 I highly doubt it'll happen
Sent via the power of a unicorn's horn.
I'm getting my Atrix on Tuesday. I just switched over from Tmobile, figured i'd sign as a free agent before i got traded. Had an awesome MyTouch 4g. In my honest opinion it is sooo much better to have a dev create a build solely for your phone rather than go with CM. It's like being in a classroom with thousand's of students instead of being in a classroom with 10. You get much better support, quicker updates, and a better overall experience. Don't get me wrong, CM is great but I went with TeamRoyal who was only doing work on the MyTouch and they had 2.3.4 out quickly with Netflix working before CM was anywhere close to it. So i hope there is a Dev for the Atrix that is going to be working full time on a rom rather than waiting for CM.
I've said it in another thread, but yes, I would donate 15-20$ to a successful CM7 port project.

Yep, i was overwhelmed as well. In less than 24 hours we got, unlocked bootloader, full CWM, and a 2.3.4 rom. Supposedly, CM7 is also a work-in-progress.
If this rate of the development keeps we might actually edge sgs2 to a CM7 port.
pff I usually just read through these forums, but what the hell, Ill donate a decent amount too
I'm still not quite sure why so many people love CM7. Yes it a great ROM but I feel like the way it looks it just all right, and the new blur-themed 2.3.4 GB rom for the Atrix is a lot smoother.
