Phone got hot and won't turn ON anymore - Xperia Play General

Yo folks,
My bro's PLAY is on 2.3.3 [the latest update available here] which I had updated via SEUS. Today, after gaming a bit my bro told me that the battery dropped to 13% from well over 60-70%. Also, the phone was pretty hot...
I pulled the battery out and let it sit for over an hour. I then plugged in the battery, and now the Phone won't start - it just shows the blinking RED Led. Nothing on screen whatsoever. I don't think it's powering on at all.
Any idea what to do next, i'm pretty stumped
p.s. Phone is on stock firmware, unrooted.

well u could try another battery in there if thats possible
the xperia x10 has the same battery
so if u cant find some one with the same phone
u can use one of those

Thanks.. I actually have a X10 myself, but it's with my bro atm.. and i've come at another place earlier today for a couple of days with his PLAY.
I've plugged it in and it's still showing the blinking RED led. I'll wait and see what happens..

AFAIK the blinking red Light indicates the Battery is completley drained and does not have enought juice to turn the device on .. let it charge up a bit and see if it turns over.. then give the device a FULL charge .

Yeah... I have it hooked up to a charger for 2 hours now, still only blinking red led and not powering up.
Does it take that long?

try holding the power button down for like 15 seconds through multiple blinking red lights

Thanks.. did that now, but nothing happened - phone did not start up.
It's been hooked up to the wall charger for a little more than 2.5 hours now. Still only the steadily blinking red LED [led blinks every 5 seconds].
Any ideas? I'm starting to get worried

There is still warranty on it?

Yeah, my bro bought it like 3 months ago.

Only suggestion I have left is to take it to where you bought it and get it replaced under warranty.

If it's from a carrier call them and ask for a replacement mailed to you while it's being fixed cuz you don't want to use a different phone model.

Okay guys, I came back home, and charged the PLAY's battery upto 50% in my X10. So the PLAY now boots up & I also hooked it up to my machine and did a re-install of the 2.3.3 update. Now it's back to original state, with only the market logged in and my bro's contacts restored from SDcard.
However, it still does not charge as normal. It actually is DISCHARGING, instead of charging up when connected to the wall charger. And it still gets hot
Could it be a hardware fault?

did you try the x10 battery in the Play?

Yeah, with my X10's battery the PLAY booted up fine - but it was still getting very hot.
I had taken it to the dealer earlier today, but unfortunately the Sony Ericsson service center we have in my city was closed today because nobody showed up there due to heavy rains.
I have to go back there tomorrow... let's see.

Wish I could not show up to work because of rain

Try a different charger.

Well, the phone is at the service centre atm and they have kept the phone + charger [without battery tho].
They're going to reflash it n ****... I have to go back in a few hours to check the status.. wish me luck

Update : It is a hardware fault and I'm getting a replacement in 10-15 days. The service center asked me to leave the phone there and gave me a job sheet. The replacement phone will be sent to the dealer and i'll need to pick it up from him.

[Q] Doesn't boot past Motorola logo. Help, anyone?

Hi, yesterday I installed CM7 on my android, all went well, very awesome.
Soon the LED Light messed up when I would plug the phone in via usb.
The LED had colors that were like mixed and all.
Searched on Google, and found nothing... So I then did the whole process over (wiped data...) And near the last step I wiped data instead of wiping cache.
It was like 5 in the am and I got sleepy so when I restarted the phone(Of course it would take a while), I went to lie down, then fell asleep. Woke up and my phone was still at the Motorola Logo screen. I also seen that I forgot to put it on the charger before went to sleep.
Long story short, My phone won't get past the logo screen, I would try to go back to 2.2 sbf but when I get into the bootloader screen the battery low cannot program.. error comes up.
Yeah, I explained practically everything..
What can I do to get it back to normal, so I can get CM7 back?
I only got to enjoy 20 minutes of the rom...
My phone: Motorola Bravo
Service: AT&T
You need to charge your battery some how? Does it charge at all
Do you know someone with phone?
If not ask for a battery replacement from at&t store and hope it has enough charge

My thought on charging was when the phone is off and you charge it, it goes to the charging screen, then eventually the display turns off.
Instead of that, it just stays at the Motorola Logo screen..
I've also had it on the charger for about 4 hours now. Still remaining at the logo screen, BUT it has also gotten warm..Maybe that means its charging? (right??)
2. Since I've moved, nope. Don't know anyone that has this phone and is near me.
3. Battery Replacement. It's 1am here so, I guess I'll just keep it on the charge till the morningmorning..
I could do the bootloader sbf back to froyo thing but since the phone's battery is dead to the max, I get the error, meaning I can't do that option.
I'll call my local AT&T store to see if I could get a battery replacement if I can't get it to turn on to at least the Recovery or bootloader.
Pain.. pain in my brain.
try to get it plugged in w/ no logo, to ensure it's off off... if not you might have to let it sit off the charger till it's dead enough that it doesn't try to boot...
i think it's trying to boot, but boot looping and not aquiring enough of a charge,
do you have it on a wall charger? make sure it's like 800 mah or higher, i think the phone comes with a 5.1v 800mah which was weird to me tha tit was 5.1 cause all other phones are 5.0 but anyway maybe you're not getting enough of a current to it to overcome the drain from the bootloop?
Are you able to get into custom recovery? (Do you see the blue LED at any point when the phone begins to try to power on?)
You have soft bricked your phone, so the only way to get it working is to sbf back to 2.2. The problem is, the bootloader doesn't allow you to sbf if your battery is below a certain point. You need to either get that battery charged or get a new one.
If you can't get anything at your store, I will cross-ship/trade you a charged battery (1 year old) for your current one and $3 for shipping? Let me know if you'd be interested in something like that...
I also bought a battery from Amazon (OEMShop or something), and I think it came 40%ish charged... You could try your luck?
Just so you understand the charging, Android uses the OS to monitor the charging. If the phone is bricked it doesn't charge… plain and simple. It sucks if you try to sbf after the battery is drained, but the only thing you can do is get another one. Hope your search for one comes up well.

My replacement phone came in the mail earlier this afternoon! Thanks for all the help you guys. Glad I came here. So excited, just 10% more and it's fully charged.
I think I may get a extra battery just in case for my phone. Great post!
This just happened to me too. I thought what to do...
Spliced one of my old car phone chargers and hooked it to my phone battery... plugged it into my car fir 5 minutes and was charged enough to sbf.
Don't recommend it if you don't know what your doing

Where you running Faux's kernel?
Can you hold down the Vol +/- and then plug in your USB cable? If it is a red blinking light then I think it's a battery issue not supplying power to your motherboard.

This happened to me today. The battery indicator is incorrect, and shuts down before notifying you sometimes.
Phone shut down on me randomly and wouldn't turn back on today. Plugging into the wall didn't help. It was only when I plugged it into my PC and let it charge for 5 minutes that it came back. Scary bug.

No need to type in bold...
Faux is a developer who is putting together a new kernel for our device, basically it allows one to modify the 'engine' of our phone.
I think the consensus here is there is a manufacturing defect in your phone and a lot of other phones. It seems like this issue is connected to running a custom kernel but there are reports of 100% stock phone bricking (like yours)
It's time to call up google, nothing we can do from here.

I thanked you on accident, you didn't deserve it. There is no evidence that his phone is bricked, a user above reported the same thing happening and how he resolved it.
Also, he can type in bold if he wants to.
I hope the OP issue gets resolved. Wish you all the best buddy!
I'm having the same issue. Except this happened when I pulled the device new out of the box. Can't even get it to stay on long enough to get into bootloader mode. :-/ RMA time
Good luck on fixing the problem.

[Q] Battery problems (phone won't turn on or charge)

So about a week or two ago my phone randomly shut itself off. I'm not sure exactly what happened but I just locked it and slid it in my pocket and an hour or so later I checked it and it wouldn't turn on, yet I could feel the gpu/processor getting extremely hot after a minute or so of failed attempts. Also the trackpad would flash red, which I had never noticed before. Prior to this I had been noticing my battery was draining quicker.
So when I try to charge it will charge itself for approximately a minute or so and then the orange LED will go out, again the processor/gpu gets very hot. After about an hour if I come back the phone will feel cold again as if It had been off and the phone won't turn on. I was able to buy a new battery today, because I read it could be related to a dead battery. This new battery boots to the familiar HTC mytouch4g intro (which is good, considering the old battery doesn't even power on), but then will shut off immediately after that or occasionally just get stuck at that screen. I can boot into recovery but then it says low battery voltage. I tried to do a factory reset but it just takes me back to the bootscreen again and shuts off.
I'm not sure what to do, as I've bricked a previous phone before and this doesn't really seem similar. I'm thinking about leaving the phone on charge, even though the orange LED is off with the hopes that it will charge. Anyone else have similar experience to this?

Sorry about the long response time. Unfortunately now my phone will not turn on with either battery, so I couldn't flash the img. I think it could be possible that my phone is not actually charging the battery and both of them have died. I'm not entirely sure, I'm going to charge it overnight and hope for the best.

Flashing red light of Death!

Hey xda'ers my nexus 4 just crapped out with the flashing red light of death. I've read it's just a dead battery and I should let it charge overnight. My situation was I am currently using slim bean 4.3 and was flashing between kernels, went from faux to semaphore to hells core and on hells I ran antutu and after that my phone went into a coma. I had a full battery when flashing so I'm at a loss as to why the flashing indicates a deader than dead battery. Any help appreciated.

Try this before anything else:
Plug in the factory charger to the wall and to your device for 1 minute. Wait to see if a battery charging symbol appears on screen. If it does then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds. If the aforementioned battery icon doesn't appear then plug your device in again but this time for one hour. After one hour of charging disconnect the cable then quickly reconnect it after waiting one second. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. The device should power on, if not repeat the last sequence of steps but substitute the one hour of charging with 10hrs of charging (overnight).
I hope it works for you, Report back and give an update!

Well I let it sit overnight charging and the red light still flashing. I can get the phone to Google boot screen then nothing. Screen goes black and back to the flashing. I can't get onto fastboot mode or recovery mode to flash to stock no button combos work. So I guess either I send it back to LG or maybe send it to josh(conexxion2005 on xda) and see if he can help. The last thing you can do [and the only which fix this kind of problem] is turn off device, open the back case [2 screws], remove the battery flex cable and put it back.
Now try...before you RMA it.

I'm gonna try that but now I just realised that my T6 torx isn't small enough to get the screw's out. I'll take it to work and try to mess with it there. Seeing as my device is rooted and various other they'll surely not warranty it. But I'll try not to @#$% it up any further.

From what I understand, as the battery is well- cheap and crap if you run a benchmark and the system draws a lot of power it can knock itself out due to the voltages or something.

Galaxy Note 4- Why Is My Phone Working Without The Battery?

Phone actually working without battery???
Okay this is weird... I am new to this Android developing stuff so cut me some slack...
I just took out the battery to restart quickly, but it stayed on... I made sure the battery was far enough away from the device to not be using any sort of black magic. I left it for a while and eventually I just put it back in and rebooted through the menu. What was happening? Draining from the RAM to keep the display on? Some sort of solar panel? I am confused!
Remember to unplug the phone from charger cable...
I would vote for black magic but it's probably just a anomaly . My 910F as soon as i unplug the battery will go bye bye in 0.5 sec ! )

After you remove the battery, there is a little sticker on the phone where the battery slot is (it has the phone model number on it, as well as other information). Sometimes you need to flick the sticker with your finger a few times. This tells the Pikachus in the phone that the battery is out and they'll soon stop using Thunder Bolt.

Yes it's draws current from any power source connected to the phone. Some phones will shut off when battery is disconnected even tho a power cable is connected to protect hardware from shorting out and other phones won't.
