ASUS confirms Transformer power fix incoming - Eee Pad Transformer General

http://androidcommunity.com/asus-confirms-eee-pad-transformer-power-fix-incoming-20110713/

Wonderful news! Still I don't see how this bug was missed. It was one of the first things I noticed when playing with it on the first day I bought it... and it's so widespread... did they not even play around with them first?

This is GREAT news! I was going to send my dock for RMA today! Guess I will wait a little more. If anyone has more news don't hesitate to post: timelines, firmware or hardware fix...
Joël.

So this means that it not the dock itself so people can stop trying to find b60s

Me too. I have the RMA package all wrapped up to go. Now I'll wait and see.

This reinforces the value of forums like XDA. Sufficient data has been presented in various threads here to assist ASUS in narrowing down the issue and hopefully fix it. In addition the pressure from members kept the issue in their sights. Hopefully the fix will improve the overall experience and not just fix one issue at the expense of creating another.

w00t!
Hopefully its just a firmware update.

Has this been released yet?

I haven't noticed any power/draining problems personally. In fact, I am amazed at the battery life of the tab while docked. But glad that a fix is in the works for those that need it.

i believe the article mentions it as a firmware update, but we'll have to see...that and other possible fixes on the horizon in 3.2 are just what is needed in a prod introduction. Sure there's bugs but it only becomes an issue if you don't address them.

I get excellent battery life if I put my ÁT in airplane mode when I'm done. I don't mind waiting 15 seconds for a few emails to download when I take it out of airplane mode.

My dock has already been shipped off for RMA, but I also hope that at least a portion of the issue may be correctable via firmware update. However, there are several reports in this thread (specifically here and here) that indicate that a hardware fix may be required.

In the main thread on dock battery drain, many with the B60 docks are reporting much small drain during standby and power off. So Asus is likely doing something different to the is newest batch of docks, and that means they have a 'fix' already.
So what are they waiting? Unless whatever they did to the B60 batch is hardware, and they need to figure out a software fix to patch the problem in older docks...

The fix is probably rolled into the 3.2 update.

I wouldn't assume too soon. I got a B60 dock 2 days ago. I also have had a B50 for about 2 weeks. There are noticable battery usage differences between the two in regular use, standy and when the tablet is turned off.
When I assume I make an a.....well you know
Lets wait and see what Asus says and does...

"We will shortly be announcing details on how this will be resolved for our customers."
If it was just a firmware update, they'd probably have said so. As in "We will shortly be releasing firmware to resolve this for our customers."
The only reason I can see for phrasing it in this manner is because they're expecting a hardware update -- which means "details" will be needed to tell customers in each market how to return their docks, what the expected turnaround time is, who pays for shipping, which serial number ranges are included, etc.
I hope I'm wrong, but I deal with decoding public relations-speke every day, and this doesn't read like a simple firmware update to me.

Engadget covers the nexus s issues

Engadget just posted a story on the two major issues of signal loss and rebooting during calls.
Maybe with this Google will start to fix the problem? I sure hope so, as both are now affecting me more than ever.

They must also fix

2)Random freeze of the gingerbread launcher...

I think it was posted that the reboot fix was coming, but not the loss of data.
Maybe I am just a lucky one, but I have had Nexus S since release and have only had a "random reboot" once; and no data signal loss issue AFAIK like Engadget has described. I have owned three Nexus Ss.
There are other issues, though, making it clear 2.3 is not bug free.

Weird. I haven't had a single one of the issues described in any form. However, the browser issues do make me angry.
Glad there is a hotfix on the way (for the issues mentioned, that is, not necessarily the browser issues)!
The only issue that regularly bothers me is the vanishing ringtone one. It's not exactly critical from a utilitarian standpoint, but I think it's stupid that I should have to root and move files around my phone in order to set a custom ringtone. Still, I'm far too happy with pretty much everything else to switch.
I think one major sticking point with the Nexus S is that we have a fairly lengthy list of at least semi-common issues, but in several cases it's not clear whether those are hardware- or software-related. This is troublesome because the latter may be reasonably expected to get fixed in OTAs, while the former will probably only ever be resolved through workarounds, if at all.
I would be very pleased if Google were more transparent about what it's working on, or at least aware of, even if they (understandably) don't want to commit to fix dates. As a user, just knowing the basic nature of these problems and that they are being acknowledged would go a long way towards improving customer satisfaction in my book.

ics ota for us

alright i have been searching forever and i keep finding people saying its out for the us now and a bunch of ppl saying its delayed. My transformer is saying no updates so i dont know if its a problem with mine or if the update is not ready yet. I tried doing a cold boot and clearing the data in the server apps, my device is not rooted its a refurb unit from best buy.
it did indeed come out 2-24 but i read somewhere bc of the bugs that Asus is working on an update for early nextweek- it also mentioned that they were pulling the OTA until the update goes out.
I know i saw the update posted somewhere here but you may want to wait a few more days until the update is released.
It took a few days for me to work some bugs out of mine, but it seems to work well now.. fingers crossed
alright thanks for the response hopefully it comes back soon then it a pretty good improvement minus the bugs?

If you're not happy with the ICS update, it's possible to rollback to HC.

I believe the only major thing ASUS did wrong was not append the word Beta to the original ICS upgrade. If people knowingly install a beta version then they expect it to be a work in progress. Microsoft do it, so do Apple etc.

LOL . The .17 update seems to run faster and is more responsive, but i just got my first reboot only hours after updating. So they may have fixed some minor bugs, but the reboot issue is still there. I was in root explorer and let my tablet sit idle until it fell asleep. Not too long after it fell asleep, it rebooted and stuck on the Asus screen. I had my TF docked.

How to make a great tablet worthless?... Update to ICS!

I couldn't believe it when I bought my TF101 on Black Friday for $250. What a steal! It was wonderful; totally reliable. I couldn't wait until ICS came out ; silly me. My TF101 has been completely unreliable since. Just like many others ; if I turn it off for more than a few minutes it either won't turn on or it reboots. I can no longer recommend the TF101 until Asus gets this resolved. I believe Asus will resolve this, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't getting concerned about the long time frame.
Please Asus, us loyal users need a fix soon, or at least a definitive status update.
Trying to be patient,
Dean
Install wake lock. It makes the tablet 100% reliable again, at the cost of slightly worse battery life. I'm living with it just fine until Asus release the fix they promised. A transformer with ICS+Wakelock is still x10 times better than a transformer with HC, IMHO.

I am afraid that I must disagree with you about the transformer being unreliable. It may be that you would care to try rooting the device and installing a custom rom and kernel.
I have a TF101, B70. I rooted the device and have used a variety of ROMs, the latest being revolver 4 beta. I have also installed the test13 kernel by guever. For me this setup is perfect. I have had no SOD's or RR since I Installed the above. All is running incredibly smoothly, and reliably.
Perhaps you could try the setup which I have found to be so reliable and let us know if it has improved?

I don;t want your goodwill. I want you to search, read, and then only ask a question if the issue isnt covered. This place is for the devs, not for complaining
And reverting after a root is a legitimate fix. It was fine before ICS, it will be fine reverting.

Just installed Cyanogenmod and saw that the problem is not solved. I fear starting to appear that the problem is hardware. Now have to wait for an update from Google.
IIRC, the screen issue is due to a firmware config that cannot be addressed by flashing a new ROM. An updated firmware package will have to be pushed via Google.

From what I have seen, google is aware of all the big bugs and is working on a big update. Looks like screen flicker, multitouch, overheating, corrupted images on startup, gps, wifi performance etc are going to be fixed in a bugfix update. All the nexus devices start their lives like this, one of the few annoying things about being a nexus fanboy, you get to enjoy the bugs before anyone else gets to.

Yeah I remember this too, something about the kernel supplying not enough voltage to the touchscreen in an attempt to improve battery life. This has to be a kernel bug.
Try flashing a different kernel as that is what bridges hardware and software.
Aren't all kernels based on stock?

According to the minions on their google+ "they are working on these issues". I by no means know that google is in fact going to be able to fix all of these issues, nor am I able to guarantee what they do, but I don't see that by repeating what their reps are saying is pure speculation. I think that judging by past examples anyone who has bought a nexus device at launch has either knowingly or unknowingly already agreed to be a guinea pig. In the end I am one of the last people to say that someone shouldn't return a defective piece of hardware, but it seems a lot of the issues people are having are being misdiagnosed as hardware issues when in fact they can (and most likely will) be fixed by an OTA.
I can dare to say that the issue is present in Android 4.3 affecting any device running it even Custom Roms I'm on CyanogenMod 10.2 on my d2spr (S3 Sprint) and the issue is present there too. Also that causes reboots too. I could be wrong too.

No problem with repeating what they are saying, but you seem to have commited them to more than they are saying in their personal comments, not those as official reps.
IMO everyone should get accurate information so they can evaluate for themselves whether it is worth the risk to keep it or just to return the unit.
Personally I think the random reboots and GPS can be addressed in software and the multi-touch is probably 50/50 something that can be worked around in software, but everyone has their own tolerance levels for these kind of issues and "are looking into it or are working on it" and "going to be fixed" are quite different levels of commitment.
I'm sorry but what issues are you having because I exchanged my first n7 because I was having multitouch stuttering and issues with unresponsiveness which made the device unusable. The new device is okay.
