Just wanted to introduce myself a bit, as I recently purchased a Streak from an XDA member, coming first from the HD2 and then a Vibrant.
I've flashed via Clockwork. I'm assuming that the Streak is similar in nature.
Question:
Wondering why none of the devs include screenshots for their ROMs in their threads?
The one I bought has the ATT stock 2.2.2 and is carrier unlocked.
Any suggestions or tips from the Streak freaks here would be greatly appreciated, as I feel like I'm starting all over again.... having to re-learn the techniques.
Anyway, big thanks to XDA and to all you guys who make cell phones fun to use... to the point of obsession!
Screen shots really do not reflect the changes that custom ROMs make. The UI elements can be changed without flashing a custom ROM, so what the homescreens look like is little indication of what is under the hood.
The Streakdroid roms and SimpleStreak both provide a kernel that allows overclocking, but I have not found any need to overclock my phone. The kernel that is available in the SimpleStreak thread (which is based on the StreakDroid kernel) can be flashed to otherwise stock phones if you want to overclock. YMMV.
If you want to customize your Streak use StreakMod Recovery instead of CWM. StreakMod is customized for the Streak.
There are some links in my signature that will provide a starting point for you.
Thanks. That helps. I'm with you, in that I've not found a need to overclock. Close to stock is my philosophy. Stability over anything else.
use streakmod not clockwork mod..
a) it works better
b) its still been enhanced.
beauty of the streak is that its pretty open, bootloader unlocked, easy to use fastboot etc etc
Bienvendio a bordo, gracias a DJ_Steve, Fards y muchos otros que han hecho la Streak vale la pena poseer.
For you English speaking folks:
Welcome aboard, thanks to DJ_Steve, Fards and many other they have made the Streak worth owning.
not much rom themeing as expected from the galaxy s phones... it is mostly under the hood and what you make of it. The kitchen mostly works with the froyo stock framework-res.apk
Do we have Voodoo for the Streak?
Should have my new (used) Streak in about an hour!
Good luck mate, best to read the forum topic before jumping in that way you can benefit from the wealth of knowledge....also you read the mistakes so you know not to do them!

hey,
in advance, sorry about that if this is a serious noob question. i searched and i read numerous threads but i'm still really confused.
basically, i'm getting a wizard at christmas, which has WM5 on it. I've had little look around, and the general (and somewhat obvious) concensus is that WM6 (or WWE or whatever) is way better. I'm really confused about the whole G3 G4 thing and the whole updating ROM things. I've read guides/tutorials and looked at a load of the Wiki stuff, but i'm still really confused.
Is it possible that someone might give me a bit of a really broken down idea (not step-by-step tutorial) as to updating the phone from WM5 to WM6. Like what is involved? length of time taken? what essentially i need to do? etc. If people can tell me what to update etc, like the radio thing and such, i'm more than happy to search for the guides and tutorials on this forum. the guides are excellently done and very easy to follow, but i'm still lost about what means what?
thanks,
t
Damned Noobs!
Ok, the for idiots version (don't worry, I once needed the for idiots version too)--
G3 Wizard= when you boot the phone and get a bunch of numbers on the initial screen it will say x.xx
G4 Wizard= x.xx.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (joking, but it will have more decimals!)
The radio depends on location...I'm in Cali, I run 2.47 with the fix cab and have no issues...however...2.19 IS the recommended radio for the WM6 roms.
THERE IS NO SINGLE BEST ROM!! They all rock. The kitchen you choose is based on what fits YOU. I run Jaguar, I love it. But I like minimal apps, but not a vanilla rom. Read each kitchen posting carefully. Some come with all kinds of bells and whistles, some are minimal, some are really vanilla! Read what the bugs are, and if fixes have been posted.
Read Dr.P's tutorial at least 3 times on unlocking your Wiz (it is stickied).
You will want a few "must have" apps. Search lokiwiz, wst, and maybe even omap clock. Once CID/SIM unlocked, always unlocked. But before you flash a cooked rom, YOU MUST BE CID/SIM UNLOCKED!
When you flash a rom, you are not freeballing with your jacket open...flashing your rom simply means switching it out. It is recommended to flash back to a stock rom before trying out a new kitchen. This keeps the new install fresh and clean. Search for the stock rom. The search button is your friend. A lot of folks use the Tmo 2.26 stock rom.
And finally, invest in Sprite backup or a similar app. It makes things so much easier if you fubar ****. So always back your Wizard up.
And again, remember, read the wiki's and stickies until your eyes bleed. It is always best to know your device before playing around with it. What mods you do, you do at your own risk!
And an FYI, I don't honestly know if WM6 is better than WM5, but as the WM6's are all custom kitchens, they are a hell of a lot more fun!!
PS- the longest time taken is always in the initial modding. You MUST unlock your phone first...that will take a good 20 minutes at least. A typical rom flash takes roughly 10 minutes. A radio only flash takes 3 minutes...once you have done the initial work...you will find that if you want to change roms, you'll need to devote a whole 20 minutes---flash a stock rom, then flash a custom creation.
To all of the ROM Cooks ad brilliant minds like Haykuro, MarcusMaximus04 and everyone else who contributes their skills to the Android scene. I consider myself myself to be an expert in terms of tech savvy as I am an IT Administrator but I am by no means a programmer. I for the life of me could never build a Windows Mobile ROM that worked well and find the same to be true for Android ROMS. Big props to those who can!
I recently acquired a G1 and immediately came back to XDA for new ROMS with more features and better usability and I have not been dissapointed. After installing and reinstalling all of my apps over and over after every ROM upgrade I decided to jump in to the Apps to SD mod. After reading Marcus' tutorial and then actually following Haykuros directions for his ROMS I could not be happier. Flash the ROM run through the ADB steps and viola, all my apps are back. Genius!
Again, props and BIG thanks to everyone who contributes. I may never be able to build a ROM or Script but I will do my best to answer questions for problems I have had resolved for anyone who has a similar one.
now i need your guy's help and im sure im not the only one. k so i got my first smart phone, the HTC touch pro2 from Telus and im reading a lot of stuff on roms. an anybody explain to me why you should load up different roms, like what the pros and cons are of the different roms?
im sure there was probably a similar thread somewhere else but i did try and search a little and i couldn't find any. I would appreciate it if it was just helpful comments thanks.

Welcome to forums
Your Rhodium seems to be CDMA so your section is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=517
Good luck and donĀ“t forget to vote for Rhodium!!
The idea behind custom ROMs is to replace the sometimes buggy, bloated, inferior ROM that comes with device with different custom ROMs. Custom ROMs are generally faster, more stable, and have more features. Different ROMs can have different tweaks, included software, and features. Each ROM is right for different people, so a ROM you like may not be one that someone else likes. For that reason, it's highly recommended that you simply flash a bunch of different ROMs, and decide which one you like most.
As orb3000 said, your Telus Touch Pro2 is a CDMA model, so you should not flash any ROMs from here. Since XDA-Developers is primarily a GSM forum, most Pro2 CDMA ROMs can be found at PPCGeeks.
Also, be sure of the risks before you flash a ROM. I've flashed well over 100 times on different devices and never have had a problem, but you can brick a device if you don't follow directions. That being said, ROM flashing is pretty safe, if you follow directions and don't take shortcuts. Hope that helps
Thanks for the help

Most applications on this site should work just fine with your CDMA device. The only big thing that will be different between CDMA/GSM hybrids and the GSM only devices is the process of installing a new ROM, but even that is pretty similar.
Hi guys, I was just about to flash my tab to gain some features and updates and I was about to use RomManager but couldn't find my model of tab on it.
So I started my search and came cross a number of threads that talk about flashing different parts of the firmware.
e.g. making voice calls (I'd love this but i'm with optus australia and they block... )
A kernel flash ..... sounds nice
a filesystem change
all of these sound great and I have been searching but I really don't know what is for general useage in the roms or what is specific to australian roms...
I just don't want to brik my rom....
any help
cheers
Are you willing to flash Euro ROM? I thought JM6 (can't even remember if this was Euro ROM) was the greatest, then JME.
I'm using RichardTrip OC Kernel+ext4 on JMI now and few things are broken: call volume is very small when turning it up pass 75%. If you go back to 75% it's louder LoL. Others mention video laggy. Other also suggest to go all the way to Modaco ROM. Oh, bluetooth is broken as well (when I was running Modaco kernel+JME ROM but Paul mentioned something about because the old ROM so he suggested switch to newer ROM).
If you want to convert to ext4, use Modaco kernel Jan/2x date. It's very easy. Just READ the steps and have good Roto backup to your PC first.
So there you have it. YMMV

Interesting_ well it's at least a place to start got lot's of searching terms now
so are the roms realesed based on performance and features since this is Linux we're talking about, I imagine that a major part of the difference is back-end as opposed to my old HTC trinity which replaced functionality as opposed to doing too much back end enhancements - Is this right? is there a list of features each rom has ?
cheers
It's probably best you go check out the "Developers" section. When someone posts a new ROM they usually give you a list of features.
Try reading the entire thread so that you can see if others are happy with the ROM or what issues they're having. After this, you can make an informed decision on which ROM to flash.
which order do we flash in?

yes but what is the next step - what rom do i need? A system rom, A kernel a firmware fix - or rather, so I don't brick the phone what order should these be done in I think that is a better question
I have already rooted the phone , made some symlinks to add functionality so i'm kinda noobish to linux but I can catch on
cheers for any more help
I have also not yet flashed anything, because I don't have a need to as yet. But if I were to flash any ROM it would be the MoDaCo ROM with an OC'd kernel. That seems to be most peoples ROM of choice as it keeps the device looking as stock as possible with a good performance enhanced backend by changing the FS type to ext4 (which is faster than the current FS) and obviously a faster processor speed. CWM is also added for good measure. This allows you to flash certain zImages and have a more robust recovery menu.
Hope that helps.

Hello guys,
sorry for probably not having searched long enough, but there is just a mass of threads to dig through...
A friend of mine has the Motorola Atrix and I want to help him upgrade it to the latest rom version, plus root the device... so I was wondering what method to use and which rom etc?
Myself I own a Samsung Galaxy i9000, so I know how many different roms exist for each device lol.. but no clue about the atrix (yet).
My friend is visually impaired and in order to change the display dpi we need to have the phone rooted.
Hope you can point me in the right direction so I don't have to spend too much time researching about this atrix.

For custom rom, try GingerMod 2.3.6 #7, best ROM i ever used, runs so smooth and better battery life...

Thanks man!
That gingermod rom looks nice, unfortunatly it doesn't seem to support german. (forgot to say that my friend doesnt understand english so well and thought roms would usually always support german lol)
So are there any good with german language anyone can recommend? Preferably with Motoblur, or does motoblur get f*cked up by dpi changes?
